...is why all my friends who are like "omg Xella, design me a tattoo!" are crazy and should never, ever trust me with their flesh.

I really like the look of tribal tattoos. As you can see, though, I'm not very good at executing the concept. Maybe it's just a lack of practice, I dunno. I don't feel very comfortable with abstract.

NE druid tattoo for a druid character (big shocker, there ). I probably didn't need to go tribal with it, but the character has traditional NE facial tattoos and I figured this was more likely to match. I still can't decide if it looked better before I added the lower jaw. Hmm.

Odyssey II: Chapter Two Submission

My submission for chapter two of the Odyssey Project (#ODYSSEYPROJECT). Decided to get Paul moving quickly rather than navel-gazing at his new condition. See my scratch notes below for some of my thought processes behind writing this chapter. And you can check out the story so far with the links below.

Okay, so Paul has this affliction spreading down his leg and such. It seems somewhat cosmic in its nature. Something like an 80s music video underneath his skin, spreading along his legs.

If this came from the red-haired man then he needs to be defined: was he a vessel for this (for lack of a neutral term) infection, or is he the deliberate instigator? By his actions in the prologue, Id have thought that he was more of the former, i.e. the seizure that he suffered was some kind of spectral/ethereal being taking over his body, in order to deliver the vomitus infection.

The red-haired man does need to turn up again at some point, even if he turns up dead. Not yet though. An important question is how will the rash/colours proceed? If they cover him completely, then its going to be difficult for him to move around. Probably too difficult without invoking The Invisible Man (the sci-fi, not the classic). So perhaps it spreads in a pattern: fractal, mandelbrot-esque (in a meta-way, this would help artists). Moving very slowly. Its important that he is able to move around in public. Otherwise too many words will devoted to how he is able to successfully hide his affliction (again, for lack of a neutral term).

So start off the chapter by describing how long it took for the rash to etch itself out on Pauls skin. Like a tattoo drawn by an invisible hand, swirling into patterns that repeated and repeated with what seemed like atomic precision. So thats what happens with the rash. But what does the rash cause Paul to do? Whats his reaction to its appearance, and what effect does it have on him? Well, the description at the start should also function as his action of being transfixed. So he is motionless inside his hotel for a little while. Then I think his first logical step would be to put the trousers back on (reluctantly) and head out to try and find the red-haired man. He knows the rough direction that he lurched off in, so he goes back to the train platform and starts searching from there.

Ordinarily this would be a fruitless search, or require at least a bit of coincidence/luck on his part, but perhaps this is where he first experiences the effect of his condition. He is concentrating utterly on the idea of finding this red-haired man and something happens to the rash. The rash is colours, right? So perhaps he turns into a human game of hot/cold; the colours align into the same shade as the mans hair, and get stronger the closer he is to him? Bit lame :/
How about he is able to teleport places? Based on the remembrance of colour? He concentrates really hard on the red-hair, his skin turns that colour (he feels warmth as it does) he is transported to it? That seems a bit better. Chapter could end as he appears in front of the red-haired man, alive or dead in an alleyway somewhere.

Ovary Pizza Scar

This subject is actually rather close to home for us. This is sort of the outline of my (HTD) dissertation topic.

Before I explain it to you all, I must demand that everyone realize that the idea is MINE and that you may NOT for ANY reason use it. I'll be taking that doctorate title, thank you.

The basic idea is about the physical and emotional turmoil that accompanies surgical scars and how turning an ugly line into an artful design (see the pizza/cloud ovary scar above) can actually help speed up recovery and prevent mental stagnation or even decay.

All events in this study take place at Candy Mountain Surgical Institute.

As you can clearly see, when the regular patient, who requested his name not be used and will respectively be called henceforth Artichoke, received his throat surgery and was given precisely 27 stitches in a straight line, his recovery period did not go so well. As a famous singer, Artichoke depended on his voice, but the blaring scar prevented him from being able to sing and made him very depressed.

Despite warnings from his twin doctors, Artichoke attempted to compete on a famous singing television program before he was fully healed and did irreparable damage to himself.

It was a sad but common scenario. If only Artichoke had gotten his scar shaped like tranquil river, or perhaps a cute tadpole, or even a combination of both, it would have healed faster and he'd be famous and productive--rather then coming in second place in the singing television program.

The study patient, whose name will also be omitted and replaced with 'Unicorn', had an Oophorectomy and had his scar modeled into a pizza (see the enlarged diagram). A tattoo artist was even introduced, really spicing up the finished result.

The miraculous part of this example is that the surgery was actually botched. As you can clearly see, the remaining ovary is hanging from the wound. Dr. Twin II mistakenly left it out during the sewing process. Despite this normally fatal mistake, Unicorn lived.

The accepted theory is that due to the fact that the tattoo artist took liberties and tattooed it to look like a maraca, it healed along as quickly as the scar itself and became a vestigial appendage.

Clearly in the cases of Unicorn and Artichoke, the shaping and decoration of scars is a most definitely the most advanced finding in recent medical history.

This is just a basic outline...I intend to go much broader on the subject and do several more studies that branch off of this main one, including touching upon the mental aspects more.

This is a story I wrote almost a year ago, when I had just discovered the furry fandom.

It centres around an anthro cat soldier somewhere on DA that I identified with, and arrived at the 'Parakitteh' fursona, which itself features in the story.

Unfortunately, my storytelling then isn't much different to my storytelling now - rambling and wittering with regards to insignificant detail, and being generally anal with it.
