Finally! After all the long wait, it's finally done! Here I once and for all prove that even a high-quality (2D) animation can be done with nothing more than Free and OpenSource softwares (well, you still need good hardware...)

For this, I've used Synfig, Blender, Audacity, GIMP, Inscape, and Krita, all on the opensource OS called Ubuntu (a Linux distribution), freely available to anyone. Other unmentioned softwares I've used are MyPaint, Kdenlive, Tupi, and Celtx (for the scripts).

I guess this makes one of the pioneers of OpenSource 2D Animation, huh?

Arthur Kill is a character from Gods vs. Monsters vs. NJ whose background I’ve haven’t fleshed out yet. I just know that he’s a psychotic cupid. (Whatever that means.)

The idea behind the drawing is a mix of James Bond and a classic Punisher comic book cover.

Es una niña de un bocetito que me miraba furiosa cada vez que abría mi libreta y notaba que no la había terminado. Los patrones del fondo vienen en una colección de iconografías prehispánicas que edita el Fondo de Cultura Económica. Por lo demás, la niña, cariñosamente bautizada como Metzin, la hice en Krita con una bamboo, partiendo de un boceto que había escaneadp, mientras que el montaje del fondo y todo eso lo hice en GIMP, todo trabajando en Linux.

She's a girl from a sketch who loked angrily at me each time she realized I hand't finish her. The background patterns can be found in a collection of prehispanic iconographics published by the Fondo de Cultura Económica in México. About the girl, called Metzin, I drew her in Krita using a bamboo, from a scanned sketch, and made the final composition in GIMP afterwards. All done under Linux.

Aurora Young, Blackie Young’s mother from Astro Boy (1980 +
Manga). In Astro Boy, she was a robot who adopted a human
baby. But robots were not allowed to parent humans. She joined a
peaceful pro-robot demonstration and was destroyed by humans.
Her son grew up thinking she was a human killed by robots and
became the leader of an anti-robot gang. He pillaged robots
everywhere until a scientist put Aurora back together and she
was reunited with her son. It was quite tearful.

This took me much longer than it should have primarily because I
am a complete newbie at cityscapes. This image is also the largest
in MB that I've ever coloured and slowed my PC quite a bit.

it was an idea of making HD painting of an anime way, and my first character thought was renten, and from my view of point it was a pretty success except the pose is not what I had in mind, see. I was trying to convince my self that he's standing on a board but it turned out not, It's too late for me to just draw the green sparkles behind him because he's way far from the board , I dont think the perspective would work out either for some reason he decided to fly

Done in 12 hours. I did this painting in MyPaint with my now agéd Trust tablet. I somewhat overestimated myself and as such had to rush over a few areas, I could happily put in another 5-10 hours tweaking and resolving areas.

I had great fun doing this painting, it really stretched me, especially when it came to blocking in my colours, but I am very happy with the result.

(I have a fairly hefty amount of prep sketches to upload that chronologically appear before this image)

it looks fine on one of my monitors but on the other and a separate that i checked it on it looked too dark. so i'd like to know if you can easily tell that the ground in the bottom right corner or on the left above the rock blob is a dark green instead of black...

i was hurriedly making this yesterday to submit as a possible splash for blender 2.67 after scrapping what i was trying to do for most of a week before.
i had originally planned to have some frogs on those logs but i ran out of time. i may tweak some stuff and put them in there later.

Our new comic book, 'Monsters, Inked Collected Classics Vol 1', has just come back from the printers. It's going on sale as part of the Free Comic Book Day celebrations in our home town of Aylesbury (Bucks, England) on 4th May. We'll also be there to sign, chat, and generally help to celebrate the genre of sequential art in all its varied forms.

All the artwork for 'Monsters, Inked' was hand drawn then traced, coloured, lettered and composited using Inkscape running on Ubuntu and Linux Mint. The book was planned using Scribus, though the final version was typeset using InDesign (nothing against Scribus, but we had a professional typesetter who offered to help us out, and InDesign was her weapon of choice).

[UPDATE] I did some tweaking to have Misaka stand out a bit.

After Reading *darkspeeds' tutorial about composition, looked at my last drawing of Misaka Mikoto in my Skyfalling Railgun fanart drawing and realize that I can do better than that. So I took my original file strip it down till it was only Misaka with her main colors. Then I added more lineart detail to her uniform (school emblem, sweater colar and arm holes, and skirt. I added knuckle marking to her right hand and redid the background, lighting effect. Then decided to do cel shading shadowing and higlighting and vala here is the final result.

In the Composition Tutorial, mention that the picture must flow to your focal point. Since the focal point was her right arm about to fire her railgun, and her body was at an arch, I decided to use circles as my composition. So the lighting effects wer in a cirlce around the coin to show eleltrical buildup, and the clouds also cirlced around that area. So compared to my original Fanart Drawing [link], this one came out way better. So what are your guys thought about it? Well anyways, I going to get to bed for well needed sleep and you have a wonderful day. ^^
