There are 4 Primary steps to drawing this, and you can do this traditionally with a straight edge and/or ruler (I find a ruler helps best) or you can do it digitally as well. Anyways it's all good practice and it took me awhile to master it myself, even though I came up with it myself. What caused me to create this, was because I have a REALLY tough time making my swords straight and perpendicular, this helps alot. It takes a keen mind to harness it and master it though. Try it out though. Please post some results of the works you've done! I'd love to see/hear if I helped or not!

Step 1: Draw a T-shaped object about 3 inches to 3 and a half inches long. Mark the edges with circles, this will help aligning the process of step 2...

Step 2: Draw an Acute Triangle from the longer point to the sides of the hilt (handle) area. Make sure everything is balanced and in the correct spot before going onto step 3...

Step 3: Draw the hilt first, I suggest a basic hilt for a first try since it helps you get used to things... The hilt can be above or below the line. Prepare for step 4...

Step 4: Begin to draw the blade out of the triangle, think of it as carving out pieces of statue. The tip of the triangle makes a perfectly pointed blade tip (if you desire curved swords this space can be modified) Along with this step, begin to erase the triangular outline and make sure both sides are even to the ways you want! After this step, you are pretty much done...

Step 5 (Optional): You can add decorations, runes, and jewels on the sword and make it unique.

Example: I drew an example sword I have never drawn before. I drew the Lich King's two-handed sword: Frostmourne [link] without the use of a reference and solely from memory. It's not EXACTLY like it, but I think I did a damn well good job on it. I kept all the original lines to show how I accomplished such a thing.

Of the three recent adventure time pieces I've done approached a little differently, this one went from sketch, to digital inks (Which im apparently terrible at...) to coloring all the elements on separate layers, (Which gives it its high layer count compared to the other 2)

The psd also shows the stuff i screwed up in the initial sketch (not having reference handy when i drew it) like billy's lack in the beard dept. the the wrong horn on the lich, the generic sword on finn and the difference in simons hair.

Hair: Naturally red, although she has grays, so she paints it red as well.
Eyes: Grayish blue. The iris is blue, but towards the pupil it blends with gray
Skin: While she was human it was tan, but when she became undead, it turned to gray. Freckled.
Tattoos: Skull on each of her shoulder, dragon woman on her left right upper arm, 'Morior Invictus' (lat. 'death before defeat') across her spine
Stitches: On each of her cheeks, in the line with her lips and at the right side of her head, from the top of her head across her eye.
Build: Average. Not exactly tall (both of her children are taller than her; remarkably shorter than her brother). For somebody with two children, she is very well built.

Strengths:
- Extreme strength - although she is weaker than most ghouls, she is stronger than average human male.
- Strategist - with her mind, she makes up for what her body lacks, in terms of being a ghoul. She is logical, believes our mind can explain anything and go to great lengths and that, with right plan, no goal can be left unachieved.
- Mathematician - good with Maths, Physics and all things alike. Related to Strategist trait.
Weaknesses:
- Dead nerves - or almost dead nerves. She has hard time feeling things and she needs to apply a lot of pressure to feel that she's even touching something. She has VERY dulled feeling of pain, hot, cold, ~~pleasure~~. This induces her poor motor skills.
- Poor speaking and hearing - Sylvia isn't exactly... deaf. She has hard time hearing though, and this reflects on her speaking at times. However, sometimes she speaks even when she doesn't hear herself at all.

- Being called cold/emotionless/immoral (well she is immoral let's face it)
- Staying immobile for the rest of her life and being a burden
- Her family/loved ones dying

Background:
Slyvia Rae Ravensdale was born in Kegan, Game World, even though her parents originated from Great Britain. She was (and is) the child of Richard Ravensdale, army officer, and his wife, Charlotte. She was a human child. Instead being sent to Academy, like other children were sent at the time, Sylvia was sent back to their homeland to study among other human kids. She graduated when she was 19 years old and took up Maths college. However, upon finishing it, she had an accident on her way back, with inhuman beings. She died at age of 20.

Not a year later, however, she was brought back to life by a lich, a former human that went by the name of Silas Nay. She married him shortly after and at age of 22 she had her first child, William. She returned to Game World as a ghoul. At age of 24, sh got her only brother, Charles. However, that's when things began to go downwards. Silas died a year later; Charlotte died 5 years after him. 30-year-old Sylvia was left with a rather old human father,8-year-old child and 6-years-old brother. She took Charles upon herself and raised him. The boy even lived with her. She remarried, this her spouse was a witch named Dawn Marie. The marriage lasted for 4 years before Sylvia was a widow once again.

Pretty much left on her own, the 34-year-old woman aged prematurely. She moved from Kegan to Alegra, far more peaceful city. She more or less retired, even though she was still taking orders for weapons – she was a rather skilled weaponsmith at the time. However, she still had 3 children to take care of so for a while she more or less disappeared, putting all of her time in them. Her brother and oldest son attended ScreamAcademy. Upon graduating, her brother died, but it seemed that, by that time, Sylvia was already at the point she still remains in today. She broke down at the funeral, but even a day after it and a year and at the time he revived, she did not react in anyway.

Since then, she has been concentrated on her work again. Even though she had a small child still, she paid him less attention than she would’ve wanted to or planned to, but perhaps it was for the best, as she was known to zone out at random times or to regard things she should’ve learnt him as ‘unimportant’, so the boy was left without some basic knowledge. She used to teach Combat in Academy for brief while when Reena Fullbits was Headmistress and left even before Reena’s death. Now she is working for Kegan military as weaponsmith and strategist. She occasionally helps her brother in Shifters, but mainly she is rather... passive about everything she does.

Personality:
Sylvia Ravensdale is a person that was, throughout the years, easily regarded as ‘crazy’. In fact, she is not crazy, although she is tad dulled in sense of emotions. Even though she is old in human terms, in ghoulish ones she is still very young. Despite this, Sylvia thinks like a far older person, the one that has been through far worse than she herself was.

Perhaps the only thing she has in common with Ravensdale are in infamous steely blue eyes. Unlike her brother, father, even mother and other ancestors, she does not respect opinion of others and she can’t (or let’s face it, doesn’t even try) understand their reasons for their actions. She believes the whole of the world was made to work by the laws of logic and everything can be controlled in one way or another. There are a lot of things she thinks of as ‘unimportant’ for one’s existence. Why does need to know certain type of music to be considered educated? Why would you learn another language, if it isn’t going to help you in any way? Why would you learn combat if it’s never going to save your life?

Sylvia has hard time deciding how she feels. Just like her son, Alan, she is alexithymic. Alexithymia is the inability to express the emotions, even though one can feel them. This appeared only after Faith died, even though she did not have any visible changes on her. She has no morals, however, Sylvia is a very calm and calculated person, so she doesn’t often get into fights with people.

Physically rather weak for a ghoul, she is described as a person of above average intelligence. Even though weak in body, she can win fights simply my tricking her opponents into some sort of trap. One of rare similarities with her brother is that she likes to taunt every once in a while and she does so openly. She is taught (and has taught her own children and brother) that being open and honest is the only option. She has strong maternal instinct. She holds on strongly to belief women are superior to men based solely on the fact that women can conceive naturally.

Sylvia is of those people who believe there are no tabboos or sins. Everything is permitted, nothing is forbidden, strange or foreign.

Additional

- She tends to zone out at random moments and forget what she was about to say or do. She also tends to forget whole time periods at once, before she is reminded and continues like nothing happened.
- Related to that, she has moments when she forgets that she is stronger than ordinary human, so she often breaks something around the house (teacups suffer the most).
- She works as a weaponsmith still. Her job, however, isn’t designing new weapon. She is specialized mostly for upgrading the already existing ones.
- Sylvia was trained in close and far range combat without any difference between the two. She is the one who taught her brother and both of her sons close combat.
- She can open her mouth wider than she is supposed to thanks to the stitches at each of her cheeks.
- She often asks people to repeat what they’ve said, just in case she heard them wrong or to check if her hearing is getting worse
- She is fascinated by reptiles (hence the tattoo).
- Not only that she is a carnivore and eats other species (such as humans), but she also won’t hesitate to eat some other supernatural creature or even some fellow ghoul, hence making her cannibal.

Of course you can view better artists events with it, there are many in the community of it and I highly recommend that you check them.

The image above is a sort of preview, but allow me a couple of words, so that the event makes more sense, because as it is I'm afraid many times it may seem confusing:

1) First I make a sketch of the pose. I cannot overstate the importance of this step. If I'm not happy with the results here, it's unlikely I will be at the end. I always draw my characters sort of nude, even when they will be fully clothed. I didn't do it here, but usually I draw a sketchy background at this stage too.

2)Now to the fun, drawing the muscles. I tried using references, but since they were of poor quality I had to use my best judgement (basically watching my own body and making the lines in the direction of main movement from the muscle).

3)I drew the flat colours. I think the best way is doing the darkest colours here and going to the lighter ones in the next step but that requires more forethought and understanding of colours than I don't have. Instead I chose to do the middle colours here, which has the advantage of giving a general idea of how things will look.
I assume you could start with the lightest (non-highlight) colours, but I think that may make you sick with all the over-saturated colours.
The flats allow me to make alpha layers easily so that I don't get out of the lines... as a kid I had terrible problems with that, and I still do

4)Now I just add shadows and lights. In the steps before you may have noticed it, but it's more present here, the fact that I tend to hide and unhide layers repeatedly. It's not because I'm a freak (although I may be), but because I like to make sure everything is looking fine, and this allows you to see errors.

After that I just changed the contrast in Photoshop. Not because I cannot do it in OpenCanvas, but because it's easier there.

History: Flower was born in Outland, then Draninor to two Draenei paladins, and was 6 when her little sister Sunrays was born. She and her sister both became paladins, but Flower was always ahead in her training. She was 18 when the orcs first attacked and battle with her sister against the orcs for 8 years, her parents dying during this time. Final, when the Draeneis knew it was lost, Flower took her sister with the few other Draeneis that had lived, where she hid with her sister until they soon learned that Blood Elfs had made it to Draninor, and they raided an attack and took one of the ships, but the Blood elfs caused some trouble with it, sending them flying into the Nether when they tried to escape.

When the Draeneis were forced to go into their escape pods, her pod took her way off of the mark she had made, where it landed in Icecrown, Northrend. She was forced to fight for her life because of all the undeads there, and while she killed many of them, they finally overcame her, and she died. She was soon raised as a Death Knight by the Lich King, and began her training, doing very well for being newly raised, and grew in the ranks. Soon, when the Lich King finally made his return, she was sent to the Eastern Kingdoms, where she took part in the Battle of Lighthope Chapel where she met her sister and was cured from her control.

Flower and Sunrays went to Stormwind to speak to the King where she met Alariais, Moon, Tear, and Frost. She was caught up on what had happened in the world since her undeath, and soon went to Northrend to battle the Lich King, wanting revenge because of what he had done to her. After the death of the Lich King, Flower returned to the Exodar, where she stayed with her sister for four years until Deathwing awoke and returned to the world. After that, she went to Stormwind to be a guard, where she met a worgen named Arrow and her sister Star. She informed Star about how her friends were going to go help the places that Deathwing had destroyed, and where they were needed at and the druid joined while Arrow stayed in Stormwind with Flower as a guard.

Here is Flower, my Death Knight! Next will be her sister, Sunrays, but I am still working on her history, but it shouldn't take long as most of it is the same as Flower's.

Personally: She is a caring person, who dislikes fighting sometimes, but when she goes into cat form she becomes more cat-like and will happily fight. She isnt a fan of caves, as she cant go into bird forms, as she likes being free to fly into the air and feel the wind below her wings. Because she cares about everybody (Other than undeads) and all animals, she is known to go to the King for the animal needs.

History: Alariais was born to a warrior and priest, both who wanted her to follow in their path. Alariais wasnt sure what path to follow; it became clear what path she would follow when at a young age she turning into a cat. Her parents were excited that she was to become a druid, as she could both heal and protect. She was a fan of healing, but soon set aside that path to become a feral (cat) druid. After years and years of exploring, doing dungeons, and making new friends, she learned that people were being sent to Outland, she happily went. There, she met a Draenei named Sunray. After a few months of killing things with Sunray, her and Sunray stayed in Stormwind for a while, during which she ran into a warlock that she had fought with before in Stranglethorn. In anger, the warlock cursed Alariais so she couldnt speak anything but cat, and made her stuck in cat form. After a few days, Alariais made it back to Stormwind where with the help of Morean, one of her friends, and Sunray, and a blood elf warlock named Tear that was staying at the keep, she was able to get out of her cat form (thought this made her nose to work like a cat) Hanging out with the druids in the Park, she soon went and made a case with a king for the animals, where she met Sunray, who had returned with a death knight. She soon learned that the death knight was Sunrays sister, Flower. Together with her friends, with Flower and Tear tagging along, they were able to kill the Lich King with the help of some of Tears horde friends. With having nothing to do, they friends went their own ways; Alariais ended up staying in Stormwind and lived in the park where she helped trained the druids that came. For about three years she did that, until the cataclysm happened. Being in the park when Deathwing awoke, she was able to get into the brackets before Deathwing destroyed the park and was rescued by some of the alliance soldiers. She spent the next few days recovering, where she became in charge of training a worgen druid named Stars as she was the only druid trainer in Stormwind left. She worked on training Star in her free times, but did explore and soon joined the Druid of the Talon. She then would go off with her friends to help people that were affected by the cataclysm.

Um, sorry that it is really long, but she is about 350 years old so she has a lot of histories, and I wasn't so keen on her past before she met all her friends.

Alariais is also to be noted as my first toon I ever made, so I care for her a lot and she is my main. My next toon to come up will most likely be my priest or mage.

Personally: She is quiet, and likes to be in the shadows as she is a shadow priest. When she is ticked off, which is rare of her, she will strike with whoever is bothering her with her full force. She also knows healing, and is always up for healing her friends.

History: Born to a family of priests, she was raised to be a pirest of Elune, but the dark side of healing seemed to call better with her, so she became a Shadow pirest, but learned holy magic to make her parents happy. When she reached 160 years old, she finally left her parents to become an adventure and became a skilled in inscription, being able to forge almost any document. When people were being sent to Outland, she ended up going to be a healer for the wounded, where she met a druid named Alariais and her friend Sunrays, soon becoming friends with them. When everything was done in Outland, and the rise of the Lich King started, she became the law writer for the King of Stormwind for a while when the old one was hurt in the attack of the undead before people were sent to Northrend. She soon went off to Northrend with Alariais, Sunrays, Flower, and Tear and helped kill the Lich King. After that, her and her friends went their own ways, she ended up staying in Stormwind with Alariais to become a priest at the chapel. Four years after that when Deathwing awoke, she was the one that healed Alariais after she was caught in the Park when Deathwing flew over the city, and soon started to help her in places along with her friends who had met again, and two new friends that had made, Dalstir, and Star.

Here I have Darknessmoon, my priest! Finally getting around to working on these, I have the base of all the rest of the written out of the rest of my toons, with just the last two not being filled in. Next is my Death Knight's who I have already finished.

When she reached 160 years old, she finally left her parents to become an adventure and became a skilled in inscription, being able to forge almost any document. When people were being sent to Outland, she ended up going to be a healer for the wounded, where she met a druid named Alariais and her friend Sunrays, soon becoming friends with them. When everything was done in Outland, and the rise of the Lich King started, she became the law writer for the King of Stormwind for a while when the old one was hurt in the attack of the undead before people were sent to Northrend. She soon went off to Northrend with Alariais, Sunrays, Flower, and Tear and helped kill the Lich King. After that, her and her friends went their own ways, she ended up staying in Stormwind with Alariais to become a priest at the chapel. Four years after that when Deathwing awoke, she was the one that healed Alariais after she was caught in the Park when Deathwing flew over the city, and soon started to help her in places along with her friends who had met again, and two new friends that had made, Dalstir, and Star.

Here I have Darknessmoon, my priest! Finally getting around to working on these, I have the base of all the rest of the written out of the rest of my toons, with just the last two not being filled in. Next is my Death Knight's who I have already finished.
