Finally got Character Number Two finished up. One character left to go.

Leil is a character with a very complex world and backstory, so I don't know how well I was able to explain how things work in just a few small paragraphs. I'll do my best to not talk about specific details of the character's backstory since this isn't really the place for that.

I created his character back when I was an underclassman in high school, and I was pretty awful when it came to cliches. As complicated as his world is, his story is filled with cliches. Also plot holes. Lots of plot holes. I think I may have overused magic as an excuse for anything that didn't make any sense.

One other thing. While it's full of fantasy and whatnot, Leil's story is, at its core, a superhero story. I hope it's read as such.

ANYWAY, HERE'S A LOOK INTO THE MIND OF FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD JEFFERLOPE.

Leil the "Hero"


World Background
For quite some time now, magical beings have been living among us in secret. They have been going to our schools, working in our offices, and living out their lives, just like us. They come from another world of their own, though, filled with every fantasy trope and cliche you could think of. I'm talking fairies and elves, spells and magical powers, enchanted objects and cursed artifacts, you name it.
Nearly everybody from this world can use magic in some form or another. Some mages (the general slang term for "magic users") are born with unique magical powers of their own, in the same way humans are born with their own unique fingerprints. Leil is one of these mages.

Who is he?
Leil was born and raised on a beach-side city (in our world). He was born with the natural ability to control shadows. As a preteen, he stumbled across an enchanted (or cursed) bracelet [details on the bracelet are down below] that began the focus of the rest of his life. That is, becoming a superhero of sorts. He spent his years helping innocent people in need of non-human help.

Leil had gone through many adventures and tragedies (stories for another day) before Jefferlope eventually got bored of his story and moved on to other ideas. Yep, Leil's story is now sorta frozen in place with no resolutions or closure to be found. At least, that's how it was before he had been summoned to The Real..

Personality
:bulletblack: He's quiet and calculating. He doesn't say much unless he feels something needs to be said.
:bulletblack: He will hold tight onto those close to him. He has already lost too many people in his life, and he will go through Hell to make sure he doesn't lose anymore.
:bulletblack: Since he plays the part of a superhero, he naturally has a superhero mentality. He will go out of his way to help an innocent person in need.
:bulletblack: He is currently in an emotional wreck. He's lost people very close to him, his world has just sorta.. stopped, and now he just found out he doesn't even exist. He doesn't even know what to think anymore.
:bulletblack: He's a natural-born leader. He always thinks ahead, and he always fights to protect those who put their trust in him.

Likes
:bulletblack: Help being given to those who need it.
:bulletblack: Quiet, eventless days.
:bulletblack: The safety of those close to him.

Dislikes
:bulletblack: Impulsive actions. He's looking at you, Jefferlope!
:bulletblack: Awful people committing awful deeds.
:bulletblack: Being awoken in the middle of the night. Damn bracelet..


Powers/Abilities
:bulletblack: His abilities give him control over shadows. When he uses his power, the shadows become a physical presence in the world. He can form the shadows into shapes, though he typically pulls them out in a tentacle-esque pattern. The shadows act as sort of extension of his limbs.
:bulletblack: He can (literally) hide himself in the shadows. He cannot take others with him, though.
:bulletblack: He can cast basic spells if given a medium (wand, spellbook, etc.). He doesn't have much training in the subject, so only the simple stuff.

Items

Magic Bracelet:
The bracelet on his right hand is a sort of magic superhero alarm system. The symbols on the bracelet glow when somebody near him is in non-human help. The alert also sends a sharp pain to his head. (The pain is reminiscent of that felt from a headache.)

The bracelet is enchanted (or cursed. Take your pick.) in that it's stuck on him. He has no way of taking it off.

Also, it's bright pink. He's gotten pretty used to people picking on him for that.

Battle Knife:
His knife is his main weapon in battle. It isn't just any knife, though. It's a [surprise, surprise] magic battle knife. He can make the knife appear in his hand just by thinking about it, and vice versa for making the knife disappear. He can also use this to poof the knife back into his hand if he dropped it or something.

The knife is built to be used as both a close combat knife and a throwing knife, though Leil's aim isn't all that great.

Strengths
:bulletblack: He is quick and agile, and knows his way around a fight. He's good with that knife of his.
:bulletblack: He's a natural-born leader. He's quick-witted, and he takes the time to plan and strategize, and always looks for what's coming.
:bulletblack: He is a fast learner and reasonably adaptive to new situations. For example, if being forced to switch weapons or fight on a new terrain, it won't take him long to get it down.

Weaknesses
:bulletblack: His shadow powers can't be used against a direct light source. If his opponent so much as glows, his powers are made worthless. At the same time, he can't use his powers in complete darkness, since shadows need light to form. (He shares this weakness with Brooke.)
:bulletblack: He really can't take a hit. Look how scrawny this kid is! On that note, he isn't a very heavy hitter either. I mean, his only weapon is a knife
:bulletblack: He is currently in a very broken emotional state, making him susceptible to psychological warfare.

Team Position
He plays the part of the leader and strategist. He'll keep the team organized and in order to the best of his ability, and he'll put a plan of attack before entering a situation.

In battle, he mostly relies on quick movements and counterattacks. He'll often use shadows to disable his opponents' movements before sweeping in with his knife.

Anyway.
As broken as Leil is at the moment, he will continue through The Real out of loyalty to those who depend on him. Bring it on.

Other Notes
:bulletblack: The hourglass mark on his hand is the remnants of a curse he was hit by some time ago. The curse was the cause of great turmoil for Leil, so the mark it left behind is a very distressing subject for him.
:bulletblack: Jefferlope's characters normally grow older with him, but since Leil's story simply stopped moving forward, he is stuck as a fifteen-year-old.
