well it is my bday! woo hoo! it is freakin' 5am pst. tim drake is my fav. robin- from the animated series.

i like to think when he's robin he slicks his hair back- bc it's 'go time'- when he's 'tim' he doesn't care so much.

the set up of alter ego vs self totally inspired by [link] ego series. robins pose was also influenced in slight by kizer's batman... but it was also how my pencil wanted to draw him.

I wish I could post all of these individually since the colors don't match but I didn't take the time to lineart them so that's what I get No way am I spamming you guys with half-assed sketches lol

Anyway, these definitely needed to be posted because they are the base for a series of strips I have coming up, all with wheelchair!Tim. I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed drawing them this summer!

an extremely amusing conversation sprang up between my sisters and i when i posed this question. kateri, being the from-a-distance type when it comes to clare's and my fandoms, pointed at this sketch and said, "THIS robin is the best robin."

i ignored that. and when i told clare i thought tim drake was the best, she answered, "i dunno. i REALLY like dick..."

i started laughing so hard. i couldn't help it. she practically THREW my mind into the gutter with that otherwise harmless comment.

okay...I did it. I submitted American comics fanart. I'm GOING TO HELL!

Not that you can tell who they are really...;

This is Cassandra Cain, the last Batgirl in DC comics continuity.

The redhead Batgirl most are familiar with is Barbara Gordon, who got shot and paralzyed from the waist down by the Joker in the 1980's Batman comics. *shakes head* I'll never figure out what they were thinking...anyhoo...She's now a computer/intelligence wizard by the name of Oracle who helps out the superhero community and is part of the badass superhero female team called, Birds of Prey, alongside Black Canary and the Huntress.

My fave batgirl is Cass though.

Since birth, she had been raised and trained to be the world's best martial artist in complete isolation and silence. As a result, she can read body language and therefore predict her opponents movements and emotions. Fighting is her language.

Her father wanted her to be the best assasin and at the age of eight, she was sent on her first test to kill a mob leader with her bare hands. She succeeded.

However, because of her innate abilities, she was able to see death the way the man saw it as he died and it scared her shitless. She suddenly realized that "it was not a game" what her father wanted her to do and she ran away from him and swore to never kill again.

Fast Forward to a few years later and she encounters Oracle in a "No Man's Land" Gotham that is torn by an earthquake and plague, a real crime-war-zone. Here she becomes Oracle's messenger of sorts and eventually meets up with Batman and the others. After saving Commissioner Gordon's life, she is given the Batgirl mantle.

What follows is seven years of her own comic book series. We see her trying to overcome her guilt for killing that man, struggle against her training and not kill anyone, gain the ability to talk and lose her defensive abilities at the same time, regain her abilities, struggle to learn to read, struggle to fit in with the rest of the Bat family, fight various villains including world's best martial artist Lady Shiva, make friends, meet boys, lose friends, get her own batcave, apartment and then her own city (Bludhaven, Gotham's sister city).

Through it all, she keeps to her vow of "No Killing".

Near the end she desires to learn who her mother is and goes on a roadtrip that eventually lands her in Ras al Ghul's League of Assassins led by Ras al Ghul's crazy daughter Nyssa. Here she once again fights with Lady Shiva who she has discovered is her real mother.

Problem is Lady Shiva gave birth to her for the sole purpose that one day, Cass would be the best in the world and kill her. (Lady Shiva has a death wish). Cass sorta "kills" her, but leaves her mother hanging over a Lazarus Pit, possibly in hopes that when Shiva comes back to life, she will start anew. (there's this theme of death and rebirth with Cass and Shiva, don't mind it.)

In the end, Cass gives up the Batgirl mantle, probably realizing that she has outgrown it since she can no longer accept Batman's way of doing things. (she looked up to Batman more than anyone and wanted to BE Batman, but in the end realized that Batman didn't exactly have her best interests in mind...). So she decides to wander the world as a wanderer "simply named Cain."

Twas sad, to see her series end, but ya accept it. *shrugs*

What no one can accept is that DC crapped on her character in the Robin comic: ONE YEAR LATER (which is about a year after Batman took Robin and Nightwing on a year long journey about self-discovery with the means to become closer.) Basically, in the Robin comic book we discover that Cass has become the new leader of the League of Assassins and wants Robin to join her and but first, shoot her father, David Cain.

WTF? What about her no-killing vow? This is like...Rurouni Kenshin deciding to leave Kaoru after Jinchu to wander the world again, but coming back as crazy Battosai, asking Yahiko to join him in killing people to rid the world of evil...IT JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN!

Apparently, Cass becomes evil because she was drugged by Deathstroke (Slade for you Teen Titans fans). Though in the Robin series, she says she became the way she is because her father had another kid after her. Yeah, *facepalm* Stupid DC...

ANYWAYS, the other two boys are Tim Drake (Robin III) and Dick Grayson (Nightwing aka Robin I)

I originally tried to draw Damian Wayne (Batman and Thalia's son) and Jason Todd (Robin II whose come back from the dead) and make this picture a trio of Bat rejects. XD;;

But Damian came out looking too old. I wanted to draw him as an 11 year old. But he looks a lot like Tim Drake looked like when he was 15. (Timmy was sporting a spiked hair look for a while)...so I modified it a bit and now he looks more like Tim did before One Year Later happened.

SO yes, this is Tim Drake, aka the third and final Robin. And yes, Tim was a lot more innocent before.

Let's see...Tim lost his girlfriend (who was in comics for almost a decade), Stephanie, aka The Spoiler, who was tortured by a mad man and left to die by a family friend (wtf?)

Soon after that, another blow comes when he can't get to his father in time and is only able to hear him get killed through his earpiece.

Oh and to add further salt to the wound...his main best friend, Superboy, who was possessed and went on a rampage in which he broke Robin's arm, but eventually recovers and retires....comes back to the Teen Titans only to DIE in a HUGE battle.

It's funny how super-human Superboy dies from crashing into a building...yet Nightwing, a regular human...survives by jumping around to avoid falling wreckage.

*facepalm*

Nope, not the end. When he met Superboy, he also met Impulse, later Kid Flash, and the trio became best friends and formed their own little superhero team called Young Justice. Later on they were joined by Wonder Girl and had other members who'd come and go. Eventually, the four became the new Teen Titans, but my point is...

His first friends were Superboy and Kid Flash aka Bart Allen.

Yup, that's right. Bart dies too. First Bart disappears for a while and comes back an adult. O_o and goes off to become the Flash since Wally and the other Flashes are gone/retired. That was sad for Robin, but (like what? After a few issues of the Flash comics) Bart suddenly loses his powers and is beaten to death by a rogue of villains.

No joke. And Robin has to speak at his funeral too. So that makes it...girlfriend, father (only living parent), and two best friends all dead in the span of two years (a little over a year in comic continuity). Yup, sucks to be him.

Oh yeah, and his ally, Batgirl, goes crazy and tries to seduce him, and when that fails, goes off to continue killing more people. *facepalm*

I'm not surprised Robin's slated to go crazy in the comics. I'm serious. Apparently, the DC previews for the next few months state that Robin will finally go over the edge and its up to Batman and Nightwing to bring him back to his senses.

Oh, speaking of which, the older young man is Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing (and the first Robin). Teen Titan fans...this is YOUR Robin.

He was supposed to be Jason, but I can't seem to draw Jason right. He always ends up looking like Dick. So I gave up and modified him into Dick. The way to tell them apart, is that Dick looks slightly older and has longer hair. Though many times Dick wears his hair parted on one side...and Jason ALWAYS has it parted in the middle... *sighs* too lazy to redraw it on the side. Anyways, Nowadays they're drawing Jason with shorter hair, so it's all good.

What can I say about Dick? The man's fucking gorgeous. Okay, forget that. Circus boy lost his parents and became the first Robin and helped put together the Teen Titans. Was the oh so fearless and intelligent leader of the Teen Titans for many years, and later on became the sexy, charming, Nightwing. As a youngin' he's Batman's cheerful Golden Boy. (Jason was Batman's Angry Robinboy and Tim is his Nerd Robinboy)

Dick's first love was Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) and second love was Kory (Starfire). He came pretty close to marrying both women but in the end didn't. Don't ask, I'm still not sure of the details. Currently, he's being a manwhore sleeping with several women after recently breaking up his engagement to Barbara. (he's about 26, I'd say...) and...well he's an antisocial jerk lately? I want to smack him hard lately...not sure why...maybe it's the sleeping around...or maybe I'm still mad about him quiting the Titans and the Outsiders (another superhero team) just because he doesn't want to get emotionally attached to anyone anymore.

Yeah...good luck with that, Dick. -_-

(his dear friend, Donna Troy died while they were the Titans and he could no longer stand it so made a promise to never get emotionally attached to a team...yeah, GET OVER IT DICK!).

So yes! A TOAST to my dear Bat family members from TWO YEARS AGO....when things were still a little bright, not insane, and just plain wrong. OH yeah, and Hope existed.

I like my angst, but this is ridiculous. *facepalm*

Just a quick update to show I'm not dead. This is actually a pretty old picture, probably two, three years?

Clockwise from the top...

Jason Todd aka Red Hood (Robin II), my fave of the Robins, died, came back to life to wreck havoc on Gotham City and Bruce Wayne's nerves as the Red Hood. Then went through a crazy period under writers Tony Daniel and Morrison...currently featuring in his one shot miniseries RED HOOD: LOST DAYS, explaining what he was up to after his return to the living and before he revealed himself to Batman.

Tim Drake aka Red Robin now (Robin III) young, geeky paranoid Robin featuring in his own book, Red Robin, and enacting a plan that works like dominoes to capture as many criminals as soon as possible with no mercy...

Cassandra Cain aka Batgirl III went through a crazy period of bad writing by writer Adam Beechen, and is now retired from the Batgirl role, having stripped herself of the mantle (literally) to leave it behind for her best friend Stephanie (Batgirl IV). Current whereabouts: Hong Kong? The world may never know. It's probably for the best considering her bad luck in the past 3-4 years?

Dick Grayson aka Batman (aka Nightwing & Robin I) mostly known as Batman's first and most charming sidekick...he's taken up his mentor/father's mantle and is protecting Gotham City to the best of his ability while Bruce Wayne is lost in time but steadily making his way back...Hang in there Dick!

Had fun trying to show the difference in ages and styles. Hopefully, someday I'll get around to drawing the updated Bat Family in its entirety...and in something a bit more interesting than portrait style. I'll move this to my scrapbook later on.

Like all dysfunctional families, there will be a few black sheep.

The Batfamily is no different. XD;

Anyways, I really wanted to draw Batman with all his sidekicks and son. >>;

On the right-hand side we got Batman, Nightwing and Robin.

On the lelf-hand side, we got Cass, Jason and Damian, who I affectionately call the Batmisfits for not exactly fitting in with the Batclan, but are in some shape or form, related to or part of it.

From top to bottom:

Pretty asian girl is Cassandra Cain, aka the last batgirl, Age: 19-20.
She was Batman's most loyal female sidekick, until she went off on her own to search for her long lost mother. She found her, fought her, and decided to give up the Batgirl mantle and wander the world as a girl named "Cain."

Afterwards, she was drugged by Slade and made into a cheesy Bond Villainess who tried to turn Robin to the dark side. *facepalm* Robin was able to give her an antidote and bring her back to her senses. But she was pissed and vowed to kill Slade. When she couldn't, she disappeared. current status: Unknown.

Second is Jason Todd, aka Robin II and now the Red Hood. Age: 20-21
A brat who was found stealing the tires off the batmobile, was taken in by Batman who was impressed by his spunk and later trained to be Robin. Eventually, he too went off to search for his long-lost mother, tried to save her, ended up beaten and blown up by the Joker. Dead for almost 20 years of comic book history until last year(?). Due to retarded writing, he was brought back from the dead and became a nutjob killing all bad people in various violent ways.

Current status: is on a long world-traveling journey through the 52 alternative universes in search of Ray Palmer (aka the Atom) who is believed to be the key to saving the multiverse (basically, all of existance). He's accompaning Donna Troy (aka Wonder Girl I), Kyle Rayner (youngest Green Lantern, aka Ion) and Bob (dude that dragged them all together solely because they're actually not supposed to be alive, but are and so are entitled to save all the worlds in existance).

The child is Damian Wayne son of Talia al Ghul and Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. Age: 8-14 yrs old? First appearance he's 8-10 yrs. Latest he looks 11-12. And on a future cover of Robin, he looks 14-16! He's probably 8-10 but his mom or the league are aging him for some reason.

The kid's a brat who was genetically modified to be perfect and trained since birth by the League of Assasins. He really wants to be Robin and help his dad, Batman. Problem is he's not afraid of killing people, including the current Robin.
I'm kinda happy with how he turned out. He's just a lost little boy who wants to make his daddy happy, even if his daddy doesn't like him.

Current status: on the run with his mother, from crazy members of the League who are trying to use his body to ressurect his dead grandpa, Ras al Ghul.

Now on to the actual Batcrew, Top to bottom:

Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. If you don't know who he is by now...you've been living under a rock. XD; The guys been around for decades, fighting crime in Gotham City. I'm actually happy I got him right on the first try. :3 he came out just as I wanted him to. The guy's somewhere in his mid-30's to late 30's
Current Status: er...still fighting crime in Gotham City, working on the Outsiders, JLA and chasing after uh...the League of Assasins? (I think?)

Next is Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing and the first Robin.
Age: mid 20's. I'll guesstimate 26 yrs old.
I hope ya'll know his story by now. He's the only Robin that's been animated or shown in the movies. Yup, he's the Robin in Teen titans too. I'm happy with how he turned out. I wanted to draw a beautifully handsome Nightwing. XD; But slightly older than Jason. (doesn't get why the artists are drawing Jason and Dick as the same age...there's gotta be at least a 5 yr age difference...)

Current status: uh...not sure. I lost track. I think he's fighting crime in New York City now.

Finally, Tim Drake, aka Robin III.
Age: 17.
After discovering Nightwing and Batman's true identities, he tried to persuade Batman to LIGHTEN UP (since Jason had died, batman had become darker/more violent) In the end, he took up the mantle of Robin and trained his ass off to be better than all previous Robins. I'd say Batman has lightened up...problem is...Tim's gotten darker. Well, Batman adopted Tim and now they're more like son and father. It's sweet but...creepy sometimes. XD;

If Dick was the Original, cheerful, acrobatic Robin and Jason was the hardcore, moody, tough Robin, then Tim is the intelligent, no-nonsense, nerdy Robin. XD So I tried to draw him not as a tough guy, but as a nice smart guy. Not sure I succeeded. But at least I got his current hairstyle right.

Current Status: erm...fighting some of his own rogues? Supporting Batman? uh...leading the Teen Titans and fighting other world's versions of his dead friends? This kid needs to stick in school. No wonder he's gonna snap soon. -_-;

I sketched these out at work. yay for my second submitted American comics fanart.

These characters, unfortunately, belong to DC comics and Warner Brothers, and editor Didio can crap on them as long as he's in charge. =_= *sighs*

Uploading because Tumblr seems to really enjoy this pic haha. Just having fun with the whole DC reboot thing. I actually like the new costume and I am curious to see what new things DC is going to have for us this fall. Good or bad, you never know until you try!

So, I recently re-read Blue Beetle (2006) - such a great book, shame it's over but at least it went out in top form.

Random sketches of some of the DC teens - namely the Batkids (Cass, Steph, Tim, and Damian) plus the trio from Blue Beetle (Jaime, Brenda, and Paco). There's a tiny Traci13 in the bottom right as well.

I drew post-OYL Robin Tim alongside Red Robin Tim because his new haircut displeases me, lol.

Damian is totally a Cass fanboy.

Just all the Robin doodles I've done over the past couple of days =v=; I only coloured Nightwing because I drew those two on different canvases, at different times, while the others were drawn in two batches.

First time drawing these guysss. But it's about time I did, since I love them so much ; O; I actually...kinda like Tim's new outfit BD; It's harder to draw but hrngg...it's not that bad.

I like drawing Jason Todd with a shit-eating grin, looking all insane and batshit crazy >v>; With blood. Maybe. Yeahhhh.
