I only started watching The Last Airbender last week and have already reached the series finale (Gonna watch it later, can't wait). So, I've made these nails There's Aang on the thumb, his little 3D glider on the ring finger and some glittery, 'swooshy', silver/grey designs on the other nails. These aren't peeeerfect, I rushed them a bit, but I'm pleased I got to practice painting faces again (although, still can't paint real, human faces). Arrgh, which reminds me! How creepy was that Face Stealer?! :/

Anyway, I haven't been posting much lately, sorry about that. Hopefully I can get back on track again - starting with these Hope you like them x

An idea I've been meaning to try. Love how this came out! I never want to take it off! I'll be doing different stones, this is only the first in a series I have planned.

This was a multiple step process... But I'll try to explain it quickly. I might make a tutorial for this if there's enough interest.

Materials I used-
Polishes: Teal, mint green, sky blue, black, and a clear top coat.
Other stuff: A dish of room temperature water, gold powered pigment, hair spray in a pump bottle (no aerosol), cotton swabs, tape, makeup sponge, acetone

1. Paint nails a suitable shade of teal. You want good coverage so you may need more than one coat. Allow to dry.

2. Using a makeup sponge, lightly sponge on other shades similar to your base color to add some variation. Turquoise is rather irregular so flat color won't look as realistic. I used a baby blue and a light mint green for this step. Again, allow to dry.

3. Apply a clear coat. While it is still wet sprinkle gold powered pigment onto your nails. You can also use loose eyeshadow for this. Allow to dry before rinsing your nails under cool running water to remove the excess pigment. Let your hands dry.

4. Tape off the skin around your nails, we're going to be water marbling! Seriously. Do this. You'll save yourself a lot of time with the cleanup.

5. Drop one drip of your black polish onto the surface of your water and allow it to spread a bit. Squirt the polish with about two pumps of hairspray at a distance of about two inches. It should break apart into little web like patterns and veins. This is what you want.

6. Dip your fingers into your now spotty, veiny floating polish. Gather up the excess with a cotton swab before removing your fingers from the water. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all your fingers are done.

7. Clean up!

Trouble shooting:

1. If your polish isn't floating and spreading on the surface of the water there are a few possible reasons why. First of all, the polish might be old. Secondly, the water may not be room temperature. Third, and often overlooked, you may have hard water. If you suspect this to be the case, use distilled water.

2. The hairspray may mess with the surface tension of your water, making it difficult for your polish to spread properly. If this happens, dip a cotton swab into your water near to where the polish is floating. It should result in the polish spreading out a bit and allowing you to continue.

3. Don't sponge wet nails. You risk taking up some of your base color and you'll have a mess. If you want to do a second application with the sponge, allow the first to dry.

This was my attempt at the one stroke technique which I found pretty much impossible, so probably wont be trying that again. Anyway, not a very good example of one stroke-y painting, but I like how these turned out, I think. Not very exciting but thought I'd post them up anyway x

This is my entry for the Nail Art Contest @ #ArtHistoryProject I'm sooo excited about it since I'm a self-confessed polish junkie and follow like a gazillion nail blogs.I just can't get enough of them pretty colours (and if you by any chance wish to gift me some, here's my wishlist! )

But nail art is really a wonderful thing. The term itself applies to anything from simple polka dots to miniature figurines glued onto the nails - so there's really something for everyone's tastes and needs. As for me, I do enjoy elaborate designs, but I love them wearable. And if possible, not very time and effort consuming, because chances are I'll grow bored of it the same day and everything will go down the acetone-saturated cotton pad.

So while brainstorming the design I was thinking something original, not overly complicated but still artsy. And one of the first ideas, which I eventually opted for, was...
...galaxy nails!!

How freaking original, I hear you saying.
Welp. Yeah. But not quite.

The thing is, and here I'm going to sound like a bitch but deal with me, whenever I'd see a galaxy mani, I'd go "meh, I could make it like a million times better" in my head.
Until I've actually tried it...

Ughhhyeaaaah...not exactly what I expected. But the idea of having the PERFECT galaxy nails didn't leave me since then. So that's what I aimed for: a design which would be as close to the space photographs as possible. And...I think I have pretty much succeeded.

Unlike my first attempt, which was all done with polish, this time I painted with acrylics over two coats of my most favourite blue polish - Orly La Playa. Acrylic paint is a marvel for nail art - easier to work with and doesn't get smudged by top coat. I've actually done different hands on different days, and my dominant right hand (in pink) is not as intricately painted as the left one - but then again, I've spent three times less time on it, and my left hand is bit clumsy! I used a make-up sponge, a thin brush and some toothpicks for this mani.

Finally, to spice it up a bit (and because fanart would make me popular ), I added a a little cartoonish TARDIS to my left thumbnail! Isn't it adorable?? I just love it. Its body is painted with Essie Mesmerize and outlined with acrylics. I haven't done enough finger yoga to show all five nails in one pic, sorry.

As it usually happens, it looks even better in life, but only because these photos are taken with my macro lens, and you simply cannot see the brushstrokes with your naked eye. I'm going to write a blog entry on this mani, so I'll try to take a "distant" pic, too.

Anyway. Enough ramble, I hope you like it like I do. And I want to pull my nails out so I could keep it forever.

Briar Rose nail design-Inspired by disney's Aurora

i wanted some disney themed nails for a while and i started out with princess Aurora from sleeping beauty. I didn't sit to paint her on my nails, there are way too many out there, so I just made an aurora theme. Lots of blues and pinks, like her changing dress was.

These are actually made off the nail, as reusable tips. I built them out of gel and then painted them and the roses and hearts are made out of acrylic powder. I'll have a small tutorial and materials used on my blog later on today. I have some more designs there so if you want go and check them out.

I don't post my nails designs here often but this one came out lovely

Finger Nails again! I just sometimes get in that mood to paint my fingernails with random things.

Tomorrow I go to a Guinea Pig Show together with my mum, so I thought, since I had to put the Smilies down anyway, why not paint some cute piggies?

That weird floating nail in the bottom right corner is my thumbnail... *mad gimp-skills going on*

I used pink nail polish for the first layer, painted the piggies with acrylic paint and then added a layer of transparent top coat.
