This was fun. For painting class we were just focusing on flesh. Lips are good and fleshy. The lighting when I took the photo reference made some cool colors come out in my skin too! Done February '06 oil on canvas, 30''x30''

Hello everyone! I wanted to just send a shout out to all fans of my lips. You guys are wonderful! I thank you all for your great comments, I appreciate them. I dont always log on deviantart very often so I can't keep even keep up with all your comments so don't be offended if you leave me a comment and don't get my feedback. I try to read through what I can when I can.

_{I made this painting for the 1000Drawings project, it's a one night exhibition for charity in Amsterdam, on May the 11th. There will be 1000 drawings for sale for the same low, accessible price (10).. this is my partecipation to the event. So, I hope that someone among you will find my little watercolor and buy it!

Proceeds will be donated to support FairPen, which helps children in Uganda to run an editorial office with their peers, investigate issues, think critically, and publish handwritten, handdrawn newspapers to each other and to their local communities.

a birthday present for my dad, he LOVES neytiri so i just had to paint her for him

materials: oil paints on self-stretched canvas
time: approx 2 hours

(sorry my camera is complete shit...looks better in person )

*tips for working fast*
-organize the paints on your palette; blues next to the blues, greens next to those, arrange them by what colors can mix with others, makes for fast and easy color mixing
-turpenoid (or paint thinner); depending on what style you're going for, load up your paint with turp, this gives you a watery looking paint but also helps it dry faster and easy to blend on. great for backgrounds and loose areas (its also great for going in later to do sharp lines and edges) and is a great mixing medium
-a little bit of paint goes a long way! don't load up your canvas with gobs of paint, (unless thats the look you're going for) the less paint you use, the easier it is to blend without the paint getting muddled
-work from light to dark; if you happen to use a lot of paint, its MUCH more difficult to add highlights to dark areas. instead, add shadows to light areas

_{I recently found this painting that I made a couple of years ago, I never posted it anywhere. I wanted draw a different looks, a doll's looks, with improbable and excessive eyes, but I never decided if I liked the result.
Now I'm seeing her looks and her red hanging eyes have become something special, the imperfect technique runs well here, I think. (:

Finally finished!
Because I still need to varnish the artwork you can find some disturbance in the smoothness of the skin. This is because the brushstrokes each capture the light in a different way.
I will later try to add a better picture.

this is the finished version of the artwork 'Perfume.' I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am with the daily deviation award on the previeuw version. I always design my paintings in acrilics so that in a minimum of time I can add different strokes of colour while the paint is drying fast. Once i am happy about the result I finish the painting in oil, adding rich and full colours while detailling the work. It warms my heart to read your wonderfull comments and so I want to thank you all for watching me!!!

Just because it makes me concerned. As a child I saw "Bodyguard" with my father and loved the movie. Later, it was mainly the common song with Mariah Carey from the movie "The Prince of Egypt", which I heard for days or even weeks. These are just two of the moments which I like to remember, when I think of Whitney Houston. I find it deplorable how the last few years have run and I grieve for a great talent. Still, I'll remember only the good moments that one of the greatest voices has brought to the world.

I don't want to talk to much about the artistical part by myself, but I've to say it was good to paint in a very emotional way and let the watercolors cry... I feel better now.

As soon as the paint was dry, I added layers of colour in a process of glazing. I knew it was a risky job because I couldn't predict the final result.
And that's when disaster striked! After adding gentle shades of orange and pink in order to create a soft skintone, I immediatly noticed that the underlying grey-tones were fatal.
No matter how i tried, I had to face the fact that my little daughter's portrait looked like a three day old corpse!
No worries, exept for the fact that I had to repaint the whole skintone. It worked out allright in the end, but the vintage effect that I was aming for, went lost in the whole process of repainting. Still, a nice result, even if not spectacular. I hope you will enjoy!

One of my favorite paintings from this past year, Joan of Arc, has just been posted to my website gallery. This work was created over five days back in May and is now featured in my latest step by step DVD. Released just this week in celebration of the 600th anniversary of Joan's birth, the film illuminates my entire painting process, from rough sketches to the final oil glazes.

Oil painting of a mannequin from the Macy's Flower Show, New York (its a public display that happens ever year - they don't always use mannequins, but there are always plants and flowers, which temporarily transform the window displays into "urban jungles"... all the buildings and people around form a parergon for what is going on inside the window)

Edit = I've finally uploaded a higher quality image of my painting. It's closer to the original painting now, as the saturation is up (I painted the roses as a glaze, where it's just one thin wash of oil paint, backlit by the white canvas, for high saturation). I hope you can also see the texture in the background now.

Finally done, phehw.
I know it's the younger's style (and out of fashion) doing such rainbow stuffs, but I have a special reason why.
No, Wera isn't gay. She is a hair-dying-freak. She has actually dark blond hair, and dyes the bottom section of it. Every week she changes it's colour. when it happens she is jumping around and shows off her new haircolour. like a child. Look, it's green! Look, it's blue/purple/yellow/pink/black, etc... She look something like this with feshly-dyed hair XD
By painting this I made one of her dreams true (partly...)

took about 4-6 hours. reference used [link] . Still need to practice more though; can't control the brush as well as i'd like yet. I keep wiping off colours i put on before with the brush accidentally when trying to put on more colours. Maybe I'm using too much oil to dilute it.

For a while now i had wanted to paint a Nude, as i have never painted one before. But commitments last year ment i wasnt able to do it straight away. Now seemed a good time to try one out, so here it is.

i enjoyed painting it, the techniques used were slightly different to what i would use in my usual subjects. so it made a nice change.

im still undecided as to what to call it...
