So, here it is again. And it's got a name now: Murmel! (that's german and means marble / glass bead in english). I think this name fits him pretty well. Thanks to susu-chan for this awesome name! : D

Ah, and the little girl beyond him is Maya, the main character of a childrensbook-story I'm recently thinking of...

I made this picture for illustration class. We had to let our characters do three things.
1) Send a letter.
2) Skate in the halfpipe.
3) Jump over a dead rabbit. (Yeah...I know what you're thinking. Wasn't my idea.)

I'll upload the other two pics in the next days : D

So last weekend I went to see the Type Truck, an old bread truck traveling around America showing people how to use a letterpress. [link] The truck was just begging to have a letterbox and it was parked right outside a craft store. I went in, bought materials and carved a stamp while sitting on a bench. It's not my best carving ever but then, I didn't have a stamp pad to check the quality... I got a logbook and the craft store kindly donated the cigar box. I don't know if the letterbox is up on the site yet (that'll be up to Kyle, the owner of the letterpress) but hopefully she does put it up there at some point. ]]> [link] Understand now? Good.

Fiona Apple has a really nice cover (a bit softer and more dreamy, but The Beatles' version has more rhythm) which I was obsessed with a while ago. Anyway, as I was listening to The Beatles' version I fell in love with it all over again, and so I did this in the spirit of the song. Music is such a cool inspiration like that. No plan as usual, I just had the song on repeat and this is what it made. It's mostly watercolours, with ink for the words flowing out (into the paper cup ). I used an old toothbrush for the tiny specs of white , and actually painted the black outlines on the little 'things' on the right and elsewhere with a tiny brush, until I realised a pen could do the exact same thing much more easily lol.

Paper is a bit smaller than A4.

The bird is a peaquail (a mixture of a quail and a peacock I came up with), nestled next to a kitten in a tortilla. There's a cowboy boot behind them and some calla lilies around ... and yes, that just might be Santa Claus sneaking around back there! Or it might be a bear. *shifty eyes*

And since it's for my best friend, cue the mushy, sentimental stuff. *ahem* Erik ... I don't know why I avasociate with someone as deckish as you. All you are in my life is shethtt and it brings me no fomcoft. You're hot, but that doesn't make up for it. And yet, I still, like, love you or something. Ew.

.... -cue the real stuff- XD Erik, I feel like the luckiest person alive just to have you as a friend. You're one of the biggest motivations in my life, and you will forever be the best roommate a freak could ever have. We always have the best adventures, whether it's exploring new places until we find letterboxes or camping out in the living room with lasanga, it's a blast being around you. It just never gets old! ^o^ Thank you for always being there for me; no matter how big or small my problems are, your willingness to listen and offer hugs always helps infinitely. My life would suck without you. I love you!

So anyway, I've been wanting to draw some jewel-like flouncy sophisticated-ish stuff, and I ended up with this. (why u do dis shoving and ramming down the throats? no other large religious organisations do.)}

But yah, this is his horse, Morgenstern. (German: Morning Star) You can't tell terribly well because of the epic black, but his armour should conform fairly well to 15th century Germanic horse barding, with a touch of artistic license (technically German crinets were often...less covering) and fancying up. BECAUSE DUNDUNDUN...his owner is a Teutonic Knight. They are beyond awesome. And because I swear I live to counteract stereotypes, the knight is short and scrawny and a deserter, and Morgenstern is bay and not black or grey, and has a habit of chasing mares at inconvenient times. But he is a big destrier. Couldn't let that one go. x3

I think this was my second chiaroscuro. Touchups in PS. It did a stint as my wallpaper; the file is 1024 wide, 1280 in Download, 1600 here, and looks fine with black letterboxing in squarish aspect ratios like mine. x3

Poor dust - I've somehow transformed a beautiful young girl into something resembling a witch. I think it's the hair - it's a bit too wild. Hair is hard.

I had a similar "moment" to the one in faer lisa, where it suddenly came into focus and I thought - this sucks. The moment was a bit easier to explain though - it was because I'd put on my glasses and everything really had come into focus and I could see all the strokes, and it did suck. But in the end, unlike faer lisa, I feel reasonably pleased with the end result. It there was something very satisfying about chasing out the hair highlights with my electric eraser.

The paper and pencil were the same as yesterday - ebony pencil on marker paper. The paper will do while I don't have bristol, but I'm thinking I might try the next one with carbon pencil on sketch paper. Or even charcoal paper - I've got some of that. ]]> at [link]

This is still a rough work in progress, and I was just working out some ideas on this one. This was done with Micron Pigma pens on printer paper, except for the 'letterbox' which was done with a sharpie and cleaned up in Photoshop. Little under an hour on this one. ]]> here.

I had this animation rough sitting in my files, only about 25% done, so I finished roughing out the frames up this evening, adding more details, fleshing out frames of Maggie from "stick-figure" roughs, adding cloth, hair and facial animations.

I'm happy with it for now, more solid as an animation. And the more I work on it the more I want to produce something based on Maggie and Co. A short or something.

A little cleanup and this would make a nice "commercial message/(CM)" animation bit. ]]>

The 1987 Holden Commodore VL Calais. Featuring a Nissan RB30ET engine, these 6 cylinder turbos were good for 200bhp and 0-60mph in 7 seconds. This particular example has been customised for a client and features 19" VY GTS Shadowchrome wheels, a monster tach mounted externally, lowered suspension and a HDT letterbox-style grille in place of the factory eggcrate item.
