Santa Claus is coming to town....
I'm 99% sure i made his list ,hope you made his list too

I always wanted to do a classic looking St Nicholas Santa.
I hope i achieved that

I have been working on this for a long time
i decided to do it in color because i just love
Christmas colors plus i had a real life santa as my
model to work from which made it much easier
with his blessing and premission of Marion
(Thank you so much )

Completed on 11x8'5 vellum board worked with prisma colored pencils,
i used some pastels for the background with a painting brush so i can get
those little sparkles and went over them in the end with a tiny brush and white acrylic and used some for the hair strands as well

My dream has always been to tell stories through animation. As an artist and animator, I've been mostly self-taught. The following are a list of books that I've found particularly helpful to me over the years. Hopefully they will be helpful to you too!

Highly Recommended:

Story
by Robert McKee.

Of all the literature on story writing, this is the absolute best. Of all the books I recommend, this one I recommend the most. It tells you what goes into writing a great story. And it can't be read just once. I've read it at least three times and each time I feel I have a deeper understanding of story. a MUST-READ!

Drawing the Head and Figure
by Jack Hamm

This is a great book for learning human anatomy better. The drawings are fantastic. I went through cover to cover and copied all (well most) of the examples from the book. This book focus on the overall shapes and outline of the human figure, more than the specific muscles.

Anatomy for the Artist

This is another great book on anatomy. This book, unlike the previous one, focuses more on bones, muscles, etc. They go great in combination. I've drawn from this book a lot as well. And not just once. Many times!

Dynamic Figure Drawing

Another anatomy book. I prefer the other two, but this one is also great. It breaks down the shapes that constitute the human body and manipulates them in all different poses and perspectives.

Walt Stanchfield was called in by Walt Disney to help teach the new animation staff to become better artists and animators. There is a lot of material to go over, but its all wonderful. And it's available online! I highly recommend reading these notes. Walt talks about how to create drawings that tell a story, which is what its all about, right?

Oga Kazuo's work is stunning. He has been working for Studio Ghibli doing background art for many years. I learn a lot just by staring at his paintings. I try to replicate his paintings in Painter for practice. I don't know how hard it is to get his books ... I bought mine while I was in Japan.

This book is a collection of essays by Hayao Miyazaki. He talks about his early experiences in animation, his work and what it means to him. It's very inspirational. He also talks about the animation industry in Japan, which I found very interesting.

Art of Princess Mononoke

I saw this book in Barnes and Noble when I was in high school ... and it changed my life! This was before I even heard of Princess Mononoke. I was just blown away by the visuals. It was my first time really seeing something that was so profoundly different from the Disney animation that I had grown up with. The book has a lot of production stills from the movie, but also has tons of watercolor sketches by Miyazaki himself. It also has lots of big pictures of paintings by Oga Kazuo. A great book!

Art of the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Art of the Lion King
I'm having a hard time finding the original, full size versions of these books online. These are also great "art of" books that tell you a lot about the Disney animation process. Great for thinking about how your portfolio should look when applying for a job!

And because I want to find out how I am acquiting myself I`m starting a small contest here.
Anyone who can name all of the portrayed characters here will be getting the original. Sent by mail on my expense.

If there are several correct answers the winner will be drawn.
If there are none I´m gonna kill myself... So please help me out here!

This was a final project from last semester. I only recently got it back from my instructor. The idea was to make a picture with a theme that showed a great deal of depth.

After a lot of debate in my sketch book and having many ideas shot down by my instructor ( I hate when I have to pitch ideas and have them shot down. Especially when I have dead lines) I settled on doing insects. The ideas behind the insects soon took on a mind of their own and I soon went honey happy. A honey high that lasted two weeks after the end of the semester. Yes Im that nuts.

Even Bees who have a one track mind, still need shopping lists to remind them what theyve gone to the store for it seems.

This picture was done in water color and pen and ink, on water color paper.

David Orr's Interspecies Conflict Wishlist, Part II

~ 'Citipati vs. Gigantoraptor: I see the little dude running circles around Giganto while making some outrageously stupid shrieking sound. For about ten minutes.'

With apologies to Stan Winston. I also took a few liberties so he now rides as opposed to strides. The glock was a real challenge to me, as you can imagine (such a singularly unattractive instrument it is too). I'd sooner have drawn one of these.

My pot-bellied T.rex is also still too svelte by far. I seem to always do that with most things I draw, however inadvertently.

David Orr's Insterspecies Conflict Wishlist, Part I

Given my propensity for Saurian silliness, I felt that the absurdity of David Orr's wish list of 'Interspecies Conflict' on Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs was exactly the kind of thing for me to tackle. Being the utter slowcoach that I am, however, I was beaten to the challenge by the wonderful *patriatyrannus. Nevertheless, I received David's blessing that I may still 'take a crack at it', so here is part one of my damp squib of a result.

They are, clockwise:
~ 'Four strategically placed Incisivosaurus vs. Giraffatitan: Two words: beaver style.'
~ 'A hundred Mononykus vs. Carcharodontosaurus: They'd swarm the big brute and crawl into all sorts of uncomfortable places.'
~ 'Protoceratops vs. Leptoceratops. The most disgusting display of brutality and gore imaginable.'

I said that the nonsense felt like my kind of thing, but when I came to actually drawing it, I think I was rather traumatised (the excessively gentle creature that I am ). I'm not sure which distressed me more; the Giraffatitan or the ceratopsian pair. Incidentally, the latter is my favourite of this group, though not for all the blood, obviously.

Whilst drawing the Mononykus, I had to start numbering them after seventy to avoid losing count. Well, I thought it looked funny...

Among the replies to David's original blogpost was this comment from SVPOW:

'I hate to spoil your fun, but a single Giraffatitan individual could effortlessly destroy countless Incisivosaurus by sheer awesomeness alone.'

I would hardly be doing justice to my love of sauropods if I did not seize the chance to depict this too. Besides, I needed to exorcise the trauma of having drawn the poor Giraffatitan being gruesomely felled earlier... It seems to have garnered a deal of sympathy from a number of people too.

I wonder if the awesomeness might have manifested itself in a not dissimilar way to this...

Many of you have probably watched a movie called " Final Destination" *THankies to Linggoddess for the correction!* (Destino Final, in Spanish) in the one that after surviving of dying in an air accident, some teens go dying, from one in one, in indescribably gleaned and (at least in my opinion) amusing ways. Well, blood and original deaths apart, I liked the idea that the Death has a list with the people have to die so I drew this, I finished it in half hour, after the strokes of a bell of year end, it's my first drawing of the 2004, I wanted to begin the year with something, perhaps not so typical of my gallery. ^.~

The Lost List Project Flowers

So does everyone know about "The List" which has one hundred different topics? Well, I was in a rut and said, I will do this, but like so many things I just didn't. I did a page of "Flowers" and "Seeing Red" got a slayed bull in a ring. Fin. No more project for me. However, I was cleaning my room and found the sketch pad I dedicated to it and so I picked my favorite flower from the page no matter how cliche it really is.

PREVIOUSLY ON:

Brett smiled to himself as he wound the tape around the whip, just above the flap, chewing quietly on a slim stick of Big Red, the cinnamon smoking up his nostrils, Eminems insistence on losing himself drumming through the buds in his ears. He was glancing now and then at Santa as she shook her head at him and his prerace rituals...partly in irritation, partly in wonder. For one, just hours earlier he had driven away from the track in his truck, mumbling to himself about his romantic idiocy, only to discover that, no, Tommy wasnt particularly accommodating. Maxxxime still needed a rider. So Santa looked as baffled to him as he looked embarrassed to be there, gear in tow. He had coughed into his fist as he brushed past her, Just so you know, Maxxximes loss is going to be so nauseating I wont make the ninth race. She snorted at that, but she smiled afterward too. After all, for two, women could never help but stare at a man with game, he thought to himself. Men too. A person just couldnt help the reflex to check over their shoulders, to flick their eyes up to a man who didnt just wear the right clothes, but knew how to wear it and smile at him for it. Theyd glance and theyd tune into the music he listened to wondering just where it all came from. Asking themselves just what was that secret he possessed? How did he do it? Or rather...how did he get away with it?

Brett stood up and adjusted his flak jacket, staring at himself in the mirror. Staring at the weathered lines in his face, old scars from his hockey days fading away, new scars from his riding days bright and shining. Winning was the least complicated thing in all the world. Once youd done the necessary groundwork, made yourself a champion, it wasnt all that hard to fulfill expectations. At that point, it was losing that took real effort. He could waste all sorts of time and money and energy worrying about the coach standing there on the bench, or the scout hovering in the press corner, or the man who had threatened to kill him in the last game. You could be like Maxxxime: a giant titan of a horse who had been beaten to the wire by a latina grandmother carrying two cups of coffee at a morning workout last week because he kept worrying about the crowds, and the other horses, and the stallion that looked at him funny before he stepped onto the track, and the grandmother shuffling her way to seat. Yes, she honestly crossed the finish line in the tracks apron before Brett and Maxxxime made it there. Maxxxime would waste plenty of Tommy and Brett and Lucky Luc Charas time and money and energy before figuring it out. If they were lucky.

Brett smiled to himself again. Yep. That was the secret to losing. Worrying. But the secret to winning? That was the list.

His brother and father may have taught him hard work, but it was a patient team psychologist schooling him late into the night after a day at the NHL camp that had helped Brett make the leap from winning being hard work to winning being all in a days work. Use your list, kid was all he had said when he noticed the Flyers first round pick wiping the sweat on his hands onto his shorts, Stop squeezing your stick, stop glancing at Bob over there and worrying about what hes thinking. Whenever you have that puck you think about the fact that youre good enough to play at this level and then go for it. Use your list, kid.

And what the list was, aside from being the greatest secret passed on from generation of hockey players to generation of hockey players, was the result of a vast encyclopedic recall of every positive quote from the people whose opinions mattered most. It was a collection of positive experiences garnered from successful trials in self improvement. For Brett, it went something like this: Im proud of you, son. That game winning goal was yours. The University of North Dakota is pleased to offer you admission. Youll be drafted better than I was. Sure, Id love to have dinner with you. I love the way you feel when youre inside me. You ride this horse however you want, I trust you. Youre a hell of a jockey you know that? Santa, call my wife and show her your application and well get your citizenship sorted out. All Brett had to do was pull up his list and suddenly he could see the play happening from across the ice, he could sense the horse flying up on his outside, he could feel the girl walking up behind him to wrap her arms around his middle seconds before it actually happened. And when it did happen he had already predicted her disappointed pout over his lack of surprise.

I heard a rumour you wouldnt be here, came the french-laced voice from behind. She was pouting at him, but her eyes betrayed a little delight at finding him anyway.

Brett felt his face contort into a grin and marveled again that it was even there. Im not here, he answered as enigmatically as he could muster. He glanced at Santa a few lockers down and saw her snicker to herself.

Oh so you are here and not here, Therese teased, all at once?

At first, he took the sudden flicker in her eye to be a desperate embarrassed cerebral sprint at translation, but when she let out her little feminine laugh, free and loose and completely comprehending, he realized that she was not, in fact, trying to figure out what Schrodingers jockey was in reference to, oh on the contrary, the cruel cruel contrary, she was trying to figure out if he was intelligent enough to know what it was he himself had said. He slammed his locker shut and poked her in the arm, leaning in with a predatory but playful snerk, Whats this?

My god, I think Ive made a discovery! he teased, he reached out for her and she squealed, jumping back away from him. He chased the little minx for a few feet over piles of boots and helmets until at last getting a good grip around her waist and tossing her up into his arms. She squealed again and he heard the echo of a locker being slammed from across the room. It was probably Laurence again, but Brett ignored him and spun the girl in his arms around a few times, Therese Leclerc is a science nerd! And not just a science nerd. But a snooty one! He tapped her playfully on the nose as he placed her back delicately on the ground.

What is this snooty? she asked.

Its like your brothers nationalistic insistence he introduced sex to America, but with a prettier face and the topic being who actually invented the light bulb.

James Woodward, she replied without missing a beat.

And there we go, Brett sighed.

Well, I have made a discovery too, she announced in a soft voice, a little blush rising in her cheeks. It was enough for Brett to pull his eyes away from Santa who had been watching them and back to the girl who had grabbed a nearby race form from the bench where someone had circled the ninth race in red ink and waved it at him.

And what is that? Brett said, half-focused on her next reply.

Therese had placed a small hand on his chest and was tapping it gently over his heart. Santa was still smiling at them from behind.

Brett snapped his attention back to her. Say what?

He couldnt hear her reply because the room had just burst into a synchronized musical medley of masculine laughter and it was deafening. Solomon Rushton was the loudest of them all. Freddy Sanchez collapsed into a giggling fit and fell off of his chair with a thud. Ellie Campbell, the little she-devil, gave a loud whoop. As for the girl? Therese Leclercs blush intensified, but she seemed committed to her original statement. And Brett wasnt the only one who noticed this. Laurence, pulling on his boots, and grabbing his whip, was fuming.

He wasnt sure what he might have said, or how he might have looked before he left for the next race, but by the time he reached the saddling ring, Maxxxime was already looking as sheepish as he felt himself. The colt was just as large and red as the blood bay Stygian, but he had none of his perceptive reserve. Oh Max was perceptive, but he was a worrier. The horse was glancing here and there as Brett approached him. He was looking nervously at the little boy in the transformers tshirt sitting near the fence, plucking a tuft of cotton candy from his cone and shoving it into his mouth, pointing at the anxious red colt before sucking the sugar off of his fingertips. Maxxxime rolled his eyes. There was a groom laughing in a corner. And the black colt with the three white stockings was baring his teeth. What for? the colt seemed to wonder. His hind flanks were shivering like a deer seeing a dog in the yard. Brett should have told the colt, what the fuck is wrong with you, what do you care about them? But Brett was storming across the ring muttering to himself, A good man? A good man? What does she mean Im a good man? Whats a good man?

Lucky Luc Chara, raised an large Slovak eyebrow at him and took a deep drag of a cigarette. Oh shit, was all the trainer said through a haze of his own secondhand smoke. He pulled out another cigarette and lit it. Uplna jeba. The trainer held out an arm and gave the muttering jockey a leg up.

Brett was slipped his feet into the stirrups, hardly aware of the familiar curve of the saddle beneath him, of the coarse texture of the colts dark mane beneath his fingers. The horse quivered a little, nostrils wide and open, eyes large and white, looking as trapped and confused as a cow approaching a dip on his way to slaughter. A good man. She called me a good man, Max. Brett North is a good man. In front of the whole goddamned locker room. Either like...like Im safe enough and its safe enough to say that sort of thing in front of the whole goddamned locker room....or like she doesnt care that I know and everyone else in the whole goddamned locker room knows or...

Freddy Sanchez rode by on the stockinged black colt and taunted him.

Brett glared and lowered his voice. What is that, Max? Good Man A...friend? Am I some good guy she can lean on for emotional support? A guy I can trust to never fuck me moment? Am I...her not gay sensitive friend? Shit. Am I a friend? Already? In a week? In a week shes decided this about me? You know what? His voice suddenly rose again and the blood bay colt jerked his head up. Its her fucking brother. That shitty little french bastard said something.

The horse noticed the gate looming at the end of the track and shivered again as though he wasnt quite sure whether to go in or not, and what might happen if he did.

And why am I panicking about this, Max? Like I want to fuck her? Do I? I dont know!

A gate assistant approached them and reached forward to take the reins. Maxxxime planted his feet in the sand and would not budge.

Shes pretty. Theres no question. Im not questioning this, that much is clear. Its not up for debate, so dont even bother, Brett muttered to himself, And shes smart. And she likes me. I think. Im a good man, she says. Maxxxime raised his head higher and his butt lower. A few patrons of the track giggled at the screen in the middle of the field as the large blood red colt nearly sat down in the sand. Brett tilted his head back and mumbled to the sky. I do not want to fuck Laurence LeClercs older sister. There. I said it.

Brett North promptly bent over the left side of the sitting horse and vomited.

And a second later, he assured the assistant starter that he was, in fact, fine. The official shrugged it off as a jockey-related idiosyncrasy, called over another three men, and together they linked arms around Maxxxime and his rider and shoved them both headfirst into the gate. Horse and jockey stared at the doors. Im not fine, Brett muttered.

The moment the doors shrieked open, Maxxxime was, as Brett had come to expect, his usual contradiction. A large, powerful mountain of horseflesh, but all mouse in the form of a lion. He fell behind within the first few strides and bumbled sheepishly about, glancing at the rail as it streaked white along their inside, and the trees and the barns, and the workers lined along the backside colorful and confusing to the outside as though any one of them might jump out and yell Surprise! to the nervous two year old. And on the back of this titan with four left feet, Brett North was swearing. His mind was scrambling to remember something, a feeling he had had earlier, a concept in his mind that had existed before Therese Leclerc had wrapped her arms around his waist. What was it? What was the secret he had possessed? What was the word at the tip of his tongue? What was he missing?

Somewhere on the back, suddenly, there was focus. Bretts eyes dilated wildly, his fingers tightened around the reins. He was on the ice again, stirrups became blades, silks became sweaters, he could almost hear the clack of the sticks. Brett North is a good man. Brett North is a good man. Brett North is a good man. Hovering over the saddle, Brett threw a cross and Maxxximes ears tipped up, he swapped leads and there were people again where a moment before there had been none. They appeared like ghosts, shimmering and swaying in the heat rising above the curve of the track. But the blood bay colt with the wild markings didnt see them, wasnt really conscious of what he was doing, but Brett North was twisting his mouth this way, and squeezing him that way, and before either of them knew it, they werent last anymore. Come on, you fucking shire, push off the ground. Maxxxime was lowering himself, Brett felt them hit the stretch and the giant behemoth groaned underneath him like a jumbo boeing airline jet turning onto the runway and staring it down. Lift, lift, lift, Brett whispered to the horse as the speed increased, the pictures to either side of them blurring into colorful washes, his hands twitching the reins, imagining himself letting go, spreading his arms, in order to lift them both off of the ground and into the sky. There was a roar somewhere to their right. The wind ripped the water from their eyes. And then they were back on earth again.

Lucky Luc Chara took the reins from him and said, What the hell was that?

Brett North sighed, out of breath, She made the list.

The what? the Slovak barked in reply, but Brett North had just hit the ground cold, with a smile on his face, and from the look of things really, truly, wasnt going to be able to ride in race nine.

Sth a bit different... I decided to draw the hands from the "Schindler's List" poster, because I'm a big fan of the movie (and the book too).
The movie, telling about the great Oscar Schindler, has a very important meaning to me and I love it very much, that's why I needed to create something artistic, connected with it. This drawing is really special to me and I was doing my best to make it look as impressive, as the marvelous poster. I hope you like it.

I just watched Schindler's List, needless to say, it is easily one of the greatest movies to come in the past few decades. This is an acrylic painting of Ben Kingsley (Itzhak Stern) and Liam Neeson (Oskar Schindler) working to put together list of Jews to save by typing out a list of those "necessary" to the company. Excellent scene, i might do some more paintings like this.

Pegacorn Peak Nest (CURRENT ADOPTABLES!)

You look into the Pegacorn Peak nest and see eggs. The winged unicorn mare and horse stallion look at you closely. "Would you like to take one home and incubate it? You must take very good care of the foal." the winged unicorn says, with a knowing look in her eyes.

In a glade two elves meet, "I have missed you," Says Tariel, the girl, her lavender eyes batting quickly. Tariel and Atarn embraced each other, their love clear as they gazed at each other. "Are you ready to see something amazing?" Tariel whispered to the man. He looked down, his ebony eyes gleaming with interest.

"I am always ready to be amazed." he said, his eyes barely betraying the emotion.

"Pop your wings out." Giggled Tariel Nimara, flapping her own large, ebony wings. "Get ready to fly, wings are going to be important. You need to see this though. She took into the air. The elvish looking man swept back his cape and large black wings seemed to slide from under his cape. He took off, not even taking the time to stride first, he just seemed to leap into the air, forcing it to take him. He flew behind Tariel, her long violet hair whipping in the wind. He slid alongside her, feeling rather ungraceful.

"What are we going to see?" He asked, pretty sure it had something to do with some equine or another. It was sort of her thing to be obsessed with them. She smiled and sure enough, when they reached the top of the highest peak near them, he realized what it was.

"How did he even get up here?" Asked Atarn as he saw Double Lot, the Gygaxian steed laying over his mate Ohrelle's wings. His ears swiveled. Ohrelle, the uniquely dappled winged unicorn shifted her own ears in response and turned her gaze to Atarn and Tariel.

Tariel answered him "The nest is high, but it is accessible by hoof. You'd need four legs to get up here. Luckily, this guy's pretty good at getting around. Anyway, I do hear that Ohrelle is crafting some metal wings for him, but then, we've heard that.

"I am an expert crafter." Answered the winged unicorn mare who crafted a plethora of magical items for use on the island. "Those wings have been made functional, but they do not have what my mate needs. He needs speed. He will get it someday, I will perfect my horsewings. Until then, perhaps some other horses will like the convenience." The unicorn mare turned her head a little to regard the horse stallion that held down her silver wings. "He still runs up the mountain."

"I like the workout." Answered Double Lot, the Gygaxian racehorse's dice on his flanks lighting the area as his emotions flared. Tariel and Atarn felt suddenly as though they were watching when they shouldn't be when they realized Double Lot was talking about something else." Atarn cleared his throat and the two equines immediately turned their attention back to the humans.

"We have had seven eggs. The eggs have chosen that they will be available to those outside of TirRielle."

Tariel smiled wistfully. "You are so generous to the mundane world." The equines shifted and she knew why....the mundane world would lack magic, would their children miss that?

"Life is a web of magic." Answered Ohrelle. Double Lot nodded.

"Yeayeayea, those kids are ready to race. They want to explore stretch their wings and legs. They'll want to move in a way we never did. They have places to go, things to do. We'll never be without them, we have Ohrelle's magic to speak to them, and we'll never be lost without them. Tir'Rielle's magic will sustain them, Abathia has told us." Double Lot spoke fast and furious, he felt very strongly.

Tariel realized he didn't want his children to go, but it was the nature of racers, and the nature of flyers, to leave the nest early. The two of them seemed to know that. Most of Ohrelle's line seemed to leave for other stables, it must be the nature of their sort of unicorn.

Abathia, the unicorn goddess of the Island seemed to make herself known in Tariel's mind in that instant. The iridescent unicorn seemed to give some distinct, ancient impression. Horses, pairing with humans, bonding, leaving, flying, these were some of the things that had happened. This powerful bond hand bondmated these two unicorns, perhaps their progeny would experience that, whether with another equine or a bonded rider would be anyone's guess.

Abathia's knowing mind filled Tariel's and the young avatar of the Unicorn Goddess felt lost for a moment in the more Ancient Goddess's thoughts of the future. There was something important about the web of horses, the bloodline everywhere, tying together the magic that bound them, perhaps the fact that there would be more unicorns in the wold would be enough to ease the unicorn's need for magic in their environment. Perhaps it was more than that.

These baby winged unicorns will be coming from Tir'Rielle Island. Tir'Rielle is a magical island where my Stable in the Horseart Game resides. Tir'Rielle is an enchanted stable that dominates a tiny floating temperate forest island. It usually lies within a great mist, far in the unknown places, but it travels where it needs to in order to make its precious animals available to meet other equines. It is a magical island that shifts from place to place wherever it is needed.

The island is actually a series of volcanoes with its center an equine paradise. The border of the island is a thick layer of mist. Tir'Rielle is a thick forest with steaming warm hot pools, some waterfalls, crystals growing like plants from the ground and strange lights from fae that reside throughout the forest. The island's mistress is Tariel, a powerful shapeshifter and druidess. Normal animals talk, faeries flit all over and unicorns reside in the dales and forests. Tir'Rielle is guarded by the flying creatures, called the Skyguard and the landbound guardians who serve in many capacities.

While in Tir'Rielle animals do not suffer illness. They cannot die from old age or the effects thereof. Old horses feel very young and everything is renewed and sustained by magic. The magic also makes food and drink relatively optional (basically, nothing can starve). Pure manavores (creatures that can sustain completely off of magic) no longer have to eat while in Tir'Rielle). Tir'Rielle also offers mundane and magical healings to sick and wounded animals. Note *pegacorna2 if you or a character is in need of healing.

Tariel Nimara will resolve any adoptions and contact *pegacorna2 to get ahold of her.

This is my most current painting. It took meabout 2 weeks to do. It is in acrylic on illustration board. I was using a new technique to do it. Its a different way to start the painting. That made it very interesting. I hope that you guys enjoy it!
