Don't usually submit photos, but I'm rather fond of this one. Wasn't taken with a zoom or anything, I was standing right in front of her when I snapped it.

First time mother, Amy. Her baby (Sir Ed) is coming on a year old now. She will hopefully be breeding with her mate, Ishah, again soon once Sir Ed is old enough to go to another zoo as part of the international breeding program.

She's also a Styan's Red Panda, despite having a very pale face making her seem more like a Western Red Panda.

The red panda (Ailurus fulgens, or shining-cat), is a small arboreal mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. Slightly larger than a domestic cat, it has reddish-brown fur, a long, shaggy tail, and a waddling gait due to its shorter front legs. It feeds mainly on bamboo, but is omnivorous and may also eat eggs, birds, insects, and small mammals. It is a solitary animal, mainly active from dusk to dawn, and is largely sedentary during the day.

The red panda has been classified as Vulnerable by IUCN because its population is estimated at fewer than 10,000 mature individuals. Although red pandas are protected by national laws in their range countries, their numbers in the wild continue to decline mainly due to habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and inbreeding depression.

I've never been able to get a good shot of this guy. Normally he's all curled up in his tree, nose all tucked down. But, lucky for me, (Timing is all) handlers were in his small enclosure this time I was at the zoo. They were running about, leaping from tree branch to tree branch, and I caught this one just in the middle of extending for the jump.

The red panda, Ailurus fulgens, and the giant panda, Ailuropoda melanoleuca. The red panda, also known as lesser panda and cat bear, is found at high elevations in the Himalayas and the mountains of W China and N Myanmar. It resembles a raccoon but has a longer body and tail and a more rounded head. It is about 3.5 ft (105 cm) in total length and weighs about 12 lb (5.5 kg). The very thick fur is rust color to deep chestnut, with black on the under parts, limbs, and ears; there are dark eye patches on the white face. The red panda spends much of its time in trees but feeds on the ground, eating primarily bamboo leaves but also fruit, roots, and other plant matter. The giant panda superficially resembles a bear. The body is chiefly white, and the limbs are brownish black, with the dark color extending up over the shoulder. The ears and eye patches are black. Adults weigh from 200 to 300 lb (90-140 kg) and are from 4.5 to 5 ft (140-150 cm) long with a 5-in. (13-cm) tail. Giant pandas live in restricted areas of the high mountain bamboo forests of central China; their diet consists almost entirely of bamboo shoots. Rare in the wild, they breed poorly in captivity. Giant pandas are protected by law in China. Pandas are classified in the phylum Chordata , subphylum Vertebrata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora, family Procyonidae.

OK - so this isn't a good shot - but I just loved the little look on his face .. Plus - I love these guys - they have got to be one of my favourites!! I wish I could see one in the wild ...
I was trying to come up with a more interesting title - but my creative mind had abandoned me.

Red Panda "Shining Cat" (has many other names such as Bear Cat, Fire Cat and Cloud Bear)
Ailurus fulgens
- The Red Panda is native to the Himalayas in India and Nepal and southern China
- Also known as the Wah because of its distinctive cry
- Nocturnal
- Mostly a herbivore
- Semi-retractile claws and, like the Giant Panda, has a "false thumb" which is really an extension of the wrist bone
- Thick fur on the soles of the feet offers protection from cold and hides scent glands
- They are very heat sensitive with an optimal “well-being” temperature between 17 and 25°C., and cannot tolerate temperatures over 25 °C at all (which is interesting becuase the place where I took it is quite hot and reaches a tops of 30 or more in summer ...)

I have to say, I only studied history of art once last year, and the teacher skipped almost the whole year, so we only had like... five classes? I know nothing about art trends or artists, well, maybe a few, but I really don't care much, I just draw.

I had the chance to meet art nouveau when I traveled to Spain when I was 14, and got stunned by Gaudí's architecture, but really, that was an awesome experience.
And now these girls from #StudioXIII introduce me this guy Alphonse Mucha, his art is just fantastic. Then I continued searching on wikipedia about art nouveau and it is really something, I like it a lot.

Well, this is for 's art nouveau artbook contest. I had to give a try to Mucha's style, as I liked it so much.
Wish me luck, and expect more drawings influenced by art nouveau from me : B

Tengo que decir que sólo estudié historia del arte una vez el año pasado, y la profesora faltó casi todo el año, así que terminamos teniendo como cinco clases? No sé nada sobre corrientes artísticas o artistas, bueno, tal vez algunos, pero realmente no me importa mucho, sólo dibujo.

Tuve la oportunidad de conocer el modernismo (art nouveau) cuando viajé a España a los 14, y quedé asombrada por la arquitectura de Gaudí, pero realmente, fue una excelente experiencia.
Y ahora estas chicas de #StudioXIII me presentan a este tipo Alphonse Mucha, sus obras son fantásticas. Entonces seguí investigando acerca de modernismo en wikipedia y realmente está bueno, me gusta mucho.

Bueno, esto es para el concurso de artbook de art nouveau de . Sentí que tenía que probar el estilo de Mucha, tal que me gustó tanto.
Deséenme suerte, y esperen más dibujos influenciados por el modernismo de mi parte : B}

Kung Fu RED Panda

EDIT: I'm not sure if it's my labtop or what, but on DA she looks brown and she's supposed to be red. x_x What do you guys see?

Me and my friends are making Kung Fu Panda characters cause there was a showing at the school a while back. ^___^ Mine's a red panda (a REAL red panda, not that crack-panda Shifu is...) named Huo Mao. It literally means "Fire Cat" in Chinese.

She's young, cocky and arrogant and thinks she's all that. And she is, because she knows all sorts of kung fu and can kick most anybody's butt. Anyone except the Furious Five. ;D So it's her life's goal to eventually beat them.

She needs a new hobby.

the symbol on her eyepatch, incase you were wondering, means "red".

was working out a new sort of persona for myself? not sure.. but red pandas kick ass.. sooo hey, why not? ..i don't know if they have anything to do with bamboo.. originally it was gonna be a normal panda.. then i got this idea while coloring.. so yeah.

i put it under "anthro" cuz that's what it looks like..kinda? but they might be fake ears and face paint... >_> if she is anthro then i forgot the tail... ahaha.....

HAPPY RED PANDA IS HAPPY. The assignment was to make an quadruped do an unnatural walk, so I made him skip. =3 There's just one jitter on the head that I wish I could have fixed, though.
