first time doing a strange new technique, decided to step
out of the box and it wasn't a complete disaster!!
sure! there a lot of things I want to change and
fix but overall I am quite satisfied with this picture :3
probably should have chose a different background to
go with Pierce since this clashes a bit, but hell I still
find it acceptable!

started out as a dirt sketch in my sketchbook, in which I
scanned in my paint program cleaned it up a bit and put some flat colors down to give it a bit of life. But then I found and
embraced the gradient tool *__*
makes shading so much easier and more awesome!! <333
soo yeah went a little crazy with it all.

FULL VIEW PLEASE!

Made following *lindelokse's Apophysis 2D Bloom Tutorial.
All I can say is: ALL HAIL MASTER SCALE.
As I recently (ehm, yesterday) discovered that there's this nice feature called master scale, now I can try 3D Bloom tutorial following Style 2. And I'll do it, oh yeah.

However, this has nothing to do with master scale or whatsoever.
Apophysis 7x.15 and GIMP. I put a gradient dark brown/black and duplicated the png with Soft light mixing at 50%.

The making of Rust

Rust sets in...the process involved

Created using The Gimp with various stock images.
Could also be done in other packages like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro

Going from left to right.

1) The original stock image of the face.

2) Added the resized clock image to the eye.
This was pasted into a new layer and position and resized so it roughly fitted over the original images eye.
A layer mask as added and any part of the clock not required were removed.
Mask also used to blend in the edges of the clock to the original image.
The layer mode was set to normal and opacity adjusted to around 55% for the desired effect.

3) Re-added the eye's hilights
The eye now looked a bit flat so selected the hilight refelects in the eye from the original layer using the freehand select.
These were pasted into a new layer above the clock layer, mode overlay, opacity 100%
This added the sparkle back to the eye.

4) Added rust texture and masked out areas I didn't want it to effect.
Pasted the rust texture into a new layer (overlay mode at 100% opacity) .
Added a layer mask and blacked out the sections around the eye, eyebrow, background and hair.

5) Applied toning and colour correction to produce the final result.
Added a new layer on top (hue mode at 100% opacity)
Filled this layer with a light to dark brown gradient in bi-linear mode.
This gave the image an overall metal/ rusty colouring.

Oh. My. Gosh. This has taken me FOREVER. About 5 days in total.
This is, officially, my first real piece of work with my new tablet that I received for my birthday. The thing is amazing, I love it.

As for this drawing...I scanned an old sketch that I thought had some potential. Then began my grueling first ever process of lineart. I tell you what, the lineart was the most frustrating, but that may be because the tablet was new to me and I had no idea what I was doing in Photoshop.
The coloring process was long, but a bit more enjoyable. I have really learned to love the gradient tool.
As you can see, there is a major lack of a background...I got lazy, so I tried to make a simple one, but it couldn't happen because of an error I made when creating layers for the picture. So, no background. (I still have a lot to learn about creating them.)

Buuuut, at least I'm proud of it....I think digital art will be a bit more easier now.

About the character, Naira: she is an Absol, my main character for a fanfiction I was developing called Rust Colored Snow. The story is on hold right now, but I may continue it some day....

For those of you who have read this far, I commend you and give you a chocolate bar. I appreciate it.

World of Rust and Blood

This was a VERY simple piece in terms of digital manipulation. The original drawing was done with a mechanical pencil on sketchbook paper. Then I smudged a few places to give it depth. Then after scanning the drawing I cleaned up any residual black lines left by the scanner, and I added a gradient map on top. It took me a while to get the gradient right, because I had to make it negative, so that the parts that glowed were the lines.

This is actually a picture from a comic I'm currently writing. You might be familiar with the name "Shattered Sanity", but it's a brand new story with an older name. Hopefully you enjoy this little sneak peak. :3

Mouth and Clay - Peak

This is my favorite mouth of all time. Everytime I repeat the installation I try and make another like this, (it's hard using your lips as a tool!) but I have yet to replicate this.

Clay slip is "spit" onto the wall by the mouth of the artist. The clay is naturally a white color; iron oxide (rust) is added to the mixture to color the clay in a gradient.

Parameters:
• The installation will always be 60" tall, the mouth height of the artist.
• The installation is never permanent and is washed away easily with simple water.
• It can exist in multiple locations at once.
• Installation contains my saliva.

This is another shot from that day. I decided not to just desaturate it. I got some fantastic IR type filters as well as a few others and now as *Goodbye-kitty975 said the photo seems to "pop" now. I'm pretty proud. I'd love to know what you think.

I Hope this doesn't re-bog your galleries but I messed up the description by forgetting a colon after mentioning *Goodbye-kitty975 and thus the link didn't work, I've fixed that now.

**EDIT**
So I was playing around with borders and I was able to add a border that didn't emphasize the fact that i judged the horizon based upon the graffiti and not the lines of the train itself. Thank you gradient tool.

Remember yesterday when I wrote that panicked journal entry stating I was gonna slash my wrists with a rusted can if I couldn't figure out Illustrator?! Behold my first creation in Adobe Illustrator!!!

Here is the result of listening to 3 days of tutorials. It took me about 31/2 hrs when it would have taken me 1 in Photoshop.

But I stuck with it, Dammit!

There are still things I don't understand. Can you not add gradients to stokes? What about gradual masks that are gradients? I'm still working on it!!

Last Thursday, as I sat a moment to chat with my supervisor, I spotted a stray bit of paper on the desk before me--good, thick stuff with a matte finish. So I dug my brush pen out of my pocket and started the center of this drawing.

I finished the thing that vaguely resembles a traffic signal before I drove home. Tonight, I drew the other thing on the left. Then I added a roman-red gradient because that color is looking snazzy to me as of late (maybe warm seasons breed warm colors?).

I wish I had something more on my mind--some narrative to unfold from within the image, but I don't.

I've felt like a non-practicing artist for awhile. If you look closely, this neglect of practice manifests itself in the slow, slightly bleeding lines on the paper.

Poster Design - Poets of the Fall

Poster Design Class - Assignment #1
~~ Favorite Band/Artist (Black and White Only) ~~

~~ PROCESS ~~
1. Sketch (referencing actual gas mask and material from "Carnival of Rust" music video

2. Scan into Photoshop and determine darks and lights and cropping.

3. Measure bleed and border on 22x30 illustration board.

4. Print Photoshop rough copy and take to projector room. Project image onto 22x30, measured paper.

5. Begin media application:
--- Ink pens--crosshatch design for gas mask and lantern, basic outlines for other parts.
--- Black and White Gouache applied for the gate, eye outlines of the mask, and lollipop. Lighter shades for the ferris wheel with flicks of the brush for faded lights. Also used for shading inside the crosshatching and for hard outlines for the lantern, mask, and tickets.
--- Charcoal for the sky, leads down through the piece to make a dark to light gradient.
--- 20-40 hours in total for the media application.

6. Spray fix so charcoal doesn't smear and let dry so gouache doesn't run.

7. Scanned into Photoshop in 4 consecutive pieces--put together in Photoshop as well.

8. Added text in Photoshop - Text is called "Downcome" - Downloaded from dafont.com

9. Printed onto tabloid size (11x17) paper - trimmed off white edges.

10. Turned in digital print out, original piece, and digital files.

Final Notes: I'm really happy with how this turned out. Sort of gritty and oily. I think it represents POTF well Sorry for the watermark: art theft is a bitch.

Three Flavours of Fox

I now make three kinds of Red fox tails

The classic RED fox (in the middle) made from a very deep rust red fur, the more realistic Red Fox (left) made from a tan fur and then airbrushed with red gradients, and the Silver phase Red Fox (right) which is simple black and white.

I'll eventually phase out the middle tail since the fur to make it actually discontinued and long grey fur of the quality needed basically doesn't exist so no grey or cross fox tails will be forthcoming.

But FENNEC fox.. hmm well now that's a possibility ;D

You can buy these tails in my online store. I just restocked for Christmas! Matching ears should be finished in a couple weeks. But that's probably it until March ^^

but then i learned something: i'm not a digital painter; i just don't have it in me. so from now on, if i feel i can't do a drawing justice, i'll upload it as a lineart. that way anyone who wants to colour it can do so themselves. they can even fix the up the lineart, i don't care, it's all uphill from here.}

ON TO THE EXPLANATION:
This was basically inspired by the Ape Escape/MGS crossover, Mesal Gear Solid (a minigame in AE3). Since MGS is owned by Konami, i'm hoping maybe someday the AE creators might collaborate with them again someday and maybe make a Silent Hill/Ape Escape crossover :3

i mean yeah, it's not likely, although it has apparently been mentioned to the AE creators, the sad part being that i wasn't the only person to think of this.
so naturally, HERE'S MY APE ESCAPE + SILENT HILL CROSSOVER: SARUMID HEAD!!! (i think "saru" means "ape" in japanese, they use it in AE a lot)

p.s. this picture contains more gradients than the rest of dA put together.

A planet not unlike Mars, Baelos has more than just large amounts of iron and iron oxide. It also has sulfur, and iron sulfide & Pyrite in the soil. Some areas have a reddish hue, where others may range frown a dull brown to a sparkling golden. Its mass allows it a thin atmosphere composed of trace gasses, but even if it were breathable, the smell of the sulfur would be near intolerable.

(forgive me if the science of it does not make sense. i just felt like adding a more detailed description and am working with what limited geology and chemistry knowledge i have, lol)

Damn Mass Effect 2, its making me have ideas and want to make planets.... (i have said multiple times at this point i was taking a break with the planet stock, but i make no promises while playing mass effect lol) But anyhow. i reworked my lighting and shadow gradient even better, it looks a bit more realistic i think now. Still cant manage realistic clouds... but ill be working on that soon enough knowing me. (also, I think the new gray background, maintains the space feel and usability as opposed to the white or black backgrounds)

For Texture Your World Contest

I made these textures using my old paper texture as a base. I started off with it because I love the aesthetic of aged paper and other vintage things like that, so it represents my interest in history and times long past. Then I took photos of textures around my house and university--my house to represent my present, and my university to represent a link to my future. I used layer blending modes and color gradients to get the final effect that you see here.

I wanted it to look like he's in the bebop....lounge?....well where the two yellow sofas?...couch? are located...
I wanted to add the stairs above his head also.... but its kinda hard to do so I just left that out...and I'm not really good at doing backgrounds...

I played alot with Levels and Gradients in photoshop to get that Old-Rusting effect of the wall...

well...lemme know what u think.... does he look like he's inside that area of the ship?

A *much* better version of Skulls Go Eco. Or I like this better. I made some texture on the skulls (they looked WAAAY too plain) and added some gradients. And changed the color of course.

I really like this photos. Not only was it just a beautiful day for swimming, but was also the perfect day for photos.

I have to say, Australia has to have some of the most beautiful beaches. This was taken at Woodman's Point, WA, 32 degrees (hot, but still nicer than usual).

I love this shot, the sky with its gradient (I didn't not photoshop that!) and the colors and textures on the jetty are just beautiful. And the water, the water is always a clear blue and green which is great for swimming, and taking photos.

I hope you like this photo as much as I do <3

Every time I thought to myself, "Damn it! It's going to take me forever to get back to this point," when I lost on a boss battle, and then got the little, "I won't give up!" Button, I'd feel that wave of joy sweep over me.

Anyway, I'm pretty proud when it comes to this one. First of all, I love how the rust color worked out with the gradient of the gold. It actually really pulls the piece together in my opinion. I like how that turned out. ^_^ Ah. And as you can see, I didn't use my signeture Perler Chain for the chain, but you can bet I tried! It would've been too bulky and it would've looked silly unfortunately. But in it's place, I used gold colored rings which, once again in my opinion, really seemed to pull the piece together as well.

But it's not all about my opinion! I wanna hear yours. ^_^ Oh, and here's a link to the Pixel Art I used [link] I wanna see someone make Way To The Dawn, or the Ultima Blade, seeing as I won't be getting around to it any time soon. The Etsy is picking back up again. There actually might be an 200 point prize if you can impress me with their Perler Keyblade prowess. <.<

I didn't do too much to this image. I changed the color tones in it to give it a more "blue vintage" look. I added a blended gradient and pattern in the sky and cropped it. Otherwise, it's still just as pretty as the stock photo.

Hand crochet with love. Made from a tawny/persimmon/rust colored acyclic yarn. Curved ears ad a touch or realism along with dry-brushed gradients on the inner and outer sides. The back sports black tips and the inner ear had a touch of white.

School Assignment: Draw a vector of a famous person using only the pen tool and solid colors. No gradients permitted.

The pretty much finished product of the WIP I posted a few days ago. I'm sure I'll find some issues with it now that its posted online. Like always. But, this is pretty much my first time working in Illustrator and with vectors. I kinda like them, but they're tedious.

I want critique on this piece. Serious, helpful critique. None of this destructive crap that some people put. If I can't learn from your critique, you're not critiquing appropriately.

A random bolt doodle! That I have been working on between other projects (which have been taking up most of my concentration XD) Also because I wanted to try to do something completely digitally again. It turned out good! I am proud. There were like a million gradients involved.

Apparently I like me some iron-rust colored bolt. There's a couple instances of them in my gallery because they're always so pretty *___* This one doesn't really have a name but we can call him (or her, idek) Rusty if you like. XD

Some random notices!

-I rearranged the folders in my gallery...all of the animal species are now in one folder and split up into subfolders. Sketchdumps are also in their own folder now so they won't clutter up the 'featured'/main section as much.

Cutlery Polish in Japanese is Tonoko Iro, one of the Traditional Colors of Japan.

I have some silver, and the cream-color Tonoko Iro, along with some of what I thought could be colors of tarnish or rust.

Anyway, my entry for Team Verity of PokePlatform's Halloween contest: Rosaline as the big bad wolf. Hellyeah >:U Traditionally sketched and inked, scanned then colored/shaded/gradient[ed?] in Photochop.

I had a lot of fun with this one, dahurr. And with Sarah the Gabite registered in the contest as Red Riding Hood [[link] featured here!], the set-up couldn't have been more perfect. :'D Yeah if you couldn't tell that's her hand sticking out of Rosa's stomach like a coathook.

I know there are going to be way better entries, but it's worth a try! I had a good time doing this either way and it gave me a reason to shake the rust off my inking skills. Which still aren't top-knotch but I'm working on it. :v

After my Mom made her Beaded Groboto Art, I left the Bot open in Groboto, then spent a good 30mins warping it into this, only Using Paintshop to convert the file from a tiff to a jpeg.

Everything else was done in Groboto.

This is to show you that you can make stuff in Groboto, with ease, then if you spend a lil' bit more time playing around, you can create even more advanced stuff.

I removed the Starry BG, and used Layered Fog, which allowed me to keep the Gradient BG, Changed the Eclipsid Primitive to the Beveled Box, also changing the Gradient and adding a texture, while also messing with several of the sliders, changing the orbit, and adding local lights.
