I was sitting around at Swancon, chatting with friends, and the idea of Steampunk Portal came up. ...and we got thinking, how on earth would you make portals in the early industrial era? Oh crap, you'd have to *dig* them, wouldn't you? With your steam-powered pick.

And well, Portal, being made by Valve, available on Steam? It just kind of needed to be done.

By the way, I've finished Portal 2, but please refrain from spoilers in the comments as others may not yet have done so.

I just love the Companion Cube! So much so that I had to create the ultimate Cube-Love necklace, and here it is!

The Companion Cube is a silvery black iron oxide and antique silver in colour with hints of bright metallic pink. Instead of using the standard cube shape, I decided to have a little fun and show my love for the cube by cutting it into a heart shape and texturizing/antiquing it a little bit for a fully Industrial touch.

It is completely three dimensional and detailed on the front, and just flat on the back.

Completely hand-sculpted from polymer clay.

Weighted Companion Heart

This is the 112th piece in my Industrial Heart collection, entitled, Weighted Companion Heart.

Like most of my Industrial Hearts, this piece starts with an anatomically correct human heart made from polymer clay - the base. With all of the components of a real human heart, it has also been made to look metallic and Industrial with its panelling and rivets. Gears, metal findings, and other various things are also added.

The entire piece is about 1 1/2" tall and is antiqued with black acrylics and then finished with a satin glaze for a slight metal sheen. It has a loop in the top that is attached to a keyring style jumpring and is strung on an 18" silver tone link chain with lobster clasp.

This particular heart was very inspired by the Weighted Companion Cube in the videogame, Portal. This is my own rendition - sort of an Industrial take on the cube. It's got a bright metallic pink heart as the focal point in the front!

I actually made this heart last year for FanExpo. Daniel Proulx of *CatherinetteRings came over to my booth and bought it for his lady. So they own the original. But I forgot to take pictures before it sold, so I re-made it recently.

I've been too busy/lazy (take your pick) to actually draw anything lately, so here's a Companion Cube wearing a Top Hat.

Reminds me of that Steampunk Companion Cube I saw some time ago.

Man, if I remembered I had a companion cube, Valentine's Day wouldn't have been as lonely. (Though it sure would have been a lot more pathetic!)

-Taken with my Nintendo 3DS. Because the camera quality on that thing is better than my phone!

EDIT: WOW, all I did was take a picture of a companion cube wearing a top hat and suddenly I get a flood of favorites!
All my most popular things seem to be stuff I put nearly no effort into.
Though to be fair, it is pretty cool, isn't it? I mean... Companion Cube... Top Hat... It just WORKS.

I have so much to say about these two. Cat and Carter are their names, and they are (in my eyes) famous in the convention world for their amazing costumes. Carter is well-known for his Medieval Batman costume (seen here on Grant Imahara's Twitter page: [link]), with Cat accompanying him as Catwoman. They've also been seen in some awesome steampunk costumes, and many others I just don't know about.

They were at DragonCon this year (along with Grant Imahara) and took part in Cardboard Con, an informal gathering of cardboard cosplayers.

These two were adorable and incredibly kind. My friend Rachel and I talked with them for a while, and during that time we saw just what kind of crap Cat (the Cake) has to put up with.

A tip for you convention n0obs:
If you see a Cake cosplayer, DO NOT TELL THEM THE CAKE IS A LIE. You are not the first to say it. You are not impressing anyone. And I will tell you to shove off if I see you say it to Cat.

Cube, Onceler and gears

Dear lord. I don't think I've ever put so much time into a piece before. I've been working on this for 2 days. About 2 hours yesterday, and another (yikes!) 5 hours, roughly, today.
Still not completely happy with it, but still happy.

Well...as I say this are just photos from a convention. So I looking a little bit stressed and this was the first time my eyes don't like my contact lenses...stupid!!!

Okay, so...
This picture was a serious project.
*AubreyWattson helped out with the pose concepts, and *I-Am-CHILD did the lineart for me, and I did the original sketches, colors, and finishing parts.
SO.

I went a little risky on this and had fun with the light source (which is a fancy trick I didn't know about in photoshop) and made the disco ball into a gleaming beacon of.. fabulousness.

Before was kinda crappy, I admit xD; I was tired that day, and my sleep scedual was fucked in the head. But now I fall asleep at 1 and wake up at 8, so it's all good ^^

But you guys should see my vanity xD; I use it like a paint studio, and it's got all my hand-sewn stuff on it, and whatever hints that I'm a geek xD like my steampunk hat, about like 20 drawing manga books, some manga and all this companion cubes I have no idea what to do with....It's a mess, but... a mess that's intresting and not so much as messy as just.. ya know, crammed.

anyways me and ~ShadowMoss did a scribble dump a while back

I drew all of the cores, steampunk princess, POTaTOS, the butt, the taco and the joker kissing bane (two rpers came in and were adorable)
