Emergency Services DJs Electrique, Figure Of Wax + Ginger Brown, Elements' J Devious, Live + Direct From Wolverhampton come DJ Vital + Peter & The Wolf plus some more guests thrown in there too if you're lucky! The place is Mood Basement, Buxton, Derbyshire this Saturday 29th October. The night is Hip-Hop Halloween so it's fancy dress! All the North-West people I'm expecting to see you there, and if you stop by this page and you're in UK - be a bit spontaneous and rock on up here!

Wanna Hear My New Joke?
I'm getting my shit together! Bumped into my old neighbour Tim today, to cut a long story short he asked what I was up to - I replied working a shitty job but making beats as a hobby which I want to start taking seriously. So he told me to swing by his place (his studio to be precise)... cos you see the bit I didnt mention is that Tim is Olive who made that tune "You're Not Alone" time ago which High Contrast recentley remixed! Oh and he was the keyboardist for Simply Red for 5 albums. Boosh!
MySpace.com
If you have a personal account on MySpace.com you're sick and wrong. However it seems their music pages actually pay host to some sweet independant artists. Check it out starting here: [link]
the night was a success, it's been busier but there were enough people for a really sweet atmosphere as 5 DJs [including peter and adam from wolverhampton] ripped it up alongside 2 drummers / percussionists [nate and tommy] and greg the sax player... hopefully there's some photos floating around so i'll work on getting those up. think it's led to an album project and definately a lot more nights to come alongside our wolverhampton comrades!
don't pay builders til they've finished the work
they've been paid. but there's still some work to do at the flat. we're ready to move in. but can't. why i oughta! soon as we're in i'll get some photos up of that too.

saw the beastie boys last night!

me and caz were the some of the first people to get there - no queues - all goodness - then taz met us [from london] and jim [from leeds] - good effort lads! - anyways - after a bit of waiting it all paid off when we were stood on the barrier panels at the very front.

we had no idea who was supporting - so around 7.30 a DJ walks on stage - grabs the mic and screams "who's ready for talib kweli?!" - only one of my favourite emcees like ever! so there i am front row [second if i'm perfectly honest] watching talib kweli as a surprise with ... THE MOST DEAD AUDIENCE EVER. kweli was giving it his all spitting some real concious hip-hop for these people but they couldn't give a shit - they just wanted to see the beasties thinking check it out was their first single. so after an amazing set / shit crowd talib left not looking too chuffed.

quote from some kid behind me: well, that was shit - that's all rap is though isn't it?

WHAT?!?! YOU STUPID FUCKING KERRANG! WATCHING FUCKWITS! YOU HAVE COME TO SEE SOME OF THE GREATEST PIONEERS IN HIP-HOP AND THEN GO SAY ALL "RAP" MUSIC IS THE SAME?

yes i was quite riled.

moving on *deep breathes* the lights dropped - on came the b-boys making with the freak freak - and a whole army of 12 year olds and more kerrang! viewers decided it'd be a good idea to start a huge mosh-pit leading to the first ten rows of people FALLING OVER. good move kiddos! on top of that - you couldn't actually breathe / control your own body - which sucked far too much. i was strangled due to some silly fuck grabbing my hoodie so hard it rammed into my neck [for which he received in return a light beating ] but yeh it was too much and pretty lame so we moved back a few rows and enjoyed one of the best gigs i've ever been to if not the best.

check it out on radio 1's website: [link]

p.s - forgot to mention that when we got there - some dude was filming requests for the beastie boys to be used in the show / dvd / online / etc - so he asked me what i wanted [for q-tip from a tribe called quest come down and perform "get it together" with them] and sure enough halfway through the show on the huge screens [during set change] there's me and caz technically on stage with the beastie boys! haha suckers! booyah!

p.p.s - i was wearing my ES cap - represent y'all! hahaha!

talib kweli - "peace of mind"
dunno when it's gonna be released - but it's fantastic thoughtfull hip-hop

bloc party - "banquet"
imagine morrissey singing over a clash song? well similiar sound...
second decent british band in far too long [first being million dead]

daedelus - "quiet now"
weird twisted ambient beats / hip-hop... v. original and v. good

chingy - "one call away"
can't stand this dude - but the beat is fantastic... shame he claimed it

little brother - "the getup"
gonna be huge - production by 9th wonder - uses the same programme i do!
makes me feel like what i make could actually become something big...

jaylib - "starz"
had this for ages and still love it - phat head nodding beat / sweet lyrics...

atmosphere - "trying to find a balance"
this song was built for crowds / gigs ... need to see these asap. brilliant hip-hop act signed to geffen - heavy as fuck.

brother ali - "bitchslap"
same producer from atmosphere - kind of tune that makes you want to buy a GMC SUV with 26" rims and about 20 subs to blast it out of...

common - "i used to love h.e.r"
one of the best stories ever - crazy twist at the end...

craig mack - "flava in ya ear [remix]"
both the remix feat. biggie, busta, ll, rampage, everyone... and the original of this are / is one of the greatest hip-hop records ever made...

dj jazzy jeff feat. slum village - "r u ready?"
my head will be nodding throughout summer because of this tune...

janet jackson feat. q-tip - "got til it's gone"
you all remember this. you all love this.

dj vadim feat. slug - "edie brikell"
one of the nicest tunes i have ever heard... sure it's an old steely dan sample [sounds just like "dirty work" by them] - plus slug on vocals is the dude from atmosphere...

jimi hendrix - "easy rider"
makes you want to play air guitar in your room... or play to a 1970s woodstock crowd... mostly the latter

million dead - "breaking the back"
rock! lol. but yeh that's just what is. good british rock. fucking a me ode.

phoenix - "too young"
heard this years ago - forgot about it. watched lost in translation and it was on there. happy / summery / random house party in tokyo-y goodness.

pretty girls make graves - "sad girls"
really wish i would've seen these a while ago [nearly bought tickets] will definately have to check them out next time they're hear. awesome music - singing slightly reminds me of kinickie if anyone remembers them? [it's not a good thing] but it is a lot better and i still like it...

propaghandi - "back to the motorleague"
im picky about punk. but what i like i love. this is just phatty goodness. aggressive, yet melodic, and just all round wicked.

reuben - "let's stop hanging out"
another awesome british band - not had an album out as far as i know, but every tune i've heard makes me want to see them more...

suicidal tendencies - "get sick"
saw this on a skating video years ago, loved it - checked out the rest of their stuff and can't find any faults...

the clash - "the guns of brixton"
ok so i heard cypress hill's "what's your number" first - but as i told a certain mr. feral to d/l it as he hadn't heard it - he told me to get this first - and we were both like whoa... what a spooky coincidence!

the doors - "five to one"
sampled by jay-z for "takeover" - but this is just amazing as it's own song, got one of the best solos ive heard in it and managed to get me to fill up my playlist with the rest of their songs... all good.

so many more fantastic songs... question is though... what are yours?

holy fuck, heres something that don't happen daily ..

we ( feral and I ) were a-cruisin at this ungodly hour, right .. when this silly move of his ends him up with no lights on right in front of a po-litzy waggon ( oopsee ) so as could only be expected of moi ( the cowardly bastard i am ) i blasted off the other way, fledding the scene, nice and quick like. then as you might expect the 5-0 drive past me, switching their lights and woozers on and all that malenky hoo-hah, i steps down on the clutch and killed t'ode lights to nip up my drive, and the rozz-mobile carrys on up the road until they can turn round. so i'm in my "lounge" with all the lights off - only then to have feral's co-hort call me up to tell me the news of said rozz-mobile accelerating back-ways down the hill and right into a tree oh dear. "his brake cable snapped" ye gods. poor dear radios for backup, like .. and these other autos pull up sharpways afterwards. they invited feral into their car and they all had a chuckle about this fellow and his car-mishaps. so nerves back down and still again i go straight to bed with a very big grin on my face.

all this on april fools day ^_^ x
