A quick summary of recent events, because if I take too long I'll get bored.

I went to Monsters of Rock in July. It was completely worth the $135 ticket. I was in the standing area, at one point I even leaned on the barricade. Didn't go that close often, though, it's really hard on the ears. And it feels like the bass is kicking you.

Then, Newfoundland. That was fun. Not a lot in the way of interesting stories, so I'll just mention that my cousing is five and he weighs 110 pounds. I'm eighteen and I weigh about 125. We expect that he'll be playing college football when he's in grade three.

Then, for a long time, nothing happened.

Then, I started college, taking pre-journalism. Enjoying it, but that three-hour break in between my classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is insane. I may have to develop an alternate personality to talk to, everyone else has classes or isn't there.

There. About two months summarized in a few paragraphs.

Since my last journal entry, I've had a suprise birthday party, gotten a job (and nearly lost it), been to a metal concert, and tomorrow I'm off to Newfoundland. Starting with the first one.

We went out to Wal-Mart and I tagged along to buy myself some beef jerkey. When we get back, I notice a large and expensive looking set of computer speakers partially hidden behind the table. As I'm wondering what the fuck those are there for, a bunch of friends jump out from behind the counter and it's revealed that I'm being given a surpise party (though I had kind of figured it out by this point). The rest of the night is a blur of laughter and Super Smash Bros Brawl.

My new job is not nearly interesting enough to talk about. It does pay well, though.

On Saturday (it's currently Monday here), I went up to Calgary for Monsters of Rock 2008. I had floor tickets, meaning at one point I was leaning on the barrier that keeps us from swarming the stage. Among the good bands were Zimmer's Hole, Priestess, 3 Inches of Blood, Serj Tankian, and Hatebreed. The truly mindblowing performances were by Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne, however. You haven't heard "Crazy Train" until you've heard 16,500 people sing it in unison. The most interesting part was probably during "Mama I'm Coming Home," when the camera scanned over the crowd by the stage. It's really quite strange seeing someone with spikes tatooed in his head and flame tatoos on his arms sing that song. Yes, even weirding than when it's sung by the guy that bit the bat's head off. Zakk Wylde is a hell of a guitar player, too. That was, in short, a very good day.

As for Newfoundland, the only part relevant to the internet in general is that I'm gone for about two weeks. Don't have any epic threads while I'm gone.

In more mundane news, I tried the demo for "Too Human" and thought it was promising, but they really need to fix that fucking camera. Having an HDTV would help my enjoyment, since everything was hard to read, but that's not the games fault. My TV is a piece of shit, I plan on getting a new one.

That about summarizes everything I feel like saying that I haven't said elsewhere.

This is why I play Kingdom of Loathing. Nothing kicks logic in the nuts as hard as the stuff that happens in this game.

I bought a new computer. It's a Certified Data Q6600, with nVidia 8800 GTX graphics card and a qud-core processor. In short, this computer is nearly self-aware. I bought Supreme Commander Gold Edition to go along with it. My old computer couldn't even run the demo of this game. My new one destroys the damn thing. I can even run Crysis, though I don't know if I want to bother. Demo didn't really impress me, but I might try it anyway. Not sure what I think of the new keyboard. The old one had this nice, high-quality feel, but I like he sound the keys on this one make when I type fast. Love the new mouse though, the last one was a piece of shit. Once I got used to this one moving around twice as fast, I concluded that it was betterin every way (since it is).

As for Supreme Commander, just buy it. I haven't been this hooked on a game since I first played an RTS. And that one didn`t have a tank the size of a mountain.

So I have my final exam coming up. Yes, that's meant to be singular, I only have one class this semester with a final exam. It should be easy, they always are. On a more interesting school-related note, we got Counter-Strike working on the school computers. Some of the maps don't work, but whatever. It beats the hell out of flash games. For added fun, we like adding as many bots as possible (16 on de_dust) and setting them to knives only. Then we go hunting. So far my favourite all-purpose gun is the Krieg 552, but the M249 is a close second. Fuck the AWP, it's for campers.

[link]
This was taken off of a story written on fanfiction.net, called My Immortal (after a song). The story is allegedly based off of Harry Potter, but if that's the case then it's in name only. All the characters have inexplicably become goths and most of the male characters have been turned into bisexuals. There doesn't appear to be any plot, and it consists mainly of the queen of all Mary-Sues and all the other characters having sex and discussing how great vampires are. Seriously. That's the entire thing.

On a positive note, Dawn of War: Soulstorm is out and awesome, and Dawn of War 2 has been officially announced.

EDIT: Forgot this. [link] It's a more...honest R&B song. It's hilarious.

I've noticed that fanfiction.net is a fantastic source of amusement, more from lazily written stories than anything else. Kind of like b-movies, but instead they're on the internet and using pre-established characters. [link]
Or maybe not. I'm still laughing at that one. "I AM A ZOMBIES WIZARD I HAVE NO NEED FOR EARTHLY HATS" stands out as one of my favourite lines from anything ever.

What the hell did any of that have to do with Dead Rising? And why does everyone have a different country for a last name? And how come John American's grandfather is John British, not John American? Perhaps the sequel will answer these pressing questions.
