No, seriously, that last one is a real problem - it starts getting dark around 3 P.M. and I really don't have a good lamp at home (meaning every time I try and draw my eyes feel like they're going to pop out). So now I'm on an epic mission to find a nice lamp. Talk about unexpected delays...

Oh yeah, hope you're all getting Christmas-y and stuff. Though I swear if I hear "Last Christmas" just one more time I'm gonna smash the god-damn radio.

Now when you've managed to get this through your head, let us discuss what we just saw (and cannot un-see).

In the west, bowel movement is considered to be something natural, and maybe just a bit inconvenient. In Japan, bowel movement is a rather rare occasion and cause for much rejoicing. That would explain why the little nipper is so confused by the unknown exploding sensation in his bum.

Relieving yourself is much more complicated in Japan. After your toilet gives you detailed instructions ("stop, drop and roll" is probably not the way to go here), your parents must then perform a Japanese version of exorcism (which is just like regular exorcism, only with more cute animals and karaoke) invoking the waste products to leave the body of a small child. Or maybe they're just doing it for encouragement, I dunno. But then they should go for something more inspirational like "Eye of the tiger" (also appropriate 'cause they're tigers). That will have your lil' tyke pooping like a champ! Maybe they should also throw in a training montage?

If anything, this video casts a shadow of doubt on the whole "over-demanding Japanese parents" stereotype. Remember how you tried to impress your western parents with good grades and sport results, hoping they might actually notice you next to the new Italian designer leather couch? Well parents in Japan throw you a celebration every time you manage to not shit your pants!!! Is that awesome or what!? In all fairness, your parents probably never required you to be good at something just so you could be allowed to wear pants. But being a minor and waking bare-bummed through Japan is probably nothing potentially hazardous.

Also, I'm not sure how wise it is to market potty-time as something fun to your children. Beacause kids like fun things - they might switch to a diet of curry and prunes so they can attend all the loo parties just like the cool kids.

Ok, enough with the oh-so-epic intro. What I mean to talk (write) about today is being a n00b on dA (I think it's appropriate since I've been here for a whole year . It takes some time to get to know all the rules and inner workings of this place. I shall now share my n00b story, and you are free to share yours in the comments section.

You see, when I first joined dA, I was the so called hope-springs-eternal n00b. No matter how bad an OC concept or a story was, I always believed it could be turned into something good and entertaining. Great story with boring characters? Not to worry, I'm sure it'll get better! An original character which makes the "original" part seem like irony? No problem, just fix a few things and it'll be perfect! In all fairness, I mostly gave support and constructive comments to teenagers who did have writing talent, but cluttered their stories with emo outbursts and song lyrics (the kind of stuff you'll probably grow out off by the time you hit 18). And after all, we can't start creating art only when our skills are polished to perfection.

But sometimes you just have to realise that some things are BAD and that isn't going to change. Yes, most of the people I supported did rewrite their stories. After reading "Twilight". Which means they probably took out everything that was good about the story and replaced it with an abusive undead emo boyfriend.

The only thing sadder than complete failure is wasted potential. That's why "Transformers: revenge of the fallen" sucking was a much bigger disappointment then "Twilight the movie" sucking.

It's not like the "Twilight" people could do much - even if they had written an Academy award winning script, the whole thing goes south the moment sparkling vampires come prancing in. You think "the Godfather" would have won all those Oscars if Michael Corleone was a sparkling mafioso? I think not.

But "Transformers 1" was such a fun film. I mean, you can't go wrong with this concept - it's giant robots! The only thing people expect from this film is to not be completely retarded. Yet Michael Bay took everything good from the first film and replaced it with pointless explosions and robot scrotum (oh, how I wish I was kidding). And two terribly annoying gangsta robots. I'm still pissed off those fuckers did not die. I'll probably be seeing them in the sequel (and in my nightmares).

So to sum up, I f-ing hate Lady Gaga. Her songs are terrible. And she's annoying. And if Boy George shagged Victoria Beckham, the offspring would still dress less retarded than Gaga.

it's been a while since I've written anything. The past months have been torture but it ended in one epic event: graduation! BOO-YA!!! I actually got my Master's degree a few months back, but still: goodbye to 5 years at university, hello to 40 years of unappreciated work and long hours (hm, when I put it that way... ).

Anyways, 'nuff 'bout that. Hopefully I'll use this summer to get some drawing exercise so I can suck to a lesser degree (before a get a real job). Drawing progress is kind of slow now since a had a little nail-smashing accident with my right thumb. But who needs thumbs when you can pimp-out in the ultimately epic shirt: [link] .

Though if you take Twilight seriously you should probably prepare yourself for a life of unhealthy and abusive relationships.

During one of our "why Twilight sucks, and not in a good way" discussions we tried to determine what is it about that book that puts us off so much. Is it the shitty writing, flat characters, Mormon propaganda or maybe the emo plot? I'm just pointing this out because apparently these things never stopped us from enjoying crappy SF books or low budget action B-flicks . Well I realised what (mostly) puts Twilight on my "save myself the trouble/torture" list is Bella U. Swan (the U is for Useless).

If there is one thing that can ruin ANYTHING for me it's a whiny, useless, damsel-in-distress female character. Yes, I know she's a Mary Sue with the whole I'm-not-special-but-everybody-likes-me thing, but seriously, couldn't you have made the character just a little bit less pathetic? I mean the woman's living proof that you can survive without a backbone. Even grass shows more defiance when you mow the lawn. "Save me, Edward!" "Don't leave me, Edward!" "Tell me what to do, Edward!" "Tie my shoelaces for me since I'm as useless as an ice-making machine to an Eskimo, Edward!". OMG, I just want to proverbially punch her in the face.

I'm not saying female characters should be omnipotent or wear T-shirts with girl power slogans (though I'm not saying they shouldn't either ), but come on. Useless whiny people are irritating enough in real life, so reading about them must be a more painful form of self-mutilation.

But that's how things go. You either like kick-ass girl characters and hate the useless ones, or the other way round. As for me, I'm still hoping one day Ripley will beat the living daylights out of Bella. Just for being lame. And just because she can.

O.K., first things first - I'm sick and just sitting upright makes me dizzy (stupid sniffles ). Second, it's February which means I'll be having final exams through the whole month (yippy-yo-yey ). I'm currently working on a colab with an another artist (no names, it's a surprise ), so I'm first going to try and finish that before starting anything new. So yeah, I don't think I'll be uploading anything soon .

Since I'm taking a little break to make this journal entry, I'm also going to fill out that "8 things about yourself" thingie (found it in =azieser's journal). Here goes:

1. I can move my ears.

2. I don't exactly cosplay, but I do take fashion tips from video games and cartoons . So far I've had the same hairstyle as Lara Croft, Kusanagi (GITS), April O'Neal (TMNT) and Lady (DMC) (i r lame, i no ).

3. My first crush was on Batman and I use to dress up like him all the time (I have some cross-dressing issues ).

4. I always carry a swiss army knife.

5. I find skeletons very fascinating and I have a skull in my room (it's fake, duh, I'm not that weird ).

6. My average body temperature is 35.5 C (95.9 F).

7. I love to climb and swing from monkey bars and jungle gyms (though I do it late at night, when there are no kids to see me )

8. I don't like coffee (just the smell of it), cigarettes or alcohol (except maybe scotch or malt "on the rocks").

I had no special wishes about what my postcard should depict, but this is just super special awesome I should also thank her for inviting me to take part in her Secret Santa project .

Hm, I feel sort of strange because I really didn't get that "holiday feel" this year O_o. I almost forgot my own B-day A year older, but still young. The last year was, hm, very lethargic . I finally got fed up with uni (most people go through this on their second year, but to me it happened on the fifth ). The saying "the night is darkest before daybreak" sure sounds true from my current position . But what the hell, I'm going to finish what I've started and then see what's next. One step at a time, eh?. And I'm glad I took up drawing again after almost 5 years! Hopefully this year I'll be closer to coming to terms with who I really am. Here's to self exploration

An acquaintance of mine took a look at my gallery recently. And she put on a very confused face once she saw it. "Your gallery... it's kind of... non-violent. Maybe even a bit, em, cute." She wasn't teasing me - she was genuinely confused.

Well, she was right: I guess my gallery does clash with my real-life appearance. Um, I'm not a mean person or anything, but I am pretty loud, I curse (though every New Year I make a resolution to quit ) and I have an affinity for wearing combat boots. I'm also kind of a ditz, but that's not relevant at the moment .

I mostly post pics that turned out better then usual (don't want to spam my account with the really BAD ones ). And the art I make is largely determined by my skills (I have a lot of ideas I'm not skilled enough to realise :'( ). But still, all the art I make can somehow be connected to a part of my personality.

So yeah, you shouldn't judge somebody through their appearance, but I guess you can't really get to know somebody unless you actually meet them either.*

This train of thought was brought on by a much less poetic question : I always wondered why I sometimes draw fan art about shows I was not particularly fond of in the first place, but it dawned on me recently. And before you ask: yes, I watch high quality shows as well . :back to the subject at hand: Take for example a manga/anime like Ghost in the shell. I liked the characters, I liked the plot and I liked the epilogue. That's why I don't have the need to add or develop anything.

However, in Yugioh I liked the characters, but I was never fond of the plot (for goodness sake, enough with the card games already! ). So it's fun to borrow the elements you like and see how you can combine them. I guess this goes more for fan fics than fan art, but then again, fan fics inspire fan art .

And now for a very meaningful conclusion at the end . Ehm... Well, I guess if everything in the world was perfect, we'd miss out on a lot of artwork . Ironic, isn't it?

I know I'm not really popular or anything, and my art skills still need lots of work, but the support and feedback I got from all the nice people here on dA really means a lot to me! I was never the kind of person to seek approval of others (actually I'm pretty self-centred ), so I was surprised how positive and inspiring these whole dA experience turned out to be.

And since were talking about dA:

There's a whole shit storm about under-age pornography AGAIN.

Hm, guess this is a complicated topic. Yes, kiddy porn is WRONG ALWAYS and WITHOUT EXCEPTION. But would Vladimir Nabokov be considered a pedo today for writing "Lolita"? I don't think art where the characters are aged qualifies as kiddy porn, but it makes the site helluva lot easier to maintain, and leaves no loop holes to be exploited.

I fear I've been spending too much time on dA lately (judging by the mountain of laundry that needs to be done ). But it's so fun to browse through people's galleries, guess I just lost track of time... And I haven't picked up my guitar in three whole weeks. But when I heard "the Boss" on the radio, I just gave my guitar a naughty wink - we've got a date tonight.

Sooo, I have some work to do (especially since the new semester will be starting soon ), but I also have a few ideas in my head that I yet have to put down on paper, so hopefully I will be posting some smashing new pics soon. Come to think of it, dA inspired me to finish pics that have been laying around unfinished for years (Master Procrastinator, that's me ).

And now to put on my pink rubber gloves (I try to be stylish in every situation ) and get cleaning. The Boss will be so nice to provide me with some background music.
