The weather forecast predicts up to 16-20 inches of snow today. That makes it the most amount of white stuff my home has gotten in the past four years (and probably providing more today than all of those years combined). I got to drive around in the snow for the first time today, which was fun and scary at the same time. This kind of weather is unusual for here; I have no chains or 4-wheel drive. At some point today I will also have to shovel the 3 foot deep layer of snow out of the driveway, and the pile taller than me that has accumulated onto my car. This is a good vacation. Know any good sledding hills for northern Virginia (ha ha)?

Today was a good day. I woke up around 8 and after a quick shower was all ready to head home. My room mate wasn't nearly as excited as I was, but he slept through most of the drive back anyways. The weather was cold, but sunny with hardly any wind. The area around his home, near Ft. Belvoir, was pretty clear so I decided to take the (slightly) more scenic drive on route 7100 rather than 267 or 64.
I got to stop by at a friend's Eagle Project before reaching mom's house for the weekend. It was good to catch up with the guys, even though most of the work was done while I was driving for 4 hours. I remember signing off on his Tenderfoot and Second Class requirements just a few years ago. It'll be fun to see everyone from the troop on the last meeting before their winter break begins - as an assistant scoutmaster (so weird).
Mom's house was just relaxing because I didn't get to sit down until now. First I helped with some yard work, then left for errands, set up the tree (with its evil, tangled lights), put lights on the roof, and helped cook dinner. I haven't gotten to cook anything more than boiled water since Thanksgiving; it's quickly becoming one of those "only at home" experiences. We just finished baking sugar cookies- its my turn to frost them.
Enjoy the holidays!

Hello...
The Thanksgiving holiday was great! There was good food, good times with the family, and I wasn't attached to the computer due to homework. Not only that, but I found some pictures and artwork that I thought I had lost last summer. The up-loader between this website and my computer still stinks, but all of the pics I want should eventually trickle here. I also need to find a scanner of some sort since I have some artwork, but no digital back up. But anyways, all is well and I can only hope that this good luck continues through the final exams and into the Christmas Break.

Hello...
I just got back from the Virginia Association of Teachers of English (VATE) conference meeting in Williamsburg, VA today.VATE is where English teachers join to discuss, through seminars, different teaching methods and how to apply new ways to keep students involved. There were also many college students who attended. During and after seminars throughout the day, people would talk about these 'new' techniques and what they knew from their experiences. It was in the middle of one of these discussions that one of the older teachers turned to me and asked, "So what do you teach?" I'm only a freshman in college, but I really like the sound of that. I think it is something I could get used to, even if I decide to teach something else (i.e. history or science).
Anyways, about the art. I can't get any pictures, drawings, or writings onto the website. It will try to load the image or text, and then never stop loading. They're not big files and my computer is in good condition, so I am left very confused. Has anyone else had this particular problem? I don't understand what's going on...

Wow...
My first semester of college is already halfway over. Midterms are being finished today and tomorrow, big projects are frantically completed (not me, ha! yay self-schedule!), and everyone is ready to vanish for the long weekend. It's only a three hour drive back home, but I will have to drop off my room mate and his girlfriend along the way- that's okay though, because that means gas money.
School has been busy. They say college is the next step up, but I guess you don't realize it until it's too late. I like all my classes- rhetoric (english), ancient history, sociology, wetland ecology, and (for the required seminar class) mexican-american inter-border cultures. Service hours are mandatory, but there are so many organizations around that it really won't be a problem. The state of Virginia apparently does not offer a major in education/teaching, but I can aim for a Master's degree in a 5 year program. Now I just need to choose a major that will correspond to what I will teach. Social Studies allows for the most opportunity and flexibility, but Science is interesting and I'm good at English/Literature as well. As long as it isn't too heavy in math, I'll be a happy person. Stats is probably as far as I go.
I have realized yet again that I am not the best with computers. I'm still not completely used to my new laptop, and I still need to transfer my old files and pictures to this one. Knock on wood or something so it'll work. Whether it's the internet provider at the school or the laptop itself, submitting pictures to deviant is temperamental at best. Sometimes it works, and other times it'll stay in the uploading sequence forever. Maybe I'll have better luck at home.
Until next time....
PS: I finally discovered the photo dump website "snap-fish", which for months I had confused the name for as fish-bucket (mixing the name with "photo-bucket"). Oops...

OK...
I finally was able to put some pics here through the old computer. It's old and incredibly slower now that the pictures are onto it; so I need to download them all onto discs and then delete them off of the old computer. That way I can upload the pics form my other memory card and put them here too while still using a somewhat respondent computer (then repeat). Perhaps I should save up for an external hard drive? I have this, "friend of a friend who knows this guy", who built his own computer from warehouse parts and it has around 5 terabytes onto it. I'm not too sure exactly what that amounts to; just that it's A LOT of available memory. Needless to say, his online games must not lag at all.
Anyways, I haven't been able to use my new laptop for the pics. It won't let me use i-photo, as well as some of the other programs that came with the computer. I think I need to uninstall and then re-install the programs. Maybe something went wrong during the initial uploading? I feel somewhat reluctant to ask the customer service guys at the Apple store; not only do I think they'll charge me (the price tags of their items support my theory) but I'm a man damn it! Apparently we have some drive to do everything ourselves despite the possible consequences (I have gotten lost this way many times already).
I can't really sleep tonight, for some reason or other. I just feel the need to write or read, but not stay still for more than a few moments at a time. It's almost an 'itching' sensation just underneath the skin. I probably look silly walking around in circles, holding the computer, and typing in my underwear during the earliest hours of the morning. I should go out somewhere tomorrow.
Just to be even more random; I watched 'The Knowing' today. Watching the movie was a lot like reading 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne- in that the "subtle" hints in the early part of the movie (and later) spelled out the rest of the plot. I guess it goes along with the theme of "it's ALL already spelled out". Overall it was good though- creepy and weird- but good. I liked the score a lot. I think mom just rented it because it has Nicolas Cage; he seems to be in a lot of weird movies like that.

I don't know how often I'll be able to use a computer while there, but I hope that I can bring back some good pictures.
After that the summer (for me) rushes by. I do a school orientation once I get back and by the end of that it's July. Now that I've aged out of being a Boy Scout, I plan on signing up to be a Scoutmaster- that'll surprise my friends still in the program. Let the summer commense!

My topic was topography, which was great because I usually assist teaching scouts that anyways. The government final wasn't perfect, but is over with. I think I will really miss my crazy right-wing teacher. The philosophy final was the best though. 100%. It was followed by Halo for the rest of the period. All that's left for today (school-wise) is a lot of studying for the PreCalc final tommorrow (shudder). I don't think I'll do well, but at least I tried my best, right?...
Anyways, I'm using the rest of 5th period to catch up everywhere online and study PreCalc. Everyone else is either asleep, surfing the web, or playing flash games. Everything is winding down; next week is the graduation proposal. I can't believe that by next... Thursday... I will no longer be in high school. After that my visits here will be sporadic between a job (hopefully), Dungannon, the beach, and California. I'm visiting my college for orientation in the end of June and I'll return for the semester on Aug. 18.
Oh, and I got to vote yesterday! It's my second time, but there's a lot more hype for the state-wide elections. My choice didn't win (again), but I suppose that a moderate in-office is better for everyone. I guess I'll be voting for Deeds in the fall?

Ahhh...

The weather for the last few days has really lightened the mood. Spring break has also been a chance to get outside for awhile. Even though it's been to work, it's nice to use my limbs rather than have them dangle at the sides of a desk. Speaking of lightness, the 3rd quarter wrapped up a horde of projects and papers. I also got an acceptance letter. Everyone says they can physically see a weight lifted off my shoulders. I'm just glad to have that part done with, and now it's time to focus on scholarships. Did you know that there was one for descendants of veterans from the American Revolution and Civil War? I sure didn't, but now I'm preparing to send letters to every place possible.

With spring comes the regular tradition of cleaning. I didn't realize how much stuff I posted. At some point in the future I'll at least organize them into folders. I'll also post some new pics, as well as another written piece if I can find it. In the meantime I'll be pulling weeds; I spent last week in the front and backyard, yesterday building a slate patio, and tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) trimming and weeding the sides. Mom's house is transitioning from a beat-up foreclosure sale into a good, clean, and settled home.

Work at my godfather's house was interesting as well. I didn't get to tear down walls and replace windows like last summer, but it is still cool to see all of the 'green' stuff installed. When we visited a Home & Garden Expo in Dulles a few weeks ago, he knew a fair amount of the businesses there. Due to his new job though, he couldn't pick me up this time. My first day driving in rush-hour traffic with a stick behind an 18-wheeler from Texas going uphill to Arlington and back was not the most fun adventure, but it was a learning experience (I also have lots of quarters from the toll roads).

Normally I don't update my journal so quickly, but I wanted to present a lighter mood than from when my cold was really bad. I have taken quite a few pictures, abet mostly of the stray kitten that frequents my mom's backyard (who has already named him Kipper). All I need to do now is find the right computer cord and temporarily upload the pictures onto the family computer.
In a strange turn of events, my english teacher has assigned us an art project. It has to be in 3-D and fit completely on our desks. I have recieved the oppertunity to interperate Lucifer trapped in the frozen lake of Cocytus. Nothing says fun more than eternal damnation as described by Dante. Lucifer will be made primarily out of paper mache and tape; the rest I don't know yet. I might post the hand while it's still in its clear packing tape form (of evil).
I think I've said this already, but it was such a great decision for me I'll say it again. To releave some stress I decided to use my electives for an art class. Since they're both right after PreCalculus (an evil combination of trig and calc) they have really helped. Just working with my hands on something is relaxing, and since I also took Computer graphics I'm learning how to use some different programs as well.
Hope this mood keeps up! (unlike the bipolar weather)

To be comepletely honest with myself, my muse is slightly befuddled. It's been really hard to concentrate lately, and I just can't get things done in the proper amount of time. Most of the pictures or projects or things I write look hurried because in a way they kind of are. It's probobly just the winter weather affecting me (and the seasonal colds) so things will spring back in... well spring. If anything decent pops up I'll post it, but first I need to find the cord that connects my camera and computer again.
There have been a couple of good campouts, and there are some friendly stray cats that pass by my mom's house every so often. The pictures probobly will come from there since my school is at the bottom of a hill; making it difficult to take pictures of the sunrise. The weather here keeps changing from fair to miserably windy and below 0, which is pretty unusual.
Anyways, my laptop is broken. It will no longer charge and it's supposedly not the battery's fault; leaving me confused and not tech-savy.I'm just glad that the info (including my pictures) is safe and can be transferred to a new one that I'm trying to save up for by the summer. Lacking a personal computer forces me to send everything I do to myself through e-mails. It's okay with me except that the librarians at school keep thinking I'm abusing their computers until I show them the mail. Being on the computer more often is allowing me to catch up here. It's great and good to hear how everyone's doing.

I'm sorry I haven't been here in a while, but it sure has been hectic and even now I'm on a borrowed computer. Thanks for all of the positive messages; I'll be sure to upload more later on as soon as I can find the cord that connects my camera to a computer. If I haven't said earlier, I took an art class. It's not exactly complicated, but it's especially relaxing after just coming out from (the evil torture known as) precalc; a combined mixture of both calc and trig. I think it makes art even better. Maybe I can upload some of those too (as weird as some of them are). Until then, I'll try to visit often and comment on everyone's stuff.

I send my apologies to my friends and to those I know from here, and hope that their patience can continue while I shift through as many of the new (old, and extremely old) deviations that have been sent to me during my absence. I can’t say when or how often it will be that I can answer my mail, as a good portion of my summer will be far away from any computer (let alone anywhere that has decent cell phone coverage). I will update when I can, and I hope that you all will continue to work hard and enjoy the results that you proudly display here.
My final year in high school should be much easier this year than in the past. The most important things will probably be the results from my SAT tests and any (hopefully) upcoming acceptance letters from prospective colleges. Speaking of which, if any of you attend some of the colleges around where I live (Virginia), please tell me about them. As good as the tours and school websites are, input from the students are much more personal and less marketing-driven.

Enjoy the summer (winter, or however it works)!
Dallas

PS: On a personal note, some of my friends have finally convinced me to create a Facebook profile. I’ll try to check on it every once in a while as well, but we’ll see how the season goes. For the past few weeks my dad has had me take Melotonin every night before going to bed. It is very effective and its influence has obviously been seen through my improving rades and ability to fall asleep. However I often find myself asleep before midnight which was when I did most of my work here. Lately my butt has been almost pemanantly attached to a chair for homework. Hopefully the upcoming spring break will prove to be much more free than the usual projects that come with it imply, and I will actually have the time to respond to the many deviations and messages as well as to simply sit and relax. I hope to write another journal while on my choir trip in NYC.

I came back to school only to realize that the break was “as easy as it was” because the rest of the papers and projects were waiting patiently back in the classrooms. The only traveling I was able to have was well received but extremely educational. My dad, being the history loving freak he is, became ecstatic upon hearing that we were starting the Civil War in US History. Harpers Ferry and Bull Run was all that the schedule could handle (thank you, or I might of heard more "'bout how my great-great-gandpapis in thuh 'hio Rive' Valley 'n' ol' uncle bushrod"), but more is probably on the way. Finially finishing most of my winter break work, I've come to visit my account to see more than 200 messages and deviations; looks like some people have been busy! Back here at home it is about 12:20AM on Dec. 25. Yes, it is finially Christmas where I am and I'm still patiently waiting for Santa to come down the (gas) chimney - my camera and I are ready and waiting. For those who celebrate Christmas, yay; and for those who don't, yay and welcome to the party. I'm getting to that painting I mentioned last time and I hope to be finished before January of the new 2008. Once again, happy holidays and new year, and I hope to post again around this time next year.

Its been a while since any real updates. With the holidays coming up and the breaks that come with them, the school (but not my teachers, apparently) think that more free time means more time to do projects, homework, and studying for tests. Although many don't agree everyone has to do it anyway, including me. That doesn't stop me from taking pictures though; the extra work just slows it to a trickle. I'm going to attempt painting with acrylics soon, and if not being able to spell the paint right doesn't convince you, then the fact that I'll probobly be lazy and "create a rendition" of one of my older pictures. It's good to try new things, although I'm not sure when I'll actually paint it- hopefully before the end of the year. (end self-anguish mode) It's cool to see all of the new watchers I have now, and I should be able to respond within the next couple of days if not tonight. I hope that I won't get nearly as many assignments as fall break; please cross your fingers for overall less homework-ness. Until next time...

Now that I am at least used to the boatload of worksheets, tests, and essays, I thought that now and the upcoming Thanksgiving break (US holiday) was the perfect time to catch up uploading pictures onto my gallery... WRONG! I have been smote by some terrible vengence from God, who for some reason is against me geeting much productive work done here. The computer progam for my camera is experiencing some "technical difficulties" and will freeze as soon as I open it. Not only can I download the current pictures from my camera onto the computer, but I also am no longer able to put pictures onto this site! This delay will not be tolerated, and I should soon find a way to make things right.

The two first weeks of school have been agonizingly painful, the only excitment aside from the occasional fight in the hallway or pepless pep rallies are the Friday-night football games (Now when I say 'football', I mean the American version that has almost nothing to do with the foot; except for the kick-off and field-goal.). The Friday before school began, our team beat 'South County High' 45-6. Also, as a totally uncomparible fact; their high school is just across the steet from a recently shut down prision (How old are these students and what do you mean they spend more than 4 years?). Anyways, I realize that I have a ton of mail and deviations to answer to; one of them (thank you <hallowseve31&gt states that I have been "TAGGED". By using totally random selection, I will pick 6 vict-... deviants to "tag". Those 6 that are tagged will follow these rules:
~> List ten things that are interesting about you and/or your art and put it into your journal.
~> Then choose 6 other deviants to tag so they can do this too.
~> Put them into the journal so that they get informed that they've been tagged (better if you post it in their profile as a comment-)
~> You can't tag the person who tagged you
Here are the vict-... great artists:
And here are my 10 facts:
- I have never taken an art class since 5th grade...but I really should...
- I have been in choir since 4th grade; this is how I met Handel, Bach, Schubert, and others...
- I use a Pentax Optio W20...my first and so far only camera...
- Because my grandpa had an gigantic garden (larger than his house was) I have grown to love plants and flowers...
- My dad is an Army officer (Lt.Col.), so I haved moved a lot and get to travel as well (fun)...
- My time in the Boy Scouts has helped me realize my love of nature and the outdoors; you say the word, and I'll dash off to that 20+ mile day hike you mentioned...
- The first time I went on a hike, I fell off a small cliff into a lake... and the leeches inside were happy to see me...
I have had an great summer! However, that only means that it must come to an end; it did just that with my first day of school. Towards the beginning of today I at least had hopes of being in a [slightly] better position as an upperclassmen, but even that came crashing down around my feet before half of the day was over. Needless to say school has already provided me with more than enough work, and I won't be able to play here nearly as often. After sorting through al of the mail and deviations, I'll start putting in all of the pictures and probobly won't be done until the Holidays unless a miricle happens. Oh well, at least I'll get to read- AP Psychology, US History (11th grade), US Literature (11th grade = lots of Ernest Hemmingway), Physics 1, Geometery... and lots more! Goodbuy summer!

Well, I just got back from another week-long adventure: this time in southwest Virginia. I went with 57 other people to Dungannon, VA; where we stayed at a housing center and split up everyday into groups to build and repair homes. Our groups' job was to screw-in and paint a roof while replacing rotten wood and getting rid of all of the wasp nests under it- there were a lot of wasps and bees. But the whole area was beautiful, and the woman living there had a garden and three dogs. Other groups got roofing, flooring, pluming, electrical, construction, and demolition jobs. It was a lot of fun as well as a learning experience- it also just felt good to help others. Many of the people there lived in trailers that looked as if they were about to fall apart, and the houses there weren't in any better shape. I definatly got some use out of my camera, and I can't wait to see what everyone else took while on the trip. The rest of my summer is not over or slow: in about a week I'm off with my mom's family to Nags Head, and the next week with my dad's family in California (I still need to finish my summer work befor September!) Although busy, I'm going to have lots of fun before returning to the grindstone... school.

Well, I'm back from my Scout trip in the Keys, and I must say it was alot of fun. From learning with the rest of my troop on how to sail an old-style schooner (named the Heritage of Miami 2) to snorkling in the crystal clear waters (alongside fish with bodies and sets of teeth longer than I am) and spending one of our days walking around Key West - needless to say, there were plenty of opportunities to take loads of pictures. Unfourtunetly though, the one downside of the journey was having my camera stolen while I was in the pool - apparently leaving one's camera on a desk in one's own locked hotel room is not enough for it to be secure. I soon realized how spoiled I had become with the ease of a digital as I bought two or three disposable ones for the trip. Luckily, insurace really pays off in the end, and another one is being sent to me and will be here within a day or two. So over the past 12- 14 days I have leaned several important things: how to properly sail a ship (for teambuilding), how to look at the horizon and slowly eat crackers when seasick (it's best to 'loose it' when you point your face off deck), and to keep everything you own well hidden and under lock and key; even if you think it wouldn't be taken.

Well...
So far tonight I've spent my time packing for what is going to be my first of four trips for the summer. This first one is taking me on a flight down to Florida to what is one of the three national Boy Scout high-adventure camps. From Key-West we will be sailing all across the waters in our rented three-masted schooner- the best part about it is the only person who knows how to properly operate the boat will be the skipper. About 20+ people and I will spend until the end of July figuring out how to operate our vessel while fishing, snorkling, scuba-diving, and attempting to tie the many knots required for sailing. Despite all of the "terrible difficulties", it will be a lot of fun, and I can't wait to leave this Saturday (wrote this on Tuesday). I still need to find or purchase some of the things on the required packing list, but I still have a few days until the 5:30AM flight...then I can sleep with ease. Because I will be on the open water (or in transit) for nearly 15 days, I will unfourtunatly be away from any type of communication (other than the ship's radio) and technology (except for my camera). I will get back from my trip just in time for my next one, which will send me to the south-eastern tip of Virginia. There I will be with my church mission trip (in Dunngannon, VA) to build and repair homes. That will also mean being away from a computer for another week. Oh well...

Well...
It's Independence Day for my country, and being American, we nornally celebrate the typical American way: a family barbeque at some park with the whole family; later watching the fireworks sparkle above us. However, due to the downpour that is drenching my home now, my family (the half that hasn't caught a summer cold) is setting up the giant umbrella to put out on the deck while my dad and I attempt to light the now wet matches. Despite all the rain though it's relly a lot of fun- both my parents got to take the day off, and for once in a long time we're celebrating a holiday together- not any sort of crappy half-day with each one thing. Happy 4th...

Hello again! Well, my family and I decided to go see some fireworks but had to drive out a fair ways to see any away from the rain. The show started on time but it didn't last very long...about half-way through the show, one of the rockets went off before it launched- thus cutting the show early (too bad, it looked like it was going to be a big red one).

Well...
It's yet another sleepless night where I find myself afixed to the computer. I don't know why I'm not tired- I didn't sleep well the past few nights and I'm eating and exercising right. Right now all that's going through my head is static, and I'm guessing that it will continue through the early morning. Anyways, this has at least given me enough time to put all of my new photos onto my account: that at least is a relief for now. All of the recent flower pictures on my account is because of my walk this morning (at 5:30AM)- outside along the pathway were countless numbers of wildflowers and the sunrise that came with it made the beginning of the day spectacular. I can't wait until mid-July when all of my camps and "family visits" begin (all over the country, mabey even out of it...). YAY! But while I'm still awake I might as well try to find some of the photos I took on my trip to Canada from last summer, or try to figure out how some of my computer programs work...yawn...

I think that this is my first journal entry EVER. I suppose now is a good time to start as any, and hope that I'll remember to add to the entries. It's great to be here at deviantArt as both a new artist and as someone who is still trying to figure out how to use a computer... I get plenty of critique on the art that I present and learn the skills for my computer. I've only just started to add art just over a month a ago (May, 2007), and was extremely pleased with the almost immeadiate stream of comments. I'm glad to now have a first- friends made from being on-line...definatly easier to contact than the regular friends who I move away from every couple of years. I hope to continue using deviantArt, as it has brought me such a positive outcome.
