I was supposed to be off work today, and it's my last day off until i go back home to Idaho. BUT of course, they "forgot" to schedule someone to help close the store tonight (which is what i always do, what a surprise) and so, they called me in today to work at 5 pm until midnight.
I know they planned it that way, i just know it.


And I got my other Die Mannequin CD in the mail today, and it's pretty good. It's not really a first release, though, more like their two EPs put together. Just to finance tours and stuff like that to work up the band's hype.

So, I decided to go back to my old plain journal style. CSS was nice, but too much sacrifice was involved.

And I'm going through a Die Mannequin craze right now. I'm still listening to Type O every day, but I'm also jamming to Die Mannequin. I even just ordered there How To Kill EP. It's nice to find a decent metal band with a female singer who ain't whiny and shit. Care Failure's a'ight.
And I can't get enough of this song.

I've begun to work on a 16x20 inch poster with the theme of a Golgotha, which is anything considered a place of bones. Here would be a good example: [link]
Another good example would be the Elephant Graveyard in the Lion King, which is what I've decided to base my poster off of.
I've also decided to post screenshots and progress reports while I work on this, hopefully gaining feedback, since I want this to be a generally high quality poster.

Here's the initial sketching on GIMP (since I don't have access to Photoshop or Corel). The canvas size is the minimum size for a 16x20 DeviantART print, 2400 wide by 3000 high.

At this point I'm starting to put in the final outline, being as careful as I can. Just using a black paintbrush. Nothing special.


I'm going to be very careful with this project, doing only a little bit at a time, which will also keep me from getting distracted from the commissions.

So far I've gotten at least 1,050 page views each month this year, excluding May (and January - i got 118 then). I'm almost over 1,000 this month. And I'm not trying to claw popularity from the sky with shallow requests, and I really don't care if I get any pageviews. I mean, it's just a number (maybe when i get a million i'll be a little excited). I just want to see if I could keep this streak going. Plus I'm OCD, so there's that.

Work on anything Allto and Hned related has ceased until summer, and for Mick & Hammock, I'm just churning the ideas around in my brain, as well as developing characters. I came up with a cool female character, and she's a pyro. But I'm NOT using her to channel hate-filled memories into my writing. People seem to think I'm disturbed when i tell them about my troubled past, but i'm not. I'm normal, and even then it was hardly a big thing. I just thought it`t be an interesting concept for a story arc.
As for CHEiS, I'm ashamed at the incredible lack of work I've done on it. I meant to remake a lot more characters, but I've been occupied with my other projects/pipe dreams.

Oh, and I rented Juno. I still love that movie.

But the main reason I began this journal is simply because for my reputation for posting several journals a week, it's been a long time. And I just couldn't let Toastypants stay featured when Symptomz had such a short run.

This guy is a pretty great artist with a kind of appealing macabre style. My favorites are his inks, which are incidentally done with the same pen I use.

I'm on book three of the Dark Tower, the Waste Lands. The Gunslinger and the Drawing of the Three were great, and this one's no different. Stephen King is a master of suspense, a master of horror and, incidentally, a master of fantasy.

So, I went to the open house at ArtsWest today (well technically yesterday, but who gives a bean) and we decide to hold off on the interview. But we looked at their courses and stuff, and it looks great. It turns out I would still be doing academic classes if I went there, but really a lot less than art, which is equally as good as none at all, i guess, as far as college and work are concerned. And while we were there, there was no school, just trailers, but the plan for the building as the school enters its second year of existence looks incredibly beautiful.
BUT.
I was talking to the visual arts instructor, Mr. Something, and it turns out he's a really prestigious graphic artist and has done hundreds of projects for bigwig companies and parties. And I showed him some of my digital art, both with mouse and tablet, and he seemed pretty impressed (but i bet he was acting). He told me he especially liked my tablet drawn grayscale pieces like "Masked" and "Empty Spool".
AND.
The bastard made me want a Macintosh even more, with his intimate knowledge as a former graphics software programmer (i believe he had a part in Corel Painter X). He also told me about how the school's musical arts division has competed in and won many world-renowned musical competitons and he hopes to make that happen with visual arts as well (as well as allow students to meet with REAL clients and do REAK business - how fucking cool would that be?).
ANYWAY.
I found it pretty funny when he was telling me about some art college on some campus in some city in California. Now you'd expect the thing to capture my attention would be hearing that it's "the art institute for America, but that wasn't the case. What caught me is that it was the Arts Center in Los Angeles.
Figure it out for yourselves.
