The weather was very odd - mist and low cloud - and the sea was very rough, but this turned out to be perfect conditions for the kind of minimalist long exposures I'm a fan of but don't get the chance to shoot very often.
The only question now is whether to submit all my shots at once, or limit it to two or three a day to avoid flooding peoples inboxes. Thoughts?

And now, let me present a feature of some of the shots taken by ~The-Almighty-Cheese in Southwold. I have chosen the ones I think are best, but also ones that are composed in ways I would not have thought of myself. I hate to admit it, but I think he has a much better eye for a good composition that I do.











This one, in particular, makes me very envious. He seems to have hit on an almost perfect composition for this particular shot, so much so that I didn't even bother trying to get something similar and instead whipped out the infrared filter in a bit of shameless one-upmanship :D

The next shot shows me in a somewhat precarious position... I'll be uploading the shot I got sometime soon.

But enough whining! Seeing as I'm temporarily without a subscription (hint hint...) and thus cannot post features, I'll actually have to write something this time. As far as my photography goes, I'm pretty happy with how I've progressed, although along with that goes a growing knowledge of the limitations of my current camera. Saying that, I won't be replacing it for a few months yet, partly because of cost and partly because I don't yet think I really need anything better. Probably after my birthday in June I'll invest in a DSLR, and I've pretty much decided on the Nikon D80 at this point.

I finally fixed a problem with my printer yesterday. It would always print photos way too dark and nothing seemed to help, but after extensive tweaking, googling and much wasted paper and ink I've cracked it. It still prints a tiny bit dark, but I can easily fix this by whacking brightness up 10% in PS. I suspect my monitor may need proper calibration, but to be honest it doesn't seem worth it.

I haven't been out shooting in a while or had much inspiration to try anything lately, except for some snapshots on a Geology fieldtrip to Dorset, although once Sebb gets his filters and gets off crutches for good I expect that'll change. There's a whole load of places in Cambridge I haven't been yet, and I've got Switzerland to look forward to this summer. I'm beginning to realise that I'll miss having such a beautiful city on my doorstep when I go away to University. Which is another matter entirely... Quite frankly, its a massive choice and I'm pretty scared about it!
My two contenders for first choice are Sussex and Durham, and at the moment I'm leaning towards Sussex. The reputation that Durham has would obviously be an advantage, but I think I'd always regret not going to Sussex.

It was actually my final piece for my GCSE art exam :)
Anyway, I'm pretty fond of it and I like the way it looks up there at the top of my journal, but seeing as I'm extremely biased I'd really appreciate some second opinions...

It was a belated birthday present actually, I was 17 last saturday! I'm still waiting for some presents, filters that are currently out of stock on Amazon - a Hoya R72 infrared and a circular polariser - but I've already ordered an ND400, which should arrive sometime next week :D I love long-exposure photography and soon I'll be able to finally try it for myself!

I decided to spruce up my journal this week, its a bit basic at the moment but hey, it stands out! I'll improve it once I learn a bit more about CSS ;)

I'll also be featuring some of my favourite artists and deviations soon, although I know I dont really get enough visitors for it to make a real difference... All the same I'd like to do whatever I can for those who have astounding galleries and far fewer page views than they deserve. I'm open to suggestions for deviants to feature - you could even suggest yourself - just have a quick look through my favourites to see what I like and if you think I'd like a gallery send me a note ;)

On the subject of features, I promised =TheEmptyWhiteRoom one to say thanks for the subscription...
