Really, REALLY sorry to have been away for so long.  I'll not bore you with details.  Things have just been busy (with my wife's ongoing medical condition), and my DA page had become quite a time vampire.  If people write a note or message, I always felt compelled to at least READ them all, if not respond to all.  I cant do that anymore; there's not enough hours in the day.

Top of the bill, the ROCKETEER screening:

The film was shown at Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood (my first time there).  It was a new digital print, and it looked wonderful.  The FX weren't cleaned up in any way. But they DID digitally paint out the wire dragging the 'crashing' GeeBee down the runway, from the beginning of the film.

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 is a distant memory, and life slowly returns to normal.  It was a lot of work trying to get ready for the show, and once there… I must admit that the con wasn't the nightmare that SDCC 2009 was.  While SDCC is never actually FUN anymore (it hasn't been for us since the early 2000s), it wasn't the soul-draining siege it was the year before.

First, I'm sorry we missed Baltimore due to Allison's illness.  Influenza with pneumonia is nothing to sneeze, no pun intended.

NYC last weekend was certainly an interesting experience.  My warmest, heartfelt thanks to the many fine folks who came by, said hi, and were genuinely fabulous to hang out with.  Tops goes to Jim Clancey for shuttling us back to our hotel with all our stuff after the end on Sunday.

Please understand, I'm not being an inconsiderate dick.  If I do it for you, then out of fairness' sake, I should do it for everyone that asks.

I get asked about 20+ per day.  Given the time it would take to look at a gallery, and then write a critique, which I would estimate at about 15 minutes, you would think that would be enough time to take for a fan or fellow artist, no?

Someone asked me what art supplies I like to use.  Here's what I'm comfortable using:

PAPER:  I like to use Strathmore 3-ply or 5-ply illustration board, in cold-press (rough) finish, for most illustration assignments.  That includes anything pen & ink, as well as color.

Everyone knows that Allison & I have two wonderful puppies; I've since become VERY sensitive to cases of animal cruelty.

A friend of mine in Toronto brought this to my attention, the case of a little puppy named Sasha.  Sasha has been exposed to just about as much animal cruelty from both humans AND other dogs as I can imagine.

All of the sketches posted today were done the same way, with the same tools, on the same paper.

I pencil on 11" X 14" Bristol sketch paper.

I ink the pencils with Faber Castell Pitt pens.

I do the gray tones with Copic markers, using the gray sets (0, C1-C10, 100, 110).

I do highlights and such with Windsor Newtin white calligraphy ink, and a brush.

Now that the season is over, and my hand is well enough for me to work, I get to do alllllllll the assignments and stuff I wasn't able to, all summer long.  YAY.  I've been drawing again for about 3 weeks, and it hurts after a while, among a few other annoying side-effects of the injury.

But!  What I'm getting at is, I will be trying to keep up more with the DA, MySpace, website updates, and correspondences as well as I can.

I've had SO MANY wonderful gestures of warmth and compassion that I can't tell each and every wrist well-wisher this individually:

I did not hurt my wrist.

Repeat: I DID NOT HURT MY WRIST.

My wrist is fine, as it has always been.

I tore the collateral ligament that runs alongside my thumb and connects the two bones of the thumb to the knuckle.  My wrist is A-OK.  My thumb is what's all f*****-up.  That's why I can't draw too well, because I can't pinch the pencil bwteen my thumb and forefinger.
