I don't normally fancy ranting about computers, but a recent dicussion has got me all riled up to bang the world to rights.

Macs.

I take photos, therefore, i need a Mac.

It's not a question of choice.

Macs are better for photos.

End of.

Not a PC?

Nope.

Mac.

Ok. I'l point out the first serious flaw with this obscenely annoying 'Mac mentality'.

I'M POOR!

I love using a Mac for photoshop use, but it's the same as using my Pc for photoshop use. It's the same bloody program!!!!

I needed a new machine to edit photos. The ONLY machine i could afford with the money i spent was a Mac Mini with an aftermarket screen. I *could* have gone upto a 20" iMac for £140 more, so lets assume i did that. And now i have a pretty box with a whopping 1Gb of ram, a Radeon 2400XT and a 2.0ghz Core2Duo. Actually, i would have gotten a student discount, so say i would have gotten that £140 back.

The base spec MacBook has a higher frequency processor. AND IT'S A LAPTOP! The grand total that £800 iMac could have ran upon opening a few decent size raw files? Fuck all.

Honestly, the sooner people realise it's as much about the SPEC as the fact it says Mac on the box the fucking better. I'm almost at the point of buying one and putting up with the piss poor performance just to shut everyone up!

Well i have a new idea.

The more photographers who go out and blindly spend money they don't have on iMacs.

The more will go out of business.

And the more business there will be for me.

You simply will not make people see sense. It's like trying to persuade a vegaterian a Minskiis steak sandwhich is the shit. It is, but they'll never buy it. So i'l stop trying. Fortunately it is me who has to put up with my PC at light speed, and not the person with the slow expensive iMac. CS3 being Mac native really will only account for a certain performance change. Macs are still powered on PC hardware, and they still need quick hardware to operate, you guessed it, quickly. The sheer fact people buy a £800 computer with a 2.0ghz dual core, 1GB of ram and £30 graphics card astonishes me.

I realise im opening myself up to all manner of insults and Fanboys but i simply do not care. If you've gone and brought one of the aforementioned iMacs and are genuinely impressed by its performance, great. I'm not sure what else you've been using, but great. But if you even attempt to defend Mac from the price issue do remember,

1) The cpu costs about £70
2) The ram costs about £30
3) The gpu costs about £30
4) The HD will cost a maximum of £70,

So you're spending a whopping £600 on a fancy case and a screen with a colour problem! Even if my prices are out by £100, or £200, you're still spending a LOT.

Mac, release that same £800 20" iMac with a quad core cpu, 2GB of ram and a graphics card that isn't older and slower than my nan, and i'l buy one. I promise.

Yeah, woah. A journal entry. It's not that exicing. Probabaly more woh.

Especially as i've not been on here in so long everyones abandoned viewing my page (Don't blame you, i wouldn't want to look at the same un-updated brick wall 60 times a day either)

And to be perfectly honest, i'm only putting this up here because it's better than doing my CV.

And i want to put up a little note that says although i'm not ashamed by any of the work on here (On the contrary, i love a lot of it) it's not really where my photography 'is' at the moment. So don't take too much notice of it. Except my ILL 'standing in the way of fast approaching Motocross bikes' skillz.

It's telling me my subscription is almost expired too. I can't actually remember what an account looks like without one, but as i've updated this maybe twice in the past year, i'm sure it wont be missed. But thankyou to Jim for donating me one anyway. Sorry i couldn't do it more justice

I'm still hustlin my way through college. I have an absolutely amazing idea for my final major project, of which i'l be uploading the final peices up here (Although in seriously de-sized format, they're gonna be howwwge) so if for any reason you actually see me appear in your Devwatch, and it comes out half as good as im picturing it in my noggin, i'de reccommend coming to have a look.

In the meantime, i'm importing some stuff to get it mega cheaps. As i would pay full price for a 24-70 2.8L but that's just silly. So frankly, i won't. This does mean i could have a brand new boxed one (Even two) up for sale for £650 (That's £120 off retail price) If anyone is interested. Also means you don't have to order it from Hong Kong to make a saving (Which if you end up getting taxed, doesn't save you any money anyway )

I'm doing a mini-shoot this Sunday for some Autumn/Winter Coats and Jackets, but i highly doubt i'l get round to putting any up. Though I may throw up one just to show you all i'm not lying.

Oh, and thankyou SO SO SO much to all the people who have faved and featured my work. I'm really sorry i haven't gotten around to thanking you all personally yet, but i shall do

Rather interesting Christmas and New Year break for me.. i hope you all had one just as exciting.

Looking forward to an excellent 2007. I have to admit, i didn't make any specific resolutions, only to carry on having a giggle, and not to take anything too seriously. Hopefully further my photography along the way. Most likely continue to not learn a lot at college and instead be drowned with random contextual shit. Which i'l have to learn to block out or something. Spend more time with my friends, spend more time with her. Remember the good memories i already have, make some more. Just, fun.
So yeah, that's about it really. I hope you're all gonna continue to have a laugh, and check out my photos of me having a laugh.

Ride-Central.com Reprezentin' '06 bitches.

Mad notes. Absolutely mad notes... Ykno when you just have one of those days, where you are inundated with good news?

I've been working from 8am till 10pm, with a 1 and 1/2 hour break, which is good, because i have much needed money for my trip to France.

Whilst working, i get a phonecall from my mum, telling me that she has got her degree in Psychology And she passed with a 2:1, which not only was it what she was aiming for (2:1 is bloody good to those who don't know!), but she did it whilst holding down a house, 2 kids and a dog. Well done mum I'm proud of you.

Also whilst working (Well, with those hours, not a lot was going to happen whilst i wasn't working, was it?) i get a phonecall from my good mate Dan. Informing me that against all odds (haha!) i have passed my college course! And am now (apprently) an official software developer. Which is fan-fucking-tastic, and i'm over the moon

AND! England won their group With an albiet shakey performance (at best) against Sweeden (The last goal was PATHETIC). To be honest it doesn't really mean anything. We were going through anyway, and Germany or Ecuador in the 2nd round.. well.. lets just say we always have a knack of making things look harder than they should be!

AAAAAAAND! (Bet you're getting sick of this), i fly out to France in just over 10 days time. Due to Sleazyjets new queer baggage rules, we're 20kg free baggage down on last years amount (which when you're carrying a months worth of clothing, a laptop, a DSLR, 35mm, lenses, and a downhill bike, with added heavy bag.. it's a bit of a ballache), which means me and Edd had to take drastic measures.

I put on just about every peice of clothing i wanted to take out there. I figured out i managed to put on 10kg of clothing, which is a total £50 saved in excess baggage fees! In your FACE Stellios.

Oh, one more thing (honest this time), my good mate Micce from Sweeden, just informed me he has in his posession, an ENYCE tee i imported from the states ages back. I lost in on my last trip to france and thought it had been stolen. Turns out i just left it in his van. I fucking love that tee. So that's awesome.

1. What kind of first impression do you think people say when they first see you?
Depends what situation they've just seen me in. I act differently on the bike to being out in town.
Listen to loud music, play along to it on my guitar.
GUNITTT!

4. How many drinks do you need before you get tipsy?
14. What do you miss most about being a kid?

What an awesome day. You can't argue with this weather. Alright i'm only sitting around cleaning my room waiting for work later (which coincidentaly i quite like! That's a first) but i'm looking forward to France, and that's just keeping me on the most rediculous high.

Might aswell JUMP! JUMP!

Ahem. Yeah, got another photoG job today aswell, some studio still life stuff for a Motocross company. Which sounds ace. Have another one on Saturday, which sounds like it will be a laugh. Can't wait for Sunday though!

My uncle rang me up the otherday to ask me if i would like to be Godfather to my baby cousin Joe. Which will be brilliant. I have to say some things, but apprently my only main job is making sure he carries on supporting City!

So his christening is on Sunday, i have to go out and buy myself some smart stuff though. Fair enough i'm rather long overdue smart clothes, but god knows when i'm going to find time to go shopping!

Other than that, just wrapping up the loose ends of college and sorting my next course. Trying to get holiday insurance and also treat my bike to a few things. Oh and my mate Scott has kindly agreed to sort out an External Icybox drive for all my damn pictures. My laptop is really feeling the weight of Large fine jpegs and RAW files.

Unfortunately missed Ride-Central.coms round 2 race at Churchill, but i was broke beyond beleif after just paying off my holiday. So my job had to come first. Need money to keep going to college afterall!

So yeah, i'm good. I hope you all are too.

Make it count.
Today i took my first small steps into the world of paid photography. That's right, i actually did a paid job with my camera. Oh how good it feels.

Super good day, really friendly client, nice weather. It all went super. My lens after being rather bitchy suddenly turned into a magical drainpipe, and mayaswell have been made of solid gold. Super sharp crisp shots, lovely colours. I had no idea what was going on. I must have dropped it or something...

£25 p/h was a nice rate instead of £5.30, too.. Client was very impressed, i was very impressed, everyone seemed to be very impressed.

So i shall sign off, early start tommorrow earning £5.30 again. That's gonna feel so shit.

I stood up on a cold hill camera in hand for FAR too long. Took FAR too many photos and as a result ended up with FAR too much bloody file renaming and fucking around when i got home.

Fortunately, I sold my first print!

Currently sold 3 prints, One Digital file, and am just awaiting payment on 2 more prints from another couple of folk. Which covers my expenses from the weekend, and makes me enough to go and get a celebratory drink.

Alright it's not enough to pay for my camera and all my gear, but we all have to start somewhere!

Peace out folks.

:: Get a profile - Get exposure - Get sponsored - Ride-Central.com ::

A) My new lens arrived
B) My new bike arrived
C) My photography portfolio has been uploaded

So, 1, My new lens Rocks!! I'm so freakin' happy with it. Haven't really had a decent chance to go out and test it, but it feels lovely. And what few test shots i've got with it i'm more than impressed with.

2, My bike rocks!! Frame came on friday and the rest of the parts monday. Had it build up and running straight after college Monday afternoon, so now i'm itching even more to get out to France next year.

3, I'm rather happy with how my portfolio turned out. I hit the web without a clue how it was to look, first time properly using html to actually do something, and hey presto!

Can't thank enough for hosting it for me, and for helping me sort the problems in my code. You're both top

You can find it here, [link]

It's only simple for now, but i'l be changing etc as i go along. Updating pictures, all that malarky. I'm very pleased with it for now.

Now after reading all of that, you should check out these lovely folks, for being well.. lovely.

Dark monitors = Not good

Okay, so i sort all my photo's at home accordingly, yet everything seems really dark straight off the camera.

I knew my monitor was a bit shot, but i wasn't quite aware just how much!

I come to have a look over my "Vapour trails" pic on a monitor in college, and you can see the detail of the entire skyline! It's perfectly black on my screen at home! I didn't think all these pictures i've been shooting have been that dark!
New monitor time. Humpf.

Yes! I finally got the weather i've been asking for. One day of lots of sun, and very little clouds.

Out the house at 10:00, and i didn't get back till about 2 and a half hours ago.. so a fair while to be out looking through a viewfinder.

So armed with my DSLR, a couple of lenses and a flash gun, i set out with one purpose, to wear out my shutter button. I was in all sorts of places, clambering mainly over the MEN rooftops to get good shots of the skyline. No-one seems to mind when you look like you know what you're doing. Madness.

I've culled my 673 total images down to 66. Obviously i can't post them all, but theres a few i want to polish up and showcase. Sat ontop of one of the roofy things at the MEN gave me an excellent view of the cranes, a popular theme in Manchester right now. New things being made everywhere!

Phew, twas a good day. Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as i enjoyed taking them!

Well, finally took my first big steps onto DA. Glad I did, somewhere to put all my artwork rather than being held prisoner in the SGS Art cupboards.

Variety of things really, I wish they hadn't lost my wire work. Contrary to popular belief I did actually put a lot of time and effort into that. Any medium is a fun medium. So much to do though!

I'm getting off to a bit of a slow start, but I’ll get round to uploading it all eventually. Even if most of it is just scrap.
