Monday through Thursday of this week, I was at a science camp at Salt Lake Community College with 20 other high school kids. It was focused mainly on composites and we toured ATK and ITT, learning about the creation of missile segments and aircraft parts.

I'm glad to be home. This summer has been busy. D:

So I went to a Keane concert at Kingsbury Hall last Tuesday night. (Look them up on MySpace if you haven't heard of it.) Loooooved it.
I took video of parts - or the entirety - of each song, and went crazy taking photos as well.

Then my friend Priscilla and I waited quite awhile in the cold to meet each of the four band members - we got autographs, hugs, and photos...

It was LOVELY. (And meeting them was definitely worth getting home so late - I went to school with only 3 hours of sleep. Ack.)

On Friday I left for southern Utah. My parents and I saw Bryce Canyon, the Grand Staircase, the Burr Trail, and Kodachrome Basin over two days - Friday and today were driving days. We stayed in Cannonville and Torrey, and had the BEST hamburgers on earth at the Burr Trail Grill in Boulder.

I walked for a couple of hours today.

I'm kind of worried about my AP tests for calculus and English in two weeks. The rest of my classes are a breeze, thankfully. The last month of school - after those AP tests, yeah - is going to be great. I'm looking forward to it.

And a side note - this spring I've made $455 from awards for "Four Eyes," "Seeing Voices," and "Composure."

Now I've getting started on a drawing of a photo from 1942 - [link] from Flickr - that's free of copyrights, so I can go crazy selling prints of it when it's finished. Old photos like that are going to be my "concentration" part of my portfolio.

I went to the Capitol building, was introduced with some other award winners to the House of Representatives while they were in session, then carried my giant drawing (along with six other artists) around the Senate floor when they were in session as well.

And I shook hands with some senators.

A bunch of us got together last night for a fake cocktail party. The food was excellent. The whole thing was excellent, really.

Any resolutions? I'm just hoping I'll get around to exercising more, and being nicer to people in general. And hopefully I'll just generally improve myself, and cut down on the self-pity.

She grew up in South Africa, and now she's a professor at Penn State. Her book "A Hundred Silences" is amaaaazing and you should go buy it.

Gabeba did a bunch of workshops at USU last week before having dinner with 10 aspiring writers/artists from high schools around Cache Valley...

And I was one of those ten! I had a one-on-one conversation with her, and she's really interesting and insightful. Aaand not full of herself.

Which is wonderful.

Later, she did a poetry reading at Sky View - my high school - and a Q and A. The students presented poems and songs they had created in response to "A Hundred Silences."

I'm a poetry n00b - my A.P. English teacher choose me because Gabeba writes about photography.

I'll start reading Wuthering Heights for AP English next week, it sounds like.
Homework for both Thursday night and this weekend in AP Calculus.
Apparently I'll be learning more about baseball than anything in US History.
Chemistry 1010 will be great. I know it.
And I'm not sure about Mandarin Chinese. How well do you learn from a teacher through a TV?

No art class. I just work on my drawings at home. Currently, I only have about 5-10 hours left on a piece originally by *rooze, and I'm only 15 hours in to one by =cookiemonstah.

New clothes for school. So I'll probably be taking some self portraits, just to show them off.

Yesterday's photo shoot with Jessey and Sissy was our best since the end of May.

No subscription right now. But who needs one, besides for fancy journals?

I've been on another vacation.

It wasn't too relaxing, though.

Went backpacking in the Wind Rivers mountains in Wyoming.

On Thursday, we hiked 6 miles in 3 hours with our packs.

Friday was the hardest day of my life. 15 miles in 10 hours. The only way I survived was eating 2 Powerbars, some NoDoz, and lots of Tylenol.

Saturday was a 6 mile hike with light day packs, but the steepest trail eeever. It took us 5 hours.

Sunday, we hiked the 6 miles back to the trailhead in 2 hours.

So 33 miles in four days. I am sooo tired.

Mountain man syndrome? That's when you get used to smelling bad, so you don't notice it.

Ooooh man.

My dad bought a Canon G9 a couple days before we left for the Wind Rivers. It's...absolutely amazing. The best point-and-shoot you could ever IMAGINE.

I really need to get around to editing photos from Colorado, Oregon, and Wyoming now.

But I've also got some drawings that are calling.

...that I like my fish eye photos from Colorado more than the ones from my DSLR. (Except the mountain goat ones, which I have yet to put up.)

I picked up five rolls from that $40 camera yesterday at WalMart. The colors are just b-e-a-u-tiful. One sad thing: a piece of metal inside the camera scratched across nearly every photo. My dad noticed it halfway through our Colorado trip. So I've spend a lot of the past two days editing those lines out in Photoshop after scanning my favorite prints.

I need to have five drawings finished by the end of the summer, or my art teacher - Mrs. B. - will kick my butt. You may think that I'm kidding, buut...

They're supposed to center around a main theme. Mrs. B. said self portraits do well in competitions. Guess I'll go with that. I'm not using any photos I've taken of myself already, though. Definitely not artsy enough. So my dad and I will take some shots in the next couple days, before he leaves for a motorcycle rally in Wyoming.

Brandon - ~standbystatic - is coming down from Pocatello on Tuesday night! He'll be down here for a long while, so I'll get to spend lots of time with my boyfriend! The catch? It's because he can't work on his construction job: he dislocated his shoulder today. A lot. Which is horrible...

Poor kid won't be able to play at Why Sound with his band, Stand In Legend, on Tuesday.

Hmm.

My learner's permit expires on August 20. I don't like driving - I haven't driven for a couple months. But I don't want to take the written test again, so I'm practicing every night this week, and I'll set up my driving test in the next few weeks.

School's out. It's wonderful.

And really, this week has been wonderful too.

Monday was the concert down at Thanksgiving Point. It started three hours late because of the rain, but that's okay, 'cos Tegan and Sara were AMAZING! And Death Cab For Cutie was BEYOND AMAZING! They didn't even allow point-and-shoot cameras inside, but it turned out that I could've easily snuck one in. Sheesh.

We came home with some pretty sexy t-shirts.

On Thursday, a bunch of us went swimming in a canal near the foothills that has like...man made rapids. You just slide along your butt, 'cos the bottom's so slimy. And it's hard to get out, even in the water's only 1 1/2 feet deep or something. That made for some entertaining times. Then we watched a couple episodes of Arrested Development at Cody's house, and made brownies.

Friday, ~standbystatic and I got rained on in Logan Canyon. Soo we saw the new Indiana Jones, which was suuper entertaining.

Yesterday, Jessey, Sissy, and I took pictures out in Providence, in a field near Jessey's sister's house. It's by far one of our best photo shoots. I expect you'll be sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation for those shots! Riiight. Then we sat around and ate Chinese at Jessey's, watching the newest episode of So You Think You Can Dance and the weirdly entertaining anime movie that is Laputa.

Anywho...I have a lot of photos to edit and MP3 CDs to burn. Hope everyone else's summers have been starting off well too.

_{The past few days have been rough: been sick on and off, but mostly disgustingly ill. For serious. This morning, I felt the worst I have the entire break. _{It shouldn't upset me this much. But. ~belle-elphaba has been stealing some of my best photos since October.

Aand. I used to comment some her photos on her old account. So like. I know her. Makes it more disgusting.

But. Yes. It's stupid of her, 'cos I take pictures of friends that are members on here. I have BILLIONS of real-life friends that I've take pictures of, or know those I have photos of, that could vouch for me. I have camera information on my photos, more photos from the same shoots, and earlier post dates. All this if anyone had the balls to question if my work really is mine. She'll have NO defense.

Because I don't think being an a hole counts as an excuse.

First KNOWN case of art theft. And. It's making my physically ill.

Some artists say to not get mad at art thieves. I'm not one of those artists.

I've reported her. *sweet smile*

On a lighter note, I bought a Polaroid Pronto! SX-70 camera on eBay today, and I'll be ordering some expired 600 film from unsaleable.com this week. Excitement!}

I'm really happy with the photos I have. But. I've been up for almost 36 hours now. Soo. I'ma go unpack now and sort photos, and then I'll submit stuff and write a REAL entry about it.

Hokay. Jamboree Music Festival yesterday was FANTABULOUS. Details? Yes.

So Love You Long Time played first. To sum it up...they're psychotic. But in a wonderful way. I TALKED to them! Like. Actual conversations with the guitarist and lead singer. I got autographs. :3 And they're coming to Cache Valley in October. HOLYEXCITEMENT.

A couple hours later, The Aquabats played. How can you NOT love them? I mean...they had seahorse races where small children rode pool toys across the crowd. And they fought pilgrims. Thanksgiving Point has been renamed High Five City. Yaay.

Theen The Format. BESTTHINGEVER. They're absolutely the best band EVER live. EEEVER. AAH. And their lead singer is beautiful. And funny. He'd never used a wireless mic until yesterday, and he said it made him feel like Britney Spears. Or a comedian. Eeeither way. I love them. So. MUCH. I about EXPLODED when they played "On Your Porch". They pretty much played all my favorite songs. D

All the bands were really slow at setting up. So FINALLY at 10:30 or something, Dashboard Confessional played. Can you say "HOLYTALENTEDLEADSINGER"? Only knew three of their songs, though. :/

Only downside was I needed a friggin' special pass to bring a DSLR camera into the Festival. WTC. Needless to say...no picatures.

Anyways. I think it's safe to say Carlie and I had a fantastic time. COMPLETELY fantastic. ZOMG. AAH. I'm sorry, but I'm probably going to be talking about this all week.}

_{So a week ago, my mom noticed a lump on Sassy's - my cat - back leg. A couple days later, it turned into an open wound, so we brought her to the vet's that day. She - the vet - said it was probably a tumor, and we could either go through a bunch of crap and amputate her leg (when she might not even make it through the surgery); put her on pain meds for the rest of her life; or try to treat it with antibiotics, 'cos it MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT just be a fungus.

Good options? Not so much.

Today we got a second opinion, and THAT vet said we should try to treat it with antibiotics, 'cos he thinks it's an abscess. Let's just see if she's improved in 10 ten days doing that. If that doesn't work...we'll have to put her to sleep.

Meanwhile, Sassy is acting more lazy that usual from all the drugs she's on.

She's 11 years old, maybe even 12 - I've grown up with her. I'm just saying...cross your fingers for us that all this turns out all right, neh?

On a lighter note, I'm working on a bunch of drawings of my friends. Sooo. Watch out for those.}

Florida is...completely amazing. The humidity is a bit hell-ish, but other than that...

Touring Kennedy Space Center and watching the shuttle launch was my FAVORITE. Seeing the wildlife, going to Disney's Animal Kingdom, flying on four different planes, and hanging out on the beach was pretty wonderful, too.

Expect an obnoxious amount on photos, both on here and Flickr, over the next few days.}
