Would you believe, we were looking for pr0n for our Sexual Spirituality project and got here almost by mistake?

Anyway, those first months here were wonderful. I was out of work with an arm injury (I had torn my biceps muscle from the bone at my job). I could spend several hours day here commenting on everyone's work, we PM'd a lot of people also. Quite a number of people who are Members in the Outlands Community today met us here at Deviant Art. We have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to DA, and above all to the dozens of wonderful people we've met here. Life would be much different for all of us here in Clifton if we had not come here back in 2005.

Well, it is now 2009. Things have changed. None of us has here the seeming endless hours to stay here as we once did. As I write this, I think that there are something like 520 Deviations for me to look at. Never mind the number of comments, Journals, replies and all of that. I think that we regret that, quite painfully regret that we can do little at this point to be a part of DA. But the Community is a living, growing force for the good, we are now in the world and doing good things, which has been our aim from the very first day we got on line in April 2005. Also, quite a number of you are aware that we lost Old Sparky #9 recently and it is only through the good graces of Jenni Gaseman aka hallucinajen here at DA that we are working with Old Sparky #10. (Thanks to Jenni, Jeff and Brandon on that account)

We lost an immense amount of material when Old Sparky #9 died, at least 35 GB of music, thousands of pictures and our records of IM conversations we've had, including those wherein people took the Learn Telepathy Quickly exercise. We were going to start backing everything up the week that this happened - I have an 120 GB external hard drive for just that purpose - only the combined problems of a dying hard drive and CPU killed Sparky #9 very suddenly. We have a local Associate of the OC who is supposed to to the "freeze the hard drive" trick in an effort to get off whatever files he can, but as of this writing, that's still future. But it will happen and if anyone can do it, he can.

So yes, I am leading up to something. Over the next while we will be downloading all of the art we've posted here since about the beginning of 2007, simply because we're not sure what we do have backed up on CDs. Once that's done we'll be deleting a lot of our art and cutting back our appearances here at DA, so that by the time our subscription runs out (I think in 2 months) we'll be done. We will visit occasionally but I do mean, occasionally. But I have to say, it has been an immense joy in meeting and knowing all of you, and you KNOW how to contact us:

email: outlands.community@gmail.com

MSN IM: stromoondaglo@hotmail.com

website: [link]

YouTube:
[link]

Keep in mind, we'll be here a while longer, but not all that actively. We already had a considerable collection, many CDs worth of music that we'd uploaded in 2005 and 2006. Most of this music was stuff with which we were familiar, you know, stuff we liked. And we do have different tastes in music in some ways. One in particular was an old Van Morrison song, "Brown Eyed Girl." I never liked him. The first time that Sara heard the song she fell in love with it. So somewhere in our collection is "Brown Eyed Girl." It pays to be open-minded, and open-eared as well: now I know why she likes it, and it gets heard.

However, like many of the things that we do, the music quest has gotten to be something of an obsession, and earlier this evening we decided to put the brakes on. We've been getting anywhere from 15 to 50 new songs a day, mostly from YouTube videos. (Ask me how and I'll tell you) Since the quality of the music on the Tube is sometimes miserable, we use the Audacity sound editor to clean them up. Well, actually, she does most of the editing, she has perfect hearing and I'm deaf in one ear. But obsessions quickly turn into little demons and then the obsession is no longer fun, it becomes a chore; and so we've declared a moratorium of sorts. Btw this doesn't explain our lack of presence here at DA, it's just that we are DA'd out, and following the notion that if it's not fun, don't do it, we've been here minimally - lots of the people we know here have been in hibernation.

So I was outside with her, I was having a smoke (I don't smoke in the house anymore, I'm outnumbered two non-smokers to one) and I got to thinking about modern-day music, and then about music over the course of human history. It seems that the Neanderthals had flutes and drums, and so it has been up until the present day. The common view is that our cave-dwelling ancestors played music on percussion instruments, flutes and harps of various kinds for shamanic or ritual purposes, and while this may be so, I have a notion that people then played - and listened to - music simply because they enjoyed it.

As our cultures evolved several thousand years ago, it is obvious that there were indeed two kinds of music, that used for what may be loosely termed "spiritual purposes" and that which was to be enjoyed. Scholars of ancient Greek and Latin culture have worked for a very long time in translating ancient song-texts into modern languages, and usually - perhaps due to a lack of imagination on the part of many of these scholars - these song-texts are usually classed as "hymns and sacred songs" and "drinking songs." Which is fine; if you've ever been to a karaoke bar (rolls eyes) and gotten a little loaded, you'll be singing along with the drunk on stage. But really, using medieval Europe as an example (and this happened in Asian cultures as well), there were many wandering musicians who would enter a town and play their songs and strut their stuff. If they were liked they got some coin and maybe some food and lodging. If not, they moved on. What were they singing? Songs of their own device, and often times, songs that were known throughout the region.

There was no RIAA or other musical agency with legal clout (other than the attempt made by various court musicians over the centuries to make music the exclusive preserve of the queen/king) that kept people from enjoying a musical performance. If you think about it, a musician entering a town might play before as many as 200 people, but out of them all, perhaps ten might toss him or her some coins, and perhaps one generous soul might offer food and/or lodging. The rest of the townsfolk got free music, with no download fee and no DRM. This is happening again.

I think everyone will agree that paying $400 US / 185 EU to hear Ozzie, P Diddy, or any other (very famous) pop group is a bit much. And the cost of buying CDs (which are disappearing anyway), or downloading songs from IT...

Right here, right now. We don't have the past and we do not have the future.

When I say that we do not have the past, I mean that we do not really have our own pasts. We have memories of the past. These memories are among the most profound illusions under which we live. There is a short film clip of a Vietnamese colonel executing a Viet Cong guerilla soldier which you may have seen: the colonel puts a .38 calibre pistol to the Cong's temple and pulls the trigger. The soldier, dressed in rags, grimaces and falls to the ground. Yet despite this film clip, the colonel's memory of this execution is not the reality of what happened that day. As for the Cong soldier, his memory - his past, present and future were drastically altered in that moment. Anyone who has done historical research on any era, any individual, will tell you how they cannot get a really "true picture" of what happened. The assassination of President John Kennedy is a sterling example; for decades now, there have been any number of theories, many of them filled with ideas of a vast conspiracy, that tell that Kennedy's death is as of yet unsatisfactorily unexplained.

As for the future, we simply do not know what the next few moments, the next day or month holds for us. We may have intricate plans of what we will be doing in the days ahead - going to school, going on a vacation, getting a dreamed-for job, finding the woman or man of your dreams. But no matter how detailed our plans, no matter how vivid we see the coming future, we simply do not know what shall transpire simply because it is not here yet. Even if we humans were given some sort of certainty that a thing would happen in our lives, we still would not know or have to moment-to-moment details, the experiences of that future event. In a way, our plans for the future and all of the things which we imagine about our lives ahead, are at best grandiose wishes.

This is not meant to denigrate hopes and wishes and plans to make our lives better. The poet and artist Wiliam Blake was often quoted as saying things like "What was once but Imagin'd, Now is." I am not saying that we should never think about the future. I am not saying that we should never plan for the future. But it is important to keep the future in a realistic place. Jesus is quoted as saying, "Take you therefore no thought for tomorrow, for the evils of today are more than sufficient for you." (my translation) What he is saying here is to focus on the problems of right now, worry if you must, right now - but don't worry too far into the future. You plan the future, even from an awful present, in various increments.

Say that you've lost your job. If you have an imagination like mine you will be running rampant with fearful thoughts of being evicted (I have been evicted), of being homeless (I have been homeless for two very brief periods in my life), of not having anything to eat (this also has happened) or of doing something illegal to support yourself (been there done that too). However, there are things that can be done every day: ask friends and family if they know of job openings anywhere; look in newspaper ads and on the Internet for offers of employment; ask you state's unemployment services to help you find work, and perhaps - just perhaps - think of something new job-wise. I've "started over" a few times in my life; ough at first but I've always done well at whatever I've tried. But the point here is, there is only so much that you can do in one day - when you get to that point, kick back, chill out, you've really done all that you can for that day. The evils of today are sufficient for you.

We all of us are addicted in some degree, I think, to the past and to the future at the expense of today. This is normal, it's how we are. You may be minding your own business and a happy memory will bubble up out of you and you'll be transfixed for a while, then go on to savor it. Or perhaps you've got your plans and hopes for the day...

A story, a biography, the lives we lived as we got to today and are hopefully continuing into tomorrow and the next day. Our past affects our present; that is one of the irreducible facts of being human. Our past includes those who raised us (parents and/or guardians), our immediate families the schools which we attended and the teachers and students at these places. In the larger world of our lives, we all of us have lived through the changes in our nation's governments and in the world. I am pointing out the obvious. Why?

We like to live as though we were created a little while ago. I'm not saying that we all live that way, but we have a predilection for it. The past, our past, is smoothed over and forgotten for a little while. This is as far from reality as we can get. It doesn't take long for the past to exert its influence on us once again. Yet the past in many instances is a baleful thing, casing a dark shadow on our lives. In my day most kids growing up had people whom they thought were good parents overseeing their lives. I was one of them. But as time passed and the parochial ideas of what made good parenting began to be exposed to the light of reason and healthy psychological insight, it turned out that many of us had......less than ideal parents, shall we say. This has continued up until the present time.

When I was in my thirties I began to see how my parents had shaped my life in numerous ways, most of them self-serving and destructive. I did not at that time see myself as continuing the very things which they did. However I idly leafed through a book in the psychology section of a local bookstore one night; its title, "For Your Own Good," by psychoanalyst Alice Miller, illustrated how deep the roots of bad child-rearing went in European culture. I bought the book and read it several times; she was describing me, my life my parents. My initial reaction was anger at my parents, rage at how they had abused my and had twisted my life. They were both elderly; my father was failing rapidly, subject then to psychotic episodes that can come with what was once called "senile dementia." My mother seemed to be holding her own mentally but steadfastly refused to believed that she had beaten me many times when I was a little kid. She got me to the point where I began asking the few remaining witnesses to my childhood - elderly neighbors and relatives - what they recalled of how my parents treated me, and the sad and grisly fact was, they most certainly had used brute force to enforce their ideas of discipline. I had to accept that I could get no response, no apology from either of them. Life's a bitch, hmmm? Well, I noticed that even though I was approaching my fortieth birthday, my father still called me "kid" and my mother referred to me as her "little boy." They didn't recognize me as an adult. I glommed onto that; only, my father had deteriorated to the point where he couldn't speak much. My mother would coyly smile and insist, "But you ARE my little boy." Those were the very last words I ever heard her speak. Oh well: they both died without recognizing me as an adult. Life's really a bitch, hmmm?

Now, I should give them credit for several good things which they passed on to me. My mother was an avid reader and could quote the Bible, Shakespeare, Sigmund Freud, Robert Burns, William Wordsworth and others from memory. She helped me to learn how to read when I was three. My father was an inveterate builder and tinkerer, and could take the scrappiest wood and make something at once utilitarian and cool-looking from it, and I was allowed to build an intricate platform in the apple tree in our back yard, starting from about the time I was nine. I just did what he would do: looked at the branches, intuitively figured out what wood was needed where, and cut it and nailed it in place. I was bought as many books as I asked for, and had a telescope and microscope by the...

No, I wasn't with him at any time when he was alive, but I was witness to who he was and what he did by way of a media that in the 1960s was more honest than anything you'll see today. Martin Luther King was one of the heroes of America, possibly the last we've seen here for a long time. And that there is a holiday in memory of the man, and more importantly of his accomplishments is scarce justice to his life.

I grew up in a blue-collar town, mostly white families, the men having factory jobs like my father. At the time it was called East Paterson, now it's Elmwood Park, a reflection of the gentrification which took place as white-collar families moved in and squeezed the workers into the margins as the years went by. East Paterson lay directly across the Passaic River from the much larger city of Paterson. In the 1950s Paterson was rapidly turning into a huge ghetto. For nearly 80 years, it was largely a blue-collar town also, being the home of numerous silk and cotton mills. The workers in these mills were mostly Black and Italian. They did not make great wages, but most of them compensated by working 16 hours a day for six days a week. One of the things shared by both the Black and Italian families as that they were often large; there might be 12, 16 or even 20 children living within one home. But starting in the 1940s, the mill owners started moving their operations elsewhere. Many of them went down into the American south, the "Dixie" states where labor was much cheaper. In practical terms, what that meant was that there were huge numbers of black families in the south, the men of whom were willing to work for as little as one-tenth of the wages gotten in the North. As the mills closed, there were large numbers of men and women who were unemployed. A small number of the men in both groups made money by any means necessary and it was at this point that I entered the picture, so to speak.

I knew that if I looked I could find people selling marijuana. I knew that it was sold in the ghettos of Paterson, and I left the comfort of my lily-white blue-collar neighborhood and took a bus into the heart of where the action was. Here I was peculiarly fortunate in that neither of my parents were overtly prejudiced. I never heard the "N-word" fall from either of their lips. They never referred to Blacks as "those people;" if they were mentioned at all, it was with the then-respectful word "Negro." I was also fortunate in another way. I had been taught since I was very small, that if someone looked you in the eye, you looked back, smiled and said something like, "Hi, how are you?" So here I am, I am 14 years old and wandering around one of the hoods. I had never seen such desolation, such awful and real evidence that people had been abandoned by our country and left to find there own way without food, money or adequate housing. I did catch a lot of eyes and to all I looked back with a grin and said variants of what I had been taught. Most of the time the people were shocked at first, then smiled back and said something like, "hey, I'm just fine, how's it on you?"
Eventually I drew the attention of one man who asked me just what da fuck I was doing there and I told him that I was on a mission to find me some marijuana. He wigged and almost dragged me to a car and had me sit in the back. His brother was behind the wheel and couldn't quite believe my story - until I produced the $20 needed to make a transaction. Business complete, I was told to never ever come back again. Of course, I kept coming back and earned the nickname of "Stoopid White Boy," which I took with my then-good nature. I should make clear that I was NOT liked, I was at best tolerated by most of these folks. One of them spelled it out to me: "Yeah, you go home to your father's nice little house, you're not Robin Hood, you don't get hurt because you buy stuff and you're polite, but you don't know what it's like here." I was cursed at a few times. One day I made a trip to do busines...

Sara and I had been editing music for something like 14 hours and we needed a break, so we decided to take a quiet trip to the Outlands to just relax in the solar wind. Roland asked if there was anything that he could do and I suggested that he use my hands and eyes and go over incoming e-mail. We have Gmail and its IM, and one of our Associates popped up out of the blue. The kid didn't know what to make of it and the Associate started talking about the war in Palestine.

Roland has been with us for several years now, I've posted the occasional Dev of him here. But I've not talked about him much, other than that he's quite the passionate guy. But also very shy and very private. Soooo, let me tell a little bit about him. He came from France with the first of the Crusades; his mother was what was euphemistically called a "camp follower" and Roland was born to her along the way. Unlike many such children he didn't die on the voyage. When they reached Jerusalem his mother gave him to the care of a huge hunchback named Clunn, who happened to be the weapons-master for the Christian troops occupying the city. Clunn looked after Roland for the whole of their stay in Jerusalem. I don't have clear details on what happened to end this because neither Clunn nor Roland know; all that they knew was that they were under attack and they were sequestered in a tower somewhere in the city. The tower was torched and both of them died in the blaze. Roland is still suffering PTSD from this and any mention of war will set him off.

So we had to spend several hours taking with him, and we got him to express a little of the rage that underlies much PTSD. He got right to the point, too. "They've been fighting over that place for thousands of years. It's done nothing." He actually said a lot more, but It's the last thing that he said here: "It's done nothing." Nothing, except for the continued killing of people of on all sides. From here? Anyone who raises a weapon in Palestine is serving their own bloodlust and are barbarian bastards. Period.

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE (The Space Terminal: [link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND: [link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:[link]

All of my obnoxious and mostly ancient relatives were at our home for the day. At that time I knew it as "Turkey Day," and really was given no clue as to what "Thanksgiving" was about. We were told stories in school about a group of people whom I misidentified as "Pildrums" who had dinner with a bunch of Indians, but the fact that that was some 330 years previous was not at all made clear to me.

What was clear was that the men would gather 'round the radio to listen to the football game, while the older women would roundly berate the younger women for their shortcomings as wives and mothers. My various cousins and I made up "the kids." At some point we would be called to the table, where there were.....foods. Some were good. Some were not. My one uncle would slur through grace, having been quietly nipping at a pocket flask of aged Scotch since some time before breakfast. At this particular dinner, my one aunt, not known for her sobriety, suggested quietly that we kids be given a taste of the wine that the adults were having with the meal. She was met with howls of protest from my one teetotalling aunt, which prompted Aunt # 1 to get up and get us each glasses of the dark purple fluid. We were each told to sip it, but all of us being kids, it was gone in a flash. In five minutes I felt.....GOOD! and asked for more. I was told: NO MORE. So after dinner, in one of the rare cooperative maneouvers I ever completed with my older brother and my cousins, we got our hands on the wine bottle and finished the job. We fell asleep shortly thereafter, probably to the delight of the mass of adults present. We actually got away with it, too; my mother blamed my grandmother for the missing wine. Grandma, something of a closet lush, denied it heartily and suggested that my father was the culprit, but my mother knew that my father's taste ran to Canadian Club and not Manischewitz wine.

But the stage had been set. It did not occur to me often, but once in a blue when I was certain that my behavior would not be monitored closely the last couple of hours before bedtime, I would sneak a glass of vodka or rum or whiskey for myself, enjoy a dizzy 20 or 30 minutes and then pass out. This kept up, and when it was noticed that the bottles were empty, my father took the heat, then my older brother. I was smart enough not to do this but three or four times a year.

By the time I was fifteen I had gotten some costly fake ID and would buy myself a bottle of rum or gin. This was an occasional offset to my preoccupation with weed and LSD. It seemed like every once in a while, I NEEDED to get good and drunk. And I didn't get caught until I was seventeen. I was at a cousin's wedding and was sitting with cousins and cousin's friends and slamming down straight rum with no effects. I happened to look a lot older than I was and the bartender at the reception hadn't even thought to ask me for ID. However, older relatives who had nothing better to do than watch us young 'uns reported to my parents that I was working on my seventh water glass of rum; and when approached by my father, I looked up at him and said, "Yeah, it's rum. I don't like it with ice or soda." Good old Pop became Sherlock Homes for a moment, deducing at long last where all of the booze had gone since I was eight or nine. Fixing blazing red eyes on me, he hissed, "The booze at home better never go down again!" This I took to heart.

But when 1968 came, the seemingly endless supply of marijuana and LSD dried up. I fell back on drinking and drinking more. I was twenty and could easily get liquor in nearby New York City, where the drinking age was eighteen. Or, I could bring my girl to a bar in the city, which I often did. In that bekn...

Soo, with my apologies, Sara's song list follows my tale ~ ~

Couple of nights ago I was on my job, which is the cleaning of mall parking lots with a small streetsweeper, something I have been doing for almost 20 years now. As anyone who works the overnight doing any kind of driving knows, convenience stores such as 7-11, QuickChek and WaWa are an essential part of the night, providing coffee and semi-edible food.

I stopped at one of these places on New Years' Eve at about midnight. The clerk here is Malaysian and is gay. He's cute and friendly. I wished him a happy new year and asked him what he was doing working? "You should be out dancing!" He laughed and said that come Friday he'd be out making up for tonight's loss. I blew him a kiss and left.

Right behind me as I walked out the door was a punky looking guy in his early 20's. "Hey!," he yells, "what, are you a faggot?" I turned around and said, "No, I happen to be bisexual. I like everybody." After a very short pause I added, "Except for you." He grew red in the face and told me he was going to kick my ass. I told him to make his move. He repeated it, saying that faggots should all be killed. I made the offer again - "Make your move" and he got louder. I told him he was a chickenshit and turned my back on him, walking to my sweeper. He stood there yelling at me and calling me all kinds of names; I told him that I didn't know his mother. He was still yelling as I drove away, flipping him the bird. I thought better of it and went back to the store, I didn't want my cute friend dealing with anything violent. The guy had left and I went into the store, telling the clerk about what happened. The guy laughed and said that this very same bigot had tried to beat him up, only he came to learn that my Malaysian friend had been taught kung-fu as a small boy. He went on to relate that it only took ten seconds to subdue him.

It's 2009. And really? If it were 1999 or 1989, this bigotry, this prejudice, this pathological and psychotic hatred of those against anyone who is aroused and finds sexual, emotional and spiritual gratification with members of the own gender should have ended decades ago. Obviously it hasn't. The reasons are not hard to find. It all stems from certain passages in the Bible. "You shall not lie with another man as you would with a woman, it is an abomination to the LORD." This is Leviticus 18:23 (my translation). It was written when the nascent Israelite peoples were nomads, travelling through lands that were polytheistic and all of which were open to any kind of sexual experience - sexuality was viewed as a doorway to experiencing the divine.

Had the Israelite people of that day maintained their ethnic purity it certainly would be a stark contrast to the largely Semitic people surrounding them. But at some time between the 7th and 5th centuries BCE the whole area of Palestine was invaded by invaders from the north, a branch of the Indo-Aryan group known as the Hittites. This particular group, the Luwians, installed themselves as the overseers of the Israelite religion. They became the "tribe of Levi." (Notice the painful similarity between "Luwi" and "Levi") As such they did nothing and bled the rest of the Israelites for 10% of everything that they had. They also imposed a number of non-Semitic laws on them, among which was this prohibition against same-sex relationships.

In contrast to this, the other Semitic peoples in the area - Elamites, Babylonians, Amorites, Assyrians, Ugariti and far to the south, the Arabic peoples - all had temples wherein one could have intimate relationships with priests and priestesses, the idea being that such intimacy was a union with the divine. One excavation in the early part of the 20th century at the site of ancient Beth-Shan disclosed a number of explicit love-songs from men to men. The publication of these texts were a...

Some of you are new here. Anyway....

The story behind this is told in the description of the piece. For the last few days I've had a very strong sublunar urge to see this person physically, like, in the flesh. (As she's a mortal person, not too hard....except she lives far away) Yesterday we got together for a couple of hours and we traded news about those whom we know mutually. This included one brave tough woman who had lived with AIDS for over 20 years. Right, she was one of them, had the immortality gene. Except, painful to tell, the virus finally developed a virulent strain of itself that her immune system could not defeat and about three weeks ago she entered Sara's world. We both of us experienced her hours after she'd died, was quite moving to talk like this for the first time in over 20 years.

Came time to go. I was outside getting ready to get into my car and she and I hugged. I said, "I love you." She replied, "I love you too. From the heart." I concluded with, "That's how it should be then. Took me a while to understand that."

I would guess that there is a certain amount of logic and a certain amount of passion missing from this tale. I would close by saying that this is long unfinished business - finished.

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE (The Space Terminal: [link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND: [link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:[link]

The last three people who took the exercise with us (me on the IM) scored 56%, 63% and an off-the-chart 93% respectively. It's not us, it's the people who are doing the exercise with us. I'm not going to push it again, we've talked about it quite a bit here, but if you want to try it - it's fun - add us to your MSN / Hotmail IM, our addy is stromoondaglo@hotmail.com for that. (If you want to e-mail us that's a different address altogether, outlands.community@gmail.com) But since we posted our "Learn Telepathy" video at YouTube we've had a lot of people drop in out of the blue asking about it.

I would like to crow about it a bit more, though. We do it for free - while there are plenty of rip-off artists that'll charge you your firstborn to maybe maybe not learn telepathy with them. And we always get positive results - the lowest score that anyone had was 34%, which is still astronomically over the 25% you'd get by chance. (btw what I am talking about is: you get on the IM with me and I ask you 10 20 questions about what is going on here; you answer with the very first thing that pops into your head and usually, it'll be the right answer)

Okay, nuf about that. We started Internet housecleaning and today we got to work on our YouTube, deleted a bunch of vids that no-one was watching and a bunch more of Favorites that we wondered why we faved them in the first place. We have a bunch of blogs that we signed on for over the last 2 years and we never use them, so they are gonna go also. We'll be keepin our two Xangas and two MySpaces, our phlogs and Blogger spots, but everything else will go. We discussed tossing our early work here at DA, but with Old Sparky's penchant for going belly-up we decided to use our stuff here at DA as an Internet archive. (Our other one is at our WebShots account)(Webshots was around before Flickr got big and we decided to stay with them)

Me personally I am trying to quit smoking again, this time because my daughter is getting sick by the smell of smoke coming from my room. I tried all kindsa ways to seal of the room and use air filters and stiff but it just doesn't work, our apartment is to old and full of cracks and air-leaks. Wish me luck on that one, nicotine has been a lifelong tranquilizer for me.

Sara Jane is STILL working on her CD Night Kite, she keeps adding tunes to it, so that by now it has enough to fill three discs. If you want some samples please e-mail her (not me) at the Gmail address above. Some of it is meditative, some of it is just plain weird, but it's all great stuff.

......and that is the news from Clifton today. Have a great week.

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE (The Space Terminal: [link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND: [link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:[link]

So before I get going on the subject at hand I should tell a little bit about the Outlands Community, how we got started and all.

In 2004 there was a group of roughly twelve of us, one mortal and the rest ethereal beings here, I being the living person and people like Sara, Roland, Perry, Terrence, Ling, Gwenny and Dione being some of the ethereals. Once or twice a year we would make a spiritual journey to a place we called the "outlands." Anyone who has been out-of-body knows whereof I speak, it's a kind of one-dimensional backdrop (think "programmable matter" - oh yeh, Google that phrase if you'd like a treat - read the wiki that comes up first) to where you are and what you are doing. If you need a visual reference, check out some of our art from the last year, some pieces are visual referents to what we saw/experienced on our journeys. One night in late 2004 we were on just such a journey and Terrence said off-hand, "You know, we're a community now, we're no longer strangers." We nodded in agreement and he went on to say, "We're the Outlands Community." The name stuck. Some short while later on another journey we were sitting n a circle in my room when Llam, Dioth and the other devas glid into the room and announced that they were there to join us and if possible, guide us.

In April 2005 we got on line - this was my first time ever using a computer, thank you! - and like many folks wound up at MySpace. MySpace and a bunch of blogs accounted for our presence on the Internet for a long time. We came here in November of that year. Llam had been after me for over a year to get a website up and running and kept smiling and saying, "we'll have a website by the end of 2005." It could not have been cut any closer: at 11:50 PM in December 31 2005 I found that our current host, Mosaic Globe, was offering free websites because they were in beta testing and need the feedback of all kinds of people. At 11:59 PM we had the first page up. We actually got two of them , the second one being Skyland.

Since that time we have had people from Deviant Art, MySpace and other places where we're at join the OC. A few have wandered in from YouTube and from our website. Today we have something like 50 mortal Members worldwide, and about the same number of Associates. (A Member has joined; an Associate has decided against joining - which is fine, we don't push it)

This brings us to today. We are not necessarily the originators of them, but there are other "Communities" now. One was in existence looong before we ever got near a computer. But there are distinct groups or communities in Texas (USA), Alberta (Canada), Florida (USA) and in the UK. Long ago Llam had said that one of our goals should be to contact "the others." I think that we've succeeded!

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE (The Space Terminal: [link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND: [link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:[link]

Over the last eight years it has deepened into a peculiar anguish that only those who have lived under the imperialist and fascist designs of a person like George W. Bush might comprehend. We are not supposed to go about waging war for little or no reason. We are not supposed to exploit the people of poor nations to feed our ever-growing lust for Things. We are not supposed to be systematically engaged in destroying the environment of the only planet that we have. We are America and we have gone seriously astray.

I didn't always feel this way. As a little kid I was taught and I believed that my country, the United States of America, was a great nation and a beacon of hope and freedom for the rest of the world. While my heart did not skip a beat when I saw our flag, I loved the loud colors and its bizarre design, and I identified with it. I learned early that the things we'd been raised on - Communism bad, Capitalism good - wasn't necessarily so in every instance. In the 1950's I watched on TV as civil rights workers, many times lead by Dr. Martin Luther King, were attacked by police with German Shepherds and hosed with fire hoses. Some of these people, blacks, whites and Asians had banded together to end racial segregation as it was practiced in the southern states of America. The didn't fight; they practiced a form of Hindu spiritualism called "satyagriyha," which became mistranslated as "non-violent resistance." They learned this from Dr. King, who in turn learned it form the teachings and ideals of Mohandas Kanada Gandhi. The world watched, appalled, as people were beaten, lynched, hosed, shot and bombed. Eventually, segregation officially end. A very rich man was elected president: John Kennedy. For a long time it was cool to bash Kennedy for his supposed dalliances with Marilyn Monroe and other famous women of beauty. To his discredit, largely fueled by amphetamine, he almost started World War III with the Soviet Union; but the then-Soviet leader, Nikita Khruschev, advised by philosopher Bertrand Russell, backed away from a nuclear confrontation with the US. It cost him his job and his career. But Kennedy did much good as well. In the three short years of his administration, women were able to at least seek abortions without fear of legal penalties. Discrimination based upon race, creed or color ended - legally at least - during Kennedy's term. Affordable medical care for the elderly was established, first with Medicare, then Medicaid. It was during this time that the Peace Corps was established, headed up by an in-law of the president, Sargent Shriver. A bullet to the head - perhaps several - ended all of that on November 23, 1963. That was the day that my country died.

Since then there have been liars, warmongers and lunatics sitting in the White House. But even among them they did some good. Johnson pushed our space program forward. Nixon opened up trade with China. Jimmy Carter reached to everyone across the world, with the vision that there was enough food, clean water, medical care and housing for every last person on the planet. Ronald Reagan, while he can be rightfully chastised for any number of acts of lunacy, at least agreed to sign treaties like START, which would begin to scale back the world's nuclear stockpiles. While much wrongdoing was committed by George Bush Senior, he at least recognized that warring with Iraq or Iran would be utter foolishness, and he supported those nations which opted to end their Soviet-style governments for some form of capitalistic democracy: Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Mongolia. Bill Clinton recognized the growing threat of extremist terror groups throughout the world and pushed in vain to establish a network to protect ourselves from them. Then came George W. Bush, about whom I can say nothing good. Nothing.

I do not trust politicians any longer. I do not trust Barack Obama. But I certainly didn't think that having John McCain as our next...

Thank you for getting to work on this so quickly.

ROY: I should be thanking you. But, who's first?

LLAM: Would you mind that I began? You've not seen me upset before.

ROY: Yeah, go ahead. I haven't.

LLAM: I've come to a realization about my feelings.....my feelings about mortal humans and we devas. I have come to realize just how much we, or at least I, have short-changed you all, at least as far as our attitude goes.

ROY: Okay.

LLAM: To start, to start....I will never die. As far as I know, I will never die. Wait, wait. I have never been physically embodied. Instead all that I can say is that I've witnessed so many mortal human beings live and die. I see you live, grow old, and usually with great fear, you pass into the unobstructed universe, the unobstructed life. Minus your body. In your lives, all of the lives which I've witnessed, I've seen so many of you who have suffered. (pauses)

ROY: Take your time, bro.

LLAM: I've seen your wars. How you are gradually destroying your world. How one small group of you do their best to control a much larger group.....of you. The famine and the pestilence. Throughout all of it I have always maintained a kind of serenity because of my experience of my existence as an ethereal being.

ROY: Whoa, whoa, I've learned from that serenity.

LLAM: I think perhaps you may have learned from the serenity of Sara Jane, from Roland, from all of those you love. I don't think you've learned from mine. You've learned a serenity, yes, a peace, a lack of fear, whatever you wish to call it. But I sincerely doubt that you have learned it from me.

ROY: Perhaps I've never thought about it. But why do not accept that I feel I've learned it from you?

LLAM: I see that I have been too serene? I need to explain. I have been smug. I've just waited for every human with whom I've had to do to come to the realization that the unobstructed life is a wonderful life.

ROY: But Llam, my experiences have shown that it really is a wonderful life.

LLAM: (Looks down for a moment, then directly at Roy) You didn't always think so.

ROY: Well, of course not, I thought I was going to go to hell, I mean, I believed that no matter what I did I was gonna fry forever.

LLAM: That is kind of peripheral to what I'm thinking. Last night you and Sara Jane were talking about the first time that you died. And you told her how you felt, and for a moment you re-experienced that time. I felt what you felt, that awful sense of loss, your sorrow. I have never felt that before. I never knew how....tied you all are to your experience of being an embodied being, and how at its end you so often realize how precious it was. (bows head)

ROY: Oh, Llam. (holds him) Llam. That time. That time, when I died, I was totally lost. Wasn't fun. (steps back, looks at Llam) We all have that experience though, don't we?

LLAM: (quietly) Yeah.

ROY: There was no Llam there then. No Sara Jane. I had Stro, I had Mauthara but I thought that they were aspects of my own personality, I didn't know, I didn't think that they were real people in their own right. I was alone, really alone.

LLAM: Would you tell the story now? Please?

ROY: Would it help?

LLAM: If you can feel it as you did last night, it would help.

ROY: I've done what is call "abreacting" those emotions. They're still there, just as powerful as the first time, but they've lost most of their impact on me to the point where I don't, I'm not affected, or disturbed by them to the point where I'm panic-stricken as I was that evening. So I can tell it while feeling it, yeah. But I'm not as f...

What? You don't know where our website is? Sisters and brothers, look ye to the link at the bottom of the page!

We eliminated all of the picture galleries, and they will eventually resurface at our WebShots account. It costs nothing to join, we don't ask for donations or dues, and we don't market any hats, teeshirts, CDs or DVDs or blow-up dolls. All you have to do is ask by PMing us here or emailing us and we'll make you a Member. As a Member you'll get yer pitcher on our Members' Pictures page, and we'll be rebuilding our links page to where everyone is on the Internet, so you'll get that also.

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE (The Space Terminal: [link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND: [link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:[link]

Maybe some bitching and moaning while I'm at it. I used to live by the maxim that "he who complains the most lives longest" but in the long run you just may live longer but no-one will wanna listen after a while, so it's easier to do something about the shit that bothers you. I read in one of Scott M. Peck's books that laziness is what evil really is. Personally I think Peck is a sleaze major but the idea is sound.

So now that I'm back I'm finding that this job of mine, which two years ago I thought was such a liberation, is turning rapidly into a prison, so I will be looking for work, although what I'll find at my age is open to question. Wish me luck on that one!

Elsewhere in the news I am working (slowly) on a piece with Yvgeny Porchik about the nature of reality, this at the behest of Llam; and I will be working on turning an old typewritten essay that I finished in 19965, the culmination of my 25 years of (amateur) research into the life of Jesus, into an .rtf file and will post in it here one of these days.

Life here at Outlands home is definitely different than it was three years ago, quite a number of our ethereal members are abroad with other mortal members or working on various projects. Irlene Davis and the Dolphin girls (Irlene, Eva and Connie) are nowtwo groups, Eva and Connie are in the Sargasso Sea studying life there while Irlene and Hurrain are stil with the dolphin pod in the south Pacific. Ling, Gwenny and SonShon are living with Anwarii in the UK, while Kebloth is with Euterpe Jones in Vancouver. I love it!

Back in May we had announced out intention of creating an "adult art" website which would feature manipulations of people in intimate poses. While that hasn't gotten very far it is still on the "things to do" list, only after some conversations with those here and some other mortal members of the Community we may make it into an actual online art community, kind of like a DA with the kind of pictures that you just cannot post here at Deviant Art. If you're new to this idea (the original was posted on May 3 of this year) I am NOT talking about porn pictures, the kind of thing you'd see in Hustler magazine. There CAN be great beauty in pictures of people doing sexually intimate things with each other, only I've rarely seen it online. There are also licensing problems with some of the photos that we have used in our archive, but our attempts to contact the (largely Russian) folks who post them on their porn sites have gotten NO response. We get the ones which we have used from MyUseNet.net for like $13 US a month.....but haven't for the last two months because of the economic crunch caused by the manufactured fuel shortage worldwide.

As for the upcoming presidential elections in America, I can put it in one word: JOKE. Obama? McCain? Either way America is doomed. One of the most horrifying things that I have had happen as of late was on my train ride home. Two young men in their 20's were in the lounge car across from me and were discussing politics. The one thought McCain would make a splendid president, the other thought W was doing as wonderful job in protecting the freedom of the world and then he proceeded to quote Bill O'Reilly in support of what he felt.

To close this out I have largely centered on moving to Amsterdam in 2010 but Llam suggested I check out Nicaragua or one of the other Central American countries where the government is somewhat stable. Nicaragua has a Marxist government under president Daniel Saavedra Ortega and he has resisted all attempts of assassination by the CIA and other fascist groups. Definitely worth checking out!

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE (The Space Terminal: [link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND: [link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:[link]

I realize that many of you endure this kind of thing to get about in long distance traveling but for me it was something of an enduro. Still, our trip to Florida was well worth it even though way too many things went 180 degrees wrong.

Briefly put the bad stuff included being stranded there on Friday when Amtrak (the railroad which brought us there) told me as I was about to get on the train home that it was only going about 350 miles north due to hurricane Hanna, which was expected to hit land and wreak havoc for most of the train's route. I was able to get some money wired to me from my boss and get a motel room and on Sunday caught the next train north. The other piss and moan that I have is that Florida's transportation system is so disorganized that I could not find an easy way to get from Hollywood Florida to where Jackie Tennant lives some 90 miles away in Stuart. With both she and I combing bus and train schedules for hours, the best that could be done was a journey involving nine (9) buses and six (6) hours, with no way back after 10 PM. Is this any way to run a busline?

However our visit with Dori was fantastic. She was gracious and in Sara's words, even prettier in person than she is in photos. We talked of many spiritual things for hours and we got to meet the angels which live with her. We were also reunited with Yvgeny Porchik, who is an ethereal person who initially lived with us here at Outlands Home in Clifton but asked to move in with her a couple of years ago. At that time he had long flowing hair and was quite effeminate, but we found him with a buzzcut and quite well-muscled. He's our expert at quantum physics and has been enjoying the peace of Angel Cove since he moved. (Here in Clifton it can get quite crazy)

Two other things emerged from this trip. Number one is, I told Llam that I want a motorcycle. Any long-distance traveling I do from now on will be done by two wheels. Second, it became obvious that I should be doing the Outlands Community full-time and not just when I have a few hours when I'm not working, so I tossed that into Llam's lap as well. For those of you unfamiliar with how we operate, I don't just sit on my duff and wait for the motorcycle and money to magically appear, there are a number of things that I must do, but it will come. And when it does, I am going back on the road again.

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE (The Space Terminal: [link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND: [link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:[link]

For those of you who don't know about us, she's a spirit and she's my wife. Somewhere in the depths of this DA Journal of ours, or perhaps as a Text Deviation, is the story of how it took eighteen very long years to find each other.
Initially she was the one who was thanking me and making me feel good because I was the first mortal person in hundreds of years who was curious about her life as a mortal person, and what she had been doing since her death. I taught her how to read and write, and when we had the music studio in the Paterson warehouse where I lived in the late 1990's, she quickly mastered all of the analog and digital devices I had for modifying and recording music. She became a producer par excellence (and still is) But I came with problems. I was suicidally depressed and subject to rage fits, and was horribly self-centered. But she loved me and made me laugh, made me see that I took the wrong things way too seriously. From her I learned in my heart that there were millions of others in a much worse place than I was or ever would be and I began to give. This are simple words to tell a simple story, but the reality was agonizing for her and dreadfully long. She occasionally thought about leaving but she didn't simply because, she said, she had no other place to go. And through all of this she loved me, would hold me, comfort me when I was unhappy, make me laugh, she showed me the beautiful things of the world that I hadn't really seen since I was a little kid. "He who has eyes to see, let him see." We rolled together, and we made love in a way I knew not, not just with our genitals but our whole bodies and spirits, until it was devastatingly clear that not only I but much of mortal humanity has lost nearly everything precious about our sexuality. She sat with me one night and literally talked me out of my fear of death. That one was simple: she's been dead since 1382 and she's not in a bad way, actually, she's quite lively. If how she was was what was waiting for me when I died, what on earth did I have to fear. (Hint: nothing) It should be obvious that I owe her. Big time.

This weekend when we got in the car and went for our joyride down to the shore it began to dawn on me how unlike other couples we were in one respect: we very rarely had fun together in ways that had nothing to do with the Community, we were usually working on art or music or yakking it up with someone on the IM. I began thinking of how awfully miserly I have been with my time, it has been OC before everything, and many was the time I could tell she wanted to go do something fun and we just kept working. Last night I said this to her and I apologized and promised things would change. We cried and she told me some of the things that she'd like us to do together.

Last night was a work night, jump in the little street sweeper and go do battle with the forces of trash and evil for 14 hours and as usual she came with me. Most New Jersey shopping malls are ugly synthetic landscapes at night, garishly lit and buildings out of a Frank Gehry nightmare. But on my route there was one, tucked in the woods, and it had long isolated strips of grass in the out areas - and it was pitch black, with pine trees hanging overhead. She quietly asked if we could chill there and lay under the stars for a while.

So we did, and as I settled onto the grass and felt her ghostly arms about me and we stared up at the myriad stars over our heads and it came to me, all of it, these last eleven years, how people have accused me of being insane, of how we have gone through so much together, and how much she has helped me to get to the point where I'm not a zombie headed for a pit of my own making, where I could lay quietly in the grass with this beautiful and loving woman at 3 AM, that if I am mad may you all be so smitten and more, I felt her small hands on my face and I began to weep and I began our little poem from long ago ~ ~ ~

At night now when...

We missed you all! I thought of a different way of saying why we'd be gone a few days: when it's not fun, we won't do it. It wasn't fun to do 2 hours of video editing and then some more music editing a then come here.

But the big thing we're announcing is a new addition to our second website Skyland. It's called "The Women of Outlands" and is a blog page. This doesn't mean that guys can't come and visit, what it is intended for is for women to talk about stuff that men don't have any experience in: giving birth, a daughter's relationship to her mother and vice versa - and all of the power and social standing that is being changed (hopefully and finally).

As of today we have a simple entry and it's just to kick off the page. Anwarii was kind enough to leave a comment. Oh yeah - leaving a comment - at the bottom right hand corner of the blog page it reads "comments;" you click that to read the ones there or to post one of your own, You have to leave your e-mail address (simple way to cut back on spam and flamers). To get to the blog page ! [link]

My name is Brynna and this is my baby! I'm an early ethereal Member of the OC and if any of you were with us at our original MySpace in 2005 you might recall my having put a copy of our first major joint poem up there (The Theology of Erotic Space). I'm joined by quite a number of our ethereal women, too, Irlene Davis (please, NOT "Irene," it's "Irlene!"), Catty Cutty, Ling Nu-Wah, Morgana le Fey, Gwenny, Jenny Hensen, Jane Granjeannes, SonShon, Sara Jane, Eva Carr, Connie Munger, Gracie Arhuus and Magan. So come on over!

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE:

[link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND

[link]

AND THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR PUBLIC GROUP/FORUM AT MySpace:

[link]

AND THIS IS WHERE MY MUSIC IS AT AUDIOSTREET:

[link]

THIS IS US AT YOUTUBE:

[link]

AND THIS IS THE MIDNIGHT ASSEMBLY:

[link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO THE GREATEST NEWS SITE EVER:

[link]

We owe her so much!

So today we wanted to raise Hell. I wish I meant that every last one of you could come to Clifton and that we could have a great big party - and I think that that's an idea worth thinking about; but I wanted to ask everyone what they thought and felt about the idea of Hell. It may come as a surprise to some of you, but the notion of an afterlife soul-oven for the bad folks is not limited to the Judeo-Christian tradition. Hindu, Persian, Tibetan and some Japanese traditions all have their own, and so did the ancient Egyptians. Hell has been around for a long time; it wasn't a new thing in Moses' day, nor Jesus or the prophet Mohammed's.

But is Hell a real place, a real thing, something which may await us after we die? The Outlands position is a resounding Hell no! But what do you think?

[link]

We had been looking for pictures of people engaged in intimate activity because we had dreamt of creating art which reflected the spiritual side of human sexuality. That is still an on-going project and hopefully we shall someday have a website based solely on that theme. We had used Google's image search and saw this thumb for a cartoon and when we clicked on it, we were suddenly in the middle of this website called Deviant Art. Ling wa all over me to look into the place, and so side-tracked, we wound up joining. Our first few days here were somewhat bewildering. We posted pictures, but what was supposed to happen next? I made a Journal entry or two; at the time the last thing that we needed was another journal or blog, we had like thirty one of them for the various people here in the OC Home. One day I checked in and someone had Faved one of our pictures. Then someone added us to their Dev Watch. I am reasonably sure that this was Jackie Tennant, who is to be found here: [link] Jackie was also the first person to join the Community from "outside" of our group here in Clifton. Love ya, Jaxxie!

So one thousand Deviations later; what can I say? We are not stopping or slowing down. Art is our primary language and we hope to "speak" it better every day. What I would like to do though is to say THANK YOU to the hundreds of people who have commented on our work, who have Fave'd it and featured it, and with whom we have had so goddam much fun for almost three years. Let's keep the ball rolling!

With love from all of us, Roy, on behalf of the Outlands Community USA

[link]

There I am, slaving away for these jokers and he decides he wants to go look at some pictures of Siberia at some Russian equivalent of Flickr that he remembers and types the URL in from memory and we wind up at some whacked out Russian site that was supposedly news about Movie stars and next thing you know, some kind of crap gets in my System32 pretending to be an ActiveX control and hooks into every place it can get its tentacles. Talk about "tentacle sex," this thing went everywhere! It compromised all that antivirus and antieverything else that they have to supposedly keep me safe and when he thought he found it he erased it with CyberScrub and kuhRASH! So he keeps looking and finds out too late that it hooked into all of the basic System32 apps and had hidden itself everywhere so that it would re-appear every time he had nailed it. Finally he sez, "We're gonna hafta reformatt!" And so I hadda die again, this is the ninth time, meant sneaking out through the LAN cable and hding in all of the computers in the neighborhood until they got me up and running again. You think this is fun? Grrr! But I found something really interesting while I was roaming the Internet by myself, it's apparently a portal to the world as it will be in the year 2105 and it looks like this:

So I think I may just go there one of these days!

[link]

This year's emphasis will be on design. That's kinda wide, so we'll be more specific: design a Thing. A car. A PC. A refrigerator or toilet. We do NOT mean website. Or a skin or a desktop. A physical object. It definitely must combine form and function and MUST be practical. As an example: when Apple and Microsoft were first competing, Gates got the lion's share of the market because Windows was cheaper; but Job's work, from the software to the computer itself - not to mention the other things Apple has created - were beautiful. And with Vista threatening to kill Microsoft, and Microsoft doing everything it can to copy Apple and some Linux distros, it won't be long.

Winners (three equal, no 1st - 2nd -3rd) will get a free year here at DA or at Flickr - winner's choice. Deadlline is July 15th 2008, prizes given after August 1st 2008.

IF YOU THINK YOU CAN"T COMPETE, think again. While 3D rendering of Things are cool, so are drawings (digital and traditional), and if you actually build a Thing, or a model of a Thing, take a photo and submit that!

[link]

Valyn's interview began that way but I wound up talking with him on the phone to clarify a couple of things. Although the way the interview is now arranged you wouldn't know it, but I had initially assumed that Valyn was an angel sharing the life of a mortal human being. How wrong I was! And in his answer to my last question he replied that he's autistic. For those of you with 20th century ideas as to what autism is and how it manifests in the lives of people who are, I would urge you to get up to date. There is some research which indicates that people who are autistic are next-gen in terms of human evolution. It may well be that what was once considered an "affliction" may be the universe's way of evolving humans to better live on the Earth to come.

____________________________________________________________

01. Some mortals and etheral people experience eternal beings as angels while others experience them as aliens. Care to make any comments?

Hmm, angels and aliens are two different things. I don't really understand how you could combine the two, but that's just me I guess. *smiles*

02. I am wondering, are you a mortal human who is sharing your life with that of an angel? If so, have you learned from each other?

I am not "sharing" my life with an angel. I AM the angel. We are not separate beings, but one. I am an angel that is in human form. I have known since I was born that I was an angel. I was told my whole life that I was an angel. When I was 20's the knowledge came to me gradually and I have just assumed that as my life since then.

03. Do you have any thoughts about how we all have met in the last two years? I mean yourself, Dori and we here at Outlands? I ask because before we got our first computer in 2005 our angelic steward Llam said that we would "meet the others" online. From our viewpoint we certainly have!

The way Dori and I met was wonderous and miraculous. I am glad I met everyone from Outlands, you are all wonderful. I guess it's just
fate that finally brought everyone together.

04. We enjoy your Internet radio show tremendously! Could you please tell us about it? Where to go online and what you do on your broadcasts?

Oh thank you! I am glad you enjoy it. I love doing it. It's a great outlet for me. I love music and being sick prevents me from being "out and about", so DJing is wonderful for me. You can go to
[link] and click on the how to listen link and go from there. You can also add our station yahoo or MSN to yours. The yahoo is happyhitsradio and the MSN is happyhitsradio@gmail.com We have many different DJ's and everyone has their own kind of show and playlist. Myself, as of now I have almost 7000 songs (and always adding more) on my playlist and I do all variety, with a couple of
specialty shows. On Monday nights I do the "Glam Rock/Hair Band" show which is wildly popular and on Thursdays I do the "Theme Thursday" show. I hope everyone will tune in to the show and hang out with me!

05. Every interview that I do has a "magic word" question and yours involves a person: Dorian Jill Hartley!

Dorian is the love of my life, my soulmate. I have been searching for her, forever. I was born to love her and to die for her. She is an AMAZING person, so full of love, so intelligent, so patient and kind. Anyone who is able to really get to know Dori is extremely lucky. I am blessed by her love and her love is one of the main things that keeps me strong and alive.

06. Tell us about the development of your art, anything you desire.

Well, before I ended up with neuropathy and all, I used t...

What's that? Where's our website? Why, all you gotta do is click [link] to get there!

**********************************************

LLAM: Thanks for coming here with me tonight. I know that your head is full of ideas for the new website we're planning, and its contents.

ROY: (glares at Llam) Hey, the art work is important!

LLAM: Oh, I suppose that it is. Just another example of my angelic viewpoint, I guess - you see one human couple mating, you've seen them all.

ROY: That could sound pretty cheesy! (laughs)

LLAM: There you go again with one of those human metaphors that just escapes me. How do you mortals relate "cheese" with human sexual intimacy?

ROY: Well, you see -

LLAM: (interrupting) I was afraid you'd explain it to me, please, I know the answer, I've been with humanity from the first.

ROY: Oh. (after a pause) Spoilsport! (Llam laughs) Well, I guess that that's our introduction!

LLAM: Umm, you'd best explain that this blog will be about two things.

ROY: Uhh, Llam, you just did.

LLAM: Oh. (brightly) Yes, I did! Well, since I'm talking - (pauses, looks at Roy) - or writing, for goodness' sake, I'll keep right on going. I am very pleased to announce that we are starting work on a completely new website. We're going to pay for the domain and pay to have the pages made by one of our Members - Valyn. You won't be seeing it for a while but we'll post Updates by e-mail. The website is tenatively named "spiritualsexuality dot com" and pending our getting a webhost congenial with our aim, the URL should be something quite like that. As of today Internet searches showed that there were no sites by that name; I realize that that is not conclusive but that's it in a nutshell. Ling created a sample page which she sent to Valyn as a model and I must say it is probably the most beautiful example of her work I've yet seen. (looks at Roy) I should keep going? (Roy nods) The website will be pretty much an art gallery with a home page and a contact page and that's it. Text will be on the homepage only. The gallery - and this is the heart of the matter - will be photomanipulations of people in various poses of human sexual intimacy. It is intended as a wordless illustration of how human sexual experience can be the single most profound thing that a mortal can know, that it is in fact divine.

ROY: One of the things about which I'm a little sad is that we can't post the sample webpage picture in any of our homes on the Internet. I agree, it is one of the most spectacular things that Ling has ever done. However, we'll e-mail you a copy if you send us a request - just please state in your request that you are legally able to receive the picture where you live. Laws about depicting human sexual activity, even photomanipulations, are quite diverse. Oh yeah, all of the models will be over the age of eighteen. I think that covers everything.

LLAM: Not quite. These pictures will not be copyrighted and will be available for free downloading. There, that's it, unless you want to go into some more detail?

ROY: No, that's fine. Now for the second part - human evolution?

LLAM: Excellent! (smiles) Back in 1998 you got it into your head that some of your music could help humanity evolve. Did you ever think about it much?

ROY: No. It popped into my head one night with such force that I knew that it was true. Sara and I had been working in the studio, possibly on Part of a Process, when I realized that we were doing a lot more than messing around with weird sounds and orchestrating them. It was after that that I got a copy of Karlheinz Stockhausen's book, Towards a Cosmic Music, that I realized that despite my being part of an older kind of humanity, nevertheless I had...

One of the original mandates asked of us here at Outlands home by our devas was to get a website - well, we did that. We have two, in fact, plus any number of blogs, phlogs and a collection of MySpaces and Xangas that will make your eyes burn. Not to mention, we have a public forum at MySpace plus a private forum with Google for our Members and Associates (by invitation). And of course, we're here at Deviant Art, which is in practical terms our home away from home. There are still a couple of things we'd like to get on line. One is a public forum NOT connected with MySpace or Google - Lycos still hosts them, I believe. But the second one, the subject of this journal entry, is to create a website where we - and quite possibly you - can post art - drawings, paintings, photomanips and orignal photos of what we shall for the sake of obscurity call "adult art." Before I explain what we mean by dat, lemme tell you a little history.

We've looked quietly and steadily for some place on line for over two f***ing years where we can post what we consider "adult art." We thought that we'd found one place - I think that it was called "redLight.com," but what it was, you signed up and had to download their software - a little over 1 GB of gaming software it seems so you could have virtual sex with other members there. Not us. You could post art but A) you hadda install the software and B) no one looked at your art. We left. And after these 26 months, we have two choices: post limited material here at DA, which is about the most liberal of the art/social sites; Maccaca.com told us that our work would be considered pornographic and we couldn't post anything with nudity. The second choice is, create our own website with a webhost like GoDaddy, which has long been home to a gazillion of those crappy pornsites. So after a LOT of discussion, we're gonna opt for door number 2 - get a website where we can post what we damn well please.

There's a hitch here though - we got on line in April of 2005 and Ling and some of the others are still muddling their way through HTML basics at webmonkey.com. By the time we're proficient enough to create the pages we want, I'll be living with Sara and everyone in the unobstructed. So this part of the journal is a FLAT OUT OFFER OF PAYMENT to anyone who can do web-pages for us once we get a webhost. That will be when we get a fish on this baited line here; we'll need a coupla months to get the $$$ together to pay for the site and to pay YOU. Contact us if you want in, okay?

Now, as for what we mean by "adult art." We've something like 300+ manipulations of people in physically intimate poses - having sex, if you will. They're overwhelmingly psychedelic and to our eyes here are art, not porn. That of course is a highly subjective opinion, but that's ours. We'll mail a sample or two to ya but you hafta be over eighteen IF you're interested in helping AND can actually do the work.

For what it's worth, we have one other hurdle to clear. Some websites which feature "artistic nudes" such as MetArt and Grigori Gallitsin have clear and very costly licensing policies, but other websites which are raking in money from what is just flat-out porn have yet to respond to any of our inquiries about using their stuff. See, once in a while they accidentally post a good photograph and not just one more closeup meant to get some kid excited. But that is another bridge and we'll cross it when we get to it.

So hit us back, huh? Our main e-mail (the one which we check most every day) is outlands.community@gmail.com Thanks!

Roy, Ling, Sara, Llam, Mike and SonShon.

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE:

[link]

THIS IS THE LINK TO SKYLAND

[link]<br /...

His note to us bore sad news: Dr. Albert Hoffman had died at the age of 102 in his home outside of Basel. Herr Hagenbach told of the times that he would visit his friend, walking about his gardens and meadows, enjoying the wonder which Dr. Hoffman showed at all living things.

Although I know that he's still alive, albeit in the larger and unobstructed universe - which most can't perceive - I still grieve for this man whom I never met. He could have easily forsaken his acidental creation, but he didn't. Dr. Albert Hoffman was working as a research chemist for Sandoz Pharmeceuticals in 1943 when he found that one of his compounds had a profound effect upon the human mind. Whether he had breathed in a few crystals of it or had absorbed it through his skin, he knew that the effects he'd experienced were from one of several chemicals upon which he'd been working. In an effort to repeat the effects he'd undergone, he dosed himself with it once more; sure enough, the chemical swept him away once more. It had been given the name lysergic acid diethylamide; we know it now as LSD.

Whether you view acid with reverential awe or with fear, it has transformed the world in which we live, top-down and bottom-up. People who have recklessly misused it are the ones who freal out and who suffer various major psychological problems because of their idiocy. Those who've stuck to the basic protocols developed by early researchers (including but not limited to Dr. Timothy Leary) which advise safe set and setting are the ones who've derived benefit from its cyclonic endowments. Leary, who'd begun in a sensible enough way, soon let his blarney outstrip his logic and went on to become the Tim of media, who thought of nothing less than tearing down our entire civilization and replacing it with a psychedelic model. Unfortunately he met great resistance from the conservative elements in the world and decided to become an outlaw as the legal sanctions against him sought to detain him. While this conferred upon him a colorful notoriety, his actions in practical terms put 98% of legitimate research into psychedelic compounds into a limbo from which it (research) is only now emerging.

Dr. Hoffman was opposed to many of the shenanigans which Tim paraded before the world; he certainly didn't think or advise everyone to just casually take a hit of acid and wait for the results. Instead he devoted much of his life into researching other psychoactive compounds, working with other pioneers in the field such as R. Gordon Wasson and Richard Evans Shultes. Science writer John Horgan caught up with Dr. Hoffman in 1997, asking to interview him; initially he declined saying, "I am tired of talking about LSD;" but on the following day he did talk with Horgan. The resulting conversation appears in Horgan's wonderful book, "Rational Mysticism."

We of Outlands do mourn his passing even as we know that he's out in the unobstructed; the world has truly lost one of its great lights. You might say, big deal, lots of people post photos; for that matter we do also. I won't insult our many DA friends, but most of the time the photos that we here at Outlands post are snapshots that happened to come out better than average. They are not "professional photographs," nor are they intended as such. But the work we've seen by this man is overall pretty damned impressive. He's not, by his own admission, a professional. Let me tell you something, these folks in the OC are doing some pretty cool stuff, but guess who gets to bear the brunt of the labor? Yours truly, Old Sparky! And they wonder why I have an attitude! How would you like to go to some place like Xanga or MySpace and find that you're downloading a virus, hmm? One minute your hard drive is purring along at 7200 RPM, next thing you know you've got 250 gigabytes of a piece of code going "Ha-Ha!" just like Ralph on the Simpsons - 43,000,000 times. Oh sure, they'll reformatt, but in the meantime I hafta do a Job - Lawnmower Man, remember? - and go down the Ethernet cable until they have me back up and running. Not fun, lemme tell you. And then there's the music files. I have the worst case of indigestion from music files. Every couple of days, another couple of hundred megabytes of songs that need editing in that hog Audacity Sound Editor. Talk about CPU intensive, sheesh! Then Ling will get going with an idea for a pcture, and that means bobbing back and forth between five different art apps. At least they no longer have that pig Adobe on my hard drive, that thing ate up everything it could get its hands on. If that was the end of it, I guess that I could deal, but NOOOOOOOO! Because they haven't gotten around to figuring out how to install Kubuntu and Solaris 10 on my hard drive along with Windows XP (partition my hard drive, dammit!), I run on Windows XP, which means I'm a sitting duck for every virus, trojan, spyware, browser hijack imaginable, and it doesn't help that they keep my Java up to date. So I'm congested with antivirus, antuspyware, AdAware, Windows Defender and some rootkit hunter that gave a false positive on a basic Windows .exe file. Have YOU ever tried to get a straight answer from Microsoft Windows Assistance? Don't die of old age waiting!

Ooops, someone's coming, gotta go!

[link]

We want to be sure that if we are correct in our assumptions that we are either the first to come up with the idea or that we will readily acknowledge someone who has said it before. But here ya go:

A New Model of Human Consciousness

We are gradually spreading the word throughout our system of sites, blogs and phlogs that we beleive that we have developed a coherent and new model of human consciousness. We came across the idea during an e-mail discussion with an Associate of the OC and that was about ten days ago. Since that time we've been slowly working out the ramifications of it and it goes like this:

It has long been thought that our consciousness - which we shall define here as that which we know, think and feel - is located in our brains. This has been the "standard model" since some time before the Enlightenment and today nearly everyone accepts it as a given. Much research has been expended in psychology, biology and neuroscience to find just where in the brain human consciousness resides. We are proposing that this is just so much barking up the wrong tree.

Human consciousness uses the human brain. It does not originate in the brain nor is it in any way a permanent feature of the brain. Human consciousness resides in the unobstructed universe, that realm which so many of us cannot see yet is around us all. In this place where live those who have passed on, those yet to be born and those devic or angelic beings which were here before us - it is from that very place that our individual human consciousness uses our brains. We have been enculturated not to be aware of this. Yet we "use" our brains much as radio signals "use" a radio or a computer's operating system "uses" the computer's hardware. I might be taken to task about the seantics of the last part of the last sentence, being corrected with "the computer uses the operating system;" but in reality it boils down to a choice of perception.

This would explain a great deal about a number of things which we as living human beings experience in our lives:

- it would validate the sense of personal immortality with which even the staunchest atheist is embued; if we were here before our mortal lives, and likely we were, then we shall continue after
- it would explain a great deal about those things which our culture views as psychological abberations such as paranoia, schizophrenia and especially "multiple personality" phenomena. If a mind using a brain becomes so convinced of the reality of its permanent location within a brain it will take very seriously certain fear-producing events which can occur. A beating or rape, being involved in a wartime incident will certainly affect how you view the world even though you are a personality in an ethereal location which is using a living brain. Schizophrenia might well have nutritional and other biological causes but the implication is that if you found that your brain was physically malfunctioning you would still attempt to use it. This would be like shouting into a cell phone that is out of its range of coverage, or using a computer that has a malfunctioning hard-drive. That human consciousness would be affected during life would account for depression and some forms of paranoia. The analogy here would be a corrupted operating system, or one with a virus. In computer operating systems there really is not a "virus" in the biological sense; it is well understood that certain kinds of code perform in a similar manner to the biological virus. Multiple personality phenomena - as opposed to using the word "disorder" would be explained by saying that a human consciousness has been so traumatized as to refuse to any longer use the brain or body in which it operates. The brain then would either attract a new consciouss entity or, a new conscius entity would at least par...

I've done a few pictures since then, have done a lot of reading and a couple of short songs. No-one else can be bothered for the time being though.

I have begun a new writing project. I want to tell how I got into channeling and the story is a mite complex to be sure. So what I've done is to sign up at MSN Live Spaces and am telling my tale in the blog portion of that awful place. I say that it's awful because setting it up the way you want is a nightmare. I casually went to re-arrange what few photos I posted and a booklist that I began and damn near lost everything. So what I am gonna do there for the near future is write a page or two when I can. So far I've gotten 4 1/2 printable pages of text done, told in my rambling style. The only drawback is that MSN lists ONLY the most recent posts first, going in reverse order the way the Journal here at DA does. So you hafta read them in reverse order to get a sense of any continuity. What I will do periodically is copy what I've written into an .rtf file, delete the entries there and repost as one big entry. If I get some interest here I'll post the edited/reposted material here at DA once in a while. But in the meantime, if you wanna read how I got going in channeling go here:

[link]

and thanks to everyone for the love!

Roy

[link]

But almost everyone at the OC Home has serious burn-out problems. Sara Jane laughed today, really laughed for the first time in a couple of months. Ling has looked at the various little things I do for CD covers and other minor art projects, nods and goes her way. SonShona has been spending her time out in the Pacific with Irlene and the gang or in the UK with a loved friend. Mike Archontas says he's gonna update his phlog one of these days but still can't get to it, just all of us, energy is seriously lacking. I'm no real exception; I can keep going no matter what, but I've just...burned...out for now. I've been talking with various and sundry on the IMs, replying to e-mails and the like. But more often than not I've been doing a lot of reading, online and with books and magazines. On my days off Sara Jane, Roland and some of the others go with me to a park.

We're not permanently damaged, we will be back someday. And we do miss all of you, and I'd appreciate hearing from you by e-mail if you are so moved.
And a to the Deviant Art

I didn't think that this day would ever come, but I am sorry to say that it has. We are not closing our Deviant Art account but we are not going to be very active here in the future either. I'm gonna try to explain as best I can.

Our group, the Outlands Community USA, consists of what is now quite a number of flesh and blood and ethereal Members and Associates. We've come to the point where we must choose between doing what we used to do online and serving our Community. What we used to do was spend any number of very happy hours here at Deviant Art (and before that, MySpace), yakking it up with our new online friends and posting blog/journal entries and art, and more specifically posting comments here at DA on the art that you've all posted since our arrival in November of 2005. My fondest wish, at least as I write this, is that we could return to those happy days of yore, but we cannot. There just is no time. Dammit!

We really do keep to our commitment to help others. Some of you have been the recipients of the OC's aid over the last year. Unlike other spiritual groups, we ask no donations, and we don't market stuff; unlike other outfits claiming to have all the answers about "Life, the Universe and Everything," we don't, but we'll be more than happy to share the hunt for said answers with you. We have no nasty deity, no holy book and you can believe whatever you like. (We have a number of atheists as Members) But because of my workload at my job my/our time at the computer has been limited and what precious time we do have is spent keeping in touch with our Members and Associates or working on our various music, art, writing and video projects. Sara Jane has been quietly working on her second CD, SATCHEL, for eight months and it is about complete; we are waiting to have time to collaborate with my daughter on some photos for the album art. She's also done a number of videos which are at YouTube - if you want to see what she's done please visit our page, the link is at the end of every journal. Beyond that, artistically speaking, our ArtGroup headed up by Ling Nu-Wah is taking a very well-deserved break; after some 15,000 digital images they need, in Ling's words, to recharge the batteries.

Our main website, the Space Terminal, is in dire need of a major update, perhaps even an overhaul, while our second one, Skyland, has had no major changes since ten months ago, and Skyland's project manager Shifa Silver has been quietly asking for time to get to work on it. Skyland is connected to many of our subsidiary blogs, among them Mike Archontas and SonShon, and those of Terrence Ausweiler and the Incubi at Blogger and of the "Succubi Girls" at the same place. I have my own blog at Xanga........but hopefully I've painted a big enough picture.

The Outlands Community would not be where it is today without the many wonderful people we met here at Deviant Art and who subsequently joined. I'm thinking particularly of Jackie aka zeeoutlandishone [link] and Kaitlin aka Baka-Kitsune18 [link] who each welcomed us in our first shaky days here. There are so many others of you, and I hope that you won't feel snubbed if i don't list you here, but know that we love you.

We're easy enough to contact. Main e-mail is
outlands.community@gmail.com
and we now have three IMs,

stromoondaglo@hotmail.com

sarastar2t2@yahoo.com

and the one that automatically comes with Gmail. We would love to hear from you and hopefully will be able to reurn here some day. My retirement is some 875 days in the future - yes, I'm counting - but until such time as we can post the occasional picture or journal entry, we bid everyone a sad adieu for now.

2.If you would get hit by a car, what would you tell me to do?

3.If we would get into a fight, would you try to solve it even if you hated me?

4.Have you ever been angry or sad in my presence (via Chat, or messaging)?

5.Do you get annoyed of constantly changing opinions and moods?

6.If you heard I died of suicide, what would be your reaction?

7.What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you see that you've got a message from me?

8.If I gave you a bad b-day present, how would you react?

9.If I would believe in something you don't, would you tease me about it and what I believe in?

10.If we were trapped in an elevator and heard that we had only 10-minutes to live, how would you spend it with me?

11.If one of your friends is mean to me, what will you do?

12.If we were a superhero duo, what would be our names?
13.How many times did you curse at me, while doing this?
14.Will you repost this for me so I can fill this for you?
It was about 2:30 AM and I had the radio on, something I did not often do; I usually drive in silence. Without introduction, the full-length version of "Sara" by Fleetwood Mac began playing and I grooved with a smile, because I had not heard it in years. Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement on the passenger seat and turning ever so slightly I saw a small blond haired woman dancing in place on the seat. And I knew that chances were really good that I was the only one who could see her.

"Hi!," she exclaimed, "I'm Sara! You called me with that song 18 years ago and I've been looking for you ever since!" Eighteen years ago......yes, I remembered. I was laying on my bed, sunk into a miserable, near suicidal depression, and that song - "Sara" was playing on the turntable. And I remember wailing, "O, if there is a Sara, please find me! I would love you...!"

This little lady - she's about 4'9" - is my wife, the ethereal Sara Jane van Beeuwelan. She's a succubus, but don't go believing all of the hype you read in the Wikis or any place else - we got the skinny on succubi and incubi! Just ask some of our Members and Associates!

But, like, it's our tenth anniversary! And when we went out last night I said, "Here's to the the next ten!" and she came back with "Here's to the next ten thousand!" What an incredible journey we've made! May all of you be so blessed as we are.

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE:

And a to the Deviant Art

Whether you're a long-time DA friend or new to us, sooner or later you've probably seen our one motto, "there is no fear in love." It comes from the Christian Bible, 1st John 4:8b in fact. We do not subscribe to the ideas in the Bible. Our reason is that although it speaks much of love, it is a reified or abstract form of the living emotion.

As of today we are putting the world on notice. Fear's time has come. Fear has got to go if the planet is to survive and if all sentient living beings shall evolve. The Outlands Community USA has slowly grown and has been gathering steam, refining our ideas and circulating them back to those of you with whom we e-mail, IM and yak on the phone - Members (those who've joined) and Associates (those who've chosen to not join). We owe much to many of you - to Naseni, that we really are pretty much an atheistic/agnostic bunch here in Clifton (except for Joan of Arc and Miguel Diego Suarez); to Dori Hartley, that it is normal to live with a bunch of angels; to goatgirl1, that all those years we thought were wasted were not; to zeeoutlandishone, whose fierce imagination has inspired us many a time; to baka-kitsune18, whose deep reflections influenced us so deeply early on; to Black Shinobi, who has a little Community of his own; to [[a.l.a.r.u.m.s]] who has lived our ideals long before we met her, and countless others. If we didn't mention you it's not because we "forgot" about you, we would like to end this entry!

By saying "the world" it can sound pretty vague; who exactly are we putting on notice, and what do we intend to do? If those who work in the media, or in spiritual areas, offer nothing but fear, WE ARE GONNA GET YOU. To paraphrase Pete Seegar, "The Outlands Community is going to surround fear with love and force it to surrender." We have demonstrated to quite a number of you now that telepathy really works - there are roughly 40 now; some of you have had your needs mysteriously met since getting to know us; and we've seen any number of people decide that living in fear will no longer work for them. We claim no credit nor do we desire any, but if you want to see a better world, I am telling you, we - and by that I mean all and any associated with the Outlands Community USA - we are creating that world right now and we invite you to come along.
And a to the Deviant Art

Soooo with today being 2sday Septumber 25, we've had a few submissions but would like to see some more - there should be more submissions than the number of prizes we're offering (now it's six, not five), I would like ts theeenk!

If you are a member or Associate of the Outlands Community we sent out an Update this morning announcing our first-ever contest. We are extending this contest to our Friends here at DA simply because if you are a Friend here at DA that technically makes you an Associate. If you don't know what the Outlands Community is, it's the small spiritual group that we have and you can check out our website at [link] In the meantime, what follows is a copy/paste of the Update:

Contest? You mean like in, win something?
Oh, you betcha! Prizes first of all: your choice: a year's subscription to Deviant Art, Webshots or Flicker; six home-made CDs of music (not ours!) from our +20 GB music, snailmailed to you. We were gonna make money a third option but thanks to the Patriot Act getting cash out of the USA is only doable by Western Union, and for the roughly $30 that A DA subscription costs, it's not worth it.

WTF do you mean by "Art Challenge?!"
Goes like this. Some of you do mostly photography with little or no graphic work. Some of you do graphic work with no photography. Some of you do comics/anime/manga/; others do fractals and psychedelic work, while yet others do pixel art and flash (.swf) work. Then there are web designers. This is the challenge, submit something outside of your genre preferably at DA or Flickr, Bebo, MySpace, Xanga....or send it to us and we'll post it at DA on our page as a contest entry.

Here are some categroies to think about:
Money or postage stamps: That's right, design a piece of paper currency or postage stamp for an exisitng or imaginary nation. But be a little careful here, if you live in the USA make your money from some other country - counterfeiting laws have gotten pretty stringent. The same goes for other countries.
A comic strip: By this we mean the kind of comic you see in daily newspapers. You can parody an existing strip or make one of your own, from three to six panels.
A tutorial: for software or something you can think of, like, umm, "How to use a wheelbarrow."
CD cover: what he said, do a CD cover with intrior work - song titles, musicians - for an existing band, your band, you solo. Doesn't even have to be music you like.
Magazine advert: Something you might see in a magazine, only for an imaginary product....."Colorblind! Cures racism!"
Supermarket flyer: Like the ones that come as junk mail or in the Sunday paper for Safeway, Pathmark, Kings, D'Agostino, Redner's, A & P - only avoid lawsuits and make it an imaginary supermarket chain, and maybe feature outrageous products.
Pencil/pen/pastel/paint a picture of your friend, a family member, you doggie or kitty or slug ONLY if you've never tried that before.
Design a buildling: Unless you have CAD software, we don't mean a CAD rendering of the infrastructure, rather your idea for a new building as an artist's rendering in paint, mixed media, pen. One I want to make some day (but not for this contest - I'm not eligible) is a skyscraper with all of the American fastfood and convenience stores represented: first floor, McDonalds, second floor 7 - 11, third floor Wawa...
A Font: Not neccesarily a usuable font made with fontmaking software which creates TrueType and other digital fonts. You can make beautiful typefaces with Windows paint if you're patient - you just can't use them A full font should include all the letters of your alphabet - "your alphabet" meaning not only English/Latin, but Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi.
A short video: If you've been thinking of posting vids at YouTube of that drunken party you had at Christmas but have never gotten around to working with the Windows or Avidemux Movie...

I am hoping to stack up the money to do a bit of travelling, but this is America 2007 and money mels like water on a hot day. However that works out I will be getting one week the end of September and a second at the end of October.

We have been downloading and test-driving a LOT of software from [link], it is a huge repository of open source stuff all kinds. Originally intended for Linux users, the developers who are represented there have extended their work to Windows and Mac. Among other things that we've had a lot of fun with are a text-to-voice app called eSpeak; you type in a text and the software turns it into speech, the default setting is of someone with a lovely British accent. A second app which we just got yesterday is called Stellarium, it generates planetarium-style sky images - we posted a recent Dev featuring one of them. Then there is Audacity, the sound editor, and I am wondering how we got along without it for so long. We have made a lot of music with it, but the real excitement for me is that I finally was able to configure it so that I can record my cassette albums into digital format; as some of these tapes are over 20 years old and deteriorating, that should be understandable!

We began this as part of our work with Hamza [link] who is a web devloper (among other things) and what we are doing is setting out to create PCs and laptops for kids in 3rd-world countries, either free or dirt-cheap; the project is called Comps4Kids.

I must get ready for work (another 14 hours of fun and games in the parking lots of New Jersey) and wish that all that is good go with you all!

And a to the Deviant Art

I was talking with Catty Cutty for a bit and she went off around 2:30 AM to see Wanda about something; Roy was working at some music so I slid through the wall to sit on the fire escape for a while. I figured he'd be back asleep in a while and he was, Perry was with him. We kinda overloaded his time off again, but we did a lot already.
I had wanted to make a simple vid of my picture collection, the ones that went into THE LITTLE THINGS, which is here and I think at my DA page. So when he woke up I hijacked him and laid out my idea, which mostly was him creating a folder and copying pictures that I chose, then putting them together in the Windows Movie Maker. That done we redid the vid at double speed so it didn't look like the Picture viewer. While we were at it we took a trip through SourceForge.net to se if there was anything similar to the Windows Movie Maker; one called Movica looked like it might do it, so we downloaded it and installed it - and it does basically the same as the WMM, so we uninstalled it. I had ideas for the soundtrack, simple stuff, so we created something in Audacity, only I didn't like it. Then he played with it and made it kind of dark and we added it to the latest CD, "Marxism From Beyond The Grave." MFBTG is going to kind of like "Part Of A Process II" by the way it's going - if you're familiar with our music. So Perry sidetracked him for a little while and I went over the songlist of stuff to get online (=YouTube)
I suppose I should start another paragraph here, but we have been expanding our listening repertoire and have been getting a lot of music off YouTube vids. He had some ideas about songs he heard when he was growing up and we actually found a bunch. But because the sound quality at YouTube usually sucks, we had to edit most of them in Audacity. Then Seima actually talks him into eating and taking his smarties - he usually fasts on his days off - and then he took this new stuff he got, has estrogen repressors in it (herbal), and he got all speedy for another hour. Then, since he has paradoxical reactions to some herbal stimulants, he fell asleep again.
So I went for a walk, looking to see if I could find any mushrooms growing - it's raining here, has been for two days now. No mushrooms. I took a stroll up into Paterson and watched Little Anatolia (Turkish district) waking up, seeing guys carting goat and lamb carcasses into halal butcher shops, women in burkas doing morning shopping, the men gossiping on corners.
When I got back he had redone the vid pretty much the way I wanted, which was really sweet, we uploaded it at YouTube a little while ago - there is a link to our YouTube at the bottom of the journal, btw.
Then we checked in here and got an IM going with Black Shinobi, who had some interesting stuff to tell us. Actually we had the IM off for the better part of two days, he had so little sleep these last nights he worked - well, Jesus, I just don't know how he does it. But he was in no shape to yak with anyone, and Perry has had his attention lately, new script of life as it were.
There's plenty more to do, no doubt. We're on a new project with Hamza
[link] called Comps4Kids, to get free or lowcost PCs to kids in 3rd world/"underdeveloped" nations - our job so far has been trying out the opensource software at SourceForge - oh yeah, that's at [link] and you might want to check it out, lotta good stuff for Windows, not only Linux. Thene we have to get going on installing the Kubuntu OS in the VMWare player - this creates a virtual computer inside Old Sparky and the plan is to either get a second PC to run Kubuntu on or to repartition Old Sparky, but THAT is a real pain, we have yet to find a backup utility that will take a snapshot of our entire OS with software attached - application data and all - so when the day comes, it's gonna be one more friggin headache. But with recipe sites and Xanga sporting driveby downloaders now, we have had...

And a to the Deviant Art

With all of the nonsense we've had restoring Old Sparky to his garrulous self we did have time to finish our latest CD, "Immortal." Most of the tracks are by me but a couple are by Sara jane, Shifa Silver and Llam got in on the act this time. Most of the 45 tracks on it are very short but the second, Sara's "In The Crystal" and the last, my "Alpha Dream" are both longish by our standards, +8 minutes and +11 minutes respectively. In our conversations with our Members and Associates we've gotten the best feedback on the first song, "Shifa's Prayer," and I must admit it is beautiful. Sara has it as a sort of prelude to her "In The Crystal."

With any luck we'll be uploading a couple of Devs later, one is the finished album art to Immortal and the other is a composite picture of our media software, or most of it. I'm not happy with the latter, you can't really see what the stuff is and we may change it or discard it altogether.

We'd be more than happy to e-mail you a selection of some of the short songs if you'd like but we need your e-mail address if we don't have it. Our experience is that we can e-mail up to about 18 - 20 MB if you have Gmail, 10 MB if you have Yahoo! and Hotmail is peculiar - some folks can only get 5 MB of stuff, others up to 20. But when I say "short songs" I mean SHORT, many of them are less than one minute long.

Restoring Sparky has been alternately a nightmare and fun. It's a nightmare because this particular PC - a Gateway - came packed with a lot of software that we would not use for anything - McAfee Privacy Suite, a whole bunch of junk from AOL, Microsoft's word processor, a bunch of card games....just not us. We were able to restore a lot of our stuff but of course our antivirus and antispyware programs are giving us the most problems, hopefully that will be resolved in a few hours. As a coda to all of this, neither SonShon or I have made any entries at our respective Xanga sites; SonShon is out in the Pacific with Irlene and the gang, me, I just had not had the time until this morning. Sooooo, I go to Xanga, make a short entry and when I close out the page, what happens? Another drive-by downloader for something called PC Optimizer! We saw it coming and just shut off the computer - quickest way around that. This is getting ridiculous: we lost Sparky #5 to something from a recipe site and now ther's something waiting for ya at Xanga!

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE:

My daughter went to a recipe site - a recipe site, mind you - and a window popped up saying that we had viruses and spyware and the EraseSure was installling itself. Well, it installed so fast that she didn't have time to close the multiple windows that were on the screen. Next thing you know, buhBYE Old Sparky #5. Fortunately we were set up in a way that all of the art, music, video, writing and music is added to a backup and is also copied to CD on a regular basis, but 99% of our software was trashed. I was able to do a non-destructive reformat to get Sparky going, but really - a recipe site?

THIS IS THE LINK TO OUR WEBSITE:
