I PASSED THE JAPANESE PLACEMENT TEST! I am now OFFICIALLY in level three. (I've had my textbooks for weeks just in case, but dang, that was a difficult exam. Even if it was only level two... multi-verb sentences! AAGH!) I totally failed kanji - forgot everything as soon as I sat down - but I did well on the other sections so the teacher said "You passed... learn your kanji!"

Then, after taking the test for three hours, I moved furniture. Which sounds bad, but I enjoyed it - way better than sitting for three hours. Izumi-sensei just switched classrooms this morning, so all of her furniture and stuff was in piles when I walked in. By the time I left the room was almost organized. So that part was cool.

So, about two weeks ago, Brianne and I were agonizing over what to do for AX this year. Faced with the choice of Naruto and whatever brilliant idea we could come up with in the next several months, we settled for... JRock.

Maybe if I'd ever heard of a JRocker besides Mana-the-illustrious-transvestite, I wouldn't have spend the entire of last week's four-day-weekend looking for an obscure picture of Mana I found several months ago. Never found it, but eventually decided on THIS.

Bit of a daunting project for an inexperienced, amateur sewer. Even without the wings. And the wig. And the makeup oh god I'M GONNA DIE. At least I don't have 38923483907289 kanji tattoos to do like Brianne.

And WHILE I was crashing around teh intarwebz, I found THE MOST HAWESOME SONG EVARR. I must have seen it at least seven times by now XD. This is also the performance with the least amount of fanservice.

Finals are stressing me out... I'm trying to get straight As but I don't know if that will happen. I got a 91 on my art test, because I was an idiot and forgot to label vanishing point and horizon line (I even read the instructions. Say it with me: DUUUMBAAASS).

After the All-Day Driving Marathon from Hell, I'm finally home. Actually, some of the driving wasn't bad, but it took FOREVER and we got home at 12 because of a touristy stop at Heurst's Castle (sp?). We also stopped at my mom's friend's sister's house for an hour. I slept until past 11 this morning. Can you blame me?

Anyway. We were staying in Berkley, which is just across the bay from San Francisco (which we visited twice, once on Saturday and once on Tuesday). I got a copy of FFX at the Metreon... and that was basically the highlight of San Francisco. XD Alcatraz was cool, but really creepy, since several people (both wardens and prisoners) have died violent deaths there. So yeah. Moving on.

Of course we had to do the college tours. UC Berkley on Friday, and Stanford on Wednesday. Neither of them were quite as interesting as Caltech - then again, at Caltech I got to fence electric with the team, and it's awfully hard to beat that in my book. We also visited some friends I haven't seen in 5 years, but since none of you know them I won't go into detail. (We stayed with them all of Sunday, then drove home.) We would have spent the niight, but...

On Monday I got to tour Pixar! *squeedie* One of the head animators from Cars had visited my mom's second cousin (who we were staying with) for a doctor's appointment, and we met him for lunch and a brief tour. Let me say first that the Pixar facility doesn't have a cafeteria - it has a cafe. (At least, that's how I would describe it. ) You pay for the food, but soda is free (which was completely awesome). They also have a soccer field, swimming pool, and 93278593278 other things for the poor guys that spend their working days hunched over a comptuer. So now I really want to work there.

First we saw the RenderFarm (complete with neon sign), which is where they add the lighting and finish the shot. To add the lighting, the rendering department has to specify what kind of light is pointed at what angle and what reflects off where, using 9287859748391 different equations. The guy said that most of the time, they don't do the really fancy reflections, but during Cars, well, those cars are so darn shiny it just wouldn't look right. The average rendering time for each FRAME was 6-12 hours. There are 24 frames in each second, and that movie was over an hour long, which means it must've taken months to render.

The really cool part was getting to watch the interns work. They had been given a simple assignment (show this character interacting with a prop, perform this dialogue, etc.) and then animated it. We saw about four of them, including one with that little lamp (the one in the Pixar logo? That one.) There was also LOADS of production art and models hanging/standing in all of the hallways (early designs and such), which were fun to look at. But the absolute best part was in the lobby.

I got my picture taken with Lightning McQueen.

My life is now complete.

Brianne, I'm probably going to hate you for this. But by then, I'll be too worn out to even look at a pencil, let alone stab you with one, so you're safe. XD

Yes, I "fixed" the grammar on the thingy below. Don't shoot me. It was hard to read.

The point of this challenge is to test and improve your skill as an artist. After 100 pics, who wouldn’t be better? Please forgive me if this in any way excludes you from taking the challenge.

The Rules
1.) Make 100 pics each pic having a theme listed below. Each pic should have ONE and only ONE theme to it, for it to count.

2.) No time limit so have fun.

3.) The main picture should be drawn but is not limited to. For all fair purposes, people are allowed to use their paint programs and photo shop to create the pic.

3a.) Pics should be of your own artistic ability. You may not edit photos or break any other rules set out in the Da etiquette policy. Your pics can be anything from sketches and doodles to great masterpieces. Just have fun with it.

4.) The list below is to be placed somewhere in your journal for others to see that...
A.) You are in the challenge
B.) What you have completed

5.) Make sure to update this list and check off what is done and make a link to the pic.

6.) In the comments for your art work note if it is part of the list and what ONE theme it is.

Now the good part. CHALLANGE YOUR FREINDS. PM ME IF YOU WISH TO CHALLANGE ME.
I MISS PHOTOSHOP. It's probably my second-favourite program ever, and I haven't been able to color for almost two weeks now. (And before that was finals.)

None of you know of a "free trial" version, do you? Please? I only need it for a week, then I'm off to Orange and have costume sewing to do...

I had a very strange dream last night.

I started out in a Place. It was a perfectly normal place, mundane, somewhere you wouldn't think twice about being - except, I've never been to it in real life. It looked like some sort of public swimming pool, small, with a big deck and nothing was actually getting wet. There was something about a lot of soda nearby, too. (This is important.)

Along the back/left wall (I only faced two directions in this room in this dream), the wall became a soft, stretchy membrane, like a stretched-out balloon, except it never broke. There was a gap in one corner, and I, curious as ever, pushed through it. And this is the part I like.

It was a small room, spanning the length of the original, but only about half as wide. The actual dimensions were small, but somehow, it wasn't cramped. There was almost no light, but I could still see splashes of red everywhere. But the most important part was the people.

They were all over the little room, people I had met before - in fact, some of them had been in the other room a few minutes previously. They were easy to see, not shadowed at all, even though there was no light source. One of them sticks out in my memory; she greeted me like normal, but then she added, "So, you made it."

By entering the room, it seems, I had passed some sort of test. I don't really know what the test was for, or why it involved something that was, to me, so simple. But even so, something had changed. They were like some sort of secret club that had existed long before I met any of them, and now, passing through the membrane, I was a part of it

I only remember small pieces from the rest of it; for example, the soda. Remember the soda I mentioned earlier? The same person who greeted me was moving the soda with me; I remember following her across a street and dropping it in the back of a truck. I wanted to get back to the room, but my soda-moving trip was completed by the raucous call of my alarm clock.

If you even made it this far, you're probably thinking, "...why the hell is she telling me this?" Well, two reasons. One, because it's just the type of thing I would post on an artsite journal. And two, because it's something I'd want to turn into a piece of fiction, or gain proper documentation of, and I can't really do that if I forget.

I'll be back to edit this.

Someone else has already explained it pretty well, but for those of you following along at home: There was a defection. At least, that's the best word I can think up for it. They didn't really "disown allegience to one's country," but they did leave one group to join another.

It is done. I have suffered through the last-minute packing rush, being strangle-hugged by random relatives, sitting down for fourteen consecutive hours while flying at several hundred miles per hour, following around random smiling flight attendents while they ask about everything you bring... etc.

I am in AUSTRALIA!!!!

So, what is so different about it? Well, I shall start with the big stuff and work my way down.

First of all, the stuff we all know. Koalas, kangaroos, platypuses, and all those funny bush creatures. But what you don't know is the cicadas, and other nasty bugs that invade your house.. 24/7, buzz buzz buzz. Cockatoos, too- those big expensive white birds- fly around wild, all OVER the place. And yes, kookaburras really do laugh. "Kaa-kaa-kaa-kaa-kaa." They're nice looking birds, but they sound drunk.

Second of all, the population. There are less people in the entire country than in the state of California- 20k to 25k, respectively. And if you know this fact, you see signs of it everywhere. Like the news- stories about someone's unusual sheep creep their way onto TV every so often. And people are a little more willing to start a conversation. It's nice, really.

Also, since we're in the southern hemisphere, I can go outside and get a tan while you stay home and freeze. HAHAHA! Billabong is a strong brand of bathing suits, surfwear, and normal wear, so now I will become a trendsetter and bring it over to the states.

I could go on and on about the little differences, but howabout a few handicaps: all the new fancy technology has to be filtered through America before it comes out here. No lemonade- which is what they call sprite and other clear sodas like that. Also, there are fewer donut shops. About four per country, but luckily, one of them was at the airport- we got about three boxes. Yummy.

Oh, and if you want every detail from light switches to Hi-5, send me a note. This computer has no IM as of now.

Long story short: My life has been spinning out of control. This is the first time I've ever had a fight of this scale, so I'm not really sure how to handle it. I am trying to handle it maturely, but if they won't cooperate, then I cannot apologize. And it beats me up.
I hate high school.

Well, I didn't draw myself... I drew an animal head at 3/4 angle. This is so sad- I used to never be able to draw those. Now no other angle I draw works. And, furthermore, they can only be looking at a point over the viewer's right shoulder- never the left.

Hard to believe I've lost so many skills as I gained one.

*sigh* Well, this pic turned out decent. It was actually my first 3/4 angle head, then I lost it and drew more, then I found it, screamed in horror, and redrew. Now Voco has a pretty pic of her own. Pretty Voco...

Why did I eat all those brownies? Why? I'm supposed to be dieting so I can fit into a smaller skirt- they didn't have my size x.X That skirt will seriously hypnotize people. Very checkery.

What should I draw now? I cannot draw animal heads sideways anymore x.x maybe I will draw myself since I have no good pictures.
