Was calling up to pay my electric and gas arrears crap and got one of those darn machines 'speaking' to me. It was asking me for all the account numbers and verification crap and all I wanted to do was talk to a real person. I got very frustrated and shouted 'FUCK OFF!'. The machine went silent for a couple seconds, cut off from what it was saying before. Then it said something like 'I think you asked to speak to a customer services representative. Is this correct?' to which I replied with a very quiet and calm 'yes' and it put me through to a real human being.

Now I hate those automated customer service machine things but that did amuse me greatly.

Got a possible move coming up where I can go live in my girlfriends town and things gonna be even more expensive than I thought. My housing association wants to charge me £100 for moving out. I've barely got enough money to even move to the place as it is. The £100 is for some electrician and some gas guy to check the electric circuits and gas pipes and cap them off til the other person moves in which makes no sense as she'd move in instantly anyways as I'd be taking her place. This fee doesn't happen if I just move but it does with a mutual exchange which is what I'd be doing. Is nuts.

I needs some monies. Small commissions or anything I can do well and without too much pressure cos my stress levels are starting to go nuts again. I just want to freakin' move and live in Nottingham close by to my lady who I haven't seen in 3 and a half months and have me some fun and good times and get my health back and get a proper job again.

gaaaaahhh...

can't be bothered to write much but just few things on my mind lately.

1. 'Uncharted 2 - Among Thieves' has quickly become my most favorite game of all time. Gorgeous, fun, great characters and I'm still loving it even on my fifth playthrough. Love the online multiplayer too, even the deathmatch modes which have never really interested me probably because the majority of games that have that are first person shooters and that's one of my least favorite genres of gaming. Game of the year, decade and whatever as far as I'm concerned. Nothing else has come close this year. And unlike other games I've enjoyed this year I really just don't want to sell it after a couple weeks to get most my money back (and there were a couple games I hated enough that I sold within the week I bought them, ' Prince of Persia' and 'Fallout 3' being the ones I remember clearly with much disdain. Never want to play those again). Anyways, tis a keeper, especially for the co op missions (as long as you don't get teamed with an idiot who likes blowing up his team mates with grenades and rocket launchers, nnngh).

2. Been doing a fair bit of 'Hero - Celestial Force' work. Greatly improved the main enemy 'grunt' trooper character too. Looks far better and action-figure-worthy I think. Improved a decent amount of coding too and made other lil nice touches. Coming along well and more of my fave recent games are influencing me in it such as the aforementioned 'Uncharted 2' and others like 'inFamous' and the 'Ratchet & Clank' series. Basically I'm trying to take aspects of what I love about my favorite old games along with my modern faves for inspiration too. Hopefully it'll all come together into a nice game. The engine is good and it's fun to even just fly about and shoot stuff. Gotta make sure the level design is up to scratch else it'll just fall apart.

3. Thinking about doing some commisions to get a bit of extra money coming in to cover my martial arts fees. Not sure what to do. I know I certainly don't want to draw any licensed characters (I don't want to be adding the likes of Pokémon and Final Fantasy to my portfolio, cheers). Don't think my drawing skills are worthy enough to charge even a bit of money for but maybe I can do some pixels or something. Need to ponder it a bit more.

4. Too many damn vampires on TV and in the cinema lately. Too many zombies in video games too. They're not scary anymore and certainly not interesting. Bring back proper scary vampires. Not poncey ones that seem all nicely groomed and crap despite the fact they can't see their own reflections. Need a proper good werewolf video game again. There was a sorta fun platformer on the NES, and Yugo from 'Bloody Roar' is cool and of course Jon Talbain of the 'Darkstalkers' but I want a proper new game of turning into a wolf and going berserk, thanks. And not 'Altered Beast'. That game was always crap.

5. My girlfriend is awesome. No specific reason. Just in general. Go check out her gallery if ya like at [link]

Hmm, turns out I typed more than I thought I would.

Wish someone would do an updated custom firmware now the main guy DarkAlex seems to have quit. I don't want to give up my emulators and stuff but I really want to play the new games that require the latest firmware. Mainly this one...
[link]

I love LBP and the PSP version looks lovely and seems to have mostly all new content going by that video. Even new animations for the Sackpeople. Hope the custom firmware gets updated soon and I'll buy this game. It's only £17.99 from play.com. Looks to be a bargain. The game is developed here in Cambridge too. I've been past Sony Cambridge's offices many times. I hope that cute lil song on the video is actually part of the soundtrack. It's fitting and the PS3 game used it's own soundtrack songs in it's trailers too so it's likely.

Currently downloading the public beta of Uncharted 2 - Among Thieves multiplayer modes. I had the first beta back in June and have missed playing it since the beta expired. This new public one lasts til a few days before the game release. The first game is a big fave of mine and probably ranks in my top 3 of all time. The new one looks incredible and has a load of great features. The co op mode in multiplayer too is hugely fun and I was addicted to it in the first beta. This is my kind of modern game. Third person action adventure with plenty of moves and ways to kill your opponents, either with weapons or hand to hand combat. Yeah, I like to get in there and use my fists especially in co op with the two other players covering me with gunfire while I take out the enemies with brutal combos so they drop double the amount of ammo. Have pre-ordered the game and looking forward to getting it in mid-October. Got special edition for £32.49 from [link] using my Game reward points to knock £7.50 off the price. Just wanting the new beta to hurry up and finish downloading. Hopefully it'll work. I think I've messed up my router settings a bit where my PS3 is concerned. Can't seem to stay in a multiplayer game. Burnout Paradise keeps complaining about a firewall whereas it used to work flawlessly before. Hoping it's more to do with Burnout Paradise's servers and something they can fix soon. If it's on my end I have no idea what to do.

Why's it still saying I'm 29 here. The date of birth bit is correct but it hasn't worked out that it means I'm 30 now. Am I missing something?

Enjoying the heck out of the Blackest Night event in DC Comics Green Lantern and related stuff. Hugely entertaining.

Been playing Batman - Arkham Asylum on my PS3. While it's a really high quality game with great gameplay/graphics/voice acting/etc I can't say it's a favorite of mine. I can't work out why though. Nearly finished it anyways and I'll have me most of the trophies and put the game on eBay.

Found another martial arts club right nearby. It's a mixed martial arts thing and a couple of my karate buddies from my club go there too. I got to join in today with the sparring and it felt great so I'll be going regularly I reckon. I'm feeling a lot fitter these days and it shows both in my physique and I think the way I move. A lot less strain getting up off the couch

Went to dentist. Got to have a filling. Problem is I need £150 for a white one whereas silver is free but I have a thing about metal in mouths, and I don't even like using cutlery or anything for very long so to have a bit of metal stuck in my mouth for all my life is just gonna bother me like crazy so I gotta come up with the cash for the white one. Darnit.

Still working on Hero - CF and C.P.C. from time to time. Just finding it hard to concentrate due to neighbour issues again.

Since getting the 500GB hard drive installed on my PS3 I've been filling it up with things such as Linux (mainly to run emulators for SNES, Amiga, CPC and so on) and also all my mp3's and movie files. Been downloading a lot more old hard to find movies lately because that I have more storage space for them. Particularly little known or commercially failed animated movies. Stuff such as Rock & Rule, Heavy Metal and Titan A.E. I like this kind of western animation far more than 3D CGI movies by Pixar and their kind, and far more than anything from Japan in years (bar the odd piece of excellence usually by Miyazaki). Don't know why but it just entertains me more and my drawing style has been getting (thankfully) less manga-style as I been getting older. Still working on the art style for Hero - CF's portraits/cutscenes. Any bits you may have seen previously aren't likely to be used, mainly cos most of it's out of date anyways. Seems like most indie game developers these days (both amateur and the more professional ones) like doing either manga-lite stuff (you know the kind of 'manga style' you can tell clearly wasn't done by the japanese) or they do that simple almost abstract character sprite style seen in stuff like Cave Story or Fez or whatever the current majorly hyped thing is these days. Personally I don't like either. Even with the reasonably colorful palettes and 'cute' proportions of my Hero - CF sprites (which are more to do with getting the most out of small sprite sizes more than any cutesy look) I'm trying to get detail and a more edgy gritty feel to things cos that's just what I like. Been working on new Hero - CF tiles actually. Mostly for level 6, which means it could be ages before most people see them but reason I did some now is that I just felt like it. I got the creative spark to do that particular tileset so I did it while it was there. And I'm real pleased with how it's looking. Again it's got quite a dark but clear and defined look to it with some nice color usage. Had good feedback from the few people I've shown it to as well.

Anyways that's plenty of typing done. Enough for today.

Having great week with my girlfriend. Both have various health issues meaning we ain't been out and about much but we just enjoy spending time together. I love her plenty.

Green karate belts not in stock still so had to buy one of the same brand off ebay. Should be here by end of week. Bought the next color up (purple) from him too as well just in case. Not sure when the next grading is. The date on the site can't be right at all and there's no class during August either due to lack of people turning up during summer. Bleh. I practice most days myself and I'm pretty good at my new stuff anyways so when grading day does come around I should pass fairly easy I reckon.

Out of the latest PSN stuff I've bought some have felt like bargains and others not so much. Bought Shatter for £4.79 and sure it's a breakout clone but it's simply the best one I've ever played and it's highly addictive and superb value. I like that it shows the score of your highest ranking friend in the corner all the time yer playing too as more incentive to beat them. Good music too. Wipeout HD Fury was £7.99 and is an add-on to Wipeout HD, and yet it has enough new content in it to be it's own entry in the series. Really good stuff and I love that they added Eliminator mode to the PS3. Fat Princess on the other hand was £11.99 and to be honest I feel a bit ripped off. I'm bored of the game already and wish I'd learnt a bit more about it before I purchased it (didn't help that unlike a lot of games on PSN there was no demo at all). Doesn't seem to be all that much to do and the focus seems to be on online play which I can't really make that much use of yet due to a poor internet connection especially in the evenings. And why are all the trophies bronze?

Got right back into Ratchet & Clank Future - Tools of Destruction. Fantastic game and lovely to look at. Looking forward to the new one out soon too. Think it's second on my most wanted list after the incredible Uncharted 2 and just ahead of the PSP edition of LittleBigPlanet. Damn I love PlayStation.

Also been doing some new 16 color graphics for something too. Will upload a screenshot when I feel it's ready to be shown.

Got my next grading on the 13th. Bit nervous about it as I don't feel ready. What's got me motivated though (apart from having already paid for it) is I want the green belt. Green's my favorite color and a lot nicer than the yellow one I have now. Yellow's not very intimidating for a martial artist I think. Don't even understand why it's in this order... it goes white, orange, red, yellow, green, purple, purple with white stripe, brown, brown with white stripe, brown with two white stripes and then you go onto the black belts. Y'see why yellow seems odd there? It's the only place the colors get noticably brighter instead of getting darker. Ah well I won't have it much longer. Like I said I am nervous about it but I will pass it. I'm good enough. It's more that I'm still somewhat agoraphobic and the grading takes place in a sports hall on the other side of Cambridge rather than the local community centre I usually go to class in. I had a minor panic attack on the way to my last grading and while I still passed I was told I lacked confidence. Didn't feel like explaining that it wasn't the karate but just being out in the daytime amongst people that had got me feeling off.

Anyways I'll be fine and I'll be awesome and I'll get me that green belt.

Yeah I know my stuff is generally small and I've had a couple comments lately about that. It's pixels meant for games that run in resolutions such as 320x240 and people mostly view their webpages in all sorts of crazy high resolutions these days. Wouldn't be much of a problem had Firefox not gone crappy with it's blurring scaled images meaning you can't even use the Image Zoom extension properly anymore. Not my fault or my problem. Would think most people interested in pixelled sprites and images would have a program they can load in png's and animated gifs and zoom in without a problem. If not well don't complain to me anymore, go shout at Mozilla to sort out the blur thing and then you can zoom in and out of any image you choose while keeping the pixel clarity all sharp. Surprised it hasn't been done already. Used to view the bug topics about it on the mozilla forums a while ago. Wonder if they're any closer to fixing the biggest screw up Firefox has ever had.

Great game. Really enjoying it. I'm trying to be a Hero for the first playthrough, and when I've finished it once, I'll try be a total son of a bitch the next time and just kill eeeeverybody. Just finished the Neon District which took me about 7 hours or so. Looks like two more districts to get through. Took me a lil while to get into the story but I'm right into it now, though I hate the characters buddy Zeke. He annoys me greatly but then it's rare I find a 'humourous' character actually likable anyways. Still find the controls (grabbing onto bits of the environment) a bit fiddly at times but overall it feels fantastic. Certainly don't mind having paid £44.99 for the Special Edition version at all, particularly cos it came with the Uncharted 2 Beta code which will work from June 2nd apparently. Can't wait to play that too.

Only checking in once or twice a month is doing me some good. Certainly I get a lot less irritated. Same thing I do with many sites now.

Anyways what's new:
- Still working on Hero - CF. Keep rewriting code and adding new little details. It's coming along really well and I can't wait to have the first level finished and available as a demo.

- Still spending too much time on the PS3. Been replaying Wolverine a heck of a lot even though I finished it within the first day or so I keep replaying it just cos it is FUN...and bloody (and I want me that Platinum trophy, I'm getting closer to obtaining it). Have pre-ordered inFamous primarily for the Uncharted 2 beta code though having played the demo of inFamous it looks like I'll enjoy that too. Still loving LittleBigPlanet even if I still suck at creating levels. Having played some really amazing ones other players have done I just feel lame and in awe of how the heck they're doing these things. Also still playing a fair bit of Burnout Paradise, Street Fighter IV and Uncharted - Drake's Fortune and catching up on the PS3 adventures of Ratchet & Clank. All the time spent playing games on that console plus all the media stuff I use it for, certainly the best £300 I ever spent.

- Still not moved yet. My girlfriend Lianne has got a new job recently in a nursery and is looking for a nice quiieeeet house in her hometown of Nottingham and when that happens I'll move on up and things should be great. I miss her and can't wait to see her again.

- Can't wait for the Transformers movie sequel. Looks fantastic. Already got two of the new figures Bumblebee and Soundwave. Pre-ordered the amazingly movie accurate Leader Class Optimus Prime too.

- Looking forward to the Green Lantern - First Flight animated movie that's coming to DVD and Blu Ray. Hal Jordan is one of my favorite comic characters and this movie is directed by the talented Lauren Montgomery who did a fantastic job with the Wonder Woman animated film too.

'Uncharted - Drake's Fortune' is already one of my most favorite video games ever. Even just the well chosen controls and movements of the main character and how satisfying combat is with guns or fists make it a lot of fun for me, never mind the good story, great characterization and voice acting. Ok it's not a massive game but as soon as I got to the end I started it all over again just cos I enjoyed it so much. I knew I'd be looking forward to a possible sequel and was very happy to see it announced a short while ago. It's already looking fantastic and has some lovely new environments and features. The one thing I wanted more than anything else and didn't think would happen actually has. 'Uncharted 2 - Among Thieves' has multiplayer! Co-operative and competitive game modes are now present and are probably based around the usual deathmatch/capture the flag/etc that you get in most games but this is Uncharted and that means I'm gonna enjoy it. I loathe first person shooters mainly cos I find the viewpoint too restrictive and too claustrophobic. I enjoy third person view so much more as I get to see my character actually pulling off moves and jumping then clinging onto ledges and climbing and I can see where my feet actually are on a platform edge and I don't have to rotate the character around manually to turn and other stuff like that. I've wanted to have a game that feels like Uncharted but being able to play some modes with friends (or people I hate too) and it looks like its own sequel is going to give me that as well as the standard single player story mode which is likely to even be better than the original.

Anyways check out the video showing off Uncharted Multiplayer. I particularly love that bit about 1 minute 50 seconds in with one player helping up another to reach a sign above them. I'm not sure why but I just like that a lot.

[link]

I think the game comes out in September. Cannot wait.

The level of animation and detail on Bee is even better than in the first movie. The second half of the video is a montage of a lot of the other Transformers.
Got my replacement copy of Street Fighter IV today. Was without it for over a week as I seemed to have worn out my last one and the PS3 just wouldn't read the disc anymore to show it up on the menu. I called the Playstation helpline thing. They weren't much good. They said to try deleting my save game. I can't see how that would help as it's not the game failing ingame it's the game failing to even be identified on the PS3's XMB which I reckon happens before it looks for the save file. They then gave me Capcom's number so I called them. They said I had to try testing the disc on another PS3. Yeah, cos I just happen to have spare £300 consoles laying about. The only local friend I have here has an Xbox360 so no luck there. Then Capcom said the only thing to do was to contact the retailer as the game has a 90 day warranty so I did so. Called Play.com and they simply just said to send the faulty one back to them recorded delivery (which they refunded me the cost for afterwards) and they sent out a new copy completely free which arrived today. See this is why I love Play.com. Cheap prices and great customer service. They did that when I accidentally bought two copies of Canis Canem Edit on my PS2 a couple years ago too. Refunded both the game and the recorded delivery charge. And they sent out another Phantom of the Opera CD for my sister at christmas as the first one got lost in the mail it seems. Always been helpful to me unlike some other companies I've tried customer service (BT especially are awful and STILL owe me money from last year they took out of my bank account without permission).

Anyways so I got me my SFIV back and I'm happy. Also finally got my Dual X-Arcade stick plugged into the PS3 (using two adaptors, one for the X-Arcade to PS2 and then I had to buy a PS2-PS3 adaptor) and it feels fantastic. Definitely how the game should be played. I'm very good with joypads on these kind of games but it just feels somewhat more satisfying with the big chunky arcade joysticks.

In other news, Hero - Celestial Force is coming along very well. Got the level glitches sorted and the layouts are getting there and I been doing more sprites and other nice little touches I suddenly realise I'm actually good enough to code. Also Ultimortal has something very nice coming for fans of his original Hero game.

Been thinking more of writing and drawing a small Transformers comic thing. Just one of those one page things like fan stuff Transformers Mosaics but I'm not sure I want to have it be part of that series. I'm fairly sure I want to centre it around my favorite character Carnivac, and possibly (depending on the timeframe or continuity) his buddy Catilla. I was thinking about which continuity to set it in. There's only really two I like. The original Marvel UK comics timeline(s) or the movie. Certainly none of the others appeal to me at all (I want nothing to do with Transformers Animated, as far as I'm concerned it's the new shitstain of the Transformers franchise). The movie stuff would offer me more freedom I think as I doubt these characters would ever appear in that continuity and I could just make up what they look like. The only real problem being coming up with authentically cool looking and highly detailed designs for the 'new' characters' to match the fantastic movie aesthetic. Not easy. The main problem whatever style I choose though is... I'm a terrible writer. I don't have the first clue how to script things or come up with great dialogue. If anyones reading this and is a good writer and has some tips I'd like to hear them. The format being one page makes things harder but I think it's a good limitation. I don't want things to suddenly sprawl on my first attempt and become page after page after page.

Anyways... happy easter to those of ya who give a crap. I'm here with my girlfriend again having a good week. We're likely to kill my neighbors together. Good fun!

Power was there but it would get stuck at the manufacturers page and wouldn't work for ages. Seems ok now but I don't trust it. Hard to focus on something yer creating on it when ya feel it could turn off and ruin the concentration.

Anyways had me a great week. The big thing I had mentioned before was that I had my new girlfriend come stay with me for several days. Her name is Lianne and I met her on this very site and had been chatting a heck of a lot nearly every day and decided we liked each other plenty and have lots in common and so she came to visit on Monday and yup we get on amazingly great in person too. Really, really great. Totally besotted with her and she seems to like me plenty much too It's great to have a cute, sexy, quirky, creative, arty girlfriend who's into a lot of the same tv shows, music and movies I am into. To make this relationship really work I'm gonna move up to Nottingham (nothing for me here in Cambridge anyways and she's got family and her lil daughter up there) once I find a place there I can move to easily so I can see her all the time, and heck the way it's been going we've talked about how cool it would be to just live together. Certainly the last few days have been incredible and this apartment now feels very empty and lonely now she's not here.

Man, I'm in love and it sure never felt like this before. Got that spark I been always wanting but never thought would happen and it sure makes the crap (idiot neighbours being one crappy thing) more tolerable. Yup. 2009's been pretty damn good so far.

By the way check out my lady's art at [link]

Usually I find website changes tend to be worse or overcomplicated but I gotta say I do like this new DeviantArt a lot. Seems extremely easy to use and flexible.

I've got right back into commercial gaming again thanks to my PS3. Some games on it have kept me hugely entertained lately such as the fantastic Uncharted : Drakes Fortune, Burnout Paradise, Folklore (amazingly an RPG sorta game that's actually got me hooked which hasn't happened since Secret of Mana on the SNES), GTAIV and the totally charming and fun and seemingly unlimited LittleBigPlanet. Several games on the PSN store have been very enjoyable too including Super Stardust, Crash Commando, Magic Ball and High Velocity Bowling. Only thing that could really increase my enjoyment further is getting myself a HD TV. Modern games seem to just expect you own one and have tiny fonts which look blurry and hard to read on my current TV. There are still quite a few games I still need to get and I'm definitely looking forward to Street Fighter IV, God of War III and Uncharted 2.

My Cosmic Prison Commando demo was pretty buggy and seems to not even work on some peoples PC's at all throwing up some problems that just made no sense at all. Will need to figure that out as I think the same thing will happen with all my games as I use the same sorta system for them all. I've been revamping the old Booze N' Balls game too. Graphics are more polished and the gameplays altered slightly. Currently trying to revamp the whole engine too. Been a while since I worked on it, and the platforming code I've been doing in Hero - CF and C.P.C. is much smoother and more professional so I'm trying to rewrite BnB's code to match.

Something big is happening to me this week and I hope it goes well. Bit nervous about it but I want to see how it goes. Will write another journal at end of week if it does work out alright for me.

Went to a cousin's wedding yesterday. Hadn't seen him or his sister since 1995 so was kinda weird to see them all grown up and him getting married. Good day though even if there were a couple slightly disturbing things. Hadn't been to a wedding since I was about 14 or so, so it's was nice to get the chance to go. Ceremony took place in a castle rather than a church (never felt comfortable in churches... like I'd burst into flames or something). Might do that myself someday if I find the right lady.

Also the buffet was excellent. I'm back in my flat sat here feeling hungry wishing I'd filled my back pack up with spicy chicken and prawn vol-au-vents, and sausage rolls and lil sausages on cocktail sticks and large bread rolls and everything. yum.

Also... first time in yeeeeeears that I've worn what can be called 'smart clothing'. New trousers and a slightly two-tone blue longsleeve shirt. Felt... professional and all grown up

First, thanks again to Shonegold for giving me my third daily deviation this time for the Hero - Celestial Force screenshots from April. Although I'm being obsessive compulsive again about thanking people for faves and replying to comments. Work will commence again on that when the RR contest is over and C.P.C. is finished (a lot of things I've been coding are needed for both games anyways so in a sense I'm still doing Hero - CF anyways cos I can just copy and paste a lot of bits )

Second, Rinku of Eo and Indiegames blog posted a good video showcashing 100 games in 10 minutes. The theme being that they're all games produced in Game Maker and goes to show that it's an incredibly capable program that can help a user create a whole range of different games. There's actually even more games I enjoy that aren't even featured in the video. That's just how many quality games there are. So when people look down on me for using this program for my own projects I guess I can show them this video and say, oi, shut up. Ain't what ya use but what ya do with it. And with GM ya can do a lot, and personally I doubt I'd even be making games if I didn't have it.

[link]

None of my projects are even close enough to finishing to appear in the video but Return to Sector 9 and Legend of Shadow do and I contributed some sprites to those so technically I do have stuff in the video

I was I got past some initial nervousness (from my old agarophobic and panic attack ways) and just did the moves and it turned out very well.

Also, lego batman is much fun. Lego games are generally fun, but this ones Batman for crying out loud

Also, I've gotta quite addicted to the Rocky Horror Picture Show both the movie and it's soundtrack. Just bugs me when people call me that when I've never used it as an actual username as such. Just dunno if I can be bothered to move everything. I'll lose pretty much everything but the images themselves right?

Hell, I dunno. Probably best to just leave this site completely. Always something on here that annoys me.

Have redesigned my website again, though the new pages are not yet in use. Still gotta just finish a couple of them and sort out the Media page. Have my website where I can just put the stuff I do and that should be it really. Focus more on offline things that I need to do.
Still haven't moved, still dunno when I'm gonna get to. I've starting running regularly again and I run up to the new building and check on it's progress every evening when it's dark. Gives me some motivation I find, and I keep running harder. Feels pretty good and helps take mind off the fact my current idiot neighbors are literally at war with each other with me right in the middle, all of downstairs neighbors windows have been smashed. Police were here most of last Sunday 'dealing' with it all.

Received my Black Arcee Transformers Movie figure today [link] Very happy with it and it comes with a lil Allspark (that I've blutacked to her hand). I've been good and not bought too many TF figures this year (hasn't been a lot I want actually since Hasbro seem to be winding down on the movie line in prepartion for the ultra-shit current animated series) but I splashed out a bit for this one as I already love the current purple one and thought the black version just looked so cool (looks even better when the yellow eyes are lit up). Seems odd that they've named it 'Black Arcee' rather than make it the Decepticon Flamewar [link] who was a dark repaint of Energon Arcee thus giving the movie Decepticons a female on their side. Bit of a missed opportunity there but still a great figure.

Also if you clicked the Arcee image I linked up there you'll see the cool Tardis USB hub I got with help from my ex Kristen who gave me the £5 voucher for Firebox.com. The light fades on and off and the classic Tardis sound plays, whenever you plug a USB device into the sides (or press the button on front to test). Is great.

Again also ya might notice the bottom half of the Silene figure from the Fewture range of Devilman figures. Got six of the characters I needed off ebay last week and they're quite difficult to find often so I was pleased with that haul When I'm finally moved into new place and I got all the shelves up I'll display all the figures properly and take pics then.

Been addicted to my PSP a lot again mainly due to getting The Warriors (love the movie and the PS2 version so now I got the portable version of the game too) and been replaying that a lot. Also been playing PS1 games on PSP thanks to the Poploader or whatever Sony call their official PS1 emulator stuff that's in the firmware. Fantastic stuff being able to play games such as Metal Gear Solid, Grandia, Bloody Roar 2, Klonoa, Alundra, R-Type Delta, Vigilante 8 and so on, on a portable device. Only problem with it currently is that it doesn't yet support true analogue control (you can use the PSP analogue stick but only mapped as the PS1 d-pad), which of course makes racing games such as Ridge Racer Type 4 and Gran Turismo quite annoying having to put up with digital control for steering. Hopefully Sony will update it some more and give us proper analogue support.

Not much else to say. My life still feels in limbo right now and waiting for that darn moving date. Is just good I got all these lil things distracting me from the shit and keeping my mind occupied.

I was originally supposed to have been moved a month ago tomorrow.

In other news I'm gonna do a Transformers Mosaic submission (if I can come up with a good lil short story). They're pretty cool one page fan comics set in any Transformers continuity and it's great seeing the wide range of art styles used. I've had a look at the gallery they have here on DA and I find myself preferring the quirky, dark, creepy, atmospheric art styles rather than the usual overdone Dreamwave looking stuff. Just been doing a few rough doodles to get some idea of a style I'd like to try. I want something that's a blend between the traditional old Marvel Comic style (Geoff Senior) but with an aesthetic closer to that of the live action Movie stuff as that's my favorite. Not easy though. It's what I originally was trying to do with that Movie Bumblebee sketch I did and I felt I failed at that but is worth trying again.

Well I haven't been here in over a month and I'm not back regularly but I just felt like writing here that it looks like I AM moving home around the 22nd February. I got told I have that new place I wanted and I've been there and seen the showroom version (my actual flat is yet to be completed) and it's lovely. Get me a balcony and a shower and everything. Compared to living in this crap hole I'm gonna feel like Bruce Wayne (being rich in a classy home, not the animal-theme costume fetish, although...). Walls feel thick and well sound-insulated. Place being all brand new has no holes and broken things. Only bad thing is theres no connection for phone or net currently and to get it installed it's gonna cost me a lot of money I don't have so I may be sometime without net access.

Anyways apart from that lil hitch the rest of stuff seems to be on the up and up. Just cannot wait to get moved in and settled and have my life actually progress for a change.

So yeah... cool.

Bloody hell theres a lot of deviations and messages to go through when ya aint been on DA for a lil bit...

New year seems like a good cut off point to start thinking anew. Trying to figure out where I wanna be heading in life. Still everything counts on this possible move. It's affected every single tiny aspect of my life being in this place and my hobbies and activities that would help distract me from the problems are no longer enough, some I've lost interest in, others I'm unable to continue. It's frustrating that I lost control of things and now feel like a prisoner in this place. It's hard to explain what's going on in my mind exactly but it's not good. Many things that seemed important this past year now feel trivial and insignificant and without anything to replace those I've lost that sense of purpose that I need. I'm really not sure where to look but I know that for me it cannot be found sitting in front of a computer most hours of the day, wearing headphones trying to block out the constant noise of this place. Suppose this is why people meditate.. to clear their mind. But it's near impossible to do that without some proper peace and quiet, and I've been wanting that peace for seven and a half years now. I think I need another time out from this site and the internet in general, perhaps only using it to keep in touch with my absolute closest friends. The few who've known me longer than the rest and have stuck with me through everything even when I haven't often been the same person. I may or may not shut down my own website. I haven't decided yet. Sure it's good to stay in practice, drawing and all that but I had let those projects become too much and then become more frustrated when I was unable to focus on them. Perhaps if I try take things easier, it'll all flow better. Either way I don't need to be online to do that.

Please don't write comments on this journal. I won't be around to read them until long from now anyways. Perhaps some of this stuff doesn't make sense to you, and to be honest that's not my concern. I just needed to get some stuff written down out of my head and also perhaps use it as an explanation for my absense. Hell, this could all be absolute crap and I may be here sooner posting up whatever bit of crap drawing I did in a spare half hour. But right now this is how things are feeling to me and I gotta take some time off.

Hope everyone who reads this has a happy new year. Keep up the good work and producing great pieces of art. I'll see ya around sometime.

That's been on my mind a lot over the last few months. I don't feel I do pixel art as such. When I think about actual pixel artists people like Fool and Snake or Buloght pop into my mind (I'd link those names to their Pixel Joint galleries if I wasn't so tired). Those who seem to be able to create large images full of detail and character with expert technique. Basically stuff ya would love to have hanging up on your walls if they existed as actual physical paintings I suppose. I don't think I have it in me to be able to do that kind of thing, but then I think that's because I don't want to. The debates about what is and what ain't pixel art over the years have been getting to me too. Now I don't use blurring or auto antialiasing or even much in the way of transparencies. Any transparencies in my work tends to come from being screenshots of my game projects in progress, where shadows and lighting effects are blended or made transparent by the game engine though again I don't tend to use that much and I haven't posted anything in this places pixel art section that was an ingame shot using those functions.

Basically I like to see myself as just someone who likes making games and creating the art for them in the old fashioned 80's/early 90's ways because that still is my favorite era of gaming whether on the 8 bit consoles/computers like the NES or Amstrad CPC or on the 16 bits like the Amiga, SNES and Mega Drive. I don't recall people ever using the term ' pixel artist' back then. You were just the graphics artist or graphician or whatever. Didn't seem to be until the advent of 3d rendering sprites during the 90s that there started to be terms actually needed to be used to distinguish one kind of game graphics technique from another cos of the vastly different skills needed to create those graphics.

I don't feel like I want my pixelled stuff to be in the pixel art sections of any site to be honest. I just don't feel like that's what I do. I never wanted to be a great ' pixel artist'. Just wanted to make the kind of games I enjoyed in the past that don't seem to get made all that much anymore and having the graphics resemble that era is what I enjoy doing best whether I'm trying to simulate the 8 bit era (like the NES-inspired, not accurate, style of my Hero project) or the more sorta 16 bit stuff like Eagles Nest and Switchblade (ok so those two are in 640x480 res and do have blended lighting which I guess makes them more like 32bit games but with 16 bit pixelling techniques).

Basically I think I just wanna make games is all. Not great art. Just good enough to remind me of happier gaming times I suppose. If I ain't a ' pixel artist', I'm not sure what my label is. Would say '2D oldschool games graphician' but that's a bit long and I never liked the word 'oldschool' much...

Thems just my thoughts anyways.

Ok I was hoping to like this. Despite the terrible character designs. I thought that like Beast Wars (which I didn't like the designs or the CGI and still don't but love watching the show anyways) it would win me over with strong characterization and great writing. It didn't... not even a bit. In fact it's probably the worst cartoon I've seen in years. It's a complete joke and seeing the brief bit of the G1 cartoon at the beginning just reminded me how much better that old show was and I'm not even that much a fan of the old cartoon. It seems to want to honor the old stuff (even the future versions of the Witwicky's make an appearance) but it just feels like it's chucking that stuff in there to try and win over the old fans and try to distract them from the complete awfulness of this show.

Every single annoying aspect of crappy 'americanime' can be found in this show. And the voice acting is the same dire pathetic crap that plagued the english versions of Armada/Energon/Cybertron except they no longer have the excuse that they're just dubbing over an already voiced show.

The whole direction of this show just stinks and it seems to want to be a poor superhero show instead of the usual military inspired themes of previous incarnations, and this just does not work for the Transformers. Ok maybe I'm just too old for this show but I've usually found something to enjoy in other modern shows, with Justice League Unlimited being by far the best cartoon in terms of writing, plotting and actually being able to appeal to kids and adults. Shame that cartoon network treated that show like shit. TF Animated is basically Teen Titans with robots and I hated the Teen Titans show to begin with (looking forward to the new animated Teen Titans movie though as it's apparently not related to the tv show and should hopefully be a vast improvement).

Cheers Hasbro... by allowing this total garbage and the constant movie toy redecoes you're killing my interest in Transformers and probably gonna save me some money.

What a total waste of time this show is...

Things on the shelf by that wall have moved too due to the vibration. Called environmental health, and they just said they can't do much because it's the afternoon and not night time when this would be 'really unacceptable behavior'. So apparently I'm not allowed anything remotely like peace and quiet on a Sunday afternoon to watch a movie or draw or read a book or do anything at all.

Just lil update to get the crap off the main page.

This weekend just been doing a mini platform game using a major recolor of my CPC character (who was in 3 colors, now 16) and set in a sorta bar. Gameplay should be sorta like Rick Dangerous except less frustrating (but hopefully as addictive).

For those who don't know I did change 'Hero - Prelude's name to 'Hero - Celestial Force' so to be clear, it is not another new game, just a new name for my current project. For some reason the name change got mentioned on the tigsource forums (I found that out cos my site stats show people coming from a link there). Didn't realise it was news worthy enough for it's own topic on a forum I don't even go to. I do feel a bit crap though, like theres more pressure to get the game (or playable demo) done sooner.

I loved the Children In Need Doctor Who mini, Time Crash, with the 10th Doc meeting the 5th. Davison always was one of my favorite Doctors so I was darn happy to see him portray the role on screen again (I listen to the Big Finish audios too), and I geeked out when Nyssa (my joint first fave companion along with Sarah Jane) got a mention Was a well written scene that had a decent amount of references to the classic series and I liked how the change in the Tardis control room's appearance is mentioned as a 'desktop theme'. Not sure I'd wanna see the 'leopard skin' theme that was mentioned though

Thanks to Shonegold for featuring my Werewolves in London piece as a Daily Deviation and to those who have faved it.

Hopefully better class of neighbours (no druggies and chavs and crap) and peace and quiet. Really hope I get accepted for it as it would change my life considerably for the better. Maybe I can then finally heal up all nice and get back to work and make some money and new friends and basically just start having a proper life again.

My shelves getting too crowded with TF figures and honestly I just wanna keep my movie ones (as they be my faves), my Classics and the various G1 figures I'm still fond of. So I'm selling off some which don't fit into those categories.

Ok, so any fans of the character Hot Rod and his Matrix enhanced self Rodimus Prime may be interested in the first auction I have put up on ebay at [link]

Winning bidder will receive Titanium Rodimus Prime, Mega SCF Hot Rod, Energon Rodimus and the lil scene figurine of Hot Rod and Arcee up against Devastator. The listing goes into them with more detail. It says there only UK bidders and I'd like to keep that if possible but if someone really wants them and bids high enough then maybe I can work something out (finding out different postage rates for different areas is a bitch)

My website has gone down since Sunday morning (british time). Technically all the files are there but it just ain't accessible. Niether is the site of my friend who's webspace I was using too. He can't see whats wrong with it and we've both just got fed up of that crappy host so he's cancelling his account there and will be likely getting some other one in a few weeks. I'm looking into getting webspace through the Retro Remakes site and hopefully will be hosted there. I have also last night registered a domain name. Instead of that old [link] stuff that made no real sense, it's now simply going to be just [link]. Easy to remember now, eh? The name is bought and paid for so you can update your bookmarks to there. Gonna be a lil while before the other users who don't read this here DA thing to find the place. Probably when google catches the new site address anyways.

In other news, I love my new phone. Finally upgraded from an old Nokia 3410 to a N73. So I too now can take pictures on my phone and have a color screen like everyone else. I like the media player on it too and not only does it run emulators for NES and Gameboy it also does Gameboy Advance pretty well. Was playing TMNT and Metroid Zero Mission on the bus home. Ok yeah that's what a GBA does, allow portability, but my GBA SP got stolen, and this is more compact and lets me have a ton of roms without swapping carts around. Bit awkward controls but it'll do fine til christmas when I get my PSP Slim.

Had my girlfriend stay the week last week as it was half term at the school she works at so a week off for her. Was great having her here for so long, even if it was difficult for me sometimes due to the way this place stresses me out and it's hard to pretend otherwise for so long. Was just nice having someone else here though the neighbours were a damn pain that first weekend, and she couldn't sleep either. She went back home a few days back to get ready for her job again. I do miss her here. I introduced her to several shows and movies too, such as Garth Merenghi's Darkplace (she seems to really like Sanchez, especially when he sings the 'One Track Lover' song), My Name Is Earl (she loves this especially cos she's into sweet stuff and that shows all about trying to be nice and make up for bad things), and I have her my DVD's of 24 Season 3, Lost in Translation (I like the movie but I think she loved it more so I let her keep it) and she enjoyed the Spider-Man movies (and we have now dubbed it's star 'Toblerone Macguire' after the fact we ate a lot of that chocolate while she was here). Things going well in this relationship. Just wish I lived nearer to her, perhaps actually in her lil quiet village. Though I wonder how quiet it's gonna be there now people been saying Johnny Depp's bought the big house near hers.

I've been nominated for a new flat. But the place ain't finished being built and who knows what it'll be like to live in. Sound insulation is meant to be a lot better and they say a better class of people are being chosen to move in, so hopefully no noisy druggie losers. Don't look like it'll be done til February though. But hell, even if it's shit, it's new shit and not the same old shit. Could work out.

Anyways hope everyone else is cool.

EDIT: Ok website is now up and running at the new address [link] and I've transferred the forum over too I think completely. Feels nice to have a new home (on the net anyways... maybe soon I'll have a real new home, eh?)

I've started painting up my Leader Class Movie Optimus Prime figure. It's a big job but looking cool already. Am not looking forward to painting up the Leader Class Megatron. That's a huuuge job and I'll have to buy some more silver paint...

Been working on my game too but I just can't concentrate on thinking up actual creative graphics and locations...

Just felt like writing. Not much to say though. Did that werewolf piece for the pixel joint weekly challenge. First one of those I've ever entered.

Bought Marvel Ultimate Alliance last week on my PS2. Already own the previous X-Men Legends 1 and 2 but this entry in the series blows those both away. Graphics are better, controls are better, tons of characters to be with 4 costumes for each so you can even be your fave version of that character (for example I can't stand regular Thor in the comics but I love Ultimate Thor... cept his voice in this game don't really suit him). The team functions are great and I like how specific line ups are recognised as actual team ups from the comics. The levels are more interesting too with some God of War style boss encounters and some odd 'mini games' such as the Breakout, bumper cars and authentic Pitfall versions in the Murderworld stage. So yeah overall a great game, cept for the fact I think I've nearly finished the main story mode already...and I have no friends nearby to play the game in even 2 player let alone 4 players...

Watched the Sarah Jane Adventures on Monday. Ok it's a kids show, but it's still Doctor Who related and it's focused around one of my favorite of the classic companions and it's actually a lot of fun and feels like a very highly polished production. Also Elisabeth Sladen is looking pretty fine fine for 59 years old. Still got a crush on her from watching her stories in the 70's with Tom Baker and one of my fave Doctors, Jon Pertwee.

Been painting up some more of my Transformers. Focused again on a couple of the movie ones, in particular Ironhide who needed some more details painted up. It's actually incredible how much fine detail are in on the molds that don't show that well on the 'freshly bought from store' figures. It's quite fun to paint them up too and &#039ersonalise' your figure. Even just adding that subtle metal shine to them all makes them look classier.

Christmas preperations already begun. Asked my folks and sis what they'd like for christmas but none decided yet. My niece is sorted apparently. My mom bought something for her that I can pay for and claim as my present to her. Apparently it's a Bratz doll (bleurgh) but dressed as Spider-Man (woo!)... not seen it and it sounds bizarre but what the hell. If it makes my lil niece happy it's fine. I got asked what I'd like and first on my list is a PSP Slim (had asked for a PSP for my birthday last month but then changed my mind once I heard about the new one that has now just come out). Looking forward to getting that for my portable playstation needs and general media functions (be able to watch my downloaded TV shows in the peaceful meadow away from this noisy flat). Also asked for Transformers DVD from my sister, and if either her or my folks wanna get me the Leader Class Brawl figure from the movie range then would be much appreciated

Things still going cool with me and Kristen despite the differences in upbringing and environment. Dunno if it's loooove love yet but we do enjoy spending time with each other and all that. It's good. Without her I'd be feeling pretty darn lonely right now I reckon, but that ain't the reason why I like her. She's cute and non-judgmental and smart and helpful and always smiling and friendly. So why she wants to be with a grouchy non-social stinky freaky like me is a mystery but one I'm glad about.

Watched Superman : Doomsday. Enjoyed muchly. Good to see Superman finally getting to kick some animated ass after being always held back in other shows. There are apparently two more DC animated features after this. A Teen Titans one (hopefully nothing like the show I can't stand) and Justice League - New Frontier (based on Darwyn Cooke's superb Silver Age re-envisioning). Watched the new season opener of The Batman. Was ok. Last season was a big improvement over the first three but I felt it lost it a bit again halfway through. This episode was ok and featured Superman and his supporting cast (oddly voiced by the Justice League voice actors.. which just made me miss Kevin Conroy's Batman even more). Amused at how much the animated Clark Kent resembles Brandon Routh's in appearance too. Reminds me... Smallville starts again on US tv tonight. Love to see how this 'Bizarro' thing plays out when I find a torrent site I can grab it from (my regular site Demonoid is having some major issues this week it seems)

Finally got around to reading some comic runs I had on my PC which included the Ultimates (finally...

Hope my gallery has more variety to it now. Was originally just pixel art, but since adding some drawings and trying to (very slowly) improve my bad digital coloring 'skills' and my first attempts at repainting figures (haven't yet put up Transformers movie Swindle yet but I want a better camera to use first) maybe my artyness is branching out a bit. Ok might be better with pixels than anything else, but practice makes perfect right? Really enjoying the painting and customising figures though.

Thing thats bugging me right now is... I forgot that even a few days away from DA is enough to build up a massive load of deviations and messages to go through. Sure theres great stuff in there but damn...

no wonder I'm losing interest in gaming if those are regarded the top 10 of all games ever...

I'll have me Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Super Metroid in my top 10 and yeah I like RE4 and Tetris but maybe not that high up...

but no way in hell will I have dull Half Life 2, boring Halo, Final fuckin' cliché Fantasy VII and the-single-most-overated-piece-of-tedious-trash-EVER Ocarina of Time....
