Paper Siri: I have started a little side project called Paper Siri.  All of the items (magnets, jewelry, cards and more) have been made out of my handmade iris paper.  The colors are all created by dripping, squishing, grinding and layering all parts of the iris flowers that I collect from my garden.

Back from LA and Chicago....phew!  What an amazing adventure, and I am so grateful to Nathan at the Hive Gallery for the experience, Mark for making everything run so smoothly during what could have been a crazy headache of a week and for being such a fun travel companion, Libby for the laughs and conversation at the Field Museum, and my Sis and Bro for their love support and of course, for my nephews!  Over a week since I painted, but ready to hit the easel soon!

1. I really enjoy repetitive situations like sorting buttons or putting gold foil flakes on objects(like on the folding screen I'm working on).  I can do that stuff for HOURS and when I am not doing it, I am thinking about doing it.

I created this set-up for the reference photo using the same doll and beetle from "My Best Friend."

A quick sketch to get the placement.

Blocking in color.  Trying some new Nova Color Paints. Emerald (pearlescent) in the background, Portrait Tone on the skin, and (I think) Indanthrone Blue on the ground.

Adding a "wash," well, more of a scrap of blue over the emerald background, and defining some of the shapes and shadows.

Starting with a sketch.  At this point, I want it to be a disturbing interior, surrounded by decorative elements.

So I spent a ridiculous amount of time painting on these flower silhouettes.

A quick sketch for placement.  My original thought for this piece was to show a young girl that was perhaps too sheltered and protected and had almost outgrown her space.  I wanted the tree to echo this idea with cramped roots and large branches.
