Now after watching the first episode of the new season, I'm really annoyed. Feel good and move on from there. Inks are done. I think I'll post the whole thing, complete with colors and lettering, to DA when it's done. I'll probably also sell some copies, if anyone's interested.

I haven't looked at these pages in a couple days, and when I went back to 'em, the three I posted stood out as my favorites. I'd like to imagine I tried some new things for me. Trying to call on my inner Walt Simonson.

It's been about a year since my last post, and what a year it's a been. Without going into too much detail, I've been through some art classes (the bulk of the works produced in those classes that I feel like sharing are up in my gallery). I've illustrated my first serious attempt at a comic book (colors and letters forthcoming) which I plan on printing, because, damnit I want to see it printed. I've done some freelance illustrator work (which unfortunately I can't yet share on here) and can say with a smidgen of authenticity that I am, in fact, an illustrator. I should be working on some of that right now, in fact, but here I am posting this. Whoops! I started listening to (and love love love LOVE LOVE) some great podcasts about art and illustration. (Big Illustration Party Time, Ninja Mountain, Art and Story, Art and Story Alive!, Art and Story EXTREME!!, Chris Oatley ArtCast... Chris is actually here on deviant art. Check him and his awesomeness out. All available through iTunes, too.)

I moved in with my girlfriend. I am close to convincing her that we need a cat (maybe). I got hired full time (and I mean fuuuuuuull time, 50 hrs a week) at my day job, which pays nice but isn't art, so won't be forever. I've started running at least three times a week. I have real running shoes with insoles that I invested lots of money in so I would feel too guilty to not run. I sleep about five or six hours a night. Someday soon I will get a new computer. Someday soon I'll make some other large purchase that are frequently in my thoughts these days.

I have read lots of philosophy. I have talked lots of philosophy. I have made four new very good friends, lots of acquaintances, a plan that I will not stick to, a plan that I must stick to, and I've decided (as per the advice of one of the podcasters/acquaintances) to start putting myself, my art work, and my words out here on the internets.

I love comic books. Not so much the Marvel and DC stuff specifically (it's good, it's bad, it comes, it goes, but they make 'em so fast people hardly have any time to think about story telling, panel composition, etc). Just comics in general. And making comic books. If anybody out there just wants to talk comics or illustration, hit me up. If you feel nervous about the breadth of your knowledge, I gotta tell ya, I don't care one way or the other how much you know. I just wanna talk some comics with somebody who loves 'em. If you know tons and tons and tons and think you might be able to spare an ounce of time or advice, that's awesome, 'cause I just wanna talk some comics. If your brother won't stop doing terrible crayon doodle stories on everything you own even though he's forty two and you wanna vent about it, that's great, because that's close enough to talkin' comics for me.

What are you ideas? (You don't have to be too specific, if I were spouting to a virtual stranger I wouldn't wanna give my stories away to someone who might take 'em, but I love to chat about ideas for, you guessed it, comics.) What do you love to draw? Who are your influences? Put up some links! What do you want to learn about? Do you like drawing stories, other people's stories, your own stories? Do you want to start? What are you wondering about? Think I should work on something in my artwork? Tell me!

I hereby solemnly promise to respond to every person who responds to this, to strike up a dialogue, to look at every link you post (unless, y'know it's spam or a virus or something), and to just talk some shop. If that sounds like your cup o' tea, then post away. If not, post anyway. You'll find I'm reasonably likable, mostly well-meaning, and that I'm a complete dork for comics.

Featuring AFL updates, a little personal info., and something brand new: Commissions!

If you are interested in commissions and not life info, scroll to the bottom of this journal.

First up, AFL news! I apologize to that it's taken me so long to churn out my round four piece, but I assure you all, it's coming. I will post it later today or this weekend, assuming more life badness doesn't happen.

Which brings us to our next subject, life badness. It's been a very rough month for me on a personal and financial level. I finally paid off some old debts, was forced to defer my student loans for another year, am moving in with my girlfriend on the first of October (and I am very excited about it, but moving is always costly), am still waiting for reimbursement from the insurance company for a simple (yet expensive) medical procedure I had done, have had available hours cutback at my current job, have interviewed for two fulltime positions within my company and gotten neither of them, and through it all have not yet managed to pay the internet bill.

So, it's been a little rocky. The goods news is I do have a figure drawing class at the Art Institute of Chicago that I begin on September 8th! I am super excited about it, and I hope to continue taking classes in the city and improving my artwork. And I really want to share what I do with all of you long time and recent watchers. I always appreciate all of your views, favorites, critiques, and comments. It may sound slightly needy or attention-craving, and maybe it is, but all of your words definitely have helped me to continue on my journey to become a better artist.

All of that said, it's a tight belt kinda time in life, and I don't want to do stop doing artwork, so I have finally allowed myself to start taking commissions. Although I don't expect a huge number of them, I still thought I would offer a promotional rate throught the end of September. Everything helps.

So commission info is as follows.

Those who order will recieve a high resolution scan of their artwork, as well as the original sent to them in the mail. • Is there a fan in your room?: Thank god, yes.

G
• Do you chew gum?: Not really.
• Do you like gummy candies?: Love 'em. I once fit a six-foot long gummy worm in my mouth.
• Do you like gorey movies?: Dig 'em. Especially if they're zombie movies.

H
• How are you?: Tired and achey, but happy.
• What's your height?: 5'9"
• What color is your hair?: Dirty Blonde

I
• Whats your favorite ice cream? Cherry Garcia or Chocolate Fudge Chunk. Depends on what mood I'm in.
• Have you ever ice skated?: Hah. Right. I fall down walking on dry pavement on a cloudless spring day when birds are singing and everything in the world is going right. I'm not tempting fate.
• Ever been in an igloo?: A plastic one.

K
• Who do you want to kill?: Nobody really. But I'd love to maim some people so their exteriors matched their rotten insides.
• Have you ever flown a kite?: Hells yes. Then I watched my friend throw it straight into a post.
• Do you think kangaroos are cute?: Yeah, especially with their external wombs. Way to flaunt your stuff, marsupials.

L
• Are you in loooove?: Completely.
• Lions or tigers?: One predator steals food from cacklig dogs. One is so stealthily terrifying that it has encouraged people to wear masks on the back of their heads to fool it into thinking they can see it coming. Tigers.
• Do you like black licorice?: Blech. No.

M
• Favorite movie as a kid?: Ghost Busters. Hell, that's still my favorite movie.
• Ever shopped at Moosejaw?: Nope.
• Favorite store at the mall?: Depends on what I'm shopping for. I like Express for Men's shirts. I kind of love the Discovery store.

N
• Do you have a nickname?: 2Boss.
• Whats your favorite number? Numbers and I don't get along.
• Do you prefer night or day?: Day time when it's day. Night when it's summer. No, that's not a typo.

O
• What's your one wish?: Aliens.
• Do you like the color orange?: It's my favorite color of yore.

P
• What are you most paranoid about?: Everything. Zombies. Mugging. Enemy ninjas. Failure.
• Piercings?: None.
• Do you know anyone named Penelope?: Kinda wish I did.

Q
• Are you quick to judge people?: Well, when we're being honest with ourselves, who isn't? Tibetan monks who've spent decades in solitary mountain fortresses may have trained themselves to do one finger stands and never judge someone, but something tells me that ignoring pain and avoiding first impressions is dispensing with vital survival instincts.
• Do you like Quaker Oats?: Yup.
• Quilts?: My lady makes lovely handmade ones. I keep trying to convince her to take pictures and make a DA account.

R
• Do you think you're always right?: Usually think I am.
• Do you watch reality TV?: Top Chef rocks my face, until it falls off.
• Reason to cry?: There's a lot. Read the effing news.

S
• Do you prefer sun or rain?: Sun, because it's a proven fact that vitamin D is utterly necessary.
• Do you like snow?: Still has some magic for me.
• Whats your favorite season?: Spring and Fall. The extrems can go get bent.

T
• What time is it?: 11:37 pm.
• What time did you wake up?: 7:15 am.
• Any Tattoos?: None.

U
• Can you ride a unicycle?: No.
• Umbrellas?: I'm not really the sort of guy who runs out and buys an umbrella when it's raining. I'm not really the sort of guy who runs out and buys one because it might rain. I'm more the sort of guy who gets wet when water falls from the sky.

Things that are more than meets the eye

First and foremost, and probably the reason why anyone who reads this clicked on the link in the first place, Transformers. Man that movie was great. I have never seen such successfully seemless integration of CGI and live action, and plus, I love the Transformers. 'Nuff said.

Second thing that is more than meets the eye. July 6th. This past Friday. A seemingly ordinary post Fourth of July Friday, but in fact, it is my birthday. So that's exciting. I'm a whopping 23 years old now, which means I have lived two years longer than I ever thought I would. Hooray for me.

Third thing that is more than meets the eye: my stomach. It looks like a normal stomach. For most of my life it has acted like a normal stomach. It has even earned the coveted 'normal stomach of the year award' several years running due to it's usual ability to remain completely unturned no matter what I do. However, this past friday, the 6th of July (my birthday) not but two days after seeing the movie Transformers, my stomach betrayed me. It was the worst sort of betrayal, where it won't digest anything, not even gatorade, or saltines, or water, or air and sends it all rushing back up, even if you ate it, say, when you saw Transformers two days ago. All weekend it has done this to me. I threw up (for the final time, I hope), this morning at about 4:00 am, which brings my regurgitory tour of my innards to a grand total of 10 upchucks in about 28 hours. That sucked. Keep this in mind, as I will come back to it in a moment.

A fourth thing that is more than meets the eye. The wall in the basement of my building that the main water line runs along. Or more specifically, that pipe. You can't always see it, but apparently IT'S FULL OF WATER. Shocking. But it is actually shocking when something goes horribly wrong with that pipe and suddenly you CAN see all the water, and you CAN'T take a shower.

A fifth thing that is more than meets the eye. This job I'm working. Teaching improvisational skills to kids in a summer camp in a suburb of Chicago. Looks like a job. Pays like a job. But commutes like a trek to the farthest corners of the earth. It takes two hours each way. On the train. Which doesn't get into traffic jams. Now, they want me to start going out all day long, instead of just for the afternoon session. More money is good, but I know the reason is because the camp director can't handle the kids and doesn't know what to do with the show that they're working on in the mornings to prevent it from being a trainwreck. Now, I'm a pretty artistic guy, I got a fancy degree in all things theater, and that's my career. I know my stuff. I could probably help the camp director stage some stuff, clean up blocking, uncrowd some dances, and get some of the kids to realize that they have a diaphragm and it helps you be loud. Heck, I'm technically skilled to. I could hang their lights, hook up their sound system, build their set and make sure the rest of the show looked pretty. But I just know that going up there early is going to be three hours of babysitting the problem kids in the morning, thus exhausting me AND the kids by the afternoon, which will turn into a further babysitting session as opposed to anything productive, which, in an ideal world, it was at some point. Plus I'll have to wake up at 5:30 every morning to get there. Which means, if I'm going tomorrow (which I am) that I should be in bed now instead of typing this. But everybody needs to unwind.

So, let's review. Tranformers: great. My birthday: fun. My stomach: traitorous. My water: off. My work: getting worse and starting earlier.

Tomorrow, still smelling faintly of vomit no doubt, I will rise from my nice warm bed at some ungodly hour to make ready to babysit the focus-challenged children of suburnanite households who don't know where to put them, which will not involve taking a shower, because I can't, and the whole time, I'll be wishing for a birthday redo in which I won't throw up and maybe I'll get to see Transformers a second time.

I've done a little credit card switcheroo thing, and it seems that my CoX account didn't get updated. I'll have to wait a bit to do that, then.
So, I got taged by BMZERO, which is, y'know, fun. Basically, this means that I write six weird things about myself, then tag the next six people who will write weird things about themselves. And I must be sure to leave a message on their main dev page that says "You are tagged!" or something to that effect, with a link to this journal.

Anyway...

1. I'm actor. I went to undergrad for acting, studied all sorts of techniques and accents and movement and stage combat and playwrights and theater history, and graduated in May of '06, and now I live in Chicago and try to be an actor. Why is this weird? Well, it isn't really, except that it's the set up to the weird thing, which is this: whenever I'm shopping, I've found the best way to get sales representatives to do exactly what you want, be that find you something or leave you alone, is to pretend to be Scottish. Works wonders.

2. I'm obsessed with Zombies. I have developed a Zombie contigency plan for every place that I spend time. If, when going to bed, I feel especially nervous that the Zombie Apocalypse may happen during the night that night, I have a crowbar that sleeps next to my bed. Named 'Lobo.' It's short for 'Lobotomizer.'

3. I'm from Georgia. I don't have an accent because my Mom is from New York and my Dad is from Boston, and people in Georgia north of Atlanta are from everywhere. Nevertheless, every time I mention I'm from Georgia, people freak out, go cross-eyed, fall over anime-style and say, "But you don't have an accent!!" accusingly, as if I will suddenly recant, and admit that I, in fact, am not from Georgia and was pulling their leg.

4. I have been knocked unconscious a total of four times in my life. Twice by myself, twice by someone else.

5. I could read a news article once and probably recite it back to you verbatim, but if you asked me to come up with the birthday of anyone who wasn't in my immediate family or my girlfriend, I'd be stumped. Memory is so weird.

6. Music generally classified as "emo" makes me laugh, so paradoxically, I tend to listen to it in order to cheer up. Like there's this one song by the Lovely Feathers when the dude cries in tune with guitar. Makes me laugh every time.

Ok, time for ze tags!
4. ~GammaGirl

5. ~ParagonGnome
