Soon, but not soon enough.

So, I've recently found a new job. Not in my educational background, since Edmonton sucks for 3D jobs, but nonetheless a job, it pays about 17$/hr for the first few weeks and then I get a boost in pay. I will be banking 8000$ as well as getting another 8000$ from my family for the trip. So as of, hopefully, January 1st, 2009 I will be moving to Japan I'm really looking forward to it.

The only thing I'll miss about Edmonton, is the sight of it in my window seat view, I've grown tired of this town and it's restrictions on new media art and catering too much to old styles of art.

Boooooooo!

For the past few weeks I've been motivating myself to make a new portfolio/demo reel, and I'm blocked. Every time I sit down and stare at Maya I can't even think of a thing to do. I have the standard walk cycle rendering out now, and a 360 spin of my guitar, but that only fills up about 8 seconds and it should roughly be about 2 minutes.

I've figured out a character model to do, which is Midna from Twilight Princess. Not the form she's in at the end of the game, but the one she takes on during the majority of the game. I'm not sure whether I want to rig and animate her or just leave her as a hi-resolution character model. I probably should have decided that at the start. Oh well.

I'm about 1/3rd done the body, I found some really great reference on ISOHunt where I could actually download the character models from the game and they were all set in the T-Pose. So you can't really get any better reference than that. I'll try and post something if I feel that it's even worth posting. I'll be re texturing her as well.

Anyways, I'm leaving my townhouse in a few weeks to move into a house a few blocks away with my brother, should be fun, I get alot more space than I do in the place I live now. It was a nice 2 years spent here, but I'll be glad to rid myself of some of the memories in this house.

On that note, I'm out.

Finally got off my lazy butt and built myself a website instead of using templates year after year. Forced myself to learn some java scripting, flash and CSS. I'm sure my code isn't the cleanest, I'm more or less knowledgeable in C++ but the site works and that's all that matters. Well it works on the latest versions of IE, Firefox, Opera and Safari. Which is really all that matters. It's still under construction as I have to re render a whole bunch of stuff. Also add some more links and what not to the navigation but it's a start.

I'm not trying to go all fancy and make a graphic intense site. I like clean designs with as little graphics as possible. I think I've achieved that, considering there's nothing more than my logo and my name in the banner. I might make a light, greyed out background for the contend region, but I doubt I will.

Anyways, it can be seen here [link] enjoy

Well, I'm actually getting off my lazy ass to revamp my demo reel. I'm pretty much scrapping everything in it. I've started off by modeling my guitar. I'm think about rigging the strings and possibly animating it playing the intro to a song, or maybe I'll just stick with a high resolution 360 animation of it. Not too sure yet.

Next I'm going to attempt a low poly character, not sure what kind, and do high resolution texturing in ZBrush3. Let's see how that goes. For now I just need to finish the guitar. Going to start back up on it on monday and hopefully have it finished by the end of the day.

Indeed it has been, I really haven't been busy just lazy. Left Future Shop at the end of January and now work in computer sales at Staples *twirls finger* I'd say I'd be looking forward to going back to school in September but NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) has the worst registrar's in the world. Not only did they lose my high school transcripts but the also lost my previous NAIT transcripts as well. WINNARS! On top of that after paying my application fee, getting them new transcripts, which I had to pay for apparently they won't refund me that money because them screwing up isn't a good enough excuse, they never even processed my application until oooohhhhh 2 1/2 months before the course started. The course in question is Digital and Interactive Media Design. They only accept 50 students a year with only 1 intake a year, that being September. When I initially applied I was one of the first 30 student to apply, I applied back in January and did my interview with the course head. Now I'm bumped to almost the bottom of the waiting list HAHA. So now I'll have to wait another year because certain people in the industry of education apparently lied on their resume about their school education because this is the 3rd time I've been screwed over by the education system in Alberta.

I like Staples though, it's a slower more relax work place then the money hungering Future Shop store. Seriously commission sales people there, well at least in the computer department, are sharks. I had to meet an unreachable daily quota of about $2800 a day in sales. With 3-4 commission sales people snagging all my sales left right and center this made the task that much more impossible. My best day I believe was $2100. Not to mention on boxing day I worked 15 hours and I got the only till with no scanner, they made me cashier for that day. So I had to punch in EVERY UPC manually. No one wanted to piss me off after about 7 hours I was on the verge of strangling ignorant customers.

Here's a tip for you if you ever go into a retail store. If you see only 1 person working in one department. DON'T BE A BITCH AND GET PISSED OFF AT THE WORKER! I try to help everyone as fast as I can and I prioritize my customers based on what they want and how hastely I can get what they want. You walk in and want a computer and another person walks in and wants ink, I'm helping the fucker with the damn ink first cuz a computer sale takes more then 3 minutes and you can wait. Most people are understanding, but I had some retard walk in today wanting to by an $80 dollar pen that we keep in a glass case and I didn't have the keys, because I don't work in that section. I told him I'd get help for him as quick as I could, another gentlemen asked for ink toner as I was going to the front desk to page, told him I'd do my page and help him. Did it started looking for his toner, couldn't find it, lady asked my for a 5 port DLINK hub to which I replied "Sorry miss I have 2 other people, and I'm the only one on the floor for computers right now, but I can tell you exactly what the package looks like and where to find it" She seemed satisfied and sure enough she found it. Asshole who wanted his stupid pen was walking out and I told him that the manager should be there shortly, manager was receiving new stock and didn't get out in time. So pen man left the store and gave me the dirtiest look. He's lucky I never found out what he drives.

Moral of the story, not every salesperson is neglegent of customers, infact the only ones that are I find are the ones on commission since they only talk to you if it's in their wallet's best interest. I get paid to help people out wether you want photo paper or $5000 dollars of computer equipment. Do salespeople around the world a favour and grab some patience, nothing makes you feel like you're not doing your job right then someone who is impatient and makes you feel bad because they think you didn't try hard enough to help them.

PS.
I'm drafting up some ideas to post more stuff here D=
