I don't have any pictures to post up cause I need to design a watermark that doesn't intrude on my artwork... plus I need to edit my art into porportions of non-bigness so DA doesn't yell at me. There's also the fact that most of them are around 1 meg in size.

After I get settled in though, I shall endevor to post pictures of my travels! I'm taking three sets of batteries and we have a charger for them so my camera will be hard pressed to run out of juice.

My new digital SLR camera finally arrived! I actually got it two days ago, but I haven't had a day off work to test it untill now. Where most people would be content to give this product a Super "A" ++. I have found a few flaws that do irk me somewhat... That's probably because I expect perfection out of a machine they designed for people that like to take pictures.

The only problem is... I'm a person that -loves- to take pictures, and nearly cry when something is going wrong. While it can take fine quality pictures with a resolution of 2816x2112 (and take a full 600 of them on my memory stick (I normally stick to 1600x1200 because it's a fairly high resolution that is still easy to work with (this lets me take over 1700 pictures))), the focusing seems to need a little work. I love to zoom into my target for ultra-closeup shots, but when I do this, the auto-focus will focus three meters ahead when the target is only one meter ahead.

Then I remember, my camera has manual focus too! but bleh... Instead of adjusting the lens via a turny thing, I have to hold the manual focus button on one side of the camera, and press directional buttons on the other side. The end result is that manual focus feels rather cumbersome and takes time as the directional button isn't pressure sensitive. Something that takes a fraction of a second on manual cameras can take five seconds on this one.

Another odd thing is that there is no meter to tell you how much battery life is left... It will tell you when your battery is low, but not how long you have.

I'm not saying my camera is bad... it's quite an impressive camera! It's just that if you ever want a good manual camera, don't buy a digital. I don't regret my decision, I just have to spend a bit of time getting used to it before I try to take any really great pictures (or I'll cry when they don't turn out right).

Onto the good things! This thing has a -huge- load of features. First off, it has 19 different shooting modes to adjust for all sorts of different things from focusing range to color adjustments (such as when inside or shooting at the beach or in snowy pictures or to achieve a nice vivid color when taking snapshots of foliage) to setting prioities for your manual settings. It also has a couple modes that let you do color accents (it will take a picture where everything but the color you set is in black and white) and color swaps (self-explanitory).

The theme for the camera can be adjusted... Everything from the start-up background (which I only see for about 1/4 of a second before the camera is fully warmed up) to the sounds when you select menu options, take pictures, and set the picture timer can be adjusted. One of the themes is wildlife so I have birds chirping and wolves howling on my camera when I do things.

It has a nice LCD screen. I really haven't tested out too much, other then taking pictures in the different modes, and I haven't even fully tested that out, so I still have a lot of things to go through before I can report more.

I'll post a few of the pictures I've managed to aquire with my new camera sometime tomorrow after work.

Well... I talked to personel at Wal-Mart today, and in order to recieve either of my benefits or transfur to a store in Washington I have to have worked there for six months. It'll only have been five months when I leave, so I don't get anything!

In other news, I ordered the new Canon Powershot S3 IS as well as a few accessories and the camera itself should be here tomorrow sometime! The accessories I have to wait a bit longer cause some of them are shipping from California or haven't been processed by the company sending them (I'm only lacking the tracking code for my camera carry case sofar). I can't wait to start taking new pictures with my very own camera...

Well... my most pressing concern at the moment is a little avatar for my dA account... and it's turning out to be rather annoying!

Anytime I try to resize an image in photoshop to 50 px, and then save it as a JPEG (at quality 0 even) my image is above the 15 kb limit. The lowest I've gotten any image is 19.5 kb and 26 is the norm for most. I can't figure out for the life of me how to shave those extra kilobytes off without reducing my image to a blob of indecipherable orange and black...

There must be some option in PS that's adding lots of extra weight to the image because I've seen plenty of decent quality pictures that are only 9 kilobytes and look 1000% better then my small icon.

I don't supose any of you nice dAddicts could help me...

Well... it turns out the camera I want costs too much for my parents or grandparents to buy, so I'm going to have to pay for it all myself. Considering how many bills I have to pay (or lack of) I can very eaily afford it and still have quite a bit of money left over. I'll also get a few more paychecks before the move to Washington so I don't have to worry about running out of money.

My job is starting to annoy me with their constantly changing times...
This week I had to come in at 11:00am until 8:00pm.
Next week I have to come in at 12:00pm until 9:00pm except on Monday which in which I arrive at 10:00am and leave at 7:00. A few weeks ago I was working 12:00 to 8:00, and before that it was 12:00 to 9:00. They can't decide whether to cut my hours or not or what time they want me to work.

The days I'm off aren't set either... Some weeks I'm off Tuesday and Wednesday, or I'm off Tuesday and Friday, or some other combination of days.

Bleh! I want a single sleeping schedule!!! I'm tired damnit!

Well... I didn't get a chance to upload anything today (I mean monday) and I'm about to go to bed. I spent most of the day working at work, and came home to research about cameras.

I'm trying to convince my parents and grandparents to both chip in for a nice new Canon Powershot S3 IS so I'll finally have a camera of my own (and a damn nice one too!). It costs a hefty $500 though so I might have to spend some of my own money too. That's in addition to everything else I need to get though. For the camera alone I'll need batteries (it doesn't use rechargeable lithium). I'm getting two sets of rechargeable Ni-HM batteries (and a smart charger) which will cost about $45, and I need a decent memory card instead of the PoS 16mb card that the camera comes with. I can actually buy a 1 gig memory stick for about $15 on amazon.

But I also have to save up for my trip to Washington State(going by car so I can take my stuff with me)... I need to invest in new all season tires ($200). Then there's lodging and food requirements and of course gas.
