Wrestling manager Captain Lou, Cyndi Lauper's fake dad, and Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Lou Albano passed away today at the age of 76.

Wrestling fans know him as the WWE Hall of Famer who managed more than 50 wrestlers in his day, with more than two dozen championships won by athletes taken under his wing. 80's music fans might remember him from his appearances in many Cyndi Lauper music videos, including "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "She Bop", "Time After Time" and "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough." As gamers, we of course remember him as the best live-action Mario of all time. That's not saying much when your chief competition is Bob Hoskins, but at least he was Italian. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! might have only run a grand total of 52 episodes, but that was more than enough to cement Captain Lou's place in gaming history.

Mr. Albano suffered from a heart attack in 2005 and has been in failing health ever since. He was at home with his family under hospice care when he passed away.

THE NEXT DAY... (Update)
Welpers, I went to the dentist, he took a look at the thing, and said it was no big deal. The "eruption" as it's known in dental circles, was not related to a cavity, infection, gum disease, or any of that; just a wisdom tooth, which are weaker than other teeth, made brittle by a cold drink, chomped the wrong part of a too hard candy on the wrong spot of the tooth. And, get this, I didn't loose near the amount of tooth I had thought; turns out the tooth hasn't come in all the way, so that's why it didn't align with the other teeth. Anyway, he sculpted the missing part of the tooth with whatever dentists use to do that, and bonded it with the tooth, and filed it to match the tooth. My mouth was very numb and tingly from that jazz they inject in your gums for a few hours afterward...

So, in summary, my perfect smile is more intact than I thought. But still no more candy!

Anyway, in other news, I'M INTERNET FAMOUS NOW! I was on Geekologie, a site I frequent often, and there was a post about pop-culture Last Supper Parodies. They posted a few of their favorites, and said the site they came from, which collects them from all over, has 101 of them. And I got to thinking... "could they...? No... well...maybe..." AND THEY DID!!! MY Last Supper painting, The Last Smashing, [link] IS FEATURED!!! I didn't think it was, cuz they had a few video game ones in a row, and then different stuff, and I was all "aww..." and then there it was!!! They guys who run the blog aren't very knowledgable in gaming, though, as they thought Roy was Marth, didn't know who real Marth was at all, and that they both were from Final Fantasy, and didn't recognize the difference between Young Link and Link. edit: Meh...pretty good, but too much stuff cut out. Seemed almost like a High School play at some points; some lines and scenes felt like they occurred only because that's what happened in the book, not because of what was going on in the movie. Overall, B-. Can't wait for the extended DVD, which will have a lot of what they cut out restored, because I suppose 4 hours is too much to ask for Average Joe to sit through in a theater. (Still, how do you allow yourself to cut Hollis' murder out of the theatrical version? And I doubt it'll be restored for the DVD, but it was a wee bit disappointed they changed it so that it was Osterman's watch, not Janey's which he had repaired because the fat man stepped on it. You loose an A-Bomb analogy that way.)

(Now, I know the Joker says "If you're good at something, never do it for free," but since I've yet to actually test this in-game, I don't know if I'm good at it yet, so enjoy the fruits of my labor on the house.)

I had begun playing around in imageready, trying to see if I could make the optimized image of a file created in photoshop (an image from somewhere cropped to a square and shrunk to 32 by 32 pixels) use only select colors, and I did! Seems my answer lied in the Color Table window of imageReady. So, my next step, to give you an idea of the amount of free time and lack of a life I have, today I took screenshots of each palette with the camera function in AC, then uploaded the pics into imageready, sampled each color, made a swatch of each, creating a row for each color (doubling the 15th to create the 16-swatch row, in case you were wondering). I then look at the image under the "Optimize" option. I limit it to 15 of any colors. I then judge which palette would be most appropriate for the image. I delete all the current colors from the Color Table, and drag in each swatch from that palette. Then, I open up 4-Up view, select the best one, and then tweak any colors I feel necessary(this part is much more of an art than a science; go to the standard view, create a new layer, and sample colors to match the colors you want in optimized, the use the pencil tool to color over the desired pixels in your new layer). Finally, pull out guide lines to isolate each pixel, and PRESTO! Instant pattern!

Sorry if this is old news to anyone, but I really thrilled i managed to figure all this out. I've already uploaded one of my creations to DA, and will hopefully upload more. And if anyone knows any venues out there that could use this information, or get the word out better than DA, please let me know, or feel free to post it there yourselves. I don't mind! My horribly complex. time-consuming gift to the Animal Crossing Community!

(and if anyone would like to do this but lacks the skill/programs, I may be open to requests, but keep in mind that this is an imperfect process that's still developing, and somethings just don't work at this size, so it may not be pretty... plus I might not feel like it... hahaha!)

But I have questions! So please, all you Animal Crossing peeps do your best to help me with my concerns!

1) I wanna get serious about town tunes this time around, but lack all musical abilities. Are their any websites/programs that let you "translate" a sound file or something into the notes that you use? Any Mac geeks know how to get Garage Band to display notes? Or does anyone have the ability to create the AC version of any song I name? If anyone knows off-hand, I'm thinking of the MGS game over/mission accomplished/whatever thing (jazz that plays when Snake wins a Brawl), jazz that plays when Wario wins a Brawl, and Ai No Uta (the selection the pikmin can hum in Pikmin 2).

2) How do I transfer items from the DS? NP said it was possible, my shitty Prima guide says it's possible, but so far, DS Suitcase is just about friends visiting. I got some stuff I wanna transfer...

3) What's the deal with centipedes? Shitty guide says flowers, questionable fansite says rocks, neither so far have worked so far in game.

I'll bug more as time passes, but those are the most pressing for now. Also, should anyone wanna exchange codes, I'm open to debate...

EDIT: Okay, so I beat it the evening of the day I wrote this post. 100% completed, unlocked everything, even beat Helper to Hero with all helpers. So, thanks for nothing essentually. BUT it seemed like the 3 people who responded needed more help than I did, so here's my advice: FIRE! And lots of it! That's right; you must be fire kirby for every battle (obtained in the room, or by eating Fire Lion). Never, ever sacrifice fire to make a helper. It's far, far easier solo as fire than with a helper and some shitty power. If anyone would like more details on specific bosses or something, let me know.

UPDATE: Well, she died. We took her to the vet were they killed her. Excuse me, "put her out of her misery." Now, I know it was the right thing to do. It was either that or let her waste away for a week and die in the corner. But, Jesus, the whole way there, she made these sad, scared little mews... She had been doing nothing but lying down and drooling... I wasn't expecting she had the strength left to do that... it made me very upset. But, now she is no longer suffering, and she may have still been scared, but at least she was spared a week of agony, right? I miss her terribly already...
