First, to gain profit from someone else's worlds or characters is an obvious copyright violation, period.

There are discussions about what the original artist would feel if someone used their characters and stories to make art and sell them. No one would like it for sure (I wouldn't). Though, I think there's a difference between using official art and someone else's art you've stumbled across in the internet. If you re-create official art, there's a big chance that everyone will know where it comes from. Not to mention that they wouldn't exactly loose money if you sold a drawing of their character totally re-created by you. If you use someone's work you liked but isn't known, everyone will probabily think it's yours (that is if you don't give credit or ask permission, but that would be stealing). Lots of people say, and say correctly, that a fanart should be done free, like a tribute to a creation we love. But what if someone ask us to make a specific drawing of that character, picking us to do it because they like our work? Don't we have the right to charge the person for our work, at least? I think we do. Many artists charge the same for an original and a fanart. I don't agree with that. The process of creation is extra work, so if you know the character already you're not "creating" anything. The only thing you're creating is the illustration, the composing. That's what you charge.
I think it does not harm the official creators if someone asks you for a fanart and you create it for that specific person, charging for that work once. If you make a fanart and sell lots of copies of it, though, that's stepping a bit out of control. You're mass creating something you didn't create at all and profiting from it.
I've also read about how the laws in Japan changed, concerning fanart. Times are changing, anime is more and more popular, so they don't seem to care if you sell fanart or doujinshi from official work. The differences between this and my old one... I can't even compare. All I know is that my works will improve a lot! I can't look at most of my old artwork without flickering: so many imperfections! How didn't I notice them before? I never complained much about my old monitor, but now I will never look at it again.

I never bought a flat screen before because everybody always said it changed the colours dramatically. Well, it's not that dramatic! It's really an improvement. The images sure look a lot more attractive. So, I totally recommend it to all artists! Be sure to buy a good one, though. Some of them REALLY change the colour dramatically. Always take to the store a pen full of images you know pretty well and see how they look in your screens of interest.

Oh, and my question on the previous journal entry is solved. DA help desk team is great.

I've been away from DA for a while, much work to do and school to finish. The thing that troubles me most atm is school: I must finish it until the end of May. I can't read any books, watch the series I want, or draw any other stuff than work. :sad: But, it's a worthy sacrifice. I'll feel more complete once I've finished school, and by then I'll have time to do lots of stuff I want! Like having my driver's license, for instance. ^^ I'm still aprehensive about that, as I'm afraid of the road and the people who drive in, but I will give it a try like everyone else.
I feel happy living with my darling in our new home, and I'm loving the experience. ^_^ I'm not as bad at cooking as I was expecting, so our meals are good enough. At least we're not hungry... most of the time.
There's always pizza in the freezer, anyways.
Our house has been assaulted too, a month back. Not bad for a start, heh? They didn't took much (just our luck), but the door is fucked up: it was forced with a crowbar. So we ordered a new door, a massive one. It's said they're the most secure house doors in the market... after what happened, we think it's worth spend a lot of money in a door like that.

Gotta get back to work.

I've also seen a PowerPoint file about how women can delude men with their beauty. They look astonishing with their make-up. Any man would get attracted to them, indeed... But without make-up, the difference was drastic! If I was a man and saw those faces as I woke up in the morning, I'd run away or die with a heart attack. "Who the hell are you?? What did you do with the girl I knew??"

I believe in natural beauty. For a man to like you, he must see you in your natural self and like it. Then you surprise him, sometimes, with a little make-up to show how beautiful you can look.

My back and shoulders are all messed up with so many hours at the computer, and my right thumb hurts a lot from using my Graphire pen. I hope I didn't get tendinitis. -_-; Joy! Good thing I'm gonna take some days off, Friday me and Paulo, my boyfriend, are leaving to Penha Garcia to meet my family. It's a small village on top of a hill, and it's very beautiful and charming. ^_^ We plan to take a lot of pictures!

Yess! No computer for a week!!

Lately I've been feeling much more sensitive than usual... and it's not even that time of th month. For example, I heard in the news that a portuguese girl was killed in the Amazonic forest while searching stuff for her thesis. She has been found naked with several hits in the head. I usually feel horrified, like everyone else, but I try to forget the subject so I don't suffer. But today I felt unusually perturbated and even lost my apetite at lunch.
Later on I've seen a painting featuring a esquizofrenic father, empty and lost in his own world. And right beside him was his son, with his hand raised so his father reached it. But he wouldn't and the child's expression was like "my own father is here, but I'm all alone". Both figures were with their back on us, but still so expressive. Sadness stroke me hard.
Ah well, must be the moon's fault

The song 'Light My Candle' from the musical 'Rent' has been buzzing in my head for two days. I mean, I love the song very much, but I'd like it to give me a rest now. X_X I listened to other music so I'd forget this one, but it didn't work, lol...

It was easy to suspect that most of !preciousfailer artwork was stolen, not just because she's stolen from me, but because like *Mistresselysia said: "typical teenage sketches interseped with moments of pure brilliance? I don't think so."
Not to mention the tons of different styles of art.

Sooo, I found her attitude so repulsive (not only the stealing thing) that I decided to really HARASS her. (reference [link])
I searched for the drawings she has in her gallery... Et voila! It didn't take me long, lol! She's so shallow that she even took stuff from an official art site
I also must thank to DA, for recently allowing non-subscribed users to search for art. Thank you! That's precious to keep track on stolen art.

It's said that when you love something you never tire of doing it. But it's also said that you get sick of whatever is too much. >.< Both are true, depending on the situation. My situation is that I'm blocked and looking for inspiration to do more. So I don't really feel like drawing, while I love doing it very much.

I notice that most of the artists I admire here at DA are women. Could it be that nowadays there are more female artists than male (er, I don't think so )? Or could it be that things like DA: friends' list, journals, comments and such are more a woman's thing than a man's? It could make sense.. but it also could be that all this is nothing but a coincidence.

Anyway may we, female artists, keep up with our great work!

It's such a lovely program, and I'm sure I'll be using it v. often in future works. Just need to learn how to work with it. It's a "little" different from photoshop...

Well, today was a productive day, I can feel proud of myself. So now, I can hook myself on the cutest game ever - Ragnarok Online, without feeling guilty on wasting my time.

I'll probabily be drawing my RO chars very soon, eheh.
