And now on to more series matters.

For the longest time I have been at war with myself on whether I want to pursue my love for writing or my love for art. Both I dabble in from time to time and both would be nice to have a bachelors degree in but I really needed to buckle down and pick one to major in before it became too late.

See, I have always considered the bachelors in English a smarter idea. It’s a practical and versatile degree that you can do a lot with. It’s very sensible and safe and what I have spent the last couple of years gearing towards. But it’s not really what I want.

Sure I love writing, sure it’d be nice to have a degree in it but it isn’t my passion.. It’s practical. For so long I’ve been avoiding doing what I really want to do because it’s not practical and I don’t have a fall back plan. Truth be known I have been living on my own for 7 years now and haven’t had any parental support in just as long. College is something I have had to pay for on my own, work for all on my own, while juggling a job and other living expenses. There was no room for impracticality and whimsical desires when it came to higher education. Simply space big enough to get the degree that earns the most money.

Honestly, I considered an art degree a luxury granted to those who have support (read: those who live at home or have their parents paying for everything or both), not someone like me.

However, as time goes on and I begin to become more pensive about my life and what time remains left in it, I realize that if I don’t go for what I really want, I’ll regret it forever. It’s not practical. It’s not stable. It’s not even really a safe degree option for someone like me but.. It will make me immensely happy. I actually have the drive to take more classes than I can realistically handle, I have the drive to work hard and finish my degree because I want to and not because I NEED to.

So why am I sharing all this dribble with the rest of you? Well, the moral of these ponderings and life altering decisions is happiness.

See, the point to life (if there IS such a thing) is to really LIVE and be -happy-.

Riches and material objects (in the long run) mean so very little. In fact, at the end of this life when you’re looking back at everything you’ve done, the only thing that will have ever mattered was if you were happy and the good and full life you have led.

I believe that when we pass on, the only things we can carry with us onto our next journey are the things we cannot touch or see but merely feel. Things like our memories, our happiness, our sorrow.. Our existence. Because, in my belief system, our existence is the only thing that transcends death and the only thing that makes us who we are and what we are remembered by.

So when it‘s my time, I want to look back at my life and be proud of it. I want to be satisfied that I did what I wanted to do and that I did it well. So here’s to a step in the right direction ^_^

And as for everyone else, let’s hold our chins up high and change the world into a better place so we can all continue to smile together until the very end : )

1) How long have you known 1?
We've been friends for a little over a year now. Met at Fanime 08 :3

2) What's the one thing that reminds you of 2?
The better questions is what doesn't remind me of my wife. She's always on my mind so very few thoughts go through my head that don't somehow involve her.

It depends on how lucky he's feeling. If he thinks he can get away with it and not lose his hands, he may try it but the chances are slim. Lol

You know... I have no idea.

No. Our personalities mesh too well (birds of a feather) so I think we'd get along just fine. In fact, I think it'd be fun XD

LMFAO that would SO never happen. Umm If I were completely innocent and 3 switched bodies with a crazy person and that crazy person hated me... I think 4 would try to smooth out the situation. But one could hardly call that "coming to the rescue". XD

Honestly, I’m in crunch time for Yaoi-con and I’m busting myself to get all my costumes done ahead of time so I can help my wife finish hers. And just for those who seem to think otherwise, Naru DOES make her own costumes and wigs 99% of the time.

At any rate. I have at least three videos I need to edit but I can’t really do that until I finish the costumes first so I’m just stuck in limbo.

"Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO), along with Congressman John Conyers (D-MI), Congressman John Lewis (D-GA), Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) and Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA), with a total of 91 original co-sponsors to date, introduced the Respect for Marriage Act in the House of Representatives."

The act basically acknowledges gay and lesbian marriages on a federal level (read: nation wide). It wont tell a state that they have to allow marriages or that any city, church or person is obligated to marry or celebrate the marriages but it DOES treat existing/future same sex marriages exactly the same as heterosexual marriages. So you can be married in a state that allows it and the federal government will acknowledge your marriage even if you move to a different state.

This is a HUGE step for our country. If this act passes, it’s only a matter of time before all the states allow same sex marriages as well !

And how did this come about? Well...

"The introduction of the Respect for Marriage Act responds directly to a call from President Obama for Congressional action on the issue. As the President recently confirmed: "I stand by my long-standing commitment to work with Congress to repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. It's discriminatory, it interferes with States' rights, and it's time we overturned it."

Well done Mr. President, well done indeed.

For those of you who don't know, the Defense of Marriage Act is an existing law established in 1996 that "singles out legally married same-sex couples for discriminatory treatment under federal law, selectively denying them critical federal responsibilities and rights, including programs like social security that are intended to ensure the stability and security of American families."

"Supporters of DOMA argued in 1996 that the law is necessary to promote family structures that are best for children, but every credible medical, social science and child welfare organization has concluded that same-sex couples are equal parents. Married gay and lesbian couples pay taxes, serve their communities and raise children like other couples. Their contributions and needs are no different from those of their neighbors. The Respect for Marriage Act would ensure that couples who assume the serious legal duties of marriage are treated fairly under federal law."

So there you have it.

Keep your fingers crossed and your heads held up high because no matter what, change is coming and it's about damn time.

So lately I've fallen victim to the Tales of Symphonia fandom but, more specifically, Zelloyd. As in ZelosxLloyd. It's quickly becoming one of my all time OTP and I just wanted to spread the love out to all of you.

For those of you who aren't familiar with ToS, you should look it up in one of its many formats. Tales of Symphonia is a game (with a great sequel), a manga and an OVA animation. Both the manga and anime adaptations don't really cover the fine details of the game but are still fluid and fun to watch/read with much enjoyment to be had. Onemanga.com has the manga up and if you find yourself craving more storyline details but can't afford the game, wiki has it in abundance. Not to mention youtube with all of its cut scenes. So.. check it out!

Now, why am I spamming everyone with this journal? Naru and I will be cosplaying ToS (Me = Zelos, Naru = Lloyd) along with a number of other surprise cosplays to Y-con, Sakura-con and possibly Fanime. The fandom is sparse so I'm making this journal to invite all of you to look into it. Enjoy the series.. crack out on Zelloyd with me XD!

Also, I'm tossing a shout out to one of my favorite fandom enthusiasts ! They make amazing amvs for the series and can be found on youtube [link] as well as super well written fan fiction [link] that's very in depth and true to the characters.

So we've decided that our house is haunted.

I know that's a pretty bold statement but.. it really has just come to a point where we can't deny it anymore. And believe me, we've been in denial for YEARS.

The hulk of it started off with just glimpses of things that weren't there. One of the older stories comes from Naru who was in her room (soon to be our room) talking on the phone when she glanced around and saw something in the corner. It looked like a little girl kneeling down watching her and when she did a double take, there was nothing there. Not a minute after that, the cat (Nala) suddenly got up and shot out of the room for no apparent reason. Now, this is a very old cat and she doesn't spontaneously shoot about for no good reason so that was a little surprising.

After that, random things would happen. Shadows moving out of the corner of your eyes, random creaking of the floor boards late at night, clicks and shuffles in the main bedroom, everyone in the house having nightmares on the same night.. random stuff.

Several months later, after Sakura had moved in, Sakura woke up out of a dead sleep to feel a set of nails scrapping along her side and she assumed it was her boyfriend (Billy) because he has long nails. However, after she woke up a little more she realized that Billy was rolled in the opposite direction facing the wall and it would have been impossible for him to scratch her as the side being scratched was facing the open room and not Billy. The next morning she still had scratches all along her side/back.

Everyone in the household (at that point) had developed a paranoia of the downstairs because of the feeling of animosity you got when you would sit in the living room towards our sliding glass door. The same feeling happened in Sakura's room towards her sliding glass door which is right above the living room sliding glass door. Essentially the feeling moved up and down between the floor of the same spot. The exact feelings went on between the downstairs bathroom and our closet which were also right above and bellow each other respectively. It progressed to the point that every time you went up the stairs you felt like you were being chased and the urgency to run was pretty bad.

One of our friends had a phone that developed a problem where you could hear an old man on the other line whenever you called Naru or I's phone. Sometimes he would breathe on the phone, sometimes he would laugh, sometimes he would mumble something and sometimes you could clearly hear him say "Get Off". Mind you, this was only happening when she called our phones and you could only hear it on her end but it happened at all hours of the day and night no matter where any of us where when either part called. Eventually she moved in to our house and the problem got worse.

After a while, it was too unnerving to be anywhere by yourself in the house so we called in some friends to help us cleanse the house. We burned a LOT of sage and cleansed the house to the best of our abilities and it seemed to work. All the clicking noises and the creaking and the shadows and everything just stopped.

The house was very quiet and comfortable again for several months. No feeling of dread or paranoia or fear of any kind. Then, about a month and a half ago, everyone started seeing a shadow again and a very VERY hostile feeling came into the house. It was in the downstairs again and all you could feel was.. aggression. Like something wanted to hurt you when you were in the room or on the stairs.

One night around two in the morning, Sakura was getting ready for bed and went down stairs to get a drink of water when she looked into the living room to see if anyone was there. No one was there but the cat (Nala) sitting in the middle of the living room looking towards the slidding glass door (the far left corner). Sakura approached the cat and called her name and the cat made no response. Mind you, this is a cat who comes to her name and always looks up when you call her. Sakura continued this calling until she was right next to the cat who was still ignoring her until Sakura reached out and grabbed her. The cat jumped about a half foot into the air then bolted for the stairs like her life depended on it. After the cat left, Sakura looked back to where the cat had been looking and saw a shadow dissapear into the far left wall.

Again, we called some friends and did the whole cleansing thing over again. The house felt fine again for about two weeks, and then it got worse.

Hey everyone! I just finished recovering from the excitement of Fanime and the complete lack of sleep I got from it.

I wanted to give a very BIG thank you to everyone who came by to say hello and an even BIGGER thank you to everyone who helped Naru and I out or gave us presents. It was such an amazing surprise to be welcomed so warmly, Naru even got a little emotional over it (in a good way XD).

We got to see and play with so many people that it was fantastic! Love to for playing with Naru and I!

I had a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to coming back to Fanime next year. Although (and this is a bit of a spoiler just for my readers), next year Naru and I will not be hosting an art table because it’s looking like Fanime will be officially made one of the Koi Cosplay debut cons. Why? Because it will be replacing Sakura con which is very far away and very hard for most of the members to get to.

Some of the members will still attend Sakura con (probably just me, Naru, Pretz and Tsunade and whoever else can make it) but the whole crew will (for sure) not be attending next year. Sorry Sakura con.. You’re still one of our most favorite cons ever!!

At any rate. It was a good time and now I take a rest before posting photos and getting ready for Comic Con XD

Letter 1

Sasuke starred at the suspicious looking letter upon his desk, a frown marring his features as he picked it up and carefully inspected it for traps. Bare eyes showed nothing. Sharingan offered nothing. Scent provided... Naruto?

Opening the envelope, Sasuke stared at the letter hastily scrawled there stained with... he sniffed it... emo. The letter was stained with Emo tears. No doubt about it, this was definitely the dumbass's piece of work. A deep sigh left his lips as he pulled out a scrap piece of papers and began his response.


Naruto.

It was one night. And I was drunk. You weren't. Stop stalking me.

Sasuke

Ps. I'm moving.


It was going to be a bitch getting this back to Konoha without getting traced but it was worth the effort if it meant the dobe wouldn't send him notes filled with dried slobber and tear stains. And... other suspicious looking fluid stains. Dear god. Slapping his forehead, the Uchiha picked up his letter and walked out of the room while hoping it would be the last time he'd have to do this. Maybe sleeping with the dumbass before leaving wasn't a good idea after all.

Letter 2

A full week had gone by and the letter remained unopened on his desk. He was doing his best to simply pretend it didn't exist at all. He shuffled around it, cleaned around it and did everything in his power to will it out of existence short of actually acknowledging its existence. However, once the week of ignoring had gone by and the scroll remained steadfast.. Sasuke broke down and finally opened the damn thing.

What a mistake. Now he was going to have to answer the fucking thing because, like HELL, if he was going to let Naruto get away with THAT kind of petty bullshit.

Uzumaki.

I don't know how you found my new residence but your letter sending has reached new heights of irritation, even for YOU.

I had more than four shots, YOU just weren't paying attention. I have no promises to you. And... standards? What the.. what STANDARDS do YOU have to take care of ME? What the fuck are you talking about? YOU'RE the pansy ass who needs taking care of usuratonkachi.

Three days? It takes 3 days for a letter to GET to me dobe.

Stop writing.

For a moment Sasuke pondered if he should actually send the letter considering anything he may have said that would help Naruto triangulate his position. However, after glancing at the scroll to him again, he growled and walked out of his room once more to send off the hastily scribbled down anger.

Orochimaru hadn't been very pleased to see a Konoha ninja in Sound. More so when that Konoha ninja was a certain blond-haired-blue-eyed-orange-clad-fox-holding-obnoxiously-optimistic-ninja-who-didn't-know-when-to-give-up-and-stop-stalking. True, it was only a bunshin but cloan or not, the old snake wasn't having any of it. However, instead of listening to a ten hour lecture mixed with a five hour leer fest, Sasuke chose to ignore the highly irritated nonsense and took the scroll that the cloan died to deliver to his room.

" Stupidrejectedsonofa-- " the brunette threw open the door and stormed into his room, tearing open the letter in order to read the accursed thing. Which only served to make him even MORE angry. What the hell was that idiot going on about?

Sitting down at the desk, the Uchiha clenched his jaw and angrily pushed the brush against the paper in a hasty scrawling (read: barely legible) letter.

Dobe.

You're on.

I will PROVE to you once and for all that you; A) are not better than me. B) are NOT as important as you think you are, and C) are a serious stalker and should stop taking lessons from that old perverted hermit that seems to have influenced you in a very bad way. Does he touch you at night or something? Seriously.

And why would you bother to take the "edge" off my revenge anyway? Do you really think that I'm so easily fooled into-- wait... no. I'm not going to write any more than this. It'll only encourage you.

I've noticed several people are unsure of what a Kiriban is, so, I'm here to explain.

A Kiriban, in regards to DA, is basically a set number of page views that you're trying to reach. A "milestone" if you will.

My Kiriban is set at 55,555 which means, if you are page viewer 55,555 then take a screen shot of your page, upload the image somewhere (DA, photobucket..etc..) and send me the link.

What do you get if you win?

Generally the winner/s get to pick a character that I have cosplayed along with a theme or idea for the picture. Vague ideas are okay, specific is better. Either way, I'll do the picture and put your name somewhere on it.

Team Retard.

Don't ask me why they put Gaara in the set instead of Sakura.. I couldn't even begin to tell you. Sakura is just lucky this kind of travesty never happened to her.

So, these were a present from Tema who saw them and couldn't stop laughing until she bought them for us. And even then...

My first impression was "Who.. the hell thought this was a good idea?" shortly followed by. "Someone was seriously trying to sell this at a CON in a BOX SET like they were good? .............."

But it gets better. Oh lord does it ever get better. Let's take a closer look, shall we?



Naruto. He's probably the best out of all of them and that's saying something. He might have even passed for decent on some level if it weren't for the fact that he's Chunin Naruto and not Shippuuden Naruto. No seriously. Look at the make of the coat and clothes and you'll see what I'm talking about. That and the fact that his whiskers are actually going in the wrong direction. See, Naruto finally found a jutsu to subtly change his appearance, too bad that (much like his first, second and third bunshin trial) the jutsu didn't go according to plan.

Upon closer inspection, Naruto apparently spent many years in Africa getting his neck stretched. The abnormal angle just looks painful, which consequently accentuates his whole body structure that just looks... painful. I mean really painful. The face is slightly too small and in the end, he looks like he took the short bus to the Ninja academy for a while.



Sasuke is second to most normal. And, again, this is tragic. I'm not entirely sure where to begin as I have starred at this abomination to all things holy and Naruto for many many hours. Perhaps it's the fact that his hair will not stay on his head and constantly insists on popping off to make Sasuke look like an aging 60-year-old Japanese man suffering a hernia.

Oh yes, that facial expression translates to internal suffering.. of the constipation kind. Maybe that's why he's wearing the grey diaper. That or the factory producing this forgot to paint the mold blue like the rest of his incorrectly colored pants. They just couldn't be bothered as they were clearly paying FAR too much attention to the detail of his hair.

Or not. It appears that they painted the hair while it was still on his head because the residue of black paint is still clinging to Sasuke's face in a very bad impression of a side burn gone wrong. And please, don't bother examining the fact that his toes are colored blue, it was CLEARLY done on purpose to show that aging Sasuke will eventually succumb to frost bite on one of his last missions. Yes my friends, it's the frostbite that eventually does The Great Avenger in.



Frost bite coupled with a hernia, constipation and apparently obscure hair loss patterns that could only be relevant to... cancer. Or something.

Now, the next two I am absolutely flabbergasted by because I'm not sure which takes the cake. I love them both equally in that way that only the mother of a severely deformed child can.

Just for the sake of getting it over with, I think I'll go with Gaara next.

Though it’s probably more accurate to call it the “going out of my mind trying to finish all my cosplay in time for the con” stretch. Koi and I are busting balls to get three new costumes done for Sakura con and a few of us (Naru, Kimi, Gaara, Sakura and myself) are going the extra mile to finish new costumes for Fanime as well.

On top of all of that? I have costume commissions to finish. Making this a total of 11 costumes that I’m frantically trying to finish.

To make matters more complicated, Gaara just moved to LA and Naru, Kimi, Sakura and I are moving at the end of this month. IF all goes according to plan. If not, we may stay at our old place for a month longer or so. The four of us are checking out an apartment today so, everyone, please wish us good luck in getting a low rate.

Is this too personal to be talking about in a public place? Lol

So I’ve actually heard the same thing from several people at this point in reference to the amount of liner I wear during crossplay and I figured it was about time for me to explain why I do this.

First, it’s a creative license. I find it ascetically appealing and it’s not breaking away from the cosplay any more than getting a color slightly off --and I mean SLIGHTLY. I’m still sticking to the mantra that neon wigs are unforgivable unless the character has neon hair. *shivers* seriously.. highlighter wigs just need to be outlawed..

Second, Cosplay is theater and in theater, you always wear makeup that purposefully accentuates certain features. See, the way you wear make up can change your facial structure and those who have spent a LOT of time on stage or a LOT of time in front of the camera know this. Personally, I’ve been working on and off throughout the entertainment business since I was literally a baby (modeling, runway, photo shoots, musicals, live theater, etc… ) and I know very well how my face will look on camera based on the type of make up techniques I’m using.

As a very good example of facial reconstruction via make up, Pikminlink [link] has used heavy bronzers and shadows to create that "droopy eye" effect that you see in Saiyuki drawings. Compare that to some of Pikmin's other photos as different characters [link] and you can see how very different the make up is and how it changes Pikmin's face entirely.

Honestly guys, from experience I know very well that (more often than not) if you DON’T wear proper eye make up or (sometimes) blush, you’re either going to look dead or washed out in a lot of your photos and that’s just not aesthetically appealing to anyone. This is not to say that you can’t look amazing without eye make up or blushes.. this is just to say that you COULD stand make things better.

As an exception or corollary to the previously mentioned, some people look worse off in eye makeup and thusly should probably refrain or find a way to apply it that will be complimentary instead of damaging. Personally, I look like a zombie without proper wear and so I indulge.

Third. Eyes. Anime characters are nothing if not their eyes. The emphasis is heavily centered around a character’s eyes, made obvious by the fact they are often created larger than a natural person’s eyes. So the attention is drawn there and the focus and detail is placed in that area. Having bare eyes (in my opinion) will take away from that.

And really, they’re a cartoon. Their eyes are darkened heavily with black and I’m merely mimicking what the creators have already done. Some male characters even have darker black rims around their eyes than other male characters in the same anime. Seriously though.

Now, the only way for a cosplay to achieve this kind of look would be to use copious amounts of eyeliner carefully. And I DO mean carefully. But it CAN be pulled off and not just by girls either.

And holy crap.. what a shitty year to review.

It actually feels like 2008 was a horrible conglomeration between bad and worse moments, speckled with a few spots of good times so as not to make the entire year a dumping ground for misery.

Sincerely, there was a great deal of love, loss and betrayal mixed in with some debt, depression, diminishing health and shity work conditions. The highlights, however, were good even in their short comings. I learned some new things about myself and found there was a lot of room for improvement. Like.. a lot of room.

So with that said, my New Years Resolution is to finish things I start. I have the world's worst habit of starting projects or endeavors and never finishing them. Well.. this year I'm hoping for a change and the ability to stick to it.

So wish me luck for my resolution and my New Year and thank you, everyone, who has stuck with me this far. I appreciate it.

Hey there. I’m going to go out on a limb here that most of you are feeling pretty proud of yourselves right now, patting each other on the back for your near victory of 3%. It must feel good to win huh? God knows I would be proud too if I woke up to find that my vote had such an impact on thousands upon thousands of people. I must say, I’d be pretty elated over the defeat of the US’s strides for separation of church and state, the victory over the very things our fore fathers fought and died for –the things our country was founded on, Yes, I have to say, I’d be pretty enthralled with myself for the devastation of an enormous group of people, but I’m not.

I’m not because I voted no to legal discrimination; no to the idea that a religiously founded belief and opinion should have any say in the legal constitution which rules over other people who may not have the same beliefs. I voted no because I felt there was a greater need for human equality and compassion than the whims of an organized religion that practices intolerance and promotes the sub-human treatment of a group of people. I voted no because I could not bring myself to believe in the hypocrisy of a love that would deny people fundamental rights supposedly granted to everyone.

But I suppose that doesn’t matter to you, does it?

Well I hope you’re happy with yourselves now. I hope you can look into the mirror and say how happy you are to emotionally devastate hundreds of thousands of people and their loved ones. I hope you can look in the mirror and say how proud you are to treat another group of people with substandard subhuman notions for reasons they cannot change. And I HOPE you can look at yourself and feel just FINE with the fact that your vote has such emotionally scarring ramifications that people (your neighbors, your coworkers, you family members and possibly friends) may never fully recover from this sort of thing.

I hope you can think about that and smile without flinching.

Take pride in being a bigot, because you are. Disagree? The definition of a bigot is a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion. Utterly intolerant, as in, so intolerant that you cannot stand to allow a marriage between two people you don’t even know who you don’t deem acceptable for your definition of marriage.

And maybe you don’t understand the weight of what you’ve done because you were taught to believe that being different is NOT ok. Or maybe because you never had to fight for the same rights as your neighbor, your fellow US citizen.. your fellow human being.

But that’s no excuse.

What you have done was hurtful and inexcusable. It was a choice based on unjust fear and selfishness. Fear of what you don’t understand and cannot relate to. Selfishness of worrying over what this means for you, what this might do to YOU or your soul instead of what this means for your fellow man and woman.

And don’t pretend this was for the children because 300 pediatricians told you otherwise. Because of your vote, children who are already being raised by gay parents now have their chance for an economically protected environment ruined. Children who had the chance to be adopted by gay married parents, who OBIVOUSLY wanted them more than their heterosexual birth counterparts, will now suffer as well.

And as for YOUR children…gay marriage was never going to be taught in schools and you knew it. The California super attendant for schools and the Teachers Associations told you so. This was never about church rights, everyone told you otherwise. In fact, just about every large newspaper, major company head, California leader as well our current (Obama) AND past (Clinton) US President told you it was WRONG and you voted for it anyway.

This was never about anyone but you and your fear.

Fear so strong that you would be willing to deny people the right to be above subhuman just to keep yourself “safe”. I have never seen a bigger hypocritical unprecedented discriminatory injustice short of the Rwanda genocide and the Hate crime killings in my time.

And don’t try and console me with domestic partnership because it is NOT the same a marriage. The term “marriage” isn’t just some fluffy term for us to throw around and parade about. It comes with legal power that domestic partnerships don't have Things like. A Domestic Partnership may be dissolved without court ruling under some circumstances. Federal tax returns filed separately. In a Domestic Partnership, you do not receive Social Security, veteran's benefits and pension plan survivor benefits upon death of partner. You're not guaranteed equal benefits from employers. Your insurance isn’t guaranteed to carry. You MUST share common residence. You're excluded from long-term care benefits. Some of us were considering going to ALA but with the way things are looking (four members of Koi are planning on moving in that following month) it seems like we'll be unable to attend. Tragedy because we were all looking forward to going too u.u! Alas, what can you do?

On the up and up, my birthday is in less than 2 weeks (November 11th)! I'll be turning 23 and I'm actually pretty excited about it. After all, 23 seems like a cool prime number and all lol.

Believe it or not, Naru, Me and a few other members of Koi get this question a LOT. Not just from friends and people we know but from complete strangers and random people over the internet too. Weird huh?

If you DON'T think it's weird, or slightly offensive, then you might want to read this entry closely so I can explain why you should never ask a complete stranger to borrow their costume.

Asking a very active cosplaying friend of yours "Can I borrow your outfit?" is like asking a friend "Can I borrow your car?" It's personal, it cost a lot of money and it means a whole hell of a lot to the person who owns it. Depending on the friend, some may say yes and some may say no. If they say no, do not get offended with them. They probably spent hours upon hours hurting themselves repeatedly as they hunched over a sewing machine and spun magic out of their fingertips like a madman.

Well, maybe not magic but sometimes it feels like it XD

On the other hand, asking a complete stranger is another story entirely.

In example, would YOU walk up to your favorite mangaka and say "Hey mister artist.. can you draw a picture for me FOR FREE and let me sign my name over it? If anyone asks, I'll say you did it, but I just want to pretend it's mine for a while."

Probably not. In fact, I would hope not because they might just throw ink at you in hopes whatever bizarre demon possessed you will be released by the ink that was no doubt mixed with sweat and tears. Lots and Lots of tears.

Now, If THAT scenario isn't something you can exactly relate to, how about this one?

"HEY! Can I put a picture of you that I found on the internet up as my MAIN photo on myspace without commenting bellow it that it's you, so that people will think it's me? If they ask, I'll say it's you... but I just want to pretend for a while... isn't that flattering?"

Starting to get the picture? Get it... picture? Myspace? Haha... oook... never mind.

Anyway.. what it all comes down to is that coming up to a complete stranger via a convention or the internet and saying "Can I borrow your costume?" is essential saying:

"I love you SO much, will you hand me a tangible piece of your creative integrity, time, effort, money and PAIN so that I can wear it and pretend it was MY creative integrity, time, effort, money and PAIN that went into it?

Never mind that we've never met before... never mind that you don't even know my name or anything about me and never mind that you wont even let some of your next to kin wear your costumes (not that I would know that because I don't know the first thing about you either). Never mind all of that because you can take my word that I'm a good person and will treat your precious object nicely, magically know how to take care of after con damage AND return it when I'm done with it at whatever undetermined spot of time in the future.

With NO compensation.

After all, you can trust people on the internet. And strangers.

Besides, you only spent $70 on the wig, $80+ on the raw materials and 72 solid hours of working on this extension of yourself which you swore to only wear in the presence of your soul mate. That's nothing. In fact it's so easy I couldn't even be bothered to do something similar. Instead, I'm taking the harder route by asking you to lend it to me at no cost to myself what so ever."


SO. Let's review. Asking a stranger if you can borrow their costume can be considered really offensive and I really hope that everyone understands where I'm coming from and does not make this mistake. If you HAVE already made this mistake, I only hope that you know now what you've asked of someone and sincerely understand what it means so you don't do it again in the future.

By the by, this rant was NOT meant to single anyone out! I've been meaning to post something along these lines for a while anyway and something just reminded me to ^__^;

I really don't care what anyone else has to say about it because as bad as it gets, and it can get pretty bad, there is so much more out there to experience.

Because of my genetically terrible health, I probably spend too much time thinking about my mortality but it's because 100 years is simply not enough.

And I do get angry when people whine and cry about how unfair life is but you know what? I've been there, I really have. I know exactly what the lowest places of hell look like and because of that, I know exactly how precious the good times are. How precious life is and how much we should all cherish it.

There is always another day and tomorrow could be good or bad, but you wont know for sure unless you live it.

So if you're one of those who complain about it, try thinking about how much WORSE your situation could be.

If you're arguing with your parents, consider what it's like to not have any parents at all. Consider the idea of being unwanted and shuffled from center to center, mission to mission, house to house without an end in sight. It's miserable never knowing where you're going to end up because you have no where to be.

If you hate your job, consider yourself lucky to have a job at all. Shitty as it may be, money is important. And you could always look for another one, na?

If you are having troubles with your spouse, friends or lovers, consider, for a moment, what would it be like to lose them suddenly. Not just fall out of a relationship with them but honestly lose them, permanently.

Seriously, it could always be worse. Try not to take for granted the things that you have because you never know when you're no longer going to have them.

On the reverse of that, try not to dwell on the loss when you DO lose. Loss is painful and we will all have to experience it in some form or another someday, so remember to push on and keep trying. All things must come to pass –this includes heartache my friends.

So, to sum up...

Don't regret. Don't take what you have for granted. Learn and actively practice in the art of letting things go. And, most importantly, learn to be happy.

Because in the end, when life dwindles down to the last few precious moments, the only thing that will have ever mattered was if you were happy and the memories you have of it.

So, everyone, let's be happy together and keep smiling until the very end.
