I'm actually surprised because nothing is showing/tits are covered with fur. Shouldn't a lot of pictures in my gallery depicting anthros without clothes on (no nips/genitals showing) be marked as mature too? But I accept it. think DA is finally starting to crack down on what they find mature/underage/other and what they don't.


So this brings up a question, how much 'skin' showing in an image does it take for you to get offended? No sarcasm implied. How far do you think a picture should go before it crosses the border into censorship? I'm genuinely interested :3

I never ask for help on HW assignments but I fail at researching here.

For my illustration assignment I need to come up with an animal that has an odd name (such as a pilot whale, butcher bird.. etc) that can be made into a pun of some sort (ex: pilot whale could be turned into a whale stuck into a plane or the butcher bird can be made into a bird with knives for wings)

Aka, animals names that when taken literally can be made into a humorous scene.

Except I cannot for the LIFE of me find any animals names like these save for the obvious like Nurse Shark and Painted dog (two of which I don't really want to do) if you guys could name off some animals with similar patterned names that could help me along in the thought process I'd really really appreciate it ;o;....

I posted an entry on LJ a bit ago about a specific phobia I have and I was actually curious as to the other ones out that that other people have.

I know there are lists online describing different fears and what they are but I'm genuinely curious as to real-life examples and how you guys deal with them yourselves?

I myself have a bunch of phobias/fears
Spiders
Being alone in the dark / mirrors in the dark
Talking on the phone (which is my biggest one, I'd honestly rather be in a dark room with spiders for 5 minutes than make a 5 minute phonecall if I could choose)

I try to deal with them by telling myself they're irrational and there's nothing harmful about any of them (well spiders can be poisonous but that's not why Im afraid of them xD... because I love other things such as snakes)

The way I actually dealt with my phobia of bees and overcame it was being around bumblebees and closing my eyes. After spending more and more time doing this now Im able to get close to them, completely aware and not care. (Wasps are another story because those are MEAN little bastards >:C....)

But yeah the point of this journal is for personal stories of phobias and ways you either overcame them or good ways you found to deal with them... or heck.. just about your fears in general c:

Oh boy, I got a job! Didn't really need one to be honest but I had way too much free time on my hands and extra money never hurt anyone. I do manual labor like washing dishes and the like but honestly... I love that kind of stuff. No idea why... guess I just like to use my hands for things (no not sexually, go away) but I have no complaints thus far except for their tenancy to, at 5:00 am lock out their employees and give them funny looks when they;'re banging on the door trying to get in.

Oh and I make coffee... I reek of it when I get back to my dorm in the morning.. I personally hate the smell of coffee and coffee in general but it wakes me up.


Annnnnd it's my birthday this Friday, im obviously turning old so I expect you ALL to say good words about how beautiful and young I am ! No not really.... it's not an exciting landmark birthday.. im just not pedophile worthy anymore. Im pretty sure 19 is the cut off for that.. they're still a bit iffy at 18 im sure. Damn... Heading back to Rochester/RIT on monday. At first I was all excited but now im a bit cautious about starting up school work again. Ill get over it though since im there for a week for free time before I actually start classes. Hopefully that will get me back into the swing of things. I do miss Rochester a lot.

But either way I have a fence to paint with a deadline being tomorrow (because tomorrow is set aside for packing clothes and getting everything ready for travel and whatnot) so I really need to hop on that and work all day non stop. For those wondering im painting a logo/title on a fence and a small mural on another set of boards of a fantasy sea-scape....no, no anthros involved I don't bring my furry work outside the computer unless it's to conventions

Okay wow, what's up guys? I havent written a journal about myself here for a while and I really wanted to bump that otakon mess off my front page

Nothing much to say other than I have 9 more days left until I go back to school, which.... isnt really a lot now that I think about it @_@, wow where did the summer go? Actually I had probably the worst summer of my life home here. Not really going to explain why but im just itching to get back to working with people and not sitting at home all the time / working in the library stacking books. I'm happiest when im working even if it's a ton of work. If I've got nothing to do I start to get upset very easily and think too much about everything. It's a curse. Im just praying that having people to talk to finally with get me up from this major down im in right now. Blep

But yeah I need to start packing, I know Im bringing a lot less than last year since I didnt even unpack about 3 boxes of stuff the whole school year in 2007. I only have one drawing class next quarter, the rest being science and art history. It should be a really laid back quarter except for wednesdays where im going to be up from 8:00 am to 4:00 am the next morning. Hoi. at least I have fridays off and a weekend that starts at 2:00pm thursday. Finally got a friday off.. I didnt get one last year and I just happened to get lucky and max out my credits + nab that friday by complete accident.

Blehblehbleh art wise im kind of busy, had someone commission me to mural their fence which im going to go look at today + buy brushes. I know it wont be done before school starts by any stretch but my client knows that and just wants it done by next summer which means ill be working on it on all my breaks. At least it gives me something to do right?

So Um, I don't have much to type. I DID go to Anthrocon which was neat and plan on attending FA:U and Otakon this year if everything goes well and i can make a good profit on commissions. All my anthrocon money = trip money and the money I don't spend for that goes into saving.

I have a few commissions from AnCo I need to finish and a few from FA (which is currently down). Here's some copy paste from another art account to commissioners:

3. COMMISSIONS

Now that you're set up to sell your own stuff, it's time to look into doing creations for others. More often than not, people are more willing to pay you more for an image of their own original character drawn in your style than they are to buy a print of your character of who they have little or no attachment to. Moreover, this is the foundation for freelance work and the best way to start the process. This is a good indicator of whether or not you're cut out for freelance work. You must be able to take orders on what to draw, draw something you probably wouldn't have drawn on your own, draw an image to someone else's specifications, and be able to do it in a timely manner. If you find you cannot do this or that you do not enjoy it, then you should quit immediately. Working for actual freelance jobs is going to be much more demanding than personal commissions.

a. Taking Commissions and Setting Rates

There is no special way to set up for taking commissions. You can do it through your webpage, or make a journal post on your art gallery of choice stating that you are open for commissions. It is a good idea to give a rough idea of your rates so people know what they're getting into. If you don't know what prices would be fair, try looking around at other artists that take commissions that are about at your artistic level and see what they're getting. If you do not get any commissions at your listed rates after a while, try lowering your prices. If you start getting too many commissions, feel free to raise them a little. You can also increase your prices as your skill level improves.

WHAT is the worse / funniest thing you've ever gotten uppity about copyright/trademark wise that just didn't make sense or made you feel stupid when you looked back on it?

Mine was the colored whites of the eyes thing. When I was younger i was completely convinced that was my idea, all mine no one else's etc and when people used it I got mad but I don't think I ever threw a big fit about it. I ended up getting over it and realized it wasn't an original idea to begin with 8) and yes.. Im pretty embarrassed over thinking i owned something like that.

But seriously, this journal is for fun, I want to know some stuff you looked back on as artists and just want to kick yourselves over. Action wise. 'Art theft' has become such a boy-who-cried-wolf scenario/fad on DA that we all must have stories about ourselves.

How can we live life if we can't laugh at ourselves after all?

I've been getting various notes from people that were fearful over the fact that their tail's looked similar to AC's or that a color was similar. It's stuff like this that really weirds me out.. because I know no one would send these notes to me unless some artist had flipped batshit insane about this sort of thing previous. When an artist feels as if they have to ask permission to use a generic marking or color pattern or even a plain old lion tail... something is terribly wrong with the norm.

If anyone watched R-News in the morning (as in around 7:00-8:00 am) and was watching it today they probably saw me doing some silly little questions answer thing about squirrel houses and my partner and I's design for one for 3-D. Chris was there too, he's a pretty chill kid. But it was kind of just the three of us talking and working in the woodshop.... at about 5:00-7:00 am. We all wanted to kill something (which was probably why it was good to be sawing the hell out of random pieces of wood)

Pretty nifty. I hate having microphones in my face though it makes me jittery especially since I suck at public speaking and getting my points across. But I guess it was all worth it since at lunch some older woman surprised me by being incredibly excited. She apparently saw me on TV and said what we designed was 'close to her heart' I guess she just.... really loved squirrels?

In any case Ill take some pictures of the project to put up here because I really like how out house came out. It's designed after a ladybug/suitcase. Design by functions... etc.

That's about it. 3-D was canceled today so it's nap time for me! Goodness knows I got little to no sleep last night.

Okay, not really drama hahaha, but this is really starting to get on my nerves.

I've noticed an increasing amount of people getting mad at me for having critiques discouraged on almost all my images as of late. If they're not getting mad they're trying to 'teach me a lesson' / doing it anyway because as we all know.. crits discouraged = me starting to think my art is better than everyone else's.

So let me clear something up.

1) I do NOT think my art is perfect, actually... Im very disappointed in my cartooning, especially my faces, anatomy, hands, mouthes and so forth.
2) I'm not putting up crits discouraged because I'm sensitive to crits and bawww everytime I see them , I actually LOVE crits, when I'm trying out something new or asking for them.

Now then....


Why do I put up crits discouraged on most of my submitted images now?

Well for one, I'm in college, I'm in an art program in college. Every single day from 8 in the morning till 12 at night, I am getting critiqued out my butt by teachers. And as we all know.. teachers in college are not kind when it comes to crits. They will even go as far as to shred something you've been working on for weeks and tell you sot start over. I get told my real life art is shit almost every day.. and you know what. It doesn't bother me. Because my realistic art is improving like NEVER before.

Now, after a few weeks of this... I hate to say this... but I really could use some compliments that aren't from my mother.

The art I put up on DA is Leisure artwork. Art I do to relax, to kick back and to shake of the stress of the day. I never got around to thanking you guys. I always get such great feedback on my poles and 'serious' journals both on the agreeing sides and disagreeing sides. I'd like to go ahead and thank those who agree with me and ESPECIALLY thank those who actually come up and disagree with me (that takes guts that I know a lot of people don't have these days, you can see that by my recent poll xD. Out of the 22 people who said they hate me only ONE person gave me a reason why to my face, that person has earned my respect :3, the rest of you guys.... who voted yes not as a joke, Im a bit disappointed that you left no feedback :'C not even in a note, now i will never know why ya'll hate me and I can never change if I was actually being an asshole to you guys)

But seriously, down to business. I love the amount of people that take the time to write me feedback when it's an opinion poll and not an ass kissy one like that last one xD (but man guys... 242 votes! That's seriously a good ratio. ) A lot of my serious journals will reach over 150 opinions too. Thats more than triple what a journal like... lets say this one that talks about my day, gets. That is... awesome. Seriously...you people make my day so much with those journals xD

I also have always appreciated the vast amounts of crits you give me when I ask for them (I know I dont ask for them a lot anymore but school is stressing me to death with their crits everyday so this is now my relaxing art).

I know I'm not the nicest person, I don't respond to a lot of comments, I get annoyed easily, im a smart-ass and I can be a HUGE jerk when I have a bad day but I really appreciate all the people that watch me here. If they don't show support through comments on pictures, or favorites then it's shown in poles and opinion journals.

So i get to stay home all day today because on the bus to school I decided it would be AWESOME to just vomit. So...... Nada school and I feel pretty fine.

Actually I was looking for a creative way to skip out of play practice (which goes on for 4 hours today), and I guess I found one, though it was very painful and now this poor child on the bus is scared for life from having to watch my lovely display of bodily expulsion. MMMMMMM so happy I didn't eat breakfast, honestly. Yum


Also, I get to miss a AP history debate THANK GOD, once again I completely dodge having to speak my mind in public.
