Where to begin.

I'm on break, after the end of Module 4 at Guildhall. I intended to do several things over my break, and while I think I still have plenty of time to do them, I feel like an ass for wasting today. I felt like I was cleaning just to NOT work on my computer yesterday. Which is perhaos what I need for a while. Mod 4 was supposed to be one of the hardest ones, but I managed my time well and had some time to relax during finals and only stress about the finals themselves rather than finals, finals, DFS, TGP and a host of other junk.

So. I planned to work on some environment art pieces, namely some bits of wood and some rocks of varying sizes, because that's stuff that I can use in other projects. I also planned to work out my entire MIT project structure, which should help me manage my time wisely over the next 3 mods. I'm hoping that I can keep things low key enough that I can find time to do some Portfolio items WHILE I'm working on MIT. crazy me.

But I've been lazy. We drove to arkansas over the weekend and went diamond mining, which was fun as hell. Then on monday, I felt like crap, so I just cleaned the apt and did the dishes and laundry and bathroom and stuff.

So today I spend most of the day working out my MIT stuff, wishing I could draw for it, BUT I CAN'T. Its not because I can't think or anything, I have to wait till I have my research done before I get to jump into the project proper.

One might wonder what the heck I've been doing on it then. Well, I've worked it out, and since my MIT is on how to make a game LOOK epic, I get to focus this upcoming mod on making the GAME. I'm working in Unity3d which is the best engine EV4R, and so I'm basically coding and whiteboxing this next mod. I'm partially done with a cheap little click-game where you click on bouncing spheres that ricochet around the screen for points. I've coded all this stuff myself, which is what I'm really proud of.

Elsenews, I'll be posting the 3d of Hank soon. And whatever else I've collected this mod and forgotten to upload. It won't be much though. Most of the stuff was for TGP, which was things like barrels and crates and cactus and junk. Pretty good work, but not terribly interesting and not in a format easily shown.

Hmm. Feel like there's more I should write about. can't remember. Oh. Just designed a simple little card game that I might release for free somehow. Its like tic-tac-toe with numbers. Think of that card game in FFIIV and on PlayOnline. Its like that but much simpler. as in you can actually play it with cards. Very interesting tactical choices.

OH. GRR. WHY ARE THERE NO GAMES I'M INTERESTED IN ON PS3.

Since I've been MIA for a while, I decided I'd actually write a decent, rambling, ranting, raving ...ravaging... roaring... rowdy... rumbling.... .... journal.

What's been up, arc?
I'm so glad you asked. I'm on break right now, which in the language of the workoholic means I have an entire month to get what I want to do done. I'm working on entry materials for pretty much every Directed Focus Study area (aside from animation). Its a lot of work, but some of it overlaps, which is cool. I'm also working on 2 video games right now, and I'm Lead Artist on both, though one doesn't have any artists except me >_>...

I haven't signed any NDAs on this stuff, but I don't think the guys would appreciate me blabbing about everything about all the projects. I can safely say that one is a magnet based 2d sidescroller, for which I am doing an elaborate setup of making 3d art and rendering it to 2d to use in the engine. The other is Starshade Valley, a little more public. Its about space cowboys fighting hordes of dark matter Shades. Its in 3d, using the Unreal 3 engine, which gives me migraines, but has a lot of potential. The setting is just tech-y enough not to turn me off, which is perfect. I wouldn't have picked cowboys, but I think we did a good job of taking the concept to a place where we're all comfortable.

In other news, the folks are coming down to Plano today, and I'm glad I'll get to see them for a bit. Been tough to keep in touch with everyone during school. Been tough to find time to upload the stuff I want to to DA, and I've primarily been working on things that wouldn't interest people too much, like parallax mapped dirt and stuff.

Also been trying to dig up more music to listen to, found some good stuff by Ayreon, Angelspit and others. My chair is falling apart.

Bought a new mouse. Lots of top notch gaming appliances now, an n52, lachesis mouse, g15 keyboard bleh. and all I play is dragonica. heh.

I'll be dumping more stuff up as I think of what I forgot of, so keep your eyes peeled. Peace, hominids.

Mkay. Crazy, Crazy day. IÂm writing this journal in word, because IÂm SURE itÂll take some time. IÂm also sure itÂll get pretty stream-of-consciousness, so bear with me.
IÂm writing this, primarily to thank all the people who made my Daily Deviation Possible.

Alright, now on to what my Monday was like. Put your helmet on, because this will blow your mind, as Jimmy would say.
So here I am, sleeping. I wake up, take a shower. No milk for the cereal. Sigh. I get packed, moving my computer and electronics into my giant xps backpack and my side-bag. I saddle up, say goodbye to Liz, to trundle down my stairs and out to the car, where my window is rolled down. I look in the window, and my seat, and the arm of the door and everything are soaked. I find that I left my pullovers in the car, so I mop up as much as I can, realize IÂm behind, and plopped into the moist seat. IÂm damp by the time I get to class. Sigh. But, I get into class, and get set up, computer components everywhere. I work on tweaking a new piece of hardware to speed up my workflow while waiting for class. Then we found out the class is just a work day, giving me much needed time to work on Production Art for Devour. I have everything all cut up and set out by half way through the morning, no sweat. I chill for a while, chatting with classmates and laughing about some pretty funny jokes. Class is pulling to a close, so I check my email again, and I randomly glance at my DA page. For some odd reason, I seem to be 2000 pageviews higher than a couple of days ago. ThatÂs weird. I wonder what my graph looks like.

There can be only ONE thing that could have happened to cause this influx of viewers. I trot over to my latest deviation, AH + M. HOLYCRAPHOLYCRAP. HOLY

CRAP. I GOT A DD? I GOT A DD!
The power goes out.
[DO NOT WANT!] <- (translated from Chinese I ACTUALLY SCREAMED)
I laugh it off, and go outside to hang out, call Liz, tell her the news, and shoot off a quick email to tell my folks to check it out before closing my computer to save power. I eat lunch and go to class, and sure enough, class is canceled. But before we leave, we have Professor Walker come and look at our vehicles. Then, right as we finish up, the power comes back on and we have to actually do our presentations. Sigh. But we go out to dinner at Red Lobster and I run back to school to work on the finishing up of Devour. I talk to Tom for bit about tablet pcs while our installer builds, then I get cracking on my low-poly. Eventually, we have 5 copies burnt and a source disk, meaning that we are GOLD. Our Game Is Done.
So thatÂs where IÂm at. IÂm having finals, but IÂll be riding the high of that DD for a week at least.

So graduate school has sunk in, and I'm feeling pushed but not stressed yet. I've done like 275 drawings for class so far, and some of us are even pushing to do more homework than needed for the classes. Its basically because we like to do it and we want to excel. So we started a little club, ~Concept-Coalition to share our work. We plan to pick themes to practice the ability to work in a given style.

Well, I got my forth edition book in the mail from amazon the other day. had it for about three days so far. As I read through it, I noticed a few points that I had on it. I'd like to note that I have had a very positive viewpoint up till now.

*Powers are cool, but seem weak compared to standard attacks.
*Attack/Defense system rocks like an asteroid.
*Combat is simplified and kicks ass
*Like the new actions system of 3 types.
*Class builds don't allow for enough customization.
*Epic needs serious help.
*Epic tier feels more like Levels 15-18 rather than 21+ of 3.5
*"Multiclassing" feats are lame. (huk huk, Lame Feat)
*characters are easy to build, but the power Replacement thing doesn't make sense
*Feats are weak in general
*Very limited feat and power selection leads to strict adherence to preset builds and less customization.
*Equipment rocks hard, but I want to see more
*Book overall does a good job of making players and readers want to see more products.

Well, obviously, my tablet has returned functional. The power light doesn't work, but everything else does. They made sure I understood that I could crap out unless I shell $200 on a new mobo. But alas, I have not $200. In fact, I need my tablet, so that I might acquire $200. Hopefully some more work and practice will entice some gaming companies to take me seriously. Starting to get frustrated at my lack of skill. People around me like my stuff, but then again, they're not industry leaders in concept art or game design.

Well, I found out that I'm done, totally done with Graphic Design. No final review or anything, that's for a different class that I already had. One history final and some cleaning for sculpture and thats it.

But of course, the day that I decide to start painting every day for eight hours is the day that the cats spill water on my tablet, possibly ruining it. Its already been a hell of a day.

I got in. I apologize for not letting everyone know earlier. Been busy, you know how it is. The Committee seems to want me to go for a big book and a sculpture of the Nestbuilder. I'm not sure I want to use Crow, because he's NOT a nestbuilder, and the whole point was to articulate that specific creature, so I'm considering welding a head and bust of him and making a big standing cloak thing out of him. Might do the flesh with silicone.

In other news, :devKatherineHawke and I have been watching a goodly amount of anime in our free time. We finished Hand Maid May (

) and Tenjho Tenge (meh) the other day. I liked the characters in TT, but I definitely was not a fan of the story structure and writing. So now we're on to Samurai Deeper Kyo and SoulTaker.

Scientists say that Stevens Point has reentered what is known as 'The Goldilocks zone,' a narrow band of orbital space that receives enough light to warm the ice to water, but not so much that it boils off.

Truly, this geological and astronomical event is cause for celebration.

Well, thanks to *rosesarepink and dad, I've just acquired a potent White sewing machine. Its got lots of features and such, and should be a pretty good asset while working on this wearable sculpture stuff. Could be fun for bookbinding too. I think it'll come in handy.

Still working on school stuff. As an example, I spent all of friday working on my Tales of the New Empire book project for Design. All day. and most of the evening. while ~KatherineHawke was there. I felt bad. I did some shopping with her the next day, for guess what: school projects. That night, we began construction of parts for Wraith, my project for Studio. Sunday, I spent doing a little more shopping for Wraith, and getting paper and ink for my Design promotional package. So, now its monday, and I have stuff to sketch before class at 2:30, and several screens of my web work to capture.

It's a busy semester, and I catch myself thinking about how nice it would be to have a vacation. Unfortunately, I need a job, as soon as possible, which largely precludes any vacationing in the foreseeable future.

Well, for those of you who don't know, this semester, I'm going to kill myself. I have two "491" classes, which are the final exhibition for your entire Art and Design career at UWSP. I'm double majoring, so I need to have both 491 in Studio and 491 in Design at the same time. Its going to be a lot of work, to say the absolute least.

I spent last night laying in bed, unable to sleep, trying to work over my direction for my Studio thesis. Right now, I'm thinking of a creature very similar to Crow, one that I'm calling Wraith at the moment. Where as Crow was huge and bulky, Wraith will be smaller, aggressive, nasty, and mean. I'm still working out the ideas for Wraith, so I'd appreciate discussion on it.

I'll be putting up thumbs of Crow on this journal shortly.

Artsbash was a blast. You don't even know. ¹ I modeled the piece I made for the Runway show, a dragon crow monster thing with a twenty foot long tail. People loved it. I was very excited. It was a lot of work though, because the interior is made of seran wrap and is very hot. I even danced in it though. Plus, I managed to sell the Print of Nestbuilder that I had in my gallery show. WOOO!! My first big sale!!! OOHH YEAH!!

Been binging on anime and manga the last few days. Been good for relaxation. mmmm. If you haven't seen Fate/Stay Night, watch it.

My custom painter brushes suck bad. I don't use painer very often because photoshop does linework and stuff much more fluidly. If anyone can help me make better brushes for Painter I'd be forever indebted. Or at least very appreciative.

My cat seemed to have been knocked senseless or... stoned. Earlier this evening I was staying away from the computra and he RAAN up to the arm of the couch!! AND DOVE FACEFIRST Into the floor. allinonefellswoop. just bdbdbdbdbdbdKERFACEPLANT. THEN the little fool decided he STILL wanted to be up on the cat tower he WAS aiming for and lept up to reach it. He landed a single foolish paw on the bed liner thing and pulled that down on top of himself as he fell backwards and hit his little cat noggin on the same couch arm he had just fallen right off of. I was worried that he had been struck dumb or something, turns out he was just feeling rambunctious.

Foolish feline housebeast.

And yes, housebeast is my new term for cat.

Liz and I are working out ideas for ANOTHER new game I'm in process of writing. This new one is tag oriented and very simple, the cool thing about it is that EVERY, repeat, EVERY creature in it will be utterly new. If its similar to and old archetype, we're twisting it. If its not, its a totally new critter. So the Gigant and the Nestbuilder are both critters from this new game, and I plan on doing many more of these type of works soon.

Rob told us to think of how much work we can reasonably produce for painting. then he told us to shoot for twice that much. If he wants us to have a shot at reaching that, I'ma be very much more busy. I've been saying I need to do more digital art these past few weeks, but I haven't really been able to keep my word on that. I'm doing like.. one a week, whereas its supposed to be like 4. Anyway.

This year, I'm going to be in the three big art clubs on campus, American Institute for Graphic Arts, Student Art League, and the 3D and Animation club. Those should be interesting. I'm in the visiting artist committee for several of them, and we will be looking into bringing people in; I would love to find someone in digital art.

Just had my first crit for painting today. It was pretty good. My work actually impressed people and they seemed to like most of it. The downside is that its 2:30 and I'm just getting lunch. Arng Arng.

After a whole weekend of working all day on homework, the end is near. Except that its monday, and no longer the weekend, but hey. ... oh wait. I have more work to do.

Le sigh.

Well, today I finished my presentation for our first project for Package Design. That was pretty irritating. The next one should at least be interesting. Its a birth control project marketed at three different demographics.

I'm tired. Its early for that, and its probably just today, but I'm really tired. I have a night set up to game, and it still doesn't happen, even with a potential gathering of 8 people besides me. Liz will be here in 20 minutes, and if no one shows up for a half hour or fortyfive minutes, I'm giving up all hope. We'll just do something ourselves. Apparently I have to be dating someone for their schedule to coincide with mine. That'll get awkward in my career.

Sigh again. Maybe I should just grab the PSP and my book and take shelter this weekend.

Existentialism, art and this book I'm reading are all colluding. I'm seeing my perception of organized religion go right down the drain this semester. Its pretty interesting, and kind of... nerve-wracking. I always knew I was a cynic, but this is pretty excessive. I just keep running into more and more evidence for an un-religious life. Its making me think about unholiness, heresy, and persecution as themes. I'm considering bringing these into my art, because it seems relevant to my point of view right now.

Incidentally, I suggest no poets or artists take Kierkegard too seriously.

I need to get into some deeper discussion on art and philosophy of art. Anyone direct me to a good spot on DA?

Senior Seminar - Rough, but doable, lots of paper writing.
19th-20th C Phil - Funtimes. hope the class is talkative and has opinions.
Package Design - More interesting than I thought, though its with my least favorite professor
3D design - Cakewalk, did all this in the previous class

So. It should be a hard but fun semester. I'm going to try to keep doing my 1 hour a day of painting on the computer. I also need to kick the writing back into gear. Once my schedule settles out, I'll be able to figure out when to do such things a little better.

I have a neat little corner in the art studio for myself now. It'll be fun.

I believe that I have a pretty vivid imagination. I'm pretty good at visualizing stuff. Sometimes its a curse. Sometimes a blessing.

I don't usually have dreams that I remember. And I never have dreams that seem so real that I can't forget about them.

I had a dream this morning about an old flame from highschool. It was pretty simple, just a prolonged hug, but it was so vivid I can't shake it. Can't even look her up either, and I haven't talked to her for ... probably about 4 or 5 years.

I sure hope I meet someone fun when school rolls around. Or at GenCon.

Irate.

Its already a third over. For me anyway. I think.

I was real proud the other day when I finished 1/2 of the Regional Maps for the Book. Then I realized that that's 7, out of 13. Then, theres the other 89 that I have to do, which are five layers more complex than these regional maps. And I'm still under pressure to get a job and work for the remaining two months.

I'd love to sell commissions. I've got a few on my plate already, and they're not going to awesome. I've yet to finish the line art for the Shirow Group pic I'm "working" on. I was intending to work on two comics, and I have three frames for one of them. thats it.

I was supposed to be working on writing the Geography section of the Book too. Not much has happened with that.

And on top of that, the gaming I was trying to organize for this summer has almost flopped entirely. only a scant handful of people are interested. And while they're great players, they're so few that we can't get anything to work half the time since people are gone often. Bleeeh. need fresh gamer blood.

I'd like to thank ~Frozen-Water and ~Phreoth for their gaming support, at any rate. pretty much the only two who have been getting me interested enough to work on anything. Perhaps I should set them on keeping me occupied and excited to work on my many and myriad projects.

This sucks. I feel like I never finish anything. Pissing me off.

Not really. I'm updating my journal CSS as thou may hast noticed. I'm spending much of today relaxing in congratulations of my honors this semester. first time in a while I had a semester with honors. damn me and taking hard classes. I doubt I'll score this high next semester.

I'm working on setting up the two kindacomics I'd like to work on this summer. The basic idea, if I havent stated this before is that if I give myself little tiny bites to work on, I can do it more often and will get into a habit of doing it that will keep me doing it. Its like... training a kitten. Except that treats only work on arcandio sometimes. and he gets complacent fast.

Also, I'll be changing my basic idea for my maps due to a cool conversation with Professor Bywaters. She suggested an old masters sketch type feel. Basically ink or charcoal and white charcoal on toned paper. I think it'll be really cool.

Decided that my basic theme for my Digital Collage class this summer will be twisted religious themes. Should be rather interesting.

anyway, wish me luck. I'll be posting concept art and such soon about them comics and maps and stuff.
