All this would be okay except being the neurotic person I am ... well, I feel guilty!

In reality I am sure that the people who watch me are not getting depressed over my abscence or that any one really notices that I have been derelict in my thanking. But being all too human, I can't help but feel that I should be here and communicating with all!

So my friends ... please accept my heartfelt or guilt ridden (depending on your perspective) apology ... and my generic thank you one and all!!!

I will be back once my world quiets down ... I truly miss my friends here and will be dropping by for a look as often as I can ... hopefully once I have my courses completed I will have a bundle of inspiration to share!

It was lovely ... basically a driving trip down I5 to Lassen Volcanic Park in California and then to Southern Oregon to explore the Oregon Caves and then home again. I have a lot of photo's taken from the car as we had little time and lots of distance but it was fun! It is amazing how much you can see driving down an Interstate highway ... well at least in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, and Northern California.

I have a couple of new contests to promote and some new features coming up (they will be up in the next couple of weeks ... still compiling something new and different)!

I have submitted my print for the ~DAmusicproject ... it is a little different for me ... lots of detail in the trees but hard to see on the computer as it is a dark (in colour) image. Very fun contest to enter ... a true challenge to come up with something different! Voting starts on August 25th ... so we will see. I don't usually do very well with "voting" contest but my goal in entering is not all about winning. It is more about having a goal, the challenge and a deadline!

The images was done for the two line in the song by Bob Dylan "A Hard Rain"

My lines where "I saw a white ladder all covered with water"

and

"I'll walk to the depths of the deepest dark forest"

The comments with the image describe my thoughts on why I did this for those lines.

I have a new image "A Little Lamp Light" [link] ... it is a simple one but I have been wanting to do something with a feel of Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World [link] . I didn't want to copy; just to get a bit of the same "look". It didn't quite work out that way but it does have something about it I like and really wanted to get something finished!

So that is about it ... I have updated my features and included a list of some interesting contests, other than that I have now spent my allotted time on the computer (physio says no more than 2 hour per session) That's all for now ... HUGS!

And just to add a taste of danger to this idyllic environment Â the bears are out and about. All in all it is a beautiful time of the year!

As a child I would pick (actually steal) flowers from neighbourhood gardens and atke them home to my mother. She was always so kind Â she knew that they had come from someoneÂs garden but she also appreciated (and loved) that I did it for her. She would explain how much she loved wild flowers and that if I picked those she would be even more thrilled! ï

I spent my last day off taking photoÂs at a local Heron rookery and will be posting some of the images soon. Since I am writing this at work (bad me

) I have to wait until I am at home.

My newest photomanip it just about finished but I have had a poem roaming around my brain and would like to try to dig it out and submit them both at the same time. The image is a little different for me and I think that if the story/poem comes out it will be a good one!

As for my features Â those too will have to wait until I can find some free time at home but I will get to it soon and try and revamp the whole thing!

I am working on a few pieces but it is slow going. I am going through a bit of a dry spell ... nothing serious. I think I'm tired of Winter and ready for Spring!!!

As my camera has really given up the ghost and does not work at all I am saving my pennies! I have managed to find some extra work and hopefully that will bring in enough to enable me to get it fixed or get a new one (depending on the cost of the repair it may make more sense to just buy one). If it goes as planned (

) I hope to be photographically enabled by the end of May!

My Mom used to say "No news is good news!" So going by a twisted version of that wisdom I have been avoiding listening, reading and watching the News! Until yesterday!

Yesterday I happened to turn the radio on for a few moments and caught the latest "BAD NEWS" about General Motors !

"Why?" you ask "Why, would this be a concern?"

Well, you see, my husbands job is closely tied to GM's "health" and if they go under we don't know what will happen to his job, or his pension, or our future (he has been with the same company for over 25 years)! This creates a somewhat scary, frustrating and nail biting situation!

So as I listened to the news my mind started to run away with me (which is sometimes a very bad thing for it to do!!!) That got me onto Google and my searching lead me to a lot more information; more than I really needed to know (going by the no news, good news theory)!

I discovered that you have to multiply my concerns by all the those other people directly or semi-directly employed by the "Big 3" (Ford, Chrysler, GM) and you come up with a number in excess of 2.5 Million. That's a lot of people! Then I began to read peoples comments on the forums and blogs (not on dA) about GM's current situation. They went something like this ...

"Oh, just let them go Bankrupt!"

"All the bailout is doing is lining the CEO's pockets and they are getting richer on taxpayers dollars!"

"We would be better off without them!"

"Why waste tax payers money on saving these corporate dinosaurs!"

"The UAW workers deserve to lose their jobs"

These are just a few of the hundreds of comments I found... and they are the milder (kinder?) ones; it gets much worse ... some are downright cruel ... it is like they HATE the UAW and GM???

Don't these people realize what a HUGE impact the loss of these companies would have; not only on the US economy, but on the world (and on them)!

Imagine ... 2.5 Million jobs lost ...BOOM ... just like that! And that is just people working in positions closely related to the auto industry; you also have to take into consideration the huge numbers affected by the trickle-down effect.

How many taxpayer dollars will go to help all those unemployed; how much lost revenue from those people who become unemployed and are no longer paying taxes!!!

Yes things do need to change but before people start talking about just letting these Corporations die, perhaps they need to realize that these are not faceless "Corporations" but PEOPLE! People who will lose their jobs, their homes, their pensions, their future! And people who will stop supporting the economy when they are no longer employed... and down we go in a viscous economic spiral!

I believe that most of the people employed at GM, Ford and Chrysler have spent their lives working hard and doing a job they thought was a positive and beneficial one. Yes they made a good income and had great benefits but that does not make them the enemy.

They did not create the increase in gas prices! They did not bring on the economic crisis! They had nothing to do with the Mortgage/SubPrime situation! They did not force 25% of the people in North America into buying SUV's! Nor did they (alone) cause global warming! We all have some responsibility in what is happening in the world today! We all need to "OWN" it and work together to fix it!

So, while I have no real answer to this crisis, these are my thoughts on the situation.

Instead of blaming any Corporation or Group ... let's all take responsibility and, with humility and hope, work on creating a positive, stable and healthy future.

We could put LESS trust in the media; not let it control and frighten us into digging an even deeper hole than the one we are in. Let's stop running scared; we can stand up and work on the situation together and demand that the media support and perpetuate a more positive attitude/outcome.

I do believe that we need to allow ourselves to be a more confident in our daily lives; budget, yes but let's not tighten our belts to the point where we are strangling!

I am not advocating going out and spending thousands of dollars and incurring large debts but perhaps be a little less cautious and support(financially) our neighbours, our community and our country; and make a start at generating a healthy economy.

If we believe things will improve ...they will!

Why do I trust this to be true? Well I have been having some very deep thoughts lately about "Courtesy and The Art of Saying Thank You".

It all started with the idea that it would be neat if the Activity page could be sorted by the Deviant or Deviation (the person who commented, faved, add a watch or by the image/poem in question) instead of just by date

I felt that this would be great for a number of reasons but, in particular, it would be helpful in the process of thanking people. I put this suggestion in a forum with the thought that it was a reasonably good idea...

Well, this stared a mini-controversy (mostly in my own head) about the etiquette and necessity of responding to and thanking people. (If you are interested in the actual conversation (forum) it is here [link])

I have seen many comments on this in other Journals and felt that it has stimulated a lot of thought and interest... so I wanted to get in my two cents worth.

Anyway ... to justify my reasons for wanting to communicate my thanks as much as possible I quoted Robert A. Heinlein (incorrectly

); that got me thinking, it would be interesting to do a Poll and see what people thought about the quotes (both mine and Heinlein's).

So have fun and send in some feedback ... it will be interesting to see how my mini social experiment goes!

Well the New Year has started and I'm feeling good!

It is going to be GOOD not matter how bad it is!!!

Now how is that for being optomistic!

I have being having COMPUTER problems which I am sure I have I whined about too much already but most of is now fixed ... still have a few kinks to work out but nothing major (gulp ... knock on wood)!

NOW ... JUST A LITTLE BLURB ON CONTESTS (and why I enter them)

I actually feel guilty entering them ... feel like I am being too competitive and all that. But I enjoy it so here is my reasoning-it-out thoughts (you know ones you think when you are suppose to be sleeping) ...

When it comes down to it I am not really looking to win (and have been very shocked when I did). Don't get me wrong; it is a THRILL to win! It just seems that most of the time I end up cheering for and hoping that someone else who has entered will win; I usually prefer other peoples work to my own.

Next and very true is that it seems the best way to get my artwork out there and noticed... I also want to join some clubs just not sure which ones (although I am a member of Dreamers of Avalon [link])... I have a couple of friends that are members in a bunch of club so I think I'll pick their brains and see what I come up with. Sorry, I digress ...

And finally I think one of my MAIN reason for submitting ... I love having a theme to work with; I can sometimes be very "un-directed" in my work ... you know a little Attention Deficit sets in I am working on 6 different half finished ideas but when I have restrictions on stock usage or a theme it really helps me to stay on track. And the deadline means that the shiny object that catches my eye (see digression in last paragraph

) won't tempted me away from my work (well, at least not for too long :giggle)

SO ... saying all that it is time to tell you about the contest I am planning to (or have) entered ...

All of these would have been done sooner but I lost some recent work when my computer went - not much as I backup quite a bit! THANK GOODNESS!

). But the re-install to a long time as I decided to do upgrades etc. ... what a hassle! But I finally finished and then went start to work on finishing my entry for the Schizophrenia contest being held by

and non too soon as it is the last day!

My image is loosely based on a number of conversations I had with a close friend when he was first slipping into the delusions and hallucinations of Schizophrenia. He had no idea what was happening to him and truly believed that what he was hearing and seeing was real.

Schizophrenia is a serious and devastating illness ... education and understanding are so important ... the more people who become aware that it is not "multiple personality disorder" and learn how wide spread and cruel the illness can be the more chance we have of saving our loved ones and friends from a lot of the suffering this illness causes (there is no cure but early diagnosis is helpful).

I realized it was high time to change my journal but I've been so busy that I don't even know where to begin!

I do have some artwork almost completed but I am still not happy enough to upload quite yet!

Some of my Scotland photos are ready to upload (I think I will only leave them up temporarily). I received a gift of Lightroom 2 a couple of weeks ago and it is helping me fix (sort of) the exposure problems.

The first ones are not my favourites but I am working through the trip chronologically and my "special" ones are the Abbeys and those were taken in the latter part of the journey.

This is my Journal dedicated to those who brave the rigors of "The Contest". There is a lot of work involved, always the possiblity that no one will enter, or too many will enter (EG: *mjranum-stock).

Aside from those hassles you have to gather/coordinate all the prizes and judges. Then after all that is done you have to set up your Journal and keep track of all the entries.

NEW FEATURE - My Favourite Stock Providers - Part One

Just a quick note to thank everyone for their support last week. It was so kind and certainly made a difference.

Things are beginning to settle down for Autumn. The rain has come and the sound of it gently beating away on the roof is very soothing.

I was born into a climate that has lot of rainfall and I find that I miss it when the sun shines too long.

Don't get me wrong, I love the sun but there is something sleepy and calming about being tucked inside on a rainy night or walking a shoreline engulfed in a raincloud that has turned everything into an ocean of gray.

I guess I just like the seasons ... I feel the same way come Spring ... tired of the rain and desperately waiting for the first crocuses to peek their purple heads out of the earth.

Well... that is it for now. I am off to work on some art and then to bed.

NEW FEATURE - My Favourite Stock Providers - Part One

I have not (yet) been able to work with all of these wonderful stock providers but I am inspired by their work and have plans to create something special with as much of it as possible before I am 80! ...I have seen some amazing artwork based on the truly incredible stock these artists provide!!!

First let me say ... please do not feel that this journal entry is in any way depressing ... maybe a little sad but it is more of a tribute to a wonderful family.

My Uncle passed away last weekend; he was the last of my Mothers siblings and to me it is like the end of a wonderful and amazing story.

In a lot of ways that story ended when my Mother left us ... but (like a lot of good books) there was a prologue and that is now over.

There will be sequels and offshoots; there are grandchildren and great-grandchildren ...the generations will go on. But it just won't be the same without that part of my family.

Sure, they had there faults and we had our differences but there was a lot of love, kindness and sharing.

So I have written a little poem ... don't know if it makes any sense but it helped to write it and I think that is a good thing ... and you get a wee glimpse into my brain

Memory, Time, Life

She wanders through her life
Tides of memory flow
In ...out ...in ...out ... in ...out

And strewn upon the beach
A tangled, driftwood past
Laid down like crumbs of time

As you can guess, I have been a bit busy with family. We have a few relatives in town and more coming this weekend. So my time has been limited and I have not given much attention to all my amazing friends here.

I wanted to let you all know that I miss you and I will be back once things settle down and get back to normal (if there is such a thing ).

I received my Wacom tablet and love it. Have not had as much time to play as I would like but will give a full report after the weekend (I AM DETERMINED to spend some time on my artwork at some point in the next 2 days )

Something I am planning to do in the near future is a "tribute" feature to my favourite stock providers.

I decided to do this after reading HiddenYume-stock [link] Journal; she mentioned that they are not getting that many people using their stuff. If you are looking for some wonderful stock images give them a try.

This week was much better and aside from the Contest (which I still think is incredible) don't tell anyone ...shhhhhh it is my birthday on Monday (yeah, I was born on Labour Day ).

So ... it is amazing how things go full circle ... round and round we go ... where we stop ... well ... we never stop!

Why do we wake-up some days in a real funk for no apparent reason?

This morning, for no apparent reason, the blues crept up and hit me like a sledgehammer. I figured that if I got myself up and off to work it would get better ... it only got worse (but that is another story).

Eventually the day wound down to now ...sitting in front of the computer and browsing my "friends". I happened across Biomech44's new art and story (pause here to see/read his work). Well ...to make a long story a little shorter, I now feel somewhat better!

I have added Biomech44 to my features below! You really have to get up-close and personal with his images. I like to download them so I can really study the truly incredible detail! Enjoy

SCOTLAND TRIP & PHOTOS

I had great intentions of getting the photos of my journey to Scotland uploaded by the end of July. The problem is, I am not very happy with them. They are all too dark ... it could be that something is wrong with my camera's light meter or maybe the photographer just wasn't working very well?

Anyway, I am trying to reclaim some from the darkside but it is taking quite a bit of time and I don't have much of that right now.

Not much more to say ... I think I will go and immerse myself in hot water and then a good book! That and the wonderful distraction by Biomech44 should help lift me out of this mood.

It was a wonderful theme and great inspiration! I spent as much free time as I could working on it and listening to "Music for Zen Meditation" (Tony Scott) and the Soundtrack from "Memoirs of a Geisha". I also wrote a Haiku, not the best thing I have ever written but it kept running around my brain in various forms so added it.

I came in 3rd place in the Dark Is Her Demeanor contest which was a real SHOCK ... there was some incredible art in the contest and it was very unexpected! I really appreciated it and getting the sub when I was still unemployed really helped!

All it good and, really, who could ask for more.

Well apart from a few days off my feet and laying flat on my back ... ugh! Other than that ... life is good!!!

I am a bit behind in my CSS learning and haven't entered any more contest since Dark is my Demeanor ... but I don't have to worry for a while ... I will have 3 months to try again as Exile's Wall came in 3rd!!! Thank you to all the kind and wonderful judges!!!

I have a choice of a print or sub ... would really love to have one of Elandria's prints instead of the sub but beggars can't be choosers so I have promised myself that when I get a job I will buy one of her pieces!

Other than that I am going to expand on the features of other artist as often as I can! So there may be more journals from me for a while.

Well ... I have decided it is time to learn how to do a CSS page for my site!!!

Quite a challenge but hopefully with the assistance of a tutorial [link] and the free CSS Wireframe Journal [link] by Elandria I will manage.

Once that is figured out I would like to start doing features of other artists (stock, photo-manip, photography etc.); there are sooooooo many wonderful images out there that I would love to share! I would like to concentrate on people who have minimal favs but who's work I love!!!

Other than that I am thinking of moving my photography to this site as I never seem to go to the other site and it is just sitting there all alone!
(Plus I can now put them in there own little gallery! Yippeeee!)

Next ... I am going to try a couple of more contests; I would like to see if I can win a subscription ... as my job did not work out (long story) money is a bit tight and I will have to renew in August . Not a big deal ... I can afford to renew whether I win or not but it would help.

Not much more to say ... I have a couple of images just about complete and should have some photo's of Scotland uploaded soon.

Well, I can't believe it ... I have a job and it is basically doing what I love best ... working in PS all day! I am very busy learning the in's and out's right now and the only thing I don't like about it is I don't have much time for my artwork. But even that isn't bothering me and I am sure once I learn more about their process I will have more time!

I can't quite believe it! I have another week of training and if that goes well I am "hired"!

So everyone wish me luck!

On top of all that my husband decided he wanted to go to Scotland this Spring (for his birthday) so I am planning a vacation! What fun!

I have some works in progress but they are on the back burner until I get more secure with the job.

I have drawn a Dragon and I have been working matching it up with an image for MONTHS; I think that I am going say "It's done" (even though I don't think it ever will be). I will upload it and see what kind of reaction I get.

Other than that I hope to get a couple of things finished by the end of April (work permitting )!

Well it looks like submitting the deviation Inner Child was what I needed to get me moving again.

Well, I have been having a difficult time lately; nothing I do, artistically, seems right. My life is pretty strange right now so maybe that is affecting the way I feel about my art. I have 4 or 5 images I am working on but just can't seem to get any of them to a place where I feel they are complete. There is alway something a little off ... so I just decided last night to submit one anyway ... finished or not!

It is one I am submitting to the Dark Feelings contest [link] being held by freaky665. The feelings expressed are despair, melancholia and saddness and although it is not dark, a wee bit of hope. And again there is a poem to accompany it.

Well, I will keep plodding along ... you know I always seem to be whining in this journal so to those who read it ... thank you for lending an ear or eye (as the case may be). It is great to vent and this seems like a good place. After all my husband can only take so much

Well, I have just spent a week or so redoing my website The Image Garden [link] . I would love feedback so if anyone has time ... let me know what you think!!! ...I have been looking at it for too long now and just can't tell if it is okay anymore!

After that I HAD to go through all my "friends" deviations ...
I had been very bad; there were over 1200 ... a lot of them were old ones I had already looked at but I am a hoarder and hate to "delete" anything! Which explains why I have four 500GB hard drives and still need more!!!!

Anyway ... with all that and looking for a new job I have not been doing much art ... I do have one manip that I put up Floats Ân Fog. It was a debate whether to put it up here or on my photography account but even though it doesn't look like much I actually changed the original quite a bit.

Well, I really hope everyone had a super Christmas/holiday and a great New Year. Mine was uneventful but spent with family which was wonderful. I got the latest Spectrum book and also Volume 2 & 3 (I had the whole set but my daughter lost 4 of them)... still need 4 & 6 but I am getting there.

Well, I have been in and out of the hospital for the last month or so and it has been a drag! On top of that my computer was not working ... graphics card went and I had to send it in to be replaced (it was still under warranty thank goodness).
But my computer is fixed now and I am feeling a lot better!

I am still having trouble believing that I came in first in the TRAGIC KINDOM CONTEST ... it has been the one bright thing in a summer of yuck!

Autumn is looking up though... we are off on our holiday soon and I am sure that everything will just get better and better from there. It doesn't seem real that I will be in Italy soon! Hopefully I will find some inspiration (hospitals are inclined to suck it out of you). Only thing I will miss is my computer ... won't be able to go online for awhile!

TRAGIC KINDOM CONTEST

I am in shock ...

I am still bouncing up and down doing my "happy" dance

My entry for the TRAGIC KINDOM CONTEST came in 1st Place

It has been a rough month or two ... I had surgery, then fell down some stairs and tore the ligaments in my foot ... had further medical problems (an infection) and my computer is sick now too so I have to use a VERY old computer and can't really do much work on my pictures until I get a replacement graphics card. So, as I am sure you can imagine, this has come at a perfect time ... it has really cheered me up!

Well I had surgery last week and am finally feeling well enough to spend a bit of time on my computer. It was quite sudden; found out that I had a gall bladder the hard way ...had is the key word as it is now gone.

The hardest part (aside from the PAIN) was not being able to sit at my computer

... but I can sit up for almost an hour now ... so it is getting better!

I have been doing a lot of thinking and have some ideas on what I want to do next.

Well I put up my entry for the TRAGIC KINDOM CONTEST. It was a little nerve racking as it is the first contest I have entered.

I got so involved in the piece I almost hated to finish it ... but that is the strange thing about art, eventually you have to finish but you never fell like you got it the way you REALLY wanted it; you never fell as if it is truly done. But as it goes, I think it was not too bad. It sure helps having such wonderful stock to work from!

I have another idea so I am going to try and move on ... I have another 4 day weekend coming up so want to get it started so I can spend lots of time on it. Not a contest this time but in doing A Bitter Wind I got a couple of ideas from CausticStock and Elandria's work so I will give it a whirl

It is amazing how a couple of days makes a difference; not to mention I have a 4 day weekend coming up ...

Well I am going to work on my picture for a while ... I just spent a bunch of time organizing my music so I can listening while I work and not have to spend hours trying to find the right "mood" music.

I went to the Doctor today and found out my cholesterol is quite high ... my sister past away 18 months ago from a stroke and she had the same problem ... was sort of a miserable day (missing Hahle more than usual, worring about my own health and it was raining to boot)

. But it did give me incentive to do something ... I am going to try and get it (cholesterol levels) down on my own for 2 months and then see what's up.

Part of the problem is I really didn't like the doctor ... my regular Doc was away (she is GREAT) but this guy was not very nice. Spent a somewhat sad day but went for a walk in the rain and listened to the birds sing this evening and then worked on my picture for the Tragic Kingdom contest... I feel a lot better now.

Well I am off to bed as I have a really good book and that also will help to improve the day.

Things can get better ... just have to try and put a positive spin on it ... just have to figure out which direction is the positive one!
