FallCon was this weekend and what a great Con it was! This Con is what a comic book Con should be. It was all about the comic books and that's it. No need for wrestlers, "actors" ultimate fighters or any of their kind to spice it up and turn the convention into something it is not. The other great thing about this Con was the treatment of the creators. Food, drink, and courteous help were all in abundance and I would definitely recommend this convention to anyone who can make it next year. I had a really good time there and wanted to thank everyone who stopped by the table and got sketches or just stopped by to take a look at the art.

Well, as the title of my journal would state, I have been royally screwed over and feel that it is necessary to share this information with the DA community to hopefully avoid anyone else having to screwed over like I did.

It has been almost a year now since I have completed the full issue of Grimm Fairy Tales #33 for Zenescope Entertainment and I haven't received a dime for any of the work I did. Back in late winter, I was really hurting for jobs and trying to just stay afloat with my rent bills and car payments. I figured it was about time to escalate my hassling of Zenescope and let them know how much I needed the money I was owed. It seemed that they were sympathetic to my cause but because they had spread themselves to thin, they would not be able to pay the full amount. They were going to pay in installments. Well at this point I was pretty pissed off. I didn't take out a loan! After I mellowed out, I realized that any amount of money I could get from them would help out, but that wasn't going to happen either.

So my agent went to work, emailing and calling Zenescope trying to get, not only my money, but many other artists he represented as well. Zenescope felt he was too aggressive and proposed that an attorney become involved in the whole ordeal and make it a legal matter. This is where I am stuck at now.

Having talked to other artists I know and a couple others I have met at cons, this occurrence with Zenescope not paying people isn't just happening to us, it is kind of across the board. This is my warning to anyone who is thinking of getting involved with Zenescope in the future. Unless you are an EBAS or J. Scott Campbell, you may have problems getting the money that you deserve for the work you did. So spread the word if you know anyone or you yourself are going to be working for them.

Hey Guys,

Well after a swift recovery from my wrist surgery (nothing serious) I figured I should get a journal up. WWC was awesome! Although I had a less than perfect spot in artist alley and the fact that the industry lost a great artist (will post my Michael Turner tribute piece soon) the con turned out pretty well. I ended up having one guy come by and pretty much pay for my entire table, which was really cool. Also, I sold every sketch that I brought and sketched during the con

A interesting story happened to me on Friday night. After consuming way too many beers downstairs in the Hyatt, Kristen and Talent Caldwell asked if we knew of anyone who had beers in there room were they could have an A-Bar. We had about 60 left in a cooler in ours so I intvited them back up there. After they arrived, there was another knock at the door and about 15-20 more people came in to drink. The thing was that most of these people were famous artists!

So besides Talent, I had Eric Basaldua, Dave Finch, Joe Benitez, Mike Choi and Ralph Tedesco, all inside my hotel room and drinking beers with me. It was pretty insane. Our neighbors were old though and not thrilled with our party so we got the cops called on us as well as the hotel manager. EBAS and I attempted to explain to them that we were just having a chill party in honor of Mike, but they weren't buying it so everyone had to leave.

Since then I have been recovering from my surgery and starting up some new projects as well. Hopefully I will get to post some stuff soon.

So on Saturday, I made a trip over to the local comic book shop to pick up some books I was missing. One of the employee's (Josh) asks me when I am in there if I gave Francis Manapul an art print. I was super confused why he would be asking me this so I told him, yeah I gave him one at Wizard World Chicago thanking him for giving me crits on my portfolio. He then asked if Francis had it up in his studio. Why would he have done that? I asked myself. So Josh called me over to the register to show me this CBR article:

[link]

In the picture right above the one's Francis took out his window of a bunch of boats you can see my print hanging up on his wall. He even calls out the print in the article under section A.

Francis has always been one of my favorite artists and since I have gotten to know him at a bunch of the cons I have come to realize he is a really nice guy too. So thanks to Francis for giving me a shout out in his studio tour.

2008 is looking to be a crazy year! First off, my lack of being able to do 3D work was starting to bug me, as well as my current job as a 3D Designer. It has been a good experience for me and will hopefully look good on a resume, but I no longer happy there. My 3D Demo Reel was put on hold once I got my new job, and has sat waiting for me to start it up again. So with that said, look for some new 3D character work coming soon.

Another exciting feature for the coming new year will be the first story arc for the story I have been working on with my friend Chris Fielder at Panel88 Productions. I have been working on this story for about 8 years now and it has come a really long way. So be on the look out for character designs and some sequential art as well.

Finally, the most exciting thing of 2008 is that I will be getting my work published!!! I was put in touch with Raven Gregory over at Zenescope Entertainment and I was given the go-ahead to pencil 2 issues of their series Grimm Fairy Tales. I won't be able to post art until the book hits the shelves but I may be able to post a couple sneek peeks.

Now its time to get out and celebrate!

Enjoy your New Years!!!

Well Wizard World Chicago is fastly approaching and I wanted to get some feedback from you guys about the con. I have been there 3 times now, but this will be my first time ever in Artist Alley. The main reason I am there is to promote the project I worked on with Panel 88 Productions called LEASH. We are going to be handing out samples of the book for publishers to take a look at. Other than that, I am not really sure what else is in store for me there. Thats why I wanted to get feedback from you guys and girls on any suggestions you have for the show or things I should bring to Artist Alley. Doing sketches? Bringing a compilation sketchbook? Prints? Let me know if you have any thoughts on this or anything else that comes to mind. Thanks a bunch and I will hopefully see you in Chicago!
