As an atheist, I can't really say I like any of the religions, but I find New Age bullshit, along with Scientology and things like Faith Healing to be particularity offensive.

The first major problem with New Age Spirituality is that it just steals and steals and steals fragments of cultures and religions, dead and alive, and knits them together to form utter bullshit. half the time the claims they make goes something like this; Someone makes some shit up, writes a book and has it published; people buy the book, and believe the shit dished out, and then 'affirm' the bullshit by claiming they seen/feel/etc the shit as well.

Take Auras for example, according to New age believers, they're something like blobs of color and light that surround people and are representative of mental states of some nonsense. But, if it really existed, why is it we don't see people talking about it appearing for them, without said person having a background in New age spirituality? Why don't we find references to it in extremely old texts? Not surprisingly, the reason we don't find anything like this is because it was invented by W. E. Butler in the last century.

The second annoying thing with the New Age shit is how they go around claiming they have 'special powers', they go on and on about how they can see the future or such, but when put to the test they always fail, all the time, in ever case; if it wasn't bullshit, these people wouldn't be in internet chat rooms claiming to have powers, they'd be out in the world helping people. Where the fuck were these people in Mumbai recently? This of course leads to the third problem; science.

One of the reasons I hate these sorts of people is that half they time they go out and misinterpret real science, especially quantum physics, and a validation of their views. Yes, Quantum physics is very strange, yes it's seems rather contradictory to what we'd normally thing of as physics, and yes, there is some strange observed phenomena, but that doesn't mean it's validating your bullshit. Here's what I mean; we know of a lot of strange stuff quantum physics--but 95% of those things are only occurring on a quantum level, I believe this is referred to a Wave function collapse. What does this mean? It means that Schrodinger's cat is a thought experiment, and nothing more, IE, if you put a real cat in a real box, with a real set of poison, etc, etc, the cat doesn't suddenly occupy all states at once.

Now, that's not to say we don't see quantum effects on a macro scale, but they only exist in very complex experiments; for example, we see a quantum effect in a superfluid, but superfluids only exist when something like hydrogen or helium (because nether element turns into a solid) is cooled to near absolute zero.

And, when New age people are confronted with the the fact that they haven't a fucking clue what they're talking about, they go and make idiotic claims that "oh, well sciences doesn't know everything," or "Science can't explain away everything," as if it's really some sort of defense.

It's sort of like this:
Them: I'm special, I can see auras, and it's because of quantum mechanics
Me: No you can't, they've done experiments showing it's a whole lot of shit, and those theories you're quoting are being taken out of context and mean nothing.
Them: Well then Science can't explain everything! I've seen it, it must be true!
Me: No one is denying that science hasn't explained everything in the Universe, or is even close to it, but you just used selected theories to support your supposedly theory, and now that I've gone out and pointed out that your supporting arguments are nonsense, you cling to your conclusion.
Them: omg, you're so close minded!!!!
Me: No, I'm not, you're the one who is close minded in this case; had you presented good arguments, based on good evidence, I'd be inclined to believe you, but you haven't, so I don't.

The problem with auras, of course, is that people with eye and brain disorders, as well as migraine headaches, do experience 'auras' or halos, and such not, of course these are serious medical problems, and you really should seek medical help if you're experiencing them, but they have nothing to do with some sort of magical fairy dust that floats around.

These are valid mental disabilities, and if you knew that you wouldn't be using them as an excuse. Not everyone has these disorders, and despite what if you really did, and weren't just bullshitting us, it's still not an excuse for behavior, not in a grown person such as yourself, and especially not on the internet, where you have to THINK before you act, rather then just involuntarily act.

Take Tourettes Symndrome for example; in public, I may feel the impulse to yell out a dirty word; fine, that maybe so, it's involuntarily and completely excusable. However, I have difficult believing that, for some bizarre reason, even if you felt the need to type a profane word on the internet, you still must open a post, type said word, and then PRESS SEND.

Allow me to be perfectly clear. A good number of people really do suffer from these disorders, and some of them really do 'act out' in public, but even as a common disorder, these people don't really exist in a very large population, and for the most part, unless a qualified psychologist says you have it, rather then you just reading the wikipedia article and saying, oh, I must have this, you most likely don't have it, or don't have it in a severe enough form for it effect you to any degree. Further more, posting a profane word, or linking to a profane youtube video, and claiming you have one (or more) of these disorders is incredibility dishonest and foolish; it takes a great number of actions to post a profane word, it's not instantaneous, and if it is an impulse and you suddenly notice you've gone and typed it, DON'T FUCKIN' SEND IT YOU CAD! PRESS THE GODDAMN BACK BUTTON!!! I should know I'VE DONE THIS SHIT MYSELF, I don't post every rant I write, and shockingly, I try to tone down what I say because I know it can be inflammatory.

has a never ending hatred of the government 'interfering with her parental rights', which is fine, but at the same time, she's also greatly opposed to abortion, and the right for a parent to choose. In this matter, the unborn fetus has more rights, or at least, rights over the rights of their mothers; yet, when they're born, children, at least of the male sort, have part of their body cut off, and are forced to live under the yoke of their parent's ideologies. Why is it that a mother can't abort a fetus she doesn't want, but a child doesn't get a chance to decide whether or not he wants to be circumscribed?

Or for that matter, why is it that children are forced into whatever religion their parents want them to be?

I find it strange, very strange, that anyone could promote the rights of something in one breath, condemn them in the next, and then scream blue murder when someone tries to interfer with their so called rights as parents.


To be honest, the most amusing thing about this whole Conservatives diatribe about rights, be it child, mother, parent, or government, is that they seem to fail to realize that 'rights' are nothing more then liberal deceit; they don't really exist, they where invented by left wing philosophers shortly before the French revolution; a highly left wing affair all around.
