Thanksgiving Break is here, so I will have more time to write, in between doing my homework and before school comes back and asks for it. School is sneaky that way.

I am also turning 17 in six days. My birthday will be on Black Friday. I think last year it was on Thanksgiving.

Oh, and I saw a really cool, really weird movie called Virtuality. Apparently it was going to turn into a TV show but they decided against it, so they aired the pilot as a TV movie and then sold it on DVD. I think it's better as a movie. It was thought provoking and strange.

This is a Relatively Longer journal than the other ones I have been writing, partly because I now have the time, partly because it's been a while since I've done a longer entry, and mostly because I'm staying up late to write it. I'm about due for another good idea. I have a feeling that this one will relate to space flight and aliens.

Someday, I hope to do something that will spur a Constitutional Amendment. Or at least a ruling in the Supreme Court. Having a court case would be nice, especially if I won.

And in other news, I have to rebel against something for English. Yay! My teacher assigned this big ass project and it's due in two weeks, which sucks because that's not enough time, but he doesn't care. And if I'm typing with bad grammar right now that's only because I spent about three hours typing REALLY REALLY WELL on my werewolf story. (Technically it should be werwulf because that's cooler and Slavic looking, which is kinda where the myth came from, but it also looks weird).

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, “Common Sense,” who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:



- knowing when to come in out of the rain;

- the early bird gets the worm;

- life isn’t always fair; and

- maybe it was my fault.



Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).


His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.


Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.


It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.


Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.


Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.


Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, “Truth” and “Trust,” by his wife, “Discretion,” by his daughter, “Responsibility,” and by his son, “Reason.”


He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers – “I Know My Rights,” “I Want It Now,” “Someone Else Is To Blame,” and “I’m A Victim.”


Not many attended his funeral, because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

IN OTHER NEWS!!!!! There was an earthquake when I was doing my AP Bio homework and it was fun (the Earthquake, not the homework). It was a pleasant surprise. But of course, this is California and sometimes you just have to expect that sort of thing. AND!!! It rained a LOT today! First storm since the summer passed. Which, when you combine that with the Earthquake that just happened, makes today a Damn Special Day.

However, I do not like stamps that imply you have a prejudice of some sort, because this is basically a device that allows the stamp owner to passively insult you. Recently I saw an animated stamp that said something along the lines of "Hi, I'm German and I'm not a Nazi, sorry for ruining your prejudice." See, the thing is, I am also German (like 1/4 or some other small bit). And seeing that stamp made me feel sad and angry, because not only did it imply that I had a prejudice against other Germans (which would be ridiculous), it implied that many other people did as well, and worse, that maybe it is only a MINORITY of Germans that are not Nazis, and that most of the time that sort of prejudice is okay to have. I saw 9 a few days ago. It was pretty good, especially if you like the dark and macabre and Tim Burton in general. Totally worth a watch. And I thought the ragdoll with the bird skull (#7) was a particularly nice touch.

Remember the whole "secret CIA assassination program" that was in the news a few weeks ago? Apparently, the CIA had subcontracted that job to Blackwater. Let me get this straight: the CIA is designed to protect us. And yet... they're slowly shifting their power and authority onto mercenaries, private armies with no accountability and no orders other than to eliminate 'enemies of the state.' Eventually, the CIA will consist solely of bureaucrats, while "security contractors" like Blackwater and Haliburton hold the majority of the power. And slowly, ever so slowly, the contractors will take control of the CIA. You can guess what will happen next. And THAT, my friends, is why I'm going to buy a bunker.

Anyways, the majority of this journal is going to be devoted to me explaining why I don't think my story works, and speculating about how I should fix it. If you don't want to hear about that, then you can just skip right down to the "Listening to/Reading/Watching" section, where I PROMISE I'll have updated it with funny things.

Anyway, my story does not know what it wants to be, and that is why it is not working. It is confused between romance and psychological thriller, between the themes of 'looming enemy' and 'inner conflict.' Not that the two can't coexist. But it has reached its tendrils out in too many directions, and the result, in my mind, at least, is mess.

Plus, some of the scenes feel like they're made of suck. I don't edit before I upload, and when I reread them I can tell.

So, what does that mean for you, my ever-faithful watchers? It means several things. It means I might start my story over, or I might keep writing it as is. But I know for sure that if it is ever published (and that is an if), the final version will look much different than the version on DA.

Anyway, imma (<-- ha! no typos Kaz) tell you my idea now.

So, here's how it all goes down. We know that DA has an ABUNDANCE of authors, most of whom are very little-known and only some of whom are any good. These people (me included) are usually desperate for exposure, and tend to band together in semi-pathetic clubs, which hand out literature submissions that nobody bothers to read. All in all, it's not that great a system if an author wants to get more press.

We also know that DA has poured vast sums of money into letting VISUAL artists get exposed; we can prove this by taking a stroll down a few of the 'most popular in X time period' pages and counting up how many are submitted by Hibbary or PearlEden. It's usually double digits by page three. (Oh yeah, and they let you make portfolios and sell prints too).

Apparently, whenever you sell a print, DA takes a cut of it. I've never sold a print, but considering that they give their main product away for free, they must be getting additional income somehow. But my question is; why should DA limit itself to selling just prints? They could be making TONS more money letting all their second-rate novelists (excuse me: aspiring authors) like me publish some literature. Allow me to explain.

Suppose DA decides to buy a few printing presses. Now suppose they set up a system in which you can publish a novel, or a book of poems, as long as you buy in bulk and get enough pre-orders. Say I have 1000 followers (yes, I can see you, you stalkers) and 500 of them are rabid fangirls who are just OBSESSED with Justin the Werewolf. They each offer to pay $7.00 for a copy of my EPIC SAUCE werewolf story (well, you all know what it's called by now). That's a cool $3500 right there. But DA thinks that it can sell at least 2000 copies of my book; and after all, it's better to overshoot. It runs off 2000 copies at $2.00 each; that's $4000 printing costs total, $3500 of which is absorbed from the pre-orders. I chip in $1000 to make sure it's profitable for them. Now how does this help the author? Consider it an investment. Plus, DA could run some ads about the newest or most popular stories for sale in their literature section, then let people rate each one. That's some pretty good publicity, and some people would consider it worth the down payment. If the story takes off, I never have to pay another cent; DA prints at $2.00/copy, collects $7.00 per book, and we split the $5.00 profit equally. If the story is good, I could run a decent profit in a month. Plus, the upfront cost will deter the lameos who just want to see their crap pornos (sorry--erotica) in a pretty cover.

Anyway, tell me what you think. I fully expect the DA moderators to rip this idea off, leading to a costly court battle that will leave me in rags and enrich the DA bourgeoisie, keeping this site in the black for at least another few years. If not, I'll maybe refine it a bit and shop it around to venture capitalists when I finally go to college.

Ummm... ima skip the obvious stuff like writing and drawing because you already know all that.

1) I have had the same piano teacher for almost 9 years now
2) I enjoy walking around in circles and listening to music while drawing or painting; when I have art block I pace even more, and occasionally play the air guitar.

4) I have been to the Grand Canyon, but unfortunately did not have the opportunity to urinate over the side.
5) I have a Tic-Tac box full of Chinese New Year poppers that I plan on throwing all at once (while still in the case), possibly at someone I don't like.
6) I carry a pocketknife to work, to open boxes with. When I'm bored, I often times fantasize about performing grandiose feats of heroism with it, feats that often times involve bringing criminals to justice and saving the lives small children (at the same time).
7) I don't want to go to space, but if there was ever a 'colonize Mars now!' campaign I would be one of the first so sign up.
8) When I turn 18, I'm going to carry a lighter around. Not because I smoke, but because I enjoy playing with lighters between the lighter and the pocketknife, I will be unstoppable!!!!
9) I like carnivorous plants (they remind me of the chomping plants from the Mario games) but they're too hard to care for.

I've never done anything like this before, which is funny considering I'm already... 30,000 words in. Wow.

1) How old are you?
J: 17, turning 18 in late December. I like the cold.
M: 13, turning 14 in August.

2) Size?
J: Six feet even, about 160 lbs. Not overly muscular though. You wouldn’t think me strong by looking.
M: 5’5” and already 130 lbs. I’m kind of fat.

3) Wrong habits?
J: Usually pretty mellow, but I get flashes of anger after recently becoming a werewolf. This makes me feel uncomfortable when talking to other people, because when I do get mad at them my first instinct is to bite their face.
M: I play games… a LOT. I live in a fantasy world and am constantly suspicious of conspiracies and otherworldly creatures invading us.

Yes to both.

J: Not married but I have Alaya.

J: Classic rock is good. As is smooth jazz. Jazz is soothing.

J: Beach. There are less people and I get jumpy in crowds.

Now for the good stuff: My dad finally got an HDTV! The only problem is that we don't have an HDMI cable, and we're not currently subscribing to a service that gives us a lot of HD programming. So the majority of what we see is relatively low-resolution for the capabilities of the new hardware.

And finally, I will stick up for Honduras. I will say that Zelaya was an idiot who deserved to be thrown out of power, and that because both the Honduran congress and the supreme court ordered him out, the military was completely justified in throwing him out. In fact, if I remember correctly it was the Honduran supreme court who gave the military that order, after Zelaya refused to abdicate when their congress impeached him. Because basically all of my friends seemed to be relatively uninformed about this issue, I felt the need to say it.

It is now 10:57 PST, and I have wasted enough of everyone's time. I will proceed to bed and not bother you until I have another epiphany, or simply feel the need to shoot my mouth off as the hour approaches midnight. Good night.

Okay, this is the point of no return. If you've read this far, you have to keep going because I say so.




As you may or may not know, I write from two perspectives. And I alternate in a (so far) predictable pattern; from Justin to Marcus to Justin to Marcus, etc. The thing is, I've come to a point where I could go either way. I'm currently writing from Marcus's perspective, and I had intended to continue writing it like that. But I've come to a natural-sounding break. So my question is this:

Should I...

A) write a scene where Marcus confronts his older brother at 5:00 in the morning, and delay uploading what I've written so far? OR, should...

B) I upload what I've written, write a new scene that's basically Justin running around being a werewolf, and THEN write the 5:00AM confrontation scene?

And one more question: Would you rather see the 5:00AM confrontation from Justin (the werewolf's) point of view? Or from Marcus (the paranoid younger brother's) point of view? I'm leaning toward Marcus but I'm curious to know what you think.

Basically, school's out so that's "YAY FOR JOY AND FREEDOM!!!" But I have summer homework because I'm taking four AP classes next year, so that's like "DOWN WITH THE OPPRESSIVE REGIME OF DEATH AND DESPAIR!!!" Hence the journal title.

Just thought I'd say that. I'm going to my friend's house to play some Axis and Allies later on, which is like Risk only cooler and set in WWII times. Then I'm going to my brother's graduation; he was a senior last year so he's going off to college. It'll be weird at home without him.

Google's been stagnant for years; they've refused to evolve. It's time for something new. If any of you want, give me your email address and I'll send you a basic outline of my idea. It combines several of my previous ideas (no, not the aerial plants and no, not the laser gun or the lightsaber) into one gargantuan beast of capitalistic epicness. The only problem is it would take a lot of venture capital and the agreement of major internet companies. But if it all falls through... POOF. Bye-bye boring old Google. Donner Lake. This one mountain looks like a dragon. Seriously.

I think so. Only on local station though. They were broadcasting a football game and I was in the stands.

Ketchup. My salads consist of the lettuce and tomatoes on my burgers

Astronaut I think. Then in second grade I switched to geneticist and never looked back.

SICS, or the Standard Internet Comprehensibility Scale, is an efficient, logarithmic scale that can determine and label the 'readability,' shall we say, of any given Internet forum post. It begins at 1, the worst possible score, with each progressive number describing a leap in the post's comprehensibility by a power of ten. After reading and labeling at least ten random Internet posts of any given user, it is possible to give him an 'Average Comprehensibility Tag,' or ACT. The ACT is simply the average of a person's post's ICNs, or Internet Comprehensibility Numbers. This may get confusing, so I'll give you an example. Below are the ICNs 1 through 10, with (as I said before) 10 being the best and 1 being the worst:

10) Hey guys, let's all go to the party tonight! --As you can see, this post uses proper grammar, punctuation and spelling. It is also short and easy to read. Be warned, the next posts will only get worse.

9) Hey guys let's all go to the party tonight! --Still readable, though a comma has been omitted.

8) hey guys let's all go to the party tonight! --The 'H' is no longer capitalized. It loses comprehensibility, though not by much.

7) hey guys let's all go to the party tonight --I can no longer tell where the sentence begins or ends. This is beginning to resemble the majority of Internet forum posts.

6) hey guys lets all go to the party tonight --The writer has now omitted the apostrophe in the interest of saving time. He will soon begin to abbreviate...

5) hey guys lets all go to the prty tonight --Ouch. An improvised abbreviation of the word 'arty.' Ask yourself, Are you really saving time by removing that 'a'?

4) hey guys lets all go to the prty 2nite --Now he's using letters. As you can see, descenting below a six on the SICS is a sure sign that you're losing comprehensibility.

3) hey guys lets all g2 the prty 2nite --By combining the words 'go' and 'to,' I can no longer tell whether he intends to say 'go to,' 'got to' or 'get to.' All are commonly used on the Internet. This sentence suffers from severe comprehensibility issues.

2) hey guys lets all g2 da prty 2nite --'Da' is not a word.

1) hey guys all g2 da prty 2nite -- By removing the "lets," I am no longer positive whether this post is phrased as a question, suggestion, or command. It has lost any and all semblances of comprehensibility it once had.

Unfortunately, most internet posts rate as a six and under in the SICS. By assigning posts with ICs and users with ACTs, we can warn others of low-comprehensibility users while at the same time raising ourselves above the Internet standard. I now ask you of one boon: to add a link in your DeviantArt signature to this journal, adjacent to this question: "What's your ACT on the SICS? Click to find out."

And that, my friends, is possibly my greatest contribution to the Internet of all time.

Update first. Let's see if I can remember what it was about... oh yeah.
1) It might say somewhere in my many pages of writing that Justin is going to work for a camping goods store. That is wrong, because I had a better idea. He's going to work as a low-salaried intern for the biotech company his dad works at. It might also be worthwhile noting that the firm employs the majority of the people in his town and has his dad working under a policy of silence, meaning that he can't talk about what he's working on. It's more interesting and offers more possibilities (among them some government/military contractor conspiracies) should I chose to develop them. Actually there will probably be no conspiracies. But you never know.
2) It also might say that Marcus is reading something called Soul Eater. This is also untrue because Soul Eater is a real manga (which I found out to my great dismay) and might cause copyright issues. The new name for the fictitious comic is Master of Cranes. And if any of you finds a REAL manga called Master of Cranes, let me know so I can sue the shit out of the bitch who's writing it
3) The story isn't going to end in the same summer it began in. It's too long. It will probably take the course of an entire school year and end the next summer.
4) The name of the town Justin lives in is called Soetam. Besides sounding like a good folksy name, it's practically an anagram of the title of the book; I just added a T in the middle of it. Plus it's phonetically similar to the town of Sodom, which was destroyed in the Old Testament by the wrath of the Lord. This, also, opens up more possibilities.

1) I often times talk aloud to myself when I'm thinking, especially when I brainstorm.
2) I like the season between Summer and Winter. It brings cool wind, and the wind brings change, a vivid contrast between the scorching heat of the weeks previously; it awakens the long-buried instincts that humans deny they still retain. Plus it feels good having cold wind blow in my window.
3) I just ran a 1600 and a 3200 in a track meet today and I'm telling you it's a bitch. Three miles in the space of an hour. Plus I had to wait practically the whole meet to run the 3200.
4) I once had an idea for a sci-fi story where the earth becomes a strategic point in a battle between two alien races. It sucked. I never finished beyond chapter 2.
5) I glued a penny to my wall because I didn't know what to do with it.
6) If my werewolf story was going to be a movie, I'd have songs by Hammerfall, Counting Crows and REM. They're epic bands and I think the song 'Last Man Standing' by Hammerfall totally fits Justin's wolf persona.
7) I own a turtle named Squirtle. Seriously.
8) At Disneyland I bought a Mickey Mouse doll wearing a brown robe and holding a blue lightsaber. I call him Mickey Win-Du.

Somalian pirates have taken 14 ships and 260 crew members hostage sine January. JANUARY!!! They've only had four months! But they take one American ship and BAMF, they've got 6 destroyers coming down their throats. It's about time the cavalry showed up. Seriously, you can't just run a pirate operation without having contacts with other terrorists/anarchists/supervillains/etc. I say if the USA (it rhymes ) wants to fight terrorism, it should start by clearing out the high seas. Let's drop a few shells on Somalia's ports and see how many ships their pirates hijack then.

Anyway, the reason I haven't been on DA in a while is because I got uber-addicted to this epic sauce browser game, Tribal Wars. [link] It's sort of amazing.
