So once again I have returned to the University of Manitoba in hopes of one day becoming an architect. Studio officially starts tomorrow afternoon so I figured I should get one more update in before I go into hermit mode.

The summer has gone really well and I was able to get out a few times a week to shoot which makes me pretty happy. I have been lucky enough to have spent just over two weeks in the past month travelling so I thought I would throw up some shots of my travels... and for once I do not think there will be a car shot in the bunch!

See you at Christmas!
-Chris

... Well for me at least...

So here we are again, summer is almost over and I have been away from dA almost the entire time. I still do stop in here and there but for the most part I have been trying to get out every day to take pictures. As it turns out I have most of my success on the weekends shooting car/bike related events, but that is no surprise.

Now go on and take a look at what I have been shooting all summer!

Heck Yes!
I have been technically classifying myself as a professional photographer for some time now thanks to my work with motorsports and the few industry people that found my work worthwhile enough to purchase. My exposure in "the real world", outside of drifting and motorcycle racing has been very limited but then today I got a pleasant surprise; I did some photojournalism work over the weekend and submitted my photos to the Winnipeg Sun, today I picked up a copy of the newspaper and there is my photo gracing the front cover! Not thinking any of my shots were cover worthy I just sent them to the paper hoping to get my work in there somewhere so i never even bothered to ask to be paid for my work but even still, this is going to be a great addition to my portfolio.

Oh and I am getting close to 2 000 page views, thanks to everyone for checking my work out!

So summer is over yet again and i got nothing done. Since my last post i have been working pretty much nonstop in so i can afford my current living situation: residence. I write this from my dorm room at the University of Manitoba. As of 7 days ago I am studying Environmental Design here, in hopes of having my M.Arch.

All is well and i get to spend most of my days "finding unique solutions to design problems" or whatever. Lotsof drawing and Photo taking so i hope to upload some examples of my work as the year goes on.

Peace!

Still don't have too much time as I am trying to get the bikes up and running, but I will hopfully be out taking more pictures in the next week or so. Untill then I am going to play around with all my old photos and see what I can come up with.

Is anyone else getting sick of the seemingly endless amounts of "deviations" that are basically stick-figure drawings or pictures from cell phones or the ever popular self portrait of some <18 year old girl holding the camera herself and doing the "look up and away"??? A favorite hobby of mine is to go to the browse button and sit there for 15 min or so and fav or comment on any of the newest deviations I find interesting. From this I have noticed that deviant art is looking more and more like any number of typical social networking sites and more and more works worthy of a scraps section are being classified as deviations.

This perpetually chaps my ass! While deviantart is undoubtedly a networking site, I was under the impression it was designed to get away from all those other sites and allow safe-haven for the artistic community. No? Maybe I am being selfish but screw it I don't care.

Now before the 1 of the 5 people that read this gets all pissy and decides to give me a earful (eyeful since I am reading it?) about criticizing peoples deviations let me clarify: I am not trying to be snobby or look down on other people. Look at my gallery, compared to 99% of the photographers here I suck and I know it. I am not trying to bitch about people’s skills or ability or anything of the sort, if anything I am bitching about people’s effort.

Every single photo I put up, whether it worked the way I wanted it to or not, I tried. Time and effort are spent on everything on my dA account and the same goes to all of my friends who post on this site -if it didn't it doesn’t get posted. Everyone starts somewhere and people improve at different rates so by all means if it means something to you and you tried your best, giver shit and put it up but this is not the place for that 30 second rendition of Bart Simpson you did during 3rd period history in the margins of your notebook.

*This rant was brought to you in part by Grant Macewan College and Stress. Final Exams are a wonderful, wonderful time.

Not that its going to change anything drastically, its just nice to know that someone, somewhere, pays attention to me... or did at least once. My photography has been suffering recently thanks to the snow, school, and the process of creating a portfolio and applying for jobs. Hopefully by the time classes are done I will have my shit together and I will be able to take more photos.

As such, if you are checking my account out for the first time WAIT! check back in a week or so, and if you see what I am up to on a regular basis than please continue.
Thanks!
