And that was a goddamned nice vacation. Every afternoon, shopping in town, and every evening, poker gaming (I served as dealer; no gaming for me). In addition, we drove gokarts, went bathing, and stuff.

...Sweden is cheap. Bloody cheap. I'm talking £0.8 for 1hg of loose weight assorted goodies. £1.5 for 1l of 0.7% apple cider. (Yes, we managed to buy several bottles of that despite being three years too young. We just went in, fetched them, paid, and went out. No questions asked, no ID required).

Now to finish off that poem I've been writing.. It's nothing big, but it's a poem afterall. And if I don't finish it off, it'll haunt me till no end, 'cause I just need to get that written. If I don't do today, I'll have to do some other time, one day.

My current 100 Themes Challenge progress.

There are few things that feel as good as sitting in a plane while landing in your own hometown after having been off to other places for a long time. Yes, ten days, that's a long time. 'Specially when it's ten days with almost no Internet access, no real computer access, and endless walking around in the cities you visit.

First off, we flew to Amsterdam. Beautiful city with a really special atmosphere. Vast masses of bikes, and canals everywhere. 'Tis the nicest city I ever visited, that's for sure.

After staying in Amsterdam for four nights, we took the train to Brussels. Walked some in the town, and went on to Paris after two nights staying.

Now, Paris for sure has a compherensive public metro system. 'Tis enormous, and so are the masses that utilise it. The city itself is a lil' bit noisy and crowded tho'. And when I say we've walked around in the cities, I really mean we've walked a lot. We even walked from Louvre (after photographing it, of course) through the whole Champs-Elysse and up to the Triumph Arc.

With a total photo mass of around 8-9 GBs, it'll be some time until I upload the first HDRs and stuff. But at least I shot some good HDRs, I think. We'll see. Whenever that time comes.

Further destinations: Brüssel and Paris.

Yep, 'tis time for some touring 'round. Nothing big. We're visiting my aunt and uncle who live in Amsterdam, and then we'll take the train to Brüssel, before we end up in Paris (from where we will fly back home again).

I'm bringing my total of 10-250mms of lenses, my beloved 450D, UV and grad. grey filter, 9.5GB of SD cards, and may the birds know what else I bring. I think it's gonna be enough for 10 days with photography and without computer/Internet access.

In the computer department, I just tried out Picasa, and have gone through and tagged most of my private photo collection. 'Tis nice, and I think I'll try it out some more (import, for example) when I get back. The worst thing I had to go through was probably tagging my whole WolfPaper (www.wolfpaper.pl) collection -- that's approx 130 wolf photos!

I've got a Wacom Bamboo A6 tablet (but that's a long time ago). I've been one week in Utopia -- that was the name of the Norwegian national scout jamboree of this year. One week living in a lavoo, meeting people and doing lots of stuff. 'Twas fun. When I've finally set this shit up again, I'll make sure to use a virtual environment to do such things next time. If I can even remember to do that.

In other words, it rains here. I'll try getting this darned file system cleanup done soon and get into installing the beta2 so that I can get configuring again.
Fine. I'll just finish this tag stuff first. I never did them before, and won't do unless I'm unbelievable bored or I'm tagged. I got tagged. Shoot.
----

RULES -

|1|.Post these rules
|2|.Each tagged person must post 8 things about theirselves on their journal.
|3|.At the end you have to choose 8 people to tag, and post their icons on the same journal.
|4|.Go to their page and send a message saying you tagged them.
|5|.NO tag-backs.

1) I got top grades in all classes except for P.E. and Written Norwegian, this Christmas.
2) I listen to anything ranging from AC/DC via Guns N' Roses to Pink Floyd.
3) I'm a moderator of the WolfQuest forums
4) My camera equipment is currently worth a total of about 1700-2000 USD, not counting my Canon EOS camera backpack.
5) I photograph whatever I can find, and if I'm bored, whatever I don't even need to find.

Yus. Five nonsense things about me.

I tag , and whomever might want to do this stuff. Yeah, I'm evil.

----
Now onto my own ramblings.

First thing I want to say, is that we've got sun again! Yus, the sun finally has jumped above those mountains to the south, and thus, I may finally get the light I need to photograph. It's been way too dark for that. Sadly, the weather has also been too blah, so I've not gotten the opportunity to look for any Aurora Borealis, like I wanted to.

Second, I'm trying to learn Esperanto by myself. Found a few websites with some courses, including the Lernu! project, which actually does help, though it may seem a bit cheesy. Now, I know there are lots more reasons for me not to learn this language, rather than actually doing it, but since I love languages, I wanted to give it a try. While I would rather learn Latin or something, I don't think it would be possible for me to learn such a complicated language at home when I'm bored. Thus, I went with the easiest one that still had somewhat of a meaning -- Esperanto. I like what I see.

Now I just have to actually do about one course a day, so that I don't lose it all. I aim to learn at least 4 languages fluently.
and some olds.

First thing first, I got a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5,6 IS for Christmas, from my parents! Man, was I surprised. I was prepared for paying it myself. Also, I got one gradient gray filter, and one UV-0 filter, fitting both my 18-55 and my 55-250 lenses. And last, but not least, I got a nice backpack specially made for stuffing camera equipment into. It even says "Canon EOS Digital" on it! 8D

In computer news, I got 2 GB more of RAM (I now have 3 GB total), and a new power supply. I should no longer have problems with Firefox, Opera and Gimp eating up all my memory, considering I also have 2 GB of swap space. And as a direct result of my computer crashing (note to self: do not mess with Linux system files), I have installed the pre-beta build23 of Wolvix GNU/Linux, which runs surprisingly great. With that, I mean my computer is stable, is using transparent windows (X11v7 + Xfwm4 ftw!), and is capable of editing and processing my photos. And to play WoW.

In more recent news, I bought the Chinese Democracy album by Guns N' Roses. I like it. And yes, I'm ignoring the "Parental Advisory" sticker on the front of the cover. Duh, I listen to what I want to listen to.

That's all I can think of currently. Also I may be uploading more old stuff and not so old stuff in the more close-ish future. G'nite.

W00t, I got 2.000 hits! Thanks, all! Once again, I'll just skip the babling about thanks for support, views, comments and favs, since it is all obivious.

Too bad I don't have any idea of a celebration pic. I don't think I know of any books with 2.000 pages, nor do I know of any houses with that number. And no cars with those numbers in the license plates. And it doesn't match any serial numbers I've got. But maybe I'll come up with something. We'll see.

In other news, I love the 450D. Too bad I probably won't buy any new lenses before Christmas or around there. If no new lenses are out then, I'll probably go for the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS or the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro APO Canon for tele, and later the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Canon for wide-angle. I'd like to be able to buy the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM tele, but sadly it's way too expensive. And by buying one of the other two tele objectives, I'll have more money to spend on the wide-angle objective, and later filters <.<

...And to spend on a new SD memory card. With like 4-8 GB data space. I definitely need something more than 1,5 GB if I'm to shoot more RAW photos -.-

Edit:

I have now bought my first lens! It is the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5,6 DC EX HSM wide-angle. Now THAT'S wide-angle! ^.^ But man, is this stuff expensive. 540 US$ for the lens and a tiny bag to keep it in. Which I probably won't use anyways. And then there is the lens hood. Looks good, is darn big, since the lens has a 77mm filter ring <.<

I have to test this lens in the wild outdoors as soon as the weather gets better. And when my homework is done..

Yay! I have finally bought a Canon EOS 450D with the 18-55mm IS kit lens! Now that's some difference from my simple compact camera! o.o

Now I'm gonna update the camera's firmware, and upload my very first photos to my computer. Maybe one or two even find their way onto dA..

Me and my dad found out, that his old and non-digital flash actually works with the 450D, but only partial; the camera won't manage to take into account the mass of light the flash lets out, so it'll still use longer exposures. Though with the manual control I bet I can fix that.

I have already tested both manual focus, auto-focus and live view with and without auto-focus -- it all seems very decent. Though I still havent checked my photos on the computer screen, so I still don't know if I'll adjust the sharpening of the images a little higher.

Off to school now -- and then I guess more photographing when I'm done with my homework

Ooof. More or less of you guys reading this may know that I have wanted a Canon EOS 450D for quite a while now. And buying one is now closer than ever, and than expected.

But then I just had to get to know about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18. It is not a D-SLR, with the pros and cons that gives.

Pros: Lighter, smaller, no extra lenses needed, cheaper.
Cons: No possibility for extending the lens or optics, lower resolution, (expected) lower performance/quality, not that "pro", no external blitz.

As for the 450D..

Pros: (expected) better quality, lenses, greater resolution, "professional", external blitz.
Cons: Heavy, expensive, extra lenses needed (they're expensive, too), larger loads to carry about.

That's pretty much what I can find. Except for the camera specific things, like the FZ18's amazing 18x optical zoom (possible to get 24x at 5Mpx! ) and Canon's fame for having high-quality cameras and so on.. Really, my logic seems to tell me I should buy the FZ18, but I want the 450D >.<;

I'd appreciate it if anyone could do some recommendations for me or give me some tips -- especially if anyone should happen to know the DMC-FZ18..

EDIT: Ok, so I have found that there are several impressive cameras below the D-SLR class. It bugs the heck out of me how their specifications seem so good, and still they're way cheaper than the 450D, even if I don't count the über-amount of money I'll have to trash to get a lens equal to what those monsters have. 20x zoom on a non-D-SLR? No problem. The 450D has 3x zoom on the standard 18-55 lens in the kit -.- JPG, RAW, JPG+RAW? Of course. Wide-angle and super-macro? Not even worth checking. And still.. the D-SLR gives room for growing, it's a camera that is kept for years.. >.<;

Ok, so here I am. Once again. Sorry for the delay -- I got home when I supposed I would, but then we went for a trip again for 6 hours. <.<

So, I've submitted something. A vexel. -.- Photos will come, but I have about as many as I had last time, and now school will start next week.

The scout camp was definitively not disappointing. We were 245 scouts, not counting adults/leaders (I think), and we had lotsa fun. In Norway we have to scouting organizations: NSF (Norwegian Scouting Organization) and KFUK-KFUM (Christian scouting organization). These two organizations have seldom been any happy with each other, and some hissing has ocurred now and then. Just so that you know, I'm in NSF. However, this camp marked, to me, the start of a little closer cooperation between the two. Because it was KM (short for KFUK-KFUM) who held the camp, and still half of the members was from NSF. They invited us and accepted us in the camp like friends. And remember the Norwegian Championship I was in earlier? Next year I believe NSF will allow KM to be in there as well. That's something big.

Sad thing is, there's some bad beliefs going around. One thing is that many KM members don't think we're Christian enough, partly because we accept any religion, and we've changed a part of our Scout's Promise to "I promise to be open for God" instead of theirs "I promise to serve God". Having done that, we're no longer bound to be Christians -- only to respect the Christian belief and be open for it. You guys know I worship freedom in thoughts and speech, and hence I think our Promise is indeed a better solution. Of course KM ain't the only ones making problems and fuss -- NSF have some weird thoughts on KM as well. It's both ways indeed.

</rant>

I will try sorting out some photos and put up a few, but I'm still not finished with the ones from the previous week. So expect no rush. I've got like 90 deviations to look at, and about 10-20 journals. And besides, I do have other things to do as well. I'll just have to make good use of my friend and enemy, the time.

If anyone got a message about a now non-existant journal from me, it was just me hitting the wrong button >.<;

Nevertheless, I am glad people seem to like some of my photographs

So I will do a kind of 1000 hits-piece, even though coming up with something wasn't easy, me sticking to my camera rather than to pencil and paper (or PotatoShop). But it will come, eventually.

I also have taken a vast amount of photos recently, and I will work on them to get something else to put up here. New HDRs, panoramas and probably some normal shots as well. Same goes for poems; I'll write some over from my notebook to my computer. Right now, I am working on what I hope will be a new ID. Then I'll start with the HDRs.

It has been silent from me for more than a week now, and I'd like to appologize for misjudging the time I'd be gone. However, we visited my dead (2003 and 2005, if I am not mistaken) grand-parents' farm, which is now being partially restored. I think I got some nice photos of the old buildings there. Also a panorama. And we visited my aunt's hut as well. That made for some more HDRs and another pano. So it's been a great time, really.

Yeah. That's mostly it. Now to work on with the ID and all the other stuff. Finishing tomorrow is ok, today is good, but yesterday would be the best -sigh-

EDIT: Anyone remember my little rant about the wrongly placed EXIF data on so many of my photos? It's not my fault. It's dA's fault. Or maybe my browser's fault.

Because I just found that one shot of mine (Mountains of darkness) doesn't have EXIF data included in the .jpg file. However, dA has added the EXIF data that has shown up so many places. >.<;; I believe this can be the same way as my problems with changing an avatar (it always reverted to the old one; seemed as if dA only read the extention of the file). So it's not really much for me to do with it, except for telling you guys to ignore the EXIF on my HDRs. My HDRs don't have EXIF data.

Aggh. I just found out why so many of my photos are shown as shot in February >.< I made a layered .XCF (Gimp's format) file with the frame and the black background and all that. The problem is that the EXIF data from my first framed shot made with that one got stuck to the frame file, and so the same EXIF has followed every of my shots made with that .XCF file -epicfail-

So now I've got another project for myself. I will frame all the wrongly EXIF'ed shots again, and reupload them (as minor changes, so you won't be spammed with devs). That'll take time.
Ok, so I know I'm late with this. But I simply didn't have the time to post it before.

To start with the first first, I will just let it be known that our troop is named Ravn (Eng: Raven), and since our leader is such a nice guy and sometimes go (went?) bird hunting, we actually have two wings as "mascots". So these wings then went with us down to the capital this weekend, and got used on a sign for our troop. I think we scored some points on that. (The girls didn't like the smell at all, but I didn't really mind it.)

Next, when we finally got down there, we found that our area was just next to that of a group from Bergen (look it up or not, but read on). Our groups quickly spoke friendly, and we wished each other good luck and so on. At some point, we were at #64, while they at some (other?) point were at #7. Says something, no? But guess what? When the whole arrangement was over, and I got around checking the list, both Ørn (Eagle) from Bergen, and we (Ravn) had the same place. We both ended up as #47. Isn't the world tiny? Oh, and by the way; next time, this thing will be located in Bergen. Sounds familiar? xD

But yeah. We got #47, and are kinda pleased. I mean, we're the 47th best troop in Norway, right? But next time, I think we will head for the 40 best. Maybe. We hope to learn of our faults. And to see Ørn again next year.

------

School is out in exactly 2 1/2 days (11:30 this Friday)! I hope we will place among the 50 best (there are like 90 participating troops, I think). Our leader (adult) says he thinks we'll make it to top 30 <.<

Lol at journal title.

But yes, I got my camera today. And man, don't you think the spots on the inner lens were gone? I don't know how they did it, or what it was, but it's repaired, and free, so I don't really care So now I can finally go on photographing. But I don't really think this page will notice any kind of boost.. Who knows?

And I'm now sitting here, 21:46, making a Powerpoint presentation for a group of 3 persons (me included), and which is to be shown and presentated at school tomorrow. And I have as well made 1 and 1/2 page in Word about the same topic -- Guns N' Roses! Of course, none of the others have really done anything.. I feel loved -.-'

If you read all this, you're probably dang bored, so I'll let you go now. Shoo!

Ok, so I'm going to make something for the Drawing Day '08 - June 7th. But I don't expect it to be something big. If I really don't get anything done, I'll just make a doodle of something; it's still a drawing, right?

I wonder how many else are going to participate.. Any of you guys who read my journal, who will?

Oh yeah, today I'm gonna have another exam. It's Norwegian oral, 10 minutes. Topic is the age of the Norse and sagas and Snorre Sturlason and all that, and, you know, the short writings normal readers send in to the newspapers. Those things. I don't know what they're called in English. But anyways, I'm gonna read, and read, and read, because I'll be sitting in front of my teacher in an hour. o.o;

And so, the 17th of May has come. I guess this day has no special meaning to most of you people out there, but to me and all other Norwegians all over the world, this is a day of joy and freedom. Because on the 17th of May 1814, the Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll. This meant that Norway was from now an own country and nation. Yay us! ^^

So ya, that's what's up today. I woke up 06:30, and went to the scouts' parade which began 07:30. You'd say it's been a busy day, yet very relaxing. And if you ever wondered, of course it's a national holiday, and almost no one is at work, nor school.

Happy May 17th, everyone!

Damnit. My camera was sent in to research; it's gotten some weird spots on the inner lens. So no new photos, although I have no problems with uploading older ones. Too bad I can't take any new photos though.

On a happier note, we got Mario Kart Wii today. I bet my brother's gonna clear it in a few days at the most. Anyone else got this awesome game?
