Thomas Edison once said Genius is one per cent inspiration, ninety-nine per cent perspiration.

Taking that to heart AtomicArt will be the genius of the atomic community, rising up out of the ashes of its slow death to become the creative centre of a vast group of intellectuals. The perspiration is the key, I know you all have inspiration, but for the beast to live we must work for it.

Two years of inactivity is inexcusable, and I apologise, as an apology I will try to get this community up and running again.

I would like to start off where we left off, The Holiday Season, with a new challenge.

I would also like to propose a new competition

The Holiday Spirit

The challenge is for you to make a deviation that sums up what you believe the Holiday Spirit is.

There is no restriction on what media you use to convey the Idea, be it a painting, photomanip or prose.

The challenge is not a comp but an exercise to get the creative juices flowing and to practice to get them skills a growing.

Challenge will end 3 January 2007

Heres how it will work:

1: Nomination - AtomicArt members can nominate pieces from other AtomicArt members galleries by sending AtomicArt a message with a link to the image.

2: Voting - At the end of each month AtomicArt admin will post a list of nominated pieces and like the comps members can vote for thier fav by sending a message with thier vote to AtomicArt.

3: Hosting - When all the votes are in we will tally them and AtomicMPC will host the most liked "Image of the month" on photonic for all atomicans to see.

NEW COMPETITION yes thats right just in time for Christmas and New Years

Lets do something a little different this time, 2 comps in 1:

Wallpapers for the holiday season:
1: An Atomic Christmas
2: Atomic New Years

Create a wallpaper for both or either of the two fore mentioned themes with a distinct atomic theme. Create a couple if you wish, more choices for those festive atomicans the better

2 Winners, 1 for each theme Also we will bundle all of the wallpapers into packs and pimp them on Atomic for all the other atomicans to use and love.

CURRENT COMPETITION

Symbolic Antonyms - Create a piece based on common antonyms

Antonym examples:
Light - Dark, Good - Evil, Love - Hate etc.

This competition can be done using any DeviantArt accepted media format.

Due date: Extended for another month due to a lack of entrys and the people wo are entering are taking thier sweet time - I think the next comp is going to have an eaiser subject matter.

IMAGE OF THE MONTH

This is the the best thing for Atomic Artists since the invention of the mouse.

Thanks to Logan Booker AtomicMPC will host and pimp an image a month from the AtomicArt group.

Heres how it will work:

1: Nomination - AtomicArt members can nominate pieces from other AtomicArt members galleries by sending AtomicArt a message with a link to the image.

2: Voting - At the end of each month AtomicArt admin will post a list of nominated pieces and like the comps members can vote for thier fav by sending a message with thier vote to AtomicArt.

3: Hosting - When all the votes are in we will tally them and AtomicMPC will host the most liked "Image of the month" on photonic for all atomicans to see.

(I have opted for a monthly thing - instead of weekly - to reduce the work load on Admin)

Hi everyone ~MNP here. WOOT im admin /cheers. ok, there has been a lull in updating the 'recruitment' so there are new members, welcome.

I have been chatting to Ben Mansill and Logan Booker and it looks like atOmic is willing to host some art and pump AtomicArt in the community - there will be more info on this later.

And for all you bored ones: Im coming up with a new comp, that will be up soon.

Hi, all, ~beef here. Just thought I'd drop by check how things were going. The project seems to be a bit slow at the moment, so I think that we should make it an on-going thing. Which basically means no due date. Finishing it is what counts most. Also, can everyone put Journal on for AtomicArt in there devwatch. This way you get any new Journal entries... Thanks, cya!

So and end to another competition and with a little more effort from our fellow Atomicans, we managed to pull togather 4 entrys. All in all.. the quality has risen.. which is the whole point of our competitions. To allow to everyone experiment and hopefully gain some new skills. Anyways, the submissions for this month were:

Again, they were all pretty damn good this time around. But there can only be one winner and I'd like to announce the winner to be MNP with his traditional based peice of a bullet. Not many graphic artists/designers out there can actually go back to traditional methods and develop a peice with the good 'ol pencil or paintbrush. MNP pulling this off shows a lot of skill which I very much respect. Freespace came really close with his fantasy peice of 2 knights fighting in the sky.. It was an awesome idea and he pulled it off. The fact that he tried and tried again to perfect the peice brought him closer to winning. Blade-377's again late entry had some funky ideas to it, which I think was inspired by the movie S-W-A-T.. It was pretty good, but I felt it lacked something.. maybe next time Blade.

And that's my summary. Be around for the next competition. I'm taking suggestions.

The October competition has ended. Though with just 2 submissions, there can only be one winner and I'd like to announce that that person is ~stealth37 .

As mentioned before there were only 2 submissions so I might aswell write up a summary and what not since there's not much of it, lol.

"AtomicART How I Love Thee" [link]

This submission by Levinet was accomplished with technical finesse but was then later on described as going downhill from there. It was quite the laugh with subtle mockery of AtomicART (" bastard, lol" - ~beef), though it was all in good humour. Good effort by Levinet, but the peice didn't quite grasp the topic of "Skulls" and so the trophy just slipped through his hands.

Stealth37 joined AtomicART a bit after and so he was the wildcard with his late submission into the competition. He pulled of a peice which was somewhat indirect to the topic but still captured the feeling well. With the use of his cheap thunder tutorial, funky background textures, and font work he managed to steal the trophy from Levinet.

So great effort all round fellas. And see you all for the next competition.

AtomicArt has been idling for a while now, and I think it's time for a competition.

The topic will be (just off the top of my head):

A Skull

Do anything you want; 3D render, Vector, Drawing or even a Poem. Just make sure it's got something to do with a Skull or anything that a Skull symbolizes (death, horror, etc.).

Post a link of your entry as a comment of this Journal Entry. Judging will be done by myself, Johnsee and Cyberswine (If he's around, ).

Competition ends on the 11th of November.
