Hi Folks.

I've not been on DeviantArt much. I think thats probably because doing so hits a frustrating theme in my life. This place seems like a giant popularity contest. So every time I stare at my pageviews, I just think "oh man, why aren't they higher?" Well maybe I suck at publicity, or maybe I just am not good at staying in touch, but it's no good.

When the admin created the feature where you can hide pageviews I got excited. I promptly made them invisible. Well, what ended up happening? I just stopped going to DA. So I guess it was just a giant popularity contest for me. Ew. Am I really that low?

So next I realize that it's just not that simple. My frustration is really that I feel that I just don't ever get an attention. Now I dont' mean this in the boo hoo why am I not popular way. I just mean, there are many (not all), but many of my friends who just don't freeking contact me. They say that they would like to hang, and want to do all this cool stuff. Well, why the hell am I always the one that has to call up?

So in short, I'm sorry if I've neglected your commission, yes, they are still on my mind. No, I don't plan on never uploading art again, and yes I'm still doing art.

But man oh man. I'm not blaming you guys. I'm not blaming anyone. I get busy too, I have a full time job, I have a life, I don't get enough sleep, but I try to stay in touch. Why do I have to do all the work.

Thank you to all of you out there who tried, and are my wonderful cohorts in this crazy vortex called life. And a big fat giant whatever to all of you out there who can't practice what you preach.

So yes, I have dropped an absurd amount of my wallet into my most prized offspring yet. A 5d Mk II.
I am very amped, and hope you all enjoy and upgrade in quality. I have yet to take any really mind killers yet with this camera, but I'm sure that I will at some point, they always creep up on me somehow. I might also like to add that the L lens that came with this camera is hands down the best piece of glass I have ever owned. If canon churns out L lenses this good, I will die when I see the clarity from a Prime lens.

Well,

I've done some really fun designs lately. I've deiced to finally design myself business cards. It took me a few days, but I came out with a really fun design. Awesomely enough the design for the back has resulted in my new Siggy/Watermark. It's not gigantic, but it's large enough to cover some of the design in the hopes of discouraging theft, which I know can be a common problem here on DeviantArt.

Anyways, here is the design, I hope you like it. I feel that it is not only awesomer, but pleasing enough to the eye to be forgivable as a watermark:

It's been some time, and it seems my work is steering towards photography more than anything else. I'm pleased to say that although I do miss photomanipulaiton a bit, I've been learning so much about photography and how to have some amazing fun with it in Photoshop, that I can't complain.

First off, I had no idea the power and fun you can have with Levels, Curves, and High Pass filters. I feel like my creative eye and technical ability have risen very much higher than it used to be at. This is great, because I finally feel like I deserve the Canon 5D Mark II that I'm saving up for. Expensive as all heck, but oh man, what a beautiful thing to take pictures with.

Because I've learned so much about Photoshop in the past many months, I'm considering starting to create some tutorials that will help people use the tools that Photoshop has to enhance their photography and artwork.

I'm so glad I found this site.

Hello folks!

Yes, it's true. I'm moving toward creating custom tribal tattoos for people who want me to design them.

Right now I'm offering five slots, the first three are fee, as long as the designs are not gigantic, and the last two will be priced normally. Size Pricing listed below: Once they are designed, and sent back to you, more slots will open. It will roll suchly.


This is how it will work:

1) Note me, submit, a line art or outline of a critter/specific object, send it to me and I can fill it in with those tribal rune shapes, which will define and enhance the design you have chosen. I will accept submissions in order.

2) I will begin a dialogue with you about how you want your design. The more detailed you can be in your description, the better, so try to be specific. Give me a description of what this symbol or design means to you, and specifics on what you would like to get out of the runic style (i.e, something powerful, something drippy, something complex, something simple), and maybe another image indicating how you want it to be like (roughly). A picture of the body part you'd like the tattoo to be upon is always helpful.

3) I will submit the image back to you when it is done, and it will be posted on my Deviantart account, watermarked to display as part of my portfolio.

4) Once you get your tattoo, I'd love to get a photo of it, and that will be posted and featured around as part of my portfolio as well. Thanks!!

5) SPREAD THE WORD!! Tell your friends, and show off! The more we grow and flourish as artists, the more the world will be awesomer... (yes I said awesomer, and I'm proud of it)!

Alright,

Now I know many artists out there love art for arts sake, and so do I, but I'm sure many of us sit back and wonder, how is it that some people make money creating art, and some don't. I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips or tricks, particular websites, or strategies that gets their artwork out there, and allows them to gain some recognition or a sale or two here and there.

Do you believe that it is right to sell artwork? What are your thoughts on creativity vs. revenue? Do they have to be separate?

I'm new to these concepts, so I'd just like to hear from some of you.

Well my trip away to the wilderness has resulted in many small trips to the wilderness, so I've gotten some awesome photos, but I'm not having the intensified experience that I was once expecting. It may try to jumpstart again this Wednesday, we shall see. Regardless, I have been having a lot of fun and am glad that I've gotten some work up.

Greetings Fellow Deviants!

So here's the scoup:
I am headed to [link] in the middle of this camp. If you want to come a long too, feel free to get in touch! I'm gonna be gone from June 15th through August 12th. It'll be a long wilderness trip, during which time I may not be able to upload many deviations. There is a caveat to this, which brings me to my next exciting piece of news.

I recently purchased a Canon EF 100mm Macro Lens for my Rebel XTi. So exciting. It cost me a pretty penny, but I saved up for it, and now it is mine. The great news is that I will be bringing this equipment to the wilderness, which is awesome because I will have a mad picture upload when I get back with the best of the best going up on DeviantArt.

My fan base isn't too big, so save for a few people, I'm really not sure how missed I'm going to be, but whatever.

Oh wow, some intense brain mechanisms have gone into the past few months. I'm in a tough situation and here it is. I have been accepted to FIDM with flying colors. Now, most people would be jumping up and down and screaming hooray! And I know a few people who would as well. But I seem to be stuck in this space of hesitation, still considering if it indeed is a space for me to move toward. I love this art world, and am having tons of fun with it, and I wonder if it would indeed be the right career for me, or indeed if FIDM would be the right school.

I currently have a graphic design job, which is the ironic part. I'm getting paid an entry level amount, but it's more than I get paid at a coffee shop job. It took me a while to adjust to. If I decided to go to school instead of stay here (or attempt to make it part time), what would be my reasons?

This is all I can think of regarding this

1) I want to go to school (which believe me is new)
2) I want to get more skills
3) I want to be challenged
4) I can afford it right now
5) Who wouldn't want another degree for one years tuition and a mere couple years of your life?

Reasons to stay in the job, and wait a year for school:

1) Money = +
2) Really good resume builder
3) Possible connections
4) Best of both worlds (go to school later, and get the job experience)
5) Yeah.. learn more about what it's like in this industry.

I'm lucky that I have till school starts in October to decide. I'm afraid of doing the wrong thing. I find myself torn between logic and gut. My gut wants to drive hard at something, and I think it might be schooling. On the other hand my logic says save up. Will I want to go to school in 18 months?! Probably not, but I can't be sure. Arg!!!


So if you've been kind enough to actually read this far, here is the more recent happenings in my art world aside from school. I'm happy to say that work has slowed yet not stopped my artistic process. Things are still being made and created. Hooray. My ability is slowly rising as I've learned a new shading technique from *of course* =CricketWings. This has helped my dimension a lot, and I can't wait to get better at it.

I have a couple of pieces that are being worked on currently, and hopefully you'll see those sometime soon.

Alrighty Folks

I'm getting kinda freaked out here. I've heard so much lately about people being rude and comment with nasty drama. I've heard about people hating on artwork. I've heard about so much. There has been so much art theft lately, and so much drama about how artwork should be done, I'm out. I'm leaving, I'm done.

It was a fun ride while it lasted, but why the heck should I stick around for a dumb popularity contest, when I could spend my time pursuing something that will actually make me money? I don't judge any of you for doing what you do, but I came to a big realization after midnight last night... and that the Art world, for me is a complete distraction.

I'm out, and I'm sorry if this leaves any of you sad and dejected. I'm leaving my featured artist up for another week or so, but then I'm gone. (Happy 1st of the month everyone [chuckle]).

Alrighty,

So today my Mother and I went to Looking Glass Photo to check out their photography rummage sale. Saw some cool stuff, asked some cool questions and got dragged inside the actual store by my curiosity and feeling of wanting new Photo Gadgets. You can always smell it in the air when you know you are about to spend money. So inside I ask many questions, some dumb and some quite smart. What I ended up learning was that I needed to take the next step by getting a Polarization Filter. This I did. And This I experimented with.

I went out with my Mother to a wonderful little place called the Albany Bulb (Albany, CA that is). We took some photos, and I thought that I'd take some for all you fans of photography out there so you could see what this filter does. Now mind you, filters aren't that useful for digital cameras because we all know that PS can do most things, as well as the cameras themselves having a high ability to edit the pictures they take. I was amazed at the ability for the Polarization Filter's ability to control glare. It was awesome. I actually dropped it, but managed not to scratch it (thank the Photography Gods!).

Here are some examples I have created for you:



All four images are with the Polarization filter on at two different angles per set. The differences can be subtle and drastic, but it is another level of control that you have over what you photograph. It is great for water as well. A bright sunny day with the filter on is great to reduce glare!

Well, I feel like I've finally reached a new level here on DeviantArt for 9 months now. I've watched my art develop in style and depth, and I'm very happy about it tonight. I just uploaded a few photos, and I feel good. I have a CSS Journal, I have much cool work in progress, and my doodling in my coffee shop job landed me a Graphic Design Job. Go figure, life is weird.

I feel like with this art, for the first time in my life, I really can focus and be in love with it. This is new for me, and wonderful. I follow my heart with my work, and it has lead me somewhere. For this I am eternally grateful. Never before have I felt such a flow from inward to outward, from soul to world. Huzzah.

I don't know what else to say, I hope to do a feature soon to celebrate stuff, if I EVER find time to actually search around DeviantArt. Perhaps I will feature =CricketWings to not only return the favor, but show how much she has improved. She has helped me a lot over the months, and she was the one that suggested that I get this DeviantArt account.

Okay, Take two with this entry.

So I've decided to add borders to all of my pieces. I'm also adding signatures. I'm finding that adding a thin black border and the signature lends each image a structure to be viewed in, but nothing too distracting to the eye. What I have discovered with each image as I'm adding the borders and signatures is that there are adjustments to the images I could be making that I hadn't before. I've learned a lot about Photoshop CS3 in the passing months, and I'm employing it now. Though at first glance many of these images in my gallery are hardly different, believe me there is one, and my gallery now is gaining a larger brighter more dynamic feel.

I hope that this all improves my art's look a bit, and that you enjoy the updates. I'm consequently removing some to storage or scraps due to this process as well. Call it spring cleaning in Winter.

Well,

Here I am in Massachussets. I'm having a great time here at my Sisters. I'm eating well, I just finished a project, am taking some lovely photos, and am painting with my Sister! She is quite good and I'm glad that we could collaborate on a piece before I went home. I am returning to California on Monday night, new years Eve. I'm not too happy about this, but it doesn't matter too much to me.

I am impacient to get more content up on DeviantArt. I've put some stuff up, but I feel that my artwork lately is somewhat lacking in.. not so much expression, but enthusiasm, intensity. I have qutie a few unfinished pieces that are going to be done hopefully sooner than later. One of which I really can't wait to get up. It's creepy, and I have a couple of versions of it in my scraps, but hopefully the real thing will be up in the next month.

January is going to be and interesting month for me because for once in my life it won't be just the continuation of school, or the resuming of what I did before, I feel it will be a fresh start. I just got settled at my new job, and I have many ambitions that I hope to play out this year. One of these ambitions is to put forth my digital work into the world. This is very hard, and I know I may fail again and again, but I am determined to be a graphic designer/photographer, and I need all the support I can get.

When I joined DeviantArt, I found that I had a very easy time putting effort into artwork. I never considered myself an official and skilled artist, but I feel I am growing into something of the sort. Art comes naturally to me, and I mean not only in skill but in enthusiasm. Never before in my life have I found something that I've not only devoted so much time to, but am really really enthusiastic about. It's amazing. I'm so happy about it, so forget everything else, let's just do what is there, lets enjoy life and create. And that is my plan, and let that be my path.

I hope those few of you who do read this journal are having a happy New Year, had a wonderful Solstice/X-Mas, and are as enthused as I am to kick into the new year with not a burning throttle, but a iron force drive to do at least a little bit ever day and inch toward your dreams.

Well,

November is over. I'm back in the saddle with creating art. I must say that my November Novel didn't get as far as I would have liked, but I still am working on it, so no problem.

My artwork has taken a bit of a dive, but I have a few pieces in the works that you should see poping up in the coming weeks. I've got a sample WIP of the latest one in my scraps. It's crazy. Yay. It's face with a coat rack, severally edited. It's one of my most intense pieces yet. There will be a new collaboration soon, and hopefully some new traditional illustrations. I've already put one up.

I'm so tired.

Well this month is national novel writing month. Now I usually am addicted to photoshop, but this month I have to churn out a novel, so I have to be addicted to writing. I was thinking of posting my rough chapters to here, but I think it would be better to just post good photographs. I feel that my photos are getting a lot better, I feel, and I'd like to share them, and see how my gallery does with some photography in it.

I've made a vow to upload pure digital photography, non-manipulated, straight from camera to computer, and nothing else, and that is what you will see for this month of November. I hope you all like.

I would just like to put a thanks out to every person who has been viewing me. My viewer base is getting bigger and it is exciting, thanks to you all! In a while I'm going to start doing features and contests!

Well, it seems I've made it into Phirebrush issue number 55. I'm not sure how big or small Phirebrush is, but regardless, It's nice to have more exposure. I'm surprised that I got into it twice in a row. It could be they just don't get that many submissions, I'm really not sure. Oh well. HUZZAH anyways. Yeah.

Well, that's it. Blarg, there will be many more cute animals that are disgruntled or have indigestion on the way in the coming months, so keep a look out!

Whoa! 3 O'Clock Shadow got featured in a DA article for Oct 2007!

This quite made my day yesterday, and I'm enjoying the attention. I find myself with a photo that is now more popular than 'Elements.' This is a big surprise, seeing as that one reigned supreme for a while. Hurrah! I'm glad of it. I've had my moment in the sun finally,

I see the shade coming again, but with relief to my eyes as now I can do more art.

Being who I am, it is very nice to be able to see a track record. I don't have many aside from a resume, and it's nice to see myself having created 20 to 30 pieces of artwork here, without fail, and without long term interruption. I usually get all distracted and such, but this has been a big addiction for may. HOORAY FOR ADDICTIONS! (don't usually say stuff like that).

The upshot is that my drawing skill (as simple as it is at the moment) is actually improving, and I'm happy to say that drawing is actually becoming a part of my deviations now. I feel like a very unseasoned artist who is beginning to understand the depth and complexity of what it means to be an artist. I'm hoping to create more, and to rise higher.

It's been a bit, and I've been having very slight art block. I'm breaking through it, and it seems that the artwork that is coming out of this breakthrough is also more expressive, which I think is great.

I'm happy because my skills are starting to blend in my artwork. Drawing and photomanipulation are starting to merge. This is an exciting prospect to me. My most recent deviation, Ember's Lesson, has drawing, photography, manipulation, etc. A lot in it. I'm excited for the future.

I'm having a bit of trouble moving onward with my 'Her' project, which you can check out in the scraps. My skill has improved, but I'm starting to get a bit bored with the image. I don't think this is good. Perhaps I'll be able to pick it up again soon. I miss doing photomanipulaitons, so I might spend a while doing those.

Okay... so... Having realized that photomanipulation is dope, but that so is drawing I've decided to make an endeavor to tech myself realsim to a degree. I've been experimenting with drawing characters and figures. I found myself having trouble mimicking actual drawings, so I'm just getting hints from staring at photographs of faces, etc.

My goal is to spend tons and tons of weeks making one drawing simply amazing, just to see if it is possible. I've decided to do it bit by bit. I will be posting improvements into my scraps. Feedback is welcome, though because this is my first realism drawing, I have no clue how easy it will be to make corrections, so no promises, but I think feedback will help me a lot, along with encouragement. I'm very determined to become an artist, and expand my ability. Here it goes!

Well let's see here. I gave up my olde tablet to and bought myself a new one... a 6x8. The cool thing is that this is actually allowing me to draw on my computer nearly just like I can draw in real life. So I've been spending the past few days working on a new piece that involves my drawing style. Thanks to photoshop, I can enhance my drawing style with corrections. It should be done in a few days or a week. Please be patient!

It's becoming a process no doubt. My artwork flows, but it has entered that phase of being something to push and and explore. The beginner good luck is over and I'm actually faced with the challenge of making good artwork. I know that's putting pressure on myself, but it is pressure that I really like with DeviantArt. I'm racing myself in the most patient of ways.

God I've been exhausted. I'm a little worried about myself, maybe it's just coming back from camp, but I've been very tired, and out of wack, more like out of sorts. It's bizzare. I've been making cool art though. I've been a bit too busy to make anything in the past couple of days, but I just can't wait to get back to it, maybe tomorrow night.
