Hey all! Figured it was time I updated this journal...I tend to neglect it in favor of my LJ. XD

Anyway, on the art front, expect to see more from me, whether it be finishing up old things (I still have trades to get to) or bringing in new. I plan on doing more badge commissions, as I really enjoy making them! I just bought a whole bunch of new snazzy holders...so yay! Plan to see sketches, badges, and sculptures in the future. However, a lot of my time is going to be taken up by my Senior thesis. It's scary to think I'm in my senior year of college! But I want to be as professional as possible, so has to have something for a portfolio once I've graduated and have the whole world in front of me. I just hope I'll be able to make a place for myself among all the wonderful illustrators that are out there! But yeah, I'll be posting stuff from my thesis as I work on it, too...probably will ask your opinions as every bit helps in the relm of criticism.

As far as life in general, been toughing it out as I've been getting sick on and off a lot lately. *blink* It's really strange, because stuff like this normally doesn't happen to me, let alone as often as it has been lately. But for now, I'm feeling well, and hoping to stay that way!

And geez, I feel so behind on looking at everyone's art! Now that I have a cable connection (I know, it's about time, Autie!), it shoudn't be a problem, but it really is hard keeping up with all of you! It's like, I miss two days and have 300 deviations to go through! But from what I have seen, there's been a lot of wonderful art from you guys...I envy! Hope to look at more today, but will most likely be using my time working on sketches for trades and such.

But there's my little update on life in general. Hope you're all doing well!

Just felt like posting a little something here, since I haven't in a time. School has kept me very busy, which is why the next few pieces I post will be mostly schoolwork! XD But I have felt that I've overcome a hurdle, and I wanted to share something with other artists.

I was having a tough time last week. Sometimes, I just get really depressed about my art, feeling like I'm in a rut and just can't move. But if there's one thing I've learned as I've been growing as an artist, it's that you will have your down times, and most times, you'll feel your art is not up to par. However, what makes you an artist, is that you are willing to push yourself to your limits to try and become better at what you're doing.

My latest project, Bunnicula, has been something that I was determined to tackle head-on. I wanted this to be the best artwork that came out of this year, to be able to prove to myself that I could do some things that I didn't think I could do. I put most of my time, and all of my heart and soul, into this project. And y'know what? I think I darn well proved it. Though I haven't finished all 3 of my pieces yet (the other 2 are coming along, though!), I'm pretty pleased that I've made a leap of faith and went for it. It was well worth it, and I learned some things about myself in the process.

So, consider this post a pick-me-up for those who aren't satisfied with their art. Don't worry! Things will get better, and perhaps you should try to push yourself with the next piece you do. Sometimes you just have to believe in yourself and take a stab at something new and different...you might just discover something about yourself in the process.

Mmmn, haven't written here inna while! Livejournal is my usual writing haunt...but I figured this pertained more to this place...SO. A question for you all!

First off, if I offerred to do conbadges, would any of you be interested? I've tossed around the idea of doing a set limit of them, for $25 each. They'd be gouache on bristol board, and I would work my hardest to get one done each week. I just don't wanna offer'em if no one is interested...anyway, I'd use the money towards AnthroCon, since I get to go this year! Woot! And any funds would help. Soooo, lemme know if you guys would seriously consider purchasing or not.

Second, am thinking of holding a contest after all of my trades and commissions are finished. (which may be a while yet!) My question is if any of you would consider entering. I know my art ain't the greatest, but prizes would be art by me...most likely a real media or digitally colored full piece for the 1st prize, and full color transparent GIF's for 2nd and 3rd prize. What do you all think?

I appreciate any feedback you can give!

Hey guys! Thanks for all the replies about the Prismas. I've decided whom they're going to...my only lament is that I can't give all of you something. You're all so deserving! But I've decided to split my Prismas between Rekkar and Huskee! I have 72 colors, and a few of them are doubles, so each of you will be getting some of those colors, as well as other ones. I am going to choose, based on your galleries, what colors I decide to give you, but they will be split evenly between you both, so you'll both be getting 36 markers. I hope you enjoy them, and use them well!!!

Please e-mail me at autumn_sunrise@hotmail.com, or note me here, with your addresses, so I can get them ready to send off. I will be sending them sometime next week, most likely. I'm just throwing this out there in case any of you enjoy Prismas or would like to work more with them...please read carefully!

If any of you arteests like to use Prismacolor markers and need more colors, or if some of you can't get Prismas where you are and would like to have some to toy around with, lemme know. Since I got my 144 color set, all the markers I previously bought individually don't really get any use (unless I happen to run out of ink)....and I'd like to give them to someone who has real need of them, preferably someone who finds it hard to afford them, or who can't get them (like those overseas) and would like to use'em. SOOOO, if you are interested, or know someone who is in need of markers, let me know, either through posting here, or reaching me through my e-mail (autumn_sunrise@hotmail.com)...should I get more than one request, I'll have to make a choice who recieves them, so please state why you want them.
But Halloween was fun! We didn't have too many people come by this year, though...that was a bit surprising. I wanted to keep my rat in the treat bowl when people came...LOL. And I have all of you to thank. I know it's been forever since I've updated...fear not! I have some stuff coming. Things have just been hectic over here, and I've not had much time to update or even to look at half the pictures of those I DevWatch. And I have so many friends to add to my list yet! How'm I gonna manage it!?

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to y'all and tell ya I still live. Hope to update soon!

Productive, but very long. My joints ache. I was on my feet almost all day at work, going through books, alphabetizing them, checking them for defects, that kinda thing. I'm not gonna be at work Monday, so it was like, finish as much as we can cuz we're gonna be overloaded on Tuesday morning. So yes. I am VERY beat!

Then, after work, I went to Sarah's house (she's my sister's friend) to get muh hair cut. She has her own like, in-home salon...'tis great! So I lopped off over half of my hair. My head isn't weighed down anymore! Also got it hghlighted...something I've never done before. It looks quite nice! *squee!*

Also went to Best Buy 'n picked up the PoA soundtrack. I'm lovin' it so far! When I first saw the movie and heard the music in the background, I knew I had to have it. A lot of it is very Renaissance/Medieval-ish, which is probably why I love it so! I swear I was born in the wrong era...

Anyway, I have the weekend ahead, which is a good thing! I'll be doing a lot of art...including some painting as part of a gift for my grandparents. Hope I get a chance to drop by as I have plenty of messages here to check! Hope all the father's out there have a good Father's Day, too! *dance*

Yes...not much, really! Just thoughts. Was looking through some great art today. And thought about how much on certain days I'm just like...GAWD! My art sucks! Why the heck am I doing this!? I get really depressed about my art sometimes. Never enough to quit, no...I love making it too much. But sometimes it really feels like I'll never reach any goal I try to shoot for with my art. I see so much by others, and I'd like to draw like that, but can't. There's times where I feel that someday...I'll BE that good! I'll get better! But other times I'm like...blah. I think it probably happens to all of us at one time or another. But keep striving...if there's one thing I've learned about art that keeps my hopes up, it's that if you keep working at it, you'll improve.

As for the WIP's...I wanted to let you guys no that you can feel no shame at all in giving me critiques!! I love hearing your thoughts, both good and bad, that could make me make a better piece out of any given work-in-progress. That way, I can change it before anything is solidified! I'm very cool with critiques, and appreciate them very much. I promise I'm good at taking them...trust me, I go to art college and get it from my teachers alla time. If you guys think there's a way for me to improve a piece, please feel free about saying so and I'll take it into consideration!

And with that, I'm off to sketch wolf pups...

But I'm all happeh cuz I got things situated at work, and am gonna be there 'til July 2nd! 'Tis perfect, cuz then I get my July 4th vacation with my fam, and get to chill until my temp agency finds another job for me. Woo! That, and I have this coming Monday off! Asquee!
Before my ranting, I must thank ~Cekx for alerting me to a recent art theft. As for the ranting....dude, why is it that those who steal my art have to so blatantly try and say they didn't? I've only come in contact with art theft twice...for which I'm thankful. This being only the second time...and hopefully the last.

I'm pretty nice about it...I didn't go off flaming their comments or anything. I simply noted them and asked them to either give me credit, or take it down. Of course, they swear up and down that they got it from some dog reference drawing book and can make a scan and prove it. I've noted them back and asked for that scan...and am waiting for a reply. Let's see what happens next...I could probably tell you. I'm sure their scanner will magically break or some other dumb story they come up with. If that's the case, screw being lenient.

What I don't understand, and what peeves me most, is why they can't just ADMIT they stole it! I think the true artist knows their own drawing (or any rendition thereof) in and out...it's like, hello? Do you really think you can fool me? I know my own work and I have my drawing to prove it!! Is it so hard to either say I'm sorry or just, as I asked, mention and give a link in your description that I was the one who drew the piece you copied from? I'm not asking much, and I'm being gracious about it, so what is the big friggin' deal?

It's just so frustrating!!! Honesty sure seems like a rarity sometimes...*sticks tongue out*

Mmmkay, yes, there is an actual point to this journal entry!! I've been seeing some people looking for good animal tutorials or references lately, and I promised some scans to them. So, I figured I'd share them with all of you, or at least give some tips I think are good to know for any artist.

First, lemme tell ya about some sources for drawing. First off Getty Images is a great place to find some wonderful reference photos. If any of you are familiar with Corbis, this place is similar, only, in my mind, better. The watermarks often don't run across the images, so it's pretty darn nice! Plus, there's illustrations there, too. GO check it out! Also, I know it'll sound crazy, but Dover Art coloring books...kickin'. They have stuff for just about anything, from medieval clothing, to historical events, to animals. These are not kiddie coloring books, but rather, they display incredible, relaistic ink drawings, and info about the subject on every page! It's great stuff.

Now, to the scans, and some books. First off, some big cat scans from "Cats in Action", with art from Walter J. Wilwerding. Snagged these for Shahila, which is why I centered mostly on the lions. Lion 1, Lion 2, Lion 3, Lion 4. He does some really nice pencil drawings, and uses mainly skeletal structure to do his work. I suggest looking up more stuff about the skeleton and musculature, though. Scanned this lion piccy too, simply because I think the illustration is just great! It's from one of those wildlife fact card things...*laughs*

And some wolf ones for kaylacshoopy! These are froma book called "Wildlife Painting Basics: Wolves, Foxes, and Coyotes" by Jan Martin McGuire. This book has really nice photo references and sketches, and is great for those who like painting in Acrylics. There's a tutorial in this book of how to do an acrylic painting of a group of 3 wolves...really nice stuff. Here are some anatomy references, and some great sketches she did of varied wolf behavior. Wolf 1, Wolf 2, Wolf 3, Wolf 4 .

And though I didn't make any scans from this book, "Drawing and Painting Horses" by Barbara Oelke is REALLY great! (if you want some scans, just ask!) There aren't a lot of photo references, but she has a ton of anatomy drawings, and there are lots of great paintings in this book, along with a tutorial of how to do a nice oil painting of a horse. I was constantly referencing this book to do my Last Unicorn painting. A must-have for horse artists!

Hope these help some of you out!!!

Today's been a very good day. Not only is it gorgeous outside (I got to go to the woods today, ee!) but it's nice to know I only have one more actual day of classes before I get a NICE long break to finish up my projects. I'm still kinda upset at the fact that I can't go down to the shore this weekend, as I have a lot of work to finish up, but it's no big. I'm just feeling more pack oriented than usual, and I'll miss the rest of my family while they're gone. I know I'll be lonely, but I'll at least have no distractions from getting my stuff done, which is a plus.

Not sure whether or not I'll get to working on trades this weekend either, but I have hopes. I have many of them sketched, a few with ink pending. So nyaarrr!! *bounce*

Oh, and my computer is back up and running again at home...we still need to do some recovering and restructuring, but all the basics are back up, including the Internet! So things should be somewhat back on schedule.

It's a bit hectic around here at present, because I have lots of projects to be working on, and not enough time left to finish them! I'm glad, however, that my teachers are giving us the week between crits (which we have off) to be touching up any projects that should need it. I'll probably actually be FINISHING my project that are incomplete, as backed up as I am!

Anyway, I need to get to class and work on my oil painting. Thanks again for the 1,000 page views, all! *hug*

So yes...*death* I'm at school and will be using these comps for a bit. Hopefully, mine will be up and running by the end of the week, but there's no promises. So, for those I'm doing trades with, it may be a bit before I get to scanning and coloring them. Heck, it might be a while before I even DRAW them, considering this week's workload from college. But that's to be expected, with only a couple of weeks left. *rejoice* I'll be happeh when it's over!

And....I feel like writing. Something. Whether it be poetry or a short story. I've just really felt like it lately, had ideas run through my head from time to time. It's a little strange, as I don't really write a lot, and it's rare for me to truly WANT to write. Mebbe I'll scratch some of my thoughts down, though. *stretches 'n yawns*

KKitty, I sketched yours up last night (gotta ink it, yis!) and it looks so funny! Also messed with some poses for WildSpiritWolf and JC, and did some fossa picture searching last night for Starhorse. I'm having fun!
I'll probably do transparent GIF's or simple colored pix like the KKitty raptor. So, if perhaps anyone is interested, feel free to note me about it. *dance!*

Was just looking through some of Thornwolf's art, and noticed her little personal signature, a commonly used phrase, "Animals are people, too." Yes, I understand what it is supposed to imply, but the more I read the statement, the more I disagree with it. All I gotta say is, God forbid if animals were EVER like people. All the mystery, intrigue, knowing, and wildness of them...gone. Everything that makes an animal an animal would disappear. No, animals are NOT people, and I for one am glad of that. It just brings to mind one of my favorite lines from the live action Jungle Book movie that Disney made (one of my faves, eee!), as Mowgli has seen all the man-made devices to kill, and is afterward looking at all the mounted animal heads on the wall..."The more I see of what is man, the more I want to be an animal." I think that line about sums it up for me...
