Well, I might regret making this journal at some point, but I figured I should get it all out there for everyone. I mean, almost everyone in the DAMF IRC channel knows already, may as well go full on. Whoo. So anyways. I'm just gonna come right out with it:

I am transgendered.

I don't know why it took me nearly 25 years to figure this out, because once the full realization hit me like a ton of bricks, it all seemed so obvious. It's always been there, a huge nagging feeling that something just wasn't right, but due to the way I was raised and the fact that I was a pretty depressed kid anyways, I tried to think about it as little as possible.

Well, shit's kind of been hitting the fan in a steady stream lately and I've been forced into introspection, I suppose you could say. Once I actually looked at who I was, not who I wished I was or who I portrayed myself as, I realized what was up. And it's been staring me in the face for years. This realization was building up and building up and building up for a while, and when ~luckymaroon (aka PJ) came out of the blue with the fact that he's transgendered, I hit a tipping point and just couldn't deny it any longer. It all came pouring out.

I feel pretty dumb about it, but frankly just the realization that this is what is up, that I was born into the wrong gender, that I am, at heart, not a male, oh man. It feels so good, so right. I haven't actually felt this right about myself in... well, I can't even think of a time. I don't really know where I'm going to go from here, but baby steps and all.

Anyways, that's all there is to it. Like it, hate it, whatever. This is who I am, and I feel great. I'd rather you didn't hate it, but hey.

So I've got this guitar. It's my Gibson SG Gothic. I love it. A lot. But the black. Ugh. It's just black and it used to be matte but I've played it so much it's shiny in spots and just kind of hideous. I need to fix it up a bit anyways, and I may be replacing one of the pickups for no good reason, so I was thinking about refinishing it. Anyone into woodworking? I've gotta get an apparently very thick layer of black paint off of it, then depending on how good the grain looks (i've heard the gothic series was made up of somewhat-cosmetically flawed guitar bodies painted black) I'm thinking about doing some kind of natural finish. My questions are:

How best to get the paint off? I've heard of using a heat gun to strip the paint, but I'm worried about that doing bad things to the glue in the frets. Sanding would probably work, but it could mess up the lines of the guitar. And I know nothing of chemical paint thinners, except that I'm probably really sensitive to them and would choke to death on the fumes before I got anywhere near stripping any paint off.

After that, what would make a nice, natural finish, provided the woodgrain is decent. I prefer dull finishes to shiny ones, so I was thinking about just doing a few coats of boiled linseed oil and leaving it at that. Otherwise, some really funky bright stain might be fun. I'd love a bright purple yet still woodgrain guitar, that would look awesome.

Provided the woodgrain is crap, what then? How should I go about painting it?

Also, while I'm asking questions, how about filling in scratches and dents? It's gotten quite a few gouges here and there, after 9 years of use. None of them have broken through the paint, but they're definitely dents in the wood itself. Is there an easy way to fix those? If I go the "natural finish" route, they'd look pretty cool, right? A bit darker?

There she is today. You can kind of see what I mean about her seeing better days. I plan on keeping the hardware black no matter what, I really like it like that. Chrome is a bit meh, and unless I go for some kind of dark purple finish, gold is a no-no too.

Following hot on the heels of last year's Lord for £39, Neil Landstrumm brings us some more of his now-signature demented ravestep. Bleeps, bloops, squelches, sawtooths, and nigh-illegal amounts of bass combine to make a nearly overwhelming sonic experience, much akin to having your chest caved in by a large man named Gerald. In a good way. No. A great way.

Bambaataa Eats His Breakfast lets you know what you're in for right away, with almost-dizzying arped out square waves stabbing you in the earholes. And it doesn't let up, either. This album is non-stop, through and through. Which leads me to my one problem with it. It's short. And I mean short. It clocks in at just over 30 minutes. I could easily listen to another 40 minutes of this. For this reason, and this reason alone, it only gets 11 cupcakes out of a baker's dozen.

Portugal as a nation and the Cross of Christ from 1143 and the Golden Age of Discoveries to End Times

Almost a millenium later, the failure of portuguese people to defend national independence, accepting to be formally absorbed by the EU, one of the heads of the beast, another end times sign in society.

Looking at a map of 1419, the date of the discovery of the island of Madeira, the day marking the begin of the Golden Age of Discoveries, there is only one nation with the current borders. (1) The same nation that gave birth to the captains of the vessels that first reached the coasts of all the previously unknown Atlantic and Indian Ocean islands (all previoulsy uninhabited); the previoulsy unknown coasts of Africa and South America; and last but not the least, at the end of the Golden Age, almost half of the world's previoulsy unknown meridians, i.e. the Pacific Ocean between South America and the Philippines (2). Actually captains beyond what is taught today as History (3).

The symbol of the Golden Age, ever since day 1 until the end, was the red Cross of Christ, which only portuguese vessels carried on their sails, the symbol of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator.

During the Golden Age, the first thing the portugueseas did as they landed on unknown coasts, was to plant the Cross. The goal was not to turn the natives into slaves (4). The goal was securing the spices trade and spreading the message of Christ.

(1) In 1419, those borders had already prevailed for a long time. The borders between Portugal and what is today Spain, defined in 1143, the first day of Portugal as an independent nation, were until now the oldest national borders in the world.

(2) Major exceptions were Magellan in 1521, who was portuguese but sailing for the spanish empire, in the first human voyage around the world. That was also the case of portuguese Cabrillo in 1578, the first non-american to reach the Pacific Coast of the US.

(3) Columbus, who rewritten History describes as Genovese, who before beginning (apparently) to work for the spanish empire was living in the island of Porto Santo, Madeira.. He was in fact a portuguese of jewish descent, born in the town of Cuba, Alentejo.

(4) Slavery begun only after the end of the Golden Age of Discoveries, the day Magellan died, days after becoming the first man to have sailed all the world's meridians.

Other than that, not much is up. Got free tickets to a Morrissey show on Friday, which prompted me to check out Year of Refusal. Fucking great, for a recent Morrissey record. I wasn't expecting much after You are the Quarry, seeing as that one was fucking rubbish. But I would recommend the new one. "It's Not Your Birthday Anymore" is a superb track.
