Yeah, haven't really been working on the 25,000 Pageview Comics. You know, boredom, short attention span, new idea for comics featuring Alan, all those myriad excuses. There's no guarantee that I will go back to working on it, but it's not like I actually have a duty to do it. Screw you guys, I'll do whatever I want! Well, not whatever I want. I do have some self-control.

Through a handy coincidence, ~dodoman1 did one of those "comment and I'll pick my favourite three picture" memes, which means I have to extend the same offer to everyone else. Except I already did a similar meme, but only 5 out of 15 people responded. So now, it's like I'm perpetuating the meme, except I don't have to do anything else.

Let's see, some music to mention:

I'm putting some more thought into Alan's design, perhaps taking him into more of an organic direction. Maybe some more retractable quills, a new design for the sword/spine, maybe add in some stranger secretions, that sort of thing. The concept is inspired somewhat by the Cirbizoids Starshift Crisis/Starslip Crisis/Starslip, which were amusing for always showing bizarre new abilities on a regular basis. Of course, an earlier concept for Alpha had him developing mutations on a regular basis as well, so it's not entirely derivative. Still, I don't want him to develop too many powers and I don't want him too complex. Not that it really matters...

I just realized that those links that I put at the bottom of the journal are nearly all obsolete or unneeded. The Awesome Website doesn't keep track of hits anymore, I already have links and bookmarks to the Tardis Wiki and I just finished the 100 Picture Thing. I suppose Nearly as Awesome Website still provides important information, but just having the one link makes my journal look sparse. Not that it really matters...

Yes, I have finally finished it. This reasonably epic (though not that epic) project is finally done.

I started this project way back in December, 2006 with Death. It's taken me so long I can't remember anything about the beginning. I probably had a whole speech thought out for when I finished it, but I have no idea what is was. I doubt there's many people who've been here from the beginning. I bet most people just thought I was randomly choosing numbers and topics and then making a picture out of it every so often.

Was it Fun/Interesting?
It was all right. If I was going to do it again, I'd probably would do it. Or if I did, I'd choose a meme with more interesting topics to do. But it was kind of interesting to start with a word and make a picture from it.

Was it Worth It?
Yes, but probably not for the reasons they intended. I didn't really plumb the depths of my creativity to create the pictures and I didn't push myself to try new subject matters. But I did pick up a trick or two for drawing and I was able to develop Alpha/Alair as a character.

What About Alpha/Alair?
Ah, Alpha. At the time I started, Alpha was a pretty poorly defined character with a bland design. Now, Alair may not be a good character, but he is definitely more streamlined, more interesting to look at and generally less of a Gary Stu. And now I've become attached to him again, so it's likely I'll keep on trying to improve him.

Have I Improved?
I would like to think so. The example I used before, namely comparing Evil and Clumsy. They both have a similar topic, two people sitting and talking, but there is a difference between the skill level between the two. The background is better, the characters are more defined and the angles are more realistic.

But besides those two, I still think there's an improvement. I rely on less copy and pasting, the characters are less stiff, the designs are more complex and I rely less on cheating with PhotoDeluxe. Now, I'm not a good artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I am a better one than I used to be.

So, I found the Nyoron Churuya-san and The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya shorts. I've never actually seen the original Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but I do have a soft spot for slapstick and overreacting by cute things. And it is interesting to hear how Nyoron is actually pronounced.

So, I saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine. S'all right. I suspect if I knew more about Wolverine's origins in the comics, I would be annoyed with the changes/pleased with the accuracy/annoyed by the lack of changes.

So, other things to mention:

• You know how I mentioned how useful and interesting the SCP Foundation was? Found another fun source with Warehouse 23. I mean, they've got thousands of interesting ideas. It's more conspiracy based and sillier than the SCP Foundation, which could be what you're looking for.


• I recently got Discovery of Dragons from the library after I had been reminiscing. I've got to say, it's a great book. Definitely stands the test of time, or something like that.


• I'm strangely intrigued by District 9. Which is odd, considering it seems more serious than my usual preferences. I suppose they don't show the alien, so now it will bother me until I know what it looks like.


• So, I just noticed I have 95 watchers. Nearly 100! And yet, I generally still only get a few comments and/or favs for my pictures. That still bothers me more than it should.


• And now, some Lyrebird.

I suspect there's some other things to mention, but I can't remember what. I'll get back to you on that.

I just wanted to remind everyone that Air-Kraken Day is coming up on the 17th (also Saint Patrick's Day, but that's not important right now). I learnt of it from here and I believe it's my duty to spread the word.

Something which I really must point out is SCP Foundation. It's got a list of hundreds of different paranormal items. Quite frankly, they've got some really disturbing things there (I had trouble sleeping after reading about and seeing the picture for SCP-173). Now, I'm not suggesting that you steal ideas from the SCP, but if you need some ideas for strange artefacts, I suggest you steal ideas from the SCP. Also, I would suggest [DATA EXPUNGED]

So, I also found a very snazzy commercial. I mean, it's got a steam-powered T. rex; what's not awesome about that? Also a naked robot woman, but that's not important right now.

I also finally found Afganisu-tan. I had heard about it before, but I never actually saw it. Having found it, there is really nothing I can say that can describe it (except, perhaps "guh?").

So, for a few reccomendations for books:

• I got Parasite Rex for my birthday. It's a very good book, though I was expecting more about multicellular parasites like fleas, but(as the book pointed out) parasites includes all the bacteria and protists which live off other life. I must admit, the book both made me fear for my life and pity the poor parasites.


• I also got When Science goes Wrong for my birthday. Also a good book. It's always nice to know that professionals screw up as well.


• I borrowed The Book of Animal Ignorance from the library. Of course I will recommend it, but even if it wasn't a QI book I would. I never really knew about the number of vaginas a kangaroo had...

So, I recently learned that Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was Rickrolled. Definitely not something I expected to exist outside my strange dreams. I suppose it's what Charlie the Unicorn predicted would happen if the internet and real life combined. Granted, I haven't seen fat guys falling down in slow motion, but my cats always seem to do people things.


You know, it's odd. I have 81 watchers as I write this, right? For the last 4 deviations (as an example), the average number of favs is about 2.25 and the average number of comments is about 2.75. So really, only about 2-3% of the people who watch me like my artwork or bother to comment. That's disappointing, but not entirely unexpected. I mean, I do a variety of different things, which people might or might not like, and it's kind of difficult thinking of a new comment for every deviation. But the really bothersome thing is that the number of views for these 4 deviations is around 37.25 or about 45%. So really, less than half of the people who watch me actually watch me. That's really baffling. Did people accidentally watch me and later realise that they don't like my work, but didn't bother to unwatch me? Do they accidentally delete the messages every time my work comes up? Do people only check their account every year? Are there really that many dead accounts watching me? And this isn't even taking into account the people who stumbled onto my work.

So, I put it to you, faithful watchers. I command you to do stuff! Fav', comment, get involved! I don't just mean that you should do it for me (though, really, I'm not sure how applicable this is for others). And for all my unfaithful watchers, stop watching me. If you're not watching me, I don't see any reason for you to watch me, because what's the point of watching me if you don't plan on watching me, you know what I'm saying?


But don't challenge me in ~ea-lec. I have those aforementioned exams to do and another challenge which I'm in already. But join up, by all means.

Man, I've got Never Met a Nice South African stuck in my head, and it's just one of those songs that it's not a good idea to sing under your breath. But it's simultaneously very catchy and very offensive!

So, my sister ~skeletonhearts found American McGee's Grimm. I must say it's fun, nifty to look at and shows the nastier sides of fairy tales. Quite frankly, I've played one episode and already Grimm has rocketed up to one of my favourite characters ever. As far as I can tell, on Sept 4 (A.K.A. tomorrow) you can download "Grandfather Death" for free and play it until the day after, after which you have to pay. So, hurry up and download it, and then enjoy. Of course, you can also not hurry up and download "A Boy Learns What Fear Is", and then enjoy.

'nother thing I've found was Salad Fingers Vs. Homestar Runner. It's actually pretty well edited, though Salad Fingers occasionally seems to blur a bit. Beware, though, Salad Fingers is as creepy as he always is, if not more so.

Yet another thing is a Discovery Channel commercial. I must admit, it always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside (which might not be a good sign). But if you don't want to see how awesome the world is, there are other Discovery commercials for that. Ahh, that atmosphere...

Yet another, another thing I've found is a trailer for this show called No Heroics. Seems rather intriguing, but I seem to be in the wrong country for it. Ah well.

Well, I do have a small reason to make a journal. So, I saw the last episode of Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (which is bad, because it means there are no more). But the end credits (which you can see over here) were done in the style of Mike Mignola. As in, the maker of Hellboy. I mean, that's just one crazy crossover! Man, that just entertains me far more than it should. Catchy music too.

So, recently saw 10,000 BC. I though it was a great movie, provided you constantly remember that it's not a historical fiction in any way. Mammoths charging down the pyramids? So very wrong, but still awesome!

I've recently started rethinking Alpha some more. You know, streamlining him a bit, stuff like that. The most glaring change is that I've decided to rename him Alair, mainly because Alpha isn't really a name, while Alair is. So, if I'm talking about Alair, you know who I'm talking about (I'm sure when this wouldn't be obvious from context). Also, some of the old Alpha things may be rehauled and may then pop up in your messages.

Now, I could talk about my recent feelings of artistic inadequacy, but I won't. Instead, I'll go and play Mahjong and listen to anime theme songs. See ya!

So, while my dad trying to fix my laptop, it went a bit wrong and I can't use it at all. As such, I can't use the newer files (though I think I still have some of the older files on the other computers). It should be fixed by Monday (maybe).

For the 10,000 pageviews thing, I'm doing something special, so start thinking up ideas. I can't tell you what sort of ideas, because that would spoil the surprise, but just think up things. I mean, even if I could tell you what sort of ideas to think up, I couldn't do anything with them until the laptop is fixed.

You know something neat? I got some spam from the Illuminati! I mean, that is so much cooler than the regular spam from generic widows. I mean, seriously, it's the Illuminati!

I know it's a bit late, but I found John Cleese reading a variation of The Night Before Christmas. Also, a completely random video involving Stephen Fry and the Parthenon. Nothing like random videos involving British comedians.

Incidentally, Mr. Owl did not eat my metal worm. I just felt like putting a palindrome in my journal.

Have you every felt uninspired, specifically in terms of creature creation? (I can't really help you if that's not your problem) If that is your problem, just check out here for some nifty critters. They've got some very snazzy designs over there. Granted, some aren't as nicely done, but you can't expect perfect success when there's 4,500 creatures.

Allow me to reiterate. 4,500 creatures. Wow. And if that's not enough creatures for you, check out these.

I would like to direct your attention towards PheonixBoot. It's a combination between the Frantics and Phoenix Wright, which I know enough about to find amusing. In any case, it's got boots to the head, which is generally amusing.

After the commencement, my parents gave me the second season of Doctor Who on DVD. Pretty snazzy. Also, the third season is starting up on CBC. Also snazzy.

Though I'm still watching The Goodies on Youtube, I now suggest watching The Movies part 3 rather than Kitten Kong. Basically, all you need to know is that they bought a movie production studio, and then everything goes insane.

You know, I've got a bit of a dilemma. I should be working on the 100 picture thing, but I'm far too attached to the little chibi versions of Alpha, rather then the larger versions that I used before. Though I could make the rest in the chibi style, it would jar a bit with the previous versions. So, the question is, does anyone care if I switch the styles?

10. Adam (the Frankenstein series) That guy is funny. Watching him lurch around, tossing girls in the water, it’s so funny. You also feel kind of sorry for him. He also looks kind of cool. Supposedly, he was just coloured green so that he would look deathly pale in black and white. But, the acting still sucked, so he’s in 10th place.

9. The Super Raptors (Jurassic Park series) Those things were just plain dangerous. They were far more intelligent, faster and larger then a real velociraptor. The especially like the feathery pattern for the third movies.

8. Xenomorphs (Alien series) Um, I think I described them before. They have acid blood, two jaws (both with sharp teeth), thick skin, the ability to adapt to many species, razor sharp tail, a hive mind (less thinking for each) and are about 7-8 feet tall. Of course, I’ve never actually seen the Alien movies. But still

7. Predators (Predator series) This is a very interesting race. Very well thought out. Interesting mouth too.

6. Dragons (Reign of fire) This is very plausible dragon. The patriarchal society, the fire breathing and four limbs all make it more real. The main problem is that it couldn’t fly.

5. Genus (Evolution) I don’t think they actually named it in the movie, but they called it that in the series. And it’s more like several hundred monsters, but still. The biodiversity down there was very high. They had the equivalent of 2.4 earth ecosystems, with it changing every few days. What I wouldn’t give for them to have done just 10 more species. I guess I wouldn’t really give anything.

4. The Hydra (Jason and the Argonauts) I’m not actually sure if it was a hydra, because Jason didn’t try to attack a head. But it still influenced how I think about Hydras. I was playing Age of Mythology, and I was all like “No you fools! Hydras have no legs! They have snake bodies!” That movie is still neat.

3. Balrog (Fellowship of the Ring) It was really neat. If only it lasted longer. You know what would be neat? 6 balrogs versus 10 oiliphants. Oh yeah!

2. Acklay (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones) It is a really neat creature, with the armour and the six legs and the jaws. Imagine a planet full of them.

And the number one monster is…

1. The killer bunny (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) Nuff’ said.
