History of Anti-Racism Day
In 1996, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed March 21 to be the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (Resolution: 2142), and called upon world leaders to increase efforts to eliminate all forms of racial intolerance and discrimination. The day was chosen to remember the deaths of nearly seventy people, killed by police during a peaceful demonstration against apartheid, in Sharpeville, South Africa in 1960, and has been used as a rallying cry by anti-racist organizations worldwide.

Three decades after the events in Sharpeville, the UN has organized the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance (WCAR), in order to focus on practical steps to eradicate racism and how to ensure that international standards and instruments are applied in efforts to combat it, and to make further recommendations for future action against bias and intolerance. The UN slogan for the World Conference is "United to Combat Racism: Equality, Dignity, Justice".

If you’ve been following the World news at the moment, you’d know that the state of Victoria in Australia is currently in the grips of the worst bushfires in the states’.

The death toll from horrific bushfires across Victoria this weekend has reached 96, surpassing the number of people who perished in the 1983 Ash Wednesday blazes.The BBC claims it to be 'Absolutely horrific' To view images from the disaster and to read up more follow over to ABC NEWS Bushfire page.

Many of the people who have survived the fires have quite literally come away from them with just the clothes they had on at the time. They need money to get basic requirements like clothing, shelter, and sanitary needs.

It really was interesting [according to many who replied back] basically stating that all nursery rhymes we know and love, continue to pass on kids of the modern generation were sometimes hundreds of years ago. And the stories they tell have hidden meanings. A nice media to pass down on to new generations what happened in the past.

It left me with the question of why there were no modern nursery rhymes? Now there's a thought. Hollywood remakes movies and series all the time. Ocean's 11, Longest yard, Charlie's Angels, Mission Impossible...and the music industry recycles, remixes and samples classic tunes as a matter of standard practice. So I got to thinking about some suitable updates for nursery rhymes.

Old Humpty Dumpty is a good place to start. We all take it for granted that Humpty Dumpty was an egg- although I don't recall any fact ever being mentioned in the rhyme unless there was some extra verse I am not aware of. Actually, it's believed that the character in the rhyme was not a person but a type of cannon used in war. Anyway in the rhyme, the unfortunately named Mr Dumpty had his problems in life compounded by his parents' decision to call him Humpty rather than say Jeff - and for his own reason he chose to sit on a wall. Anyway - a modern-flavoured update could go something like this:

Homeboy HD went to the mall
But had no money
So could afford nothing at all
He went looking for things free
Constantly eye-balled by security.
He felt like an egg coz his mind was scrmbled
Thinking:"Why did i come here when my credit card is canceled!?"

I know it lacks the voilent ending of the original - bit i toned it down in case any sensitive readers are upset by the vision of spilled yolk! ;p

What of the story of Georgie Porgie? The compulsive eater who chased girls.' He seemed like such a strange character but strangely not so unlike lots of nowadays. He was was at least very focused on his hobbies. The remix could be:

Georgie Porgie, pizza and coffee,
Burgers, chips and lots of toffee.
He wanted to chase girls, but was overweight and lazy.
So tucked into another plate of pie and gravy.
His taste in all things is X-X-L.
The only high in his life is cholesterol!

What I rather cleverly did is create a medical moral into this sorry tale - however the last two words aren't too rhyming. Depends on how you pronounce it anyways.

This is a challenge for all of you out there. Let's try to make up a whole new book of rhymes that capture the real essence of our life here - and knows in 10 years they may well be singing our rhymes in classrooms all over the region.

A special thanks to ~Calyptra who linked me to the Nursery Rhymes - Lyrics and Origins! page where you can read the rhymes and find out the story behind them. I wanted to know from long back how the nursery rhyme "London Bridge is Falling down" came into making. If you're still not satisfied Wikipedia also has quite a few in it's extensive database.

It is interesting how we are completely blocked away from bad influences', right from the time we are in Kindergarten until High school. Educational institutions focus on the syllabus being taught at school; they regulate activities taking place within the school premises and in general, provide and ideal environment for shaping the child's behavior and personality. But is it really so?

Nursery rhymes, the very first influence on children, have strong political undertones in most cases – a fact not many are aware of. Nursery rhymes of today are the political gossip of the yesteryears. People played with words and formulated a playful way of spreading a political message. The feature of these songs were that they usually had a catchy tune and employed the use of a rhyming scheme which made it easier for people to learn and sing.

The most common sight at a playschool is children forming circles and singing “Ring a ring o’ roses”, which seems to be a harmless child poem when in fact it is not. The poem reads:

“Ring around the rosy
A pocket full of posies
Ashes, Ashes”
We all fall down!

The poem talks about the Bubonic Plague which began in the early 1300s in China, which spread to London and resulted in the death of nearly 1/4th of England’s population. The plague, which initially affected rodents, passed on to people through fleas. The contagious disease spread to other parts of the world through traders who went to China. In Europe, the disease was called ‘The Black Death’ as black patches on the body were symptoms that led to death eventually, The ‘ring od roses’ in the poem referred to red eruptions with white centers, which spread on the entire body. The "Ashes Ashes" in the poem was referred to the bout of sneezes that followed the disease People believed that having a certain flower called ‘ posy’ would prevent one from being afflicted with the disease, hence the line “ pocket full of posies”. The last line, “we all fall down!” is a clear indication to the swift wipe-out of 1/4th of England’s population.

The next most loved poem is undeniably “Jack and Jill”, which has it’s origins in France. The poem reads:

Jack and Jill went up the hill, to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after!

Some historians believe that the poem refers to the execution of Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette in 1783. The phrase “let them eat cake” has been attributed to Marie Antoinette, though some disagree saying that French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau had first mentioned it in his autobiographical book Confessions. The story goes back in time she was Queen and was being informed about the conditions of peasants who had no bread to eat. She replied: "Let them eat cake". Apparent as it sounds, people were not happy with the royal family and were determined to overthrow the Monarchy. Hence, seeds for the French Revolution were sown with continued attempts of fleeing by the King failed. "Jack" and "Jill" are supposed reffrences to the King and Queen respectively. 14. I recently found out how PET5 bottles were harmful in the long run. So I now carry a PET1 bottle with me around the house. Yes the minimum 8 glasses of water still stays.

15. I tend to leave university assignments till the due date. The pressure of submission gives me better ideas.

16. I like broccoli.

17. I like baggy cargo pants compared to the skin hugging ones. :B

18. There's nothing better than Candy on a stick. LOLLIPOPS.

So I just wanted to make a new project since I've been so inactive lately. For those of you who don't know, @tmpst24myst is expecting. :aww: I was just making some newborn baby cards for a few relatives of mine and that's when this idea strikes me.

1. I don't sing in the shower. O.o It's a silent ritual of cleansing.
2. I rarely have breakfast. I leave home empty stomach at 6:30 in the morn and can go without food till 15:00 in the evening.
3. I usually put the alarm for 5:30. I put it on snooze and wake up at 6:00 and turn into a whirlwind rushing to get ready for uni. I usually get ready in 10 mins.
4. When I see hiiiuge trailers/trucks/cement mixers etc. on the road I usually zip past them or take another route. Their height is overpowering and scary. |:

I didn't bother and still logged on into the chats. BIG mistake. I think I'm partly deaf now. Why? you ask! A certain person thought it'd be a good idea to yell at more than 85 dB (decibles) for a constant 15 min rant phase XD As of yet I dunno what is faulty is it the gateway or something else. However I'm not going to let that down. If you think you're prayers have been answered then it is to my delight to tell you that I shall be back soon to annoy you in the chatrooms *muhahahaha* A wise person once told me the benifits of IRC but I turned a deaf ear at that time. Guess it's time to whip that IRC guide out and charge my brain *Oooo squishy* up. It'll take me some time to figure out how to navigate my ways around so don't hold your breath if you're particularly missing that 'Annoying someone' :]

In other news
I do have a few new pictures of the sky but I'm just to lazy to submit. Holler if you REALLy really want to see them and I might just pick my lazy arse up and submit them. ^_~

After alot of time I have finally made a nice perky journal...dont ya think....well not much updates to give...only ive made 4 more devs from which 2 i forgot to scan:ohmygod: and gave away before i could get to scan it(one was a drawing of Bambi and the other of his buddy Thumper) sorry guys but i will try my best to make another copy even though i know its not gonna turn out the same...and the other two im just waiting for enough time to upload so watch out...hmmm...what else....oh yeah!! somehow people in my uni came to know im an artist and they keep coming up to me and asking me if they could take a small sneak peek at my sketch file (which btw i carry around everywhere i go dunno why?) stuff keeps going around like wild fire...and there is this charity club and the president has approched me and asked me to make some flyers and banners to promote it so i will be busy doing that...lotssa assignments due these two weeks and a presentation next week:disbelief: and final exams comming up next month...so i already have alot on my plate more than i can chew....anyways keep updating me with your life happenings...till then let the creative jucise flow:slow:
