Anyways, I'll (hopefully) be putting up more art in the next month or so, so keep an eye out! So, wow, I'm almost 19! Just ten more days and then I am free!! ...from the number 18. Unfortunately I don't have much planned for my b-day, other than enjoy it, I guess. I might get a new laptop with the money from my new job, but other than that, no idea. I miss my friends, but I've made some new ones... kind of.

Anyways! I am still taking commissions, so if anyone wants something, tell me what you want, I'll put a price on it and tell you when you can expect it done.

Also, I will be doing a kiriban for whoever catches my 7500th pageview. If several people catch it , the first one to have noted me a screen cap of the pageview will get the kiriban.

1) "Creating Characters with Personality" by Tom Bancroft, designer of "Mushu"(Mulan), and "the Beast"(Beauty and the Beast). This book is a useful little tool for getting a feel for character design. It goes over different shapes you can use for characters, different types of characters, and is pretty much just a general-use guide to creating characters. (Jing's Notes: a good book to get started on, with plenty of tips from someone who worked at Disney for 12 years. That should say something right there about this book. ^_^)

2) "How to Draw Manga: Sketching Manga-Style 2 - Logical Proportions" by Hikaru Hayashi. This book takes you through how to draw characters at different heights, ages, and styles(chibi, to name one), in an easy to understand way. It has plenty of diagrams and examples, so you won't get lost. (Jing's Notes: Helped me figure out that I draw small-freakin-characters, and also gave me some good suggestions for facial expressions)


3) "Face Off" by Harry Hamernik. This book is all about caricatures and comic portraits. It goes through what kinds of pens or markers would be best to use, proper caricature techniques, and(of course) how to draw faces using patterns. (Jing's Notes: This is a great book for those who struggle with faces, and want to improve. but please note that this book focuses primarily on EXAGGERATING parts of the face, and is not a good reference if you want real face anatomy.)

4) "People and Poses" by Buddy Scalera, featuring art demos by Greg Land, Billy Tucci, Paul Chadwick, Sean Chen, Matt Haley, Mitchell Breitweiser, and Fernando Ruiz. A great photo ref. book for those who want it. The various artists that I've mentioned above provide tips, as well as showing their processes using reference photos.(Jing's Notes: I like this book just because it gives me something to brush up with if I ever feel like my anatomy is not up to my usual standards. This book also comes with a CD-ROM that has 1000+ color images.)

5) "The Magic of Drawing" by Cliff Wright. This newest addition to my artistic arsenal is an absolute wonder. It provides a number of activities that help stroke the imagination and work your senses, is filled with amazing illustrations and is a great reference for both beginners and seasoned artists. (Jing's Notes: BUY IT! BUY IT NAO!!! Honestly, this is one of the best books I've laid my eyes on. I feel that with this book, any artist can improve drastically, no matter what their current ability level is, and hopefully you will start to see improvements in my own art. BTW, the illustrations in this book are just gorgeous.)
