Most of you who read my journal know that I mark the anniversary of Cee's death on the 23rd of each month. In October, I marked it by almost joining her. Bad lungs from years of smoking combined with a viral infection brought me to the point of having to decide whether to pick up the phone and live or give up and die. I don't fear death, but the process of dying is pretty damned horrible. Breathing, the simplest and most thoughtless act, becomes the only thing on your mind. Gasping and flopping about like a fish out of water is no way to go. I dialed 911, and after six days in hospital and almost a week of recovery at home, I'm slowly getting better.

Oddly, I feel closer now to Cee, having been through at least partially what she suffered. And I also got the distinct impression that she's in no hurry for me to join her. She wants me to live out my days here as happily as possible, and come to her when it's time. So now, I set about healing my body, mind and spirit.

Hopefully I'll soon be able to get back to normal here, and begin creating again. Until then, forgive the fav-and-runs and lack of responses. I appreciate all of you very much, DA is like a family to me. So just look over weird uncle bark, eh?

2. I've lived alone for seven months, the longest period ever for me. (I lost thirty pounds in the first three months from eating my own cooking.)

3. I'm an unapologetic left wing liberal Obama democrat.

4. My vision of heaven is joining Cee in a huge field of flowers, where we'll dance madly wearing chicken suits and fruit hats. Better get some chin straps for the fruit hats so they don't fall off.

5. I don't care for video games. I played The Sims for a couple years or so until I was completely burnt out on it, but nothing else.

6. I hate rules and regulations, and have a hard time following orders. So... six is enough for me.

Events of the past few months pushed me into such a deep, dark hole that I really didn't think I'd ever be back to normal. I couldn't empathize with others' problems, I felt that I was completely alone. Part of that was my unwillingness to post my personal problems here. I read angsty journals all the time, agonizing over some (seemingly) trifling teenage problem. Then I realized that problems are as big as they seem in one's mind, and the person agonizing over a lost love is hurting just as much as I am, facing the prospect of the long illness and death of two loved ones.
I also realized that you can't spend your life grieving. When the time comes, I'll grieve... and then I'll go on. Thanks to =thefantasim and *MichelleLynn725 for helping me find my voice. I know now that many others here would've done the same, if I'd only let them know.
My wit has been dulled, my inspiration to create stifled, but I hope to be able at least to give the help and support to my friends here that has been lacking.

As I just remarked to *Toadsmoothy2 this morning, all artists are weird in some way, and the great thing about DA is that they all understand when a friend becomes weird for a while. I've had problems communicating lately, both artistically and verbally. I feel that I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel, now, and hope to be back to working and commenting soon. I know there will be more tunnels to go through in the future, but for now I hope to breathe clean fresh air and behave like a human. And good luck to all who are going through your own tunnels. There is an end.

This neighborhood's crazy. A moving van sits at the house across the street for three days.
Finally, late Friday night, they start unloading the stuff. A couple houses down, there's a
man who bellows loudly night and day, mostly to himself. Not ALL night and day; I mean, I'd
have to kill him then, wouldn't I? But anytime, and often. A woman who lives in the same
house talks loudly sometimes, too, but mostly she just sits on the porch and cries. I wish I
could help her. But people follow their own crazy paths, what can you do? If I was God, I'd
heal everyone and take away their pain. Everyone. Why not, I'm God, I can do that, right?
But I'm not God, and evidently there isn't one at all. If there were, why would he crush
schoolchildren in earthquakes? I wish there was one, really, so I could spit in his eye and
call him a sorry bastard. But there's nothing, just our imaginations, our wishful thinking
for someone to save us. Alarms going off all over, but no Rescue 911.

Anyway, here's a good recipe for Italian meatballs.

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 pound ground italian sausage
1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan
1 heaping tablespoon italian seasoning
1 heaping tablespoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
2 eggs
3 tablespoons olive oil.

1. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients except olive oil by hand, using a light touch. Take
a portion of meat in hand, and roll between palms to form a ball that is firmly packed but
not compressed. Repeat, making each meatball about 2 inches in diameter.

2. In a large, heavy pot heat olive oil over medium-high heat. When it shimmers, add
meatballs in batches. Do not crowd. Brown well on bottoms before turning, or meatballs will
break apart. Continue cooking until browned all over. Remove meatballs to a plate as each
batch is finished. Let meatballs cool slightly; cover and refrigerate until needed.

Yield: About 16 meatballs.

2. I will not favorite any deviation with a big ugly DA watermark on it. Would you work hard on a piece and then shit on it? And show it, expecting oohs and ahs? I don't care what the reasoning is, I won't argue the point anymore. You reserve your right to watermark, I reserve my right to ignore your deviation.

3. PLEASE... I don't care what your dog or cat looks like. Use Photobucket or Myspace or something to post snaps of your pets. It's not art, and it wastes my time.

4. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I don't like you. The entire country (USA) has somehow come to believe that we can't say what we think anymore, that it's rude to disagree. I think it's always been better to know where you stand with someone. I remember a quote from a black man long ago, when asked about prejudice in the south. he replied that at least you knew where you stood in the south... the prejudice in the north was hidden behind fake smiles.

5. Once again, I apologize to the world at large on behalf of every rational american for George Dubya Bush. Whoever's in office this time next year will be a vast improvement. He seems to think that history will exonerate him. I think history will show that he did more harm than any other president, ever...

OK, so I've been watching a lot of baseball this summer. I have an idea for a painting, but doubt it will ever come about. It would be pretty complicated to do in traditional or digital. The idea is simple enough... title: The Night Game. At first glance, a picture of a baseball game at night under the lights, lots of cool blues and shadows. Only if you pay attention will you notice that everyone in the painting is dead. Not horror movie zombie dead, just people who have died. The batter could be a self portrait of the artist. (I think there's a story in here somewhere as well....) Anyway, if anyone likes the idea and would like to give it a shot, go right ahead. I have forty-seven unfinished projects now.

OK, so here's my ideas for making baseball more fun. All uniforms should be Angus Young schoolboy outfits, different colors for each team. Hats would be different for each team also, like bowlers or boaters or carmen miranda fruit hats. With chin straps to keep them on. A player who makes an error would be severly tickled by his teammates. In the case of a pitcher hitting the batter with the ball, the batter would get to hit the pitcher with a bat. Double plays would have to be preceeded by an audible "Mother may I?" by the second baseman....

Writers too often do not recieve the attention they deserve here, mainly because we're always in a hurry. It takes a lot less time to view a painting than to read a story. Even a short poem can sometimes require a lot of thought and concentration.
These are pieces from my favs gallery from some of the excellent writers here at DA. I didn't try to go through everyone's galleries and pick out my very favourite works, it would have been too time consuming. All different styles, prose, poetry, humorous, romantic,

I'm sure all my friends know by now that if I haven't been around, there's a reason. A couple weeks depression preceeded the second heart attack of Pet Cee last Tuesday. She's still in ICU, but it's finally looking a bit better. You don't have to respond, I don't know when I'll feel like talking again.

UPDATE:
19 days later, and she's still in the hospital. Things are starting to look better, though, and I'm beginning to feel human again. There are going to be many dark days ahead. I'm not sure if I'll remain at DA after my subscription runs out. If I can't create something new and different, is there really any point to cranking out the same old crap?

OK, let me piss some people off. Friends will still hang in even if they don't agree, people who are not friends... what the fuck do I care?

:THINGS THAT PISS ME OFF:

1. AT DA: Huge watermarks across your deviations. If you're worried about your art being stolen, watermarking can be done in a discreet manner. The point of posting at DA is to get comments from other artists, right? If you put up a tiny resoloution pic with a huge watermark across the center, what's the point? You should keep 'em in a safe and take 'em out to look out when you're alone in the middle of the night. Jesusfuckingchrist, is art theft that big a problem here?

2. IN THE USA: The dumbing down of America. I saw 'Idiocracy' last night. It would've been funny if it wasn't so close to the truth. The only problem I had with the movie is that it was set in the 26th century. It'll never take that long, we're well on our way now.

3. WITH MYSELF: My memory has gone to hell. My depression has made it impossible to interact with others on some days, making my friends think I'm not interested in their work anymore. Far from the truth. But some days are just so dark that I come to DA, see all the new deviations and comments, and just delete it all. I can't deal with it. I'll probably be doing even less here in the future, but even if I don't always have something to say, I'm trying to keep up with what you're doing. And if I do think I have something important to say, I'll say it. Like now.

Just a quick note to those I watch; if I haven't commented lately, it's been because of some rather extraordinary circumstances. First my Pet Cee (*onlyowls) had a heart attack on Dec 16th. She was hospitalized for five days and had three operations. (She's way too young for this.) She's been recovering nicely, though.
But then last Saturday I came down with the cold from hell, my lungs filled with crap that makes it hard to breathe. I think I'm coming out the other side of it now, if I can rest another day or two. But I've passed it now to Cee. This has been an extraordinarily rough end to 2006, so if I missed your latest deviations don't take it personally. I've tried to come on and do a little here each day, but the more my box fills up the more likely I'll end up just clearing everything.

I'll try to keep this short; nothing like being away for almost a month to realize how quickly the journals stack up. I'm working on my old and slow but reliable PC Fred. Young PC George is having problems. So, it's making it even slower work to try and get caught up. But I WILL.

Thanks to you all, you're a wonderful group of people and good friends. It may be a while before I have any new work to show, but with 700+ deviations to look at I'll have plenty to do. Also still much work to do outside cyberspace.

One last thought: I'll be doing a lot of fav and runs. I give a lot of favs. But only to art that I want to be able to go back and view again, only to work that really speaks to me in some way. Only to work I want to share with my friends. I urge anyone who has a few extra minutes to look through my favs gallery.
