There was a job for a graphic artist that popped up locally, and I'm going to try to snag it . I'm not fully qualified, but thats never really stopped me from trying new things ...I've been spraying cartoons and slogans on my backdrop sheet at my current job ...a surefire sign that boredom has set in and its time to move on . Too much time on my hands? Nope, I've just gotten faster at completing the daily work loads and need something to keep my hyper active mind stimulated .I spend mor etime at work thinking of new projects and wanting to do those rather than work persay .
Its time, so it feels, to start doing a line of work that I want to do as opposed to doing what I have to do, if you know what I mean. The frustrated artist in me needs fulfilling. Its affecting my family life too to some extent .
Wish me luck !

Just real quick review of the year about to pass into the archives known as Yesteryear. 2008 at best was challenging on many levels, somewhat disappointing and not one of my best years to be sure .The lows were far more than the highs .
2009...has a better "feel" to it , maybe since 9 is a lucky number of mine, perchance a bit of clairvoyance , or a more optimistic sense that things can only get better? I came to a crossroads in '08 in regards to what I'm doing with my art and those skills I possess. I have a job, but its definitely not what I want to be doing ..so I'm looking at other possibilities .
I tend to work best when I'm in a job where I'm the only one there doing it. Not that I'm afraid to ask for help but there is far too much drama and cliques going on for my tastes. Time to think about going solo in the next year or two if I can build a decent product or customer base , both preferentially.
Here is to the end of this year and a hardy hello to 2009 . Best wishes for a bright New Year to all those whom have watched my gallery, to the community for keeping my eyes open to current trendz , and my boy Glenn and his fiance .
Bottoms up from left to right!
Gentlemen, THE QUEEN !

The header says it all...I started laying out colors on a welders helmet on Sunday and am mourning the lack of a proper work space. Fortunately it was really warm outside and set up a old trash can lid as my "table" . So far, so good. I have a "Kevlar" texture effect happening with a black base coat and candy apple red mixed with metallic blue to give it a bit of a color shift...it turns deep metallic purple in direct sunlight.
A friend of mine wants the "eyes" from Halo3 on the upper part of the lid, and I'm going to drop a shadowed skull on the inside of this helmet ala Halo3 and a bit of Evil Undead . The helmet is made by an outfit called OSE out of switzerland and when all the hardware is re attatched it should look pretty sci-fi/ horror .
Every other welders helmet out there looks like it was copied from a transformers cartoon, square, angular and zippo in the imagination /ergonomics scale .
This is the most I've done in ...forever. I may soon be unemployed so if that happens, gonna take the time to do shit that I want to do . Its true what they say, if you have to work, do something you like. I like my work, its the people that irritate the fuck out of me. No respect for personal space, property or work area. Its time like this lately that being PC is such a joke. It would be so much easier to get the point across by giving asshole "A" much deserved elbow to the head and then slamming said idiot into a wall wilst holding his trachea and yelling DON't FUCKING DO THAT ASSHOLE< I"M WORKING HERE! ..but then that may hurt his feelings...goddamn, eh ?
Thats my rant and mini-update .
Chow !

..and the local "ghost town" is having their annual Halloween spooktacular . Its actually an old mining town that has been restored to almost original specs. By day, its pretty benign, by night ...the shadows of the full moon glance off old roofs, glint off darkened windows and the old timers let you know that the past is alive and well in a way most can't fathom.

They give treats to all the kids at various old homes, stores and churches, bonfires light the path around the town and at the end of the evening, there is a fireworks show. The spirits even stop and stare ..I swear !

Welcome to small town Canada, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, where the sounds of fireworks will echo off the mountians that are only a couple of kms from the town of Forte Steele. This is halloween !

The plan for the weekend...relax, heal up a bit, sleep and enjoy some downtime with my family . An old friend of mine "tied the knot " today after 20+ years of going through a number of relationships. The passing of the torch to younger party animals, and a more stable life and happiness I hope.
Life is funny that way.

I'm sitting here , kind of in awe, of the sheer amount of talent that resides on these web pages. I go through, stopping by those that catch my eye and those that provide ideas and inspiration for my own works. Along the way I have "met" some very cool people and consider myself fortunate tohave done so. The Internet is a huge bridge that allows the crossing of culture and ideas.
By writ, I'm a formally trained artist with a background Fine Arts. I'm finding lately though that I'm going back to my photography roots, primarily because of where I live and the subject matter available. My Gallery is full of nature based shots and ...cars.
Growing up in small towns I found that old cars, 'rods and muscle cars were symbols of hard work, speed and good times . Cruising takes on a whole new dimension in the seats of these classics.
The nature shots...its a part of where I live . I love what this small corner of the world has to offer recreationally, visually, and spiritually . Its my home , here in the Canadian Rockies. Every day I see something new, as far as sunrises, sunsets, moonrise or moonset, the flora and fauna. Paradise, maybe not, but its a world that suits me fine. I grew up on a ranch in the interior of B.C. , so that let me see a side of life few ever get to or dream about. I've seen what the big cities have, and its a pale horse indeed. Life is short and full of all sorts of rewards, and misadventures, and to appreciate those, the midadventures included means that you have to slow down and look all around you, not just straight ahead. Life comes at you at all angles. By no means am I rich monetarily, but I am richer in ways that mean more in the long run. DA has been an eye opener and I hope that those who watch will see my own works evolve . Perhaps someday I will be able to do my art full time . The ideas are there, the people I want to involve in those plans are near. Just a bit O' time , aye , then lads n lassies, the real work begins and ..who knows . Magic? Happens all the time.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I have more shots in the works. I went for a drive tonight ..the tunes cranked up and camera ready to go. I hit the highway with Mason William's "Classical Gas" queued up as I drove along the edge of one of the lakes around here . Its almost Fall here, the leaves are turning and there is that smell in the air that one associates with that particular season. I found a roadside turnout and ...you will see the results shortly. On this evening I saw several Whitetail buck deer, their antlers in velvet, and their coats turning a nutty brown . Unfortuneately I was travelling at a good clip and couldn't slow down in time..but there will be other times .

I'm a longtine fan of Al Stewart, a scottish pop artist from the 70's and early 80's . This particular song though unusual in content is jammed full of incredible and somewhat surreal imagery . I can see several works coming out of it .

Terminal Eyes
Al Stewart
Cut glass porcupine sailing on the Serpentine
Fingers on the skyline pulling down the black blinds
Terminal eyes at the edge of the night
Rivulet of dark wine moving in a straight line
Sumdging out the stop signs, running down the life lines
Terminal eyes at the edge of the night
Shadows on the ceiling, coffee cup congealing
Tarot cards revealing, a solitary feeling
Terminal eyes, but I think it's alright
Silver studded jet plane screaming through the migraine
Cutting through the cellophane, wrappers of your tired brain
Terminal eyes - put out the light
Terminal eyes
Only the lonely Arabian skies
Terminal eyes
Calling you home from your restless disguise
Hands of the windmill moving to a standstill
Rain on the windowsill, ashes on the phone bill
Terminal eyes at the edge of the night
Rain drop fire flies sparkle on the shop blinds
Echoes of the summertime flicker in the street-signs
Terminal eyes at the edge of the night
Shadows on the ceiling, coffee cup congealing
Eyes that look unseeing, hands that look unfeeling
Terminal eyes, I think it's alright
Silver-studded sea plane breaking through the migraine
Cutting through the cellophane, enveloping your tired brain
Terminal eyes, put out the light
Terminal eyes
Only the lonely Arabian skies
Terminal eyes
Calling you home from your restless disguise
Terminal eyes
Only the lonely Arabian skies

Home again ...

A new Year is yet again upon us and I have to sit down and think about the one that just passed. It was a big year for me and mine, we moved from the big city to a town I call home , rediscovered a love of art, sports and my wife and embarked upon a new career .
Its strange that it feels as though I never left, perhaps its because in some metaphysical sense, I never did . My heart and soul have always been here, waiting to reconnect with my soul mates and friends ...I am immersed here in my mountains, and feel alive again . I have wildlife that regularly walks though my back yard to sample the few leaves left upon our mountain ask and a sad juniper we transplanted .
I await now for the return of my wife and daughter who went to visit my bro' in law , and the promised return of a soul mate in this coming summer ...when I can drop the top of my Tracker, cruise about in the warm summer evenings and stir some memories with the Eagles, " Hotel California" .
It hasn't been an easy life , but now with a bit of luck I have been able to enjoy a few things that were out of reach b4, new skills, new material comforts and a sense of security.
2007 will be special , perhaps to no one but me as at heart I'm a bit of a sentimental fool .

New art, perhaps soon. I really need a studio of sorts to do my airbrushing in.
