One or two more from the Bahamas and a couple from the same trip to the zoo as my recent ones.
Sometime soon, I'll actually be buying me a decent camera again and start with the new pictures. Well, there will be a few more pictures taken with the crappy camera, my older brother is getting married in a couple of weeks. I'm not allowed in since they're getting married in a temple that won't permit me past the visitor center, but I'll take pictures of the reception. Hopefully, I'll also get to see a couple of friends I haven't seen in eight years while I'm back in CA for that week.

So, finally back in TN *yay* and it was great to see everything again. The trip here was an interesting one.
First, I stopped in Vegas for a little three card poker tournament (hardly anything you can call real poker). Three rounds, three thousand chips each round. They take your top two round scores and combine them for a grand total. First round, made a few thousand dollars (not enough since a couple people were in the high tens of...), second round was a complete bust, and then came the third round. Ended up with quite an audience towards the end. Most people had already been knocked out, and there was only one other person left standing at my table. My last few hands had consisted of: straight, straight, nothing, nothing, straight, flush, flush, flush. Three straights and three flushes over eight hands, it was nuts. Made myself over twenty thousand chips easily. Final hand came up, and I needed $37,000 to qualify for any prize money. Naturally, I went all in, no choice in the matter. The only thing I needed was a queen high to walk away with at least $2,500 in prize money. Not even a pair, a queen high would have brought me a 1:1 chip payout and a sixth place win. Another flush would have put me in first place and ten grand in winnings.
Closed my eyes and just listened for the yays or awwws to tell me what happened. Had an audience of about seventy or eighty people at that point, and there was this long collective groan in the group. Opened my eyes...eight, ten, jack with the eight a different suit. One card off of a straight and first place win, one card off of a queen high and a sixth place payout win, and one suit off of a first place win as well. No such thing as close enough in cards. The guy at the table with me qualified with his hand, but he had so little to bet it didn't make a difference, he still came up short to place. So, lost a bit at the tables in between rounds, made a lot of it back in roulette, spent that and then some on gas money getting here.
In Houston, went rock climbing at the gym, saw a couple of friends. Dislocated my shoulder on a dino when my chalk bag caught a hold during the jump and yanked my back to the wall, banged my neck on a hold and gave myself a bruise that looks like a hickie. But I made the route the next day, so it was worth it.
Almost died in Mississippi (I think it was Mississippi, I had been through a lot of states that day). A pickup tapped my mirror on the left, reacted by swerving and caused a spinout. He spun in front of me, forcing me to jerk to the right and slam on the breaks. This put me into a series of spins heading to the right of the freeway. There was only a few inches of grass after the road ended before a couple hundred feet or so steep drop. I went into the grass still spinning. My left front tire ended up going over the edge, and the entire car dipped down. Thankfully I still had momentum and I spun backwards until my tire hit the edge and bounced back over. I stopped sideways against the edge facing backwards from my original direction. Looking out, I couldn't even see the lip of the drop, so I climbed out the passenger side. Walked around, and there was not even two inches of grass between me and the edge. Less than two inches between me and death, it was just a little scary. Slowly pulled away from the edge (the pickup had stopped its spin in the middle of the freeway, peeled a u-turn and taken off in a hurry) and turned the car around, found the next place to pull over, and just stopped the car and let myself relax for a few minutes before I felt straight enough to drive again. With five or six spins, there was a lot of time to just hold on to the wheel and think, "Well, so this is how and when I'm going to die. Didn't even make it home and see Laura first, damn." I had actually tried guessing how many spins until my car went over the edge. Too close, and it took way too long for my car to finally stop. Thankfully I had passed the torrential rain area I had been in just a few hours prior, so the road was dry. Otherwise that would have been it for this guy.
And then, I made it home with nothing else happening. Just boring from there on out. Got in, place was empty, so I went to bed.

Hmmm, let's see, what's new? Well, first, I'm actually staying caught up on DA, which is just amazing if I do say so myself. Once I had taken a break for a while and then decided I was tired of being away from everything, it got hard to keep myself from constantly checking up on what's new.
So, went to Marine World today. It was supposed to be a double date between my brother and his ex-girlfriend (though you can't tell they're technically not dating anymore when you see them together, they just need to admit they still have chemistry and give back the title already...yeah they watch me here and may read this, so there's my opinion on the matter), and one of our mutual friends with his date. Well, the friend's date cancelled, so they called me to come in and be his "man date." It was awesome, the weather was nice albeit a bit cold at the end, and we got on all of the rollercoasters plus a scary, jerky, kids coaster, and made it to see the killer whale show, which was made better by having a dolphin performing right along with the whale. Got in that plus an hour of rock climbing in the evening, so a day well spent. Now just eight more days til I leave CA for a poker tournament stop in Vegas before driving back to TN. I want to get in a Yosemite trip, still trying to see if it will be possible.

So I've now seen my first rock climbing gym that caters exclusively to bouldering. It was my last competition in California, and it went amazingly. Can't even remember how I placed, but it doesn't matter, I spent nearly four hours just trying out all of the routes and still didn't have enough time to work on them all. Anyway, they had these weird dance people who did the equivalent of pole dancing tricks on a climbing wall, hanging upside down by toes and holding the body horizontally in the air and whatnot. I'll post a couple of pictures in then near future. Taken with an iphone from light years away, so they'll suck, but just to show the kind of weird things people do out here.

Well, I am now back in Northern California after my short weekend trip to go to Disneyland and help my older brother move. I only spent a few hours at Disneyland on Saturday, and then a oouple more on Sunday before starting the return trip, and I was happy to see that the crowds were minimal. Hit just about everything that I had wanted to see.

The most disappointing ride of the trip though, by far, was the canoes. I hadn't been on them in something like a decade, so I thought that I'd have a bit of fun, get a bit wet and cool off before the long drive. Never, EVER, go on those things when everyone else in the canoe is either five or middle aged, lazy, and three hundred pounds. We started off with maybe three people rowing. After just a couple of minutes, the canoe starting after us passed us in a blurry streak, and then a couple of minutes after that the next canoe shot past. The girl behind me decided to try and help at that point, so she started using the paddle....backwards, just dousing me in water and ticking off the nearby ducks. I think that it was about that time I started thinking about how fast I could outrace the canoe if I just swam for shore. It's not like we were really moving anywhere.
Finally, we hit the half way point. Here is where the lazy people came in to offer their help. Five or six paddles just ended up dragging in the water, the so-called paddlers deciding that it would help them rest if they just let the paddles float a bit. Well, naturally, the laws of physics kicked in, and we started turning when we should have been going straight. The employee at the back was yelling at them to pick up their paddles, but by that point these guys were taking a nap or something from the hard strain of sitting there and doing nothing, so they didn't even hear him. We just turned and turned until we smacked right into a barrel that was floating in the water as a prop for Tom Sawyer's Island, coming closer than I'd have liked to tipping the whole bloody thing over. I had been considering taking a swim back to shore before, but right there it felt like we came close to making it a requirement.
The moral of this here story, if you go to Disneyland and get in line for the canoes only to see a bunch of little children and morbidly obese men...run, run away as quickly as you can, for you may very well drown and cause the Disney employees to have to shut down the whole area and upset the little children.

It's nice, I don't even need to unpack, since I'm flying out of state for a few days in less than two weeks.

Wow, I've been away from DA for a long time now. Recently though, I've been thinking about everything I've neglected lately, from the most important to the little stuff that I enjoyed before but just started ignoring for one reason or another, or no reason at all. Naturally, DA came to mind, since I used to have to check it near daily to keep up with all of the works coming in. I really haven't been doing much of anything related to photography lately, and even though it still might be awhile before I get started again, I at least need to catch up here. So I'm back on here and livejournal and facebook and all those other places people find themselves getting sucked into. Any pictures that I can find (I'm staying in California again temporarily but what I think of as home in Tennessee holds a lot of my belongings) will be posted soon, and when I figure out where I'm going to be at (crossing fingers for luck), I plan on picking it all up again.
I have to admit, it feels good to write again. I've only been looking at the big stuff like careers and politics lately, but I really wasn't the same person when ignoring everything else. Picking up my old writings and pictures really brings things back into perspective, really makes the things like politics that was dragging me in seem less important than just writing about me instead of those I'll never meet and things I shouldn't be sweating about.

That said, happy Birthday to me, just turned, ummm, a bit shy of old. Heh, for my 29th (I know it's not old, leave me alone), I went shooting at the gun range, with the family to dinner, and did a bit of rock climbing at the climbing gym. Nothing particularly fancy, nothing really celebratory. The one person I wanted to really see is in Tennessee, so the one thing I really wanted more than anything was too far away to have. Other than that though, it was very relaxing.
My older brother's birthday was on the 2nd (mine was actually February 28), and I'm heading down to Southern California to help him celebrate by riding on some indoor go-kart track with some super fast kart-things. We're also helping him to move, him and his fiance are getting a place together. A little hallway of an apartment, but it's theirs, which is the one and only thing that matters. Well, that and the fact that this cuts his commute from over an hour to about a minute flat.
My eleven year old brother is going, so we expect him to be in the way and I'll take him to Disneyland or something while everyone else finishes packing. Yay for annual passes, going this time will have officially paid for the price of the pass. While I'm not a huge ride and line waiting person, I love people watching, and I can't think of a better place around to watch the crowds go by. Have to make up life stories for all the weird people that walk by.

Alright, I'm compensating for the fact that I'm just getting back into my old ways by typing waaay too much. I'm going to end this here before I turn it into a novel. It feels good to type about myself again instead of debate politics or some such crap, and I hope to keep it up regularly. I'll try to keep it more simple in the future though.

I have been tagged:
Rules :
1. Post these rules.
2. Each person must post 8 random facts about them.
3. Tags should write a journal of these facts.
4. At the end of the post, 8 people get tagged and named.
5. Go to their page and tell them their tagged.

So here's mine:

1. I once drew a stick figure, but it was so awful that someone thought it was an elephant.
2. I can't draw (bet you couldn't tell that from the first one), so I picked up photography just to try some form of art that didn't seem impossible.
3. I'm shorter than average, only 5'6", and I prefer it that way.
4. My girlfriend is a redhead! (ok, not really random about ME, but I like to brag about it)
5. I'm working towards an electronics engineering degree.
6. I can pass out from being tickled too much (happened twice...if I ever change color 5 times, better stop because on the 6th one I'm passing out)
7. I hate people that sugar coat, well, anything. Straight talking is always preferred.
8. I love rock climbing and martial arts (mostly danzan ryu jujitsu)

And that covers 8 random things. Ummm, I'm going to cheat and not go to other peoples' pages. Instead, I tag whoever happens to read this. Sorry suckers!

Praise the great Flying Spaghetti Monster, the computer lives again! I spent close to $300 to fix it, and lost every bit of data I had saved, but it works. And to make sure there's no overheating, I added a rather monstrous cooling system that takes up a large portion of the tower. So now I can run quad 1-gig ram sticks, dual 9800 video cards, surround sound and overclock the whole thing without worrying.
Now however begins the several week progress of replacing everything I lost.
Ok, I admit, part of the $300 was a new mouse. But come on, 2000 dpi and push buttons to adjust the mouse resolution on the fly, mid-gaming or whatever. Compared with the one I had before that had about a second delay before even reacting, it was time for a slight upgrade.

Ehhem, now that that's out of my system, a note. The computer still does not work, and we've identified some definites regarding the problem(s). So, motherboard may be gone here, not sure yet. And it was such a nice custom home-made computer too, disappointing.

Back from Wyoming! I had to drive into Idaho in order to catch a plane leaving that day, so I had a great drive from the top of the Grand Tetons down to the bottom leading into the much lower altitude of Idaho. Great scenery, you have to pass under a few ski lifts before reaching the bottom.
Next comes Florida, leaving this Tuesday for some time at the beach with the lass. We return to Houston, and then after a few days it's back to Wyoming for more, with an extra day added into the trip for either hiking or kayaking in the Grand Tetons or Idaho. Before Florida though, I'm thinking of heading to Colorado Bend for a bit of lounging, since Laura leaves a couple of days before me for Florida and my vacation officially starts in less than an hour.
And then of course there's Tennessee probably at the end of July, and then at regular intervals from there...really looking forward to that, plus a possible trip to California as well during the summer. Putting all that together, I'm hoping that during the coming months I'll be able to start posting just a bit more regularly than I have the past year or so.

Sorry, I didn't have the opportunity, and now my office is forcing me to return to Wyoming again this Thursday for another couple of weeks, only this time on a 7 day a week schedule. So I don't know when I can get anything posted, I'm being tossed around back and forth right now.
But relief is in site, at least temporarily. End of May I go with the lass to Florida for a week's much needed vacation, yay! I WILL get pictures posted sometime, although it doesn't seem that I managed to take anything really all that good, but they will get posted.

Considering how long it's been since I've posted a picture here, I feel like announcing that there may be more on the way! Weather permitting, I'm heading to some place in Wyoming called Cascade Canyon, in the Grand Tetons (among the tallest mountains in the country). On the way up the mountains, there are lakes aplenty, and I'm heading to some area with whitewater rivers flowing down the mountains, supposedly with mutliple waterfalls ranging from 100-200 feet tall.
I really hope the weather is nice, I've only been here a few days but the weather has ranged from below freezing and snowing to a comfortable 55-60 degrees, and it did that once in the same day.
Anyway, going about 70 miles from camp into town where I'm going to buy a cheap digital (point & shoot; I want an SLR, but they're expensive, and there's only a Walmart to buy from in town anyway). And then its a couple hour drive to the trailhead, and an 8 hour hike from there up the mountain and around the waterfalls, yay!
Don't drop below freezing, don't drop below freezing, don't drop below freezing....

I just want to take a minute and gripe here. Environmentalists have been trying for years now to have people banned from Yosemite (where the majority of my pictures have been taken), but now it's actually making it into courts and being considered. The lawsuit would have every settlement and piece of property around Yosemite destroyed and all people fully banned. There's a few groups that have traveled to California, trying to make laws in which we wouldn't be allowed to spend time in the woods outside of cities, because we might damage the environment and disturb the animals with all of our hiking.
Can someone tell me how appreciating the environment and wildlife means banning ourselves completely to walled cities and not being allowed to walk outside those walls? It just seems to me that part of appreciating nature is actually being a part of it. I understand trying to conserve the wild, and not building foreign constructs in protected lands where it would damage the ecosystem, but to ban hiking in the wilderness altogether, not just building but hiking, like some are trying to do, and in all parts of the west coast...ridiculous. California is mostly unpopulated wilderness, we'd be banned from most of that part of the country.
If these judges considering this actually do ban people from Yosemite, I'm going to be crushed. I've never felt so relaxed as when bringing my camera and shooting around the crags and waterfalls.
Ok, done griping now, it just really bugs me that this is being seriously considered.

Was tagged by FreshWaterMermaid, so I guess I'm left with no choice but to answer the questions

1. Do you like animals?
Absolutely, I'm more comfortable around most animals than people. I also think they're tasty with barbeque sauce

2. Have you ever met an online friend in person?
Nope, been friends with people who then became online friends, but not the other way around.

3. Are you athletic?
Yeah, but I'm not in as good a shape as I once was. Trying to change that though.

4. Are you: thin, fat, athletically built etc:
Ummm, fit I guess. That's what other people say at least.

5. How much do you weigh?
155-160

6. What's your height?
5'6" (yes I'm short, thank you. But I can camp out in the back of my car and stretch out comfortably, so there)

7. Shoe size?
9, but 9 1/2 or 10 boots

8. Girls- are you tomboyish, girly, normal, etc?

9. Guys- Are you girly, or guyish
Ummm, well I'm a guy, so I'd say I have all the requirements to be guyish. Let's see, I can grow a beard, have hair on my chest, like to throw a football or frisbee. Oh, and pee standing up...yep, definitely guyish

10. How old are you?
26

11. When's your birthday?
February 28

12. Do you like to receive giftart?
Definitely. Shymyst is the only one to ever give me giftart, and I'm completelely satisfied with that. But hey if anyone ever wants to send giftart, I wouldn't say no

13. Are you sociable?
Yeah, more so in an outdoorsy sports-ish setting. Hanging out playing ultimate frisbee is much more fun that going to a rave or getting drunk at a party. Or museums and operas and symphonies work well for my, too

14. Do you have many friends?
Nah, just a few, I don't need tons of friends. 'sides, I try to spend most of my free time with Shymyst n_n'

15. What's your race?
caucasian: English, Scottish, German, and a larger list not worth mentioning.

16. Do you like to talk on the phone?
Not a huge phone person, unless it's with a certain someone

17. Are you single or taken?
Very taken <3

18. Do you eat meat?
Mmmmm, meat...*drools* Raw and bleeding please

19. Are you paranoid?
Paranoid? Probably. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't a monster about to eat your face. (tis my tag line somewhere)

20. Do you read a lot?
Every day

21. Do you listen to music, what kind?
As often as possible, and I can't listen to just one type. If I were to listen to the same thing day in and day out, it'd become boring. I rotate through, classic rock, rock, soft rock, celtic, smooth jazz, acid jazz, trip hop and just about everything else besides rap

22. Do you play any instruments?
Used to, but my skills have since passed due to lack of practice, and any useable instrument at home. I've learned piano, saxophone, drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, violin, as well as about a dozen other instruments...and currently I can make noise out of the didgeridoo...go me! Unfortunately a bongo that Shymyst bought me and her didg that I play around with are the only two instruments currently at my disposal, so talent has faded away.

23. How long have you been drawing?
Drawing!? Ha ha, that's rich, me draw! The last time I drew a stick figure, someone thought I was drawing an elephant, that's how much I can't draw. Ahhh, thank god for cameras.

24.Whats the meaning of life?
I really don't want to die without jumping out of a few more airplanes and assorted really tall mountains and structures. The meaning of my life is to fall from really hig places with nothing but a bungee cord or parachute to save me. Now there's some deep meaning
And my real meaning is to spend every second I can with the woman I love, and hopefully make both of our lives better for the experiences together.

Tis it, now I tag, ummm, whoever wants it

I try to be, but I'm not as much as I'd like. I rock climb, practice martial arts and lift weights, but my endurance sucks.

4. Are you: thin, fat, athleticlly built etc:
Thin, or trim, or something like that

5. How much do you weigh?
Ummm, some 155-160 prob'ly at said moment. Mesa has a fast metabolism *munches down two foot long subs from Subway*

6. What's your height?
5'6", I be a short one, gyar

7. Shoe size?
9-9 1/2

8. Girls- are you tomboyish, girly, normal, etc?

9. Guys- Are you girly, or guyish?
I AM growing my hair out, and some seem to think long hair on guys is girly. Outside of that, guyish. I love to play sports, even if I'm not a fan of watching most on tv, and I appreciate the long honored tradition of competing to find the most digusting...everything.

10. How old are you?
OMG 26!! Wow, its like, midlife crisis time. Hey, maybe that's why I'm dating a younger woman <3

11. When's your birthday?
February 28...yep, 1980. Damn, I just missed the 70's, man! Wait, is that the same day as 'coils?

12. Do you like to receive giftart?
Bloody right I do...unfortunately, I can't give in return. My drawing ability is, well, let's just say its lacking in...every possible area

13. Are you sociable?
If you're a friend. Then there are times when I can't get rid of people who aren't. I guess you could say I'm a social person who has more fun at less than overly social events.

14. Do you have many friends?
There's quite a few, but most live nowhere close by, and we've grown slightly apart because of it. I can't find time to chat online all that often.

15. What's your race?
I'm a bloody Scotsman, as well as le Irish, English, German and Welsh, and a few other things that are too small of a percentage to be worth mentioning

16. Do you like to talk on the phone?
Not particularly. If its someone I know well, then sure, but I still prefer live contact.

17. Are you single or taken?
Very much taken, by a hot redhead.

18. Do you eat meat?
Do I eat meat!? Heh, do I ever! I'm human right, one look at the average vegetarian's health and I'm reaching for that steak. Besides, meat taste good *grunt*

19. Are you paranoid?
Yep, always have been, always will be. I'm a confident person by nature, but I also worry. And I always wonder what people are thinking

20. Do you read a lot?
Yep, everything I can get my hands on

21. Do you listen to music, what kind?
As long as I'm not deaf, I'll keep listening to music every day. How can you not? I'm not one of those who always listens to the same thing, I have to have a variety or I'll get bored. Celtic, rock, classic rock, jazz, smooth jazz, acid jazz, trip hop, classical, opera, soft rock, avant garde...

22. Do you play any instruments?
Used to, and I'm ashamed to admit I've lost all my skills. Tried my hand at piano, trumpet, saxophone, guitar, violin, drums and at least a dozen others. I do like messing around on the didgeridoo now, though. I'd love to pick up ALL of those instruments again.
23. How long have you been drawing?
Drawing, me? Umm, nope, sorry. I'll stick to photography

24. Whats the meaning of life?
42

25. Now tag five of your friends!
ALL OF YOU PEOPLES!!

I just realized it's been a while since I've posted a journal on this site. So let's see, what's been going on here in Houston for me? This is my second week at a new job, working in purchasing for the construction side of a major corporation that contracts for big companies such as Valero, Texaco, Shell, etc. The newest major project coming in, we're building a large pipeline through Mexico, I'm still waiting for the details on it. Plus, there's one being build in Wyoming n_n. I love it there, hopefully if I learn fast enough, I'll be able to take a company jet out there for an inspection or something within the next few months. There's also some big project on Hawaii, taking three of the islands, but I'm not a part of that project, I started too late.
Ok, there's the work side, now hmm, personal life. I couldn't want more, my love for my girlfriend Shymyst grows every day, we're very happy together. I have opera tickets for us for Carmen in April, and I'm really excited; we have our own personal box on the front balcony looking down on the stage. Still rock climbing, though admittedly not as often as I should. But I'm also slowly getting back into martial arts again. Years ago, it was my entire life, and I instructed for some time. Now I'm finding the opportunity to train again, and I'm ready to leap back in with both feet. Practicing in those two sports at the same time, I should be back into the shape I want to be in no time.
Well, methinks that's about it. I want to add an entry into my personal journal. I just started writing one for the first time in years, my first entry was two days ago. Lord it feels good to write again, and it's nice to sometimes hold a pen in the hand versus using a keyboard. It just seems more personal writing on paper

I used to find myself extremely camera shy, which actually became worse after posing for a couple of clothing catalogues when I was younger and some martial arts magazine work. Lately for some reason, I'm finding myself more and more comfortable in front of the camera. So when I finally decide to post something online, just pictures taken at work by myself of myself with my camera phone (worse res than the average web cam, but mweh, whatever), the Medianet on my phone stops working. It stopped working on Shy's phone as well, and we both use the same company, so it's probably a company wide thing. Bet they're charging every time I try though. Upsetting, I finally say to hell with the whole self conscious thing and try to post, and I can't. Ha! Sorry, not today

Well, after a few days of nice weather, winter has finally decided to arrive, announcing itself loudly. The rain is here, and I'm not entirely sure I can make it out of the parking lot at work. It's about two inches deep right now, but getting worse. Heh, like a don't spend enough time at the office already, the thought of being stuck here isn't too appealing.
On a different note, a good luck to Shy on the rest of her finals. Just two more days love, and then nine in Tennessee you lucky puppy. And then...back for Christmas, yay!

Laura, Jackie and I have been going to the new rock climbing gym repeatedly lately in an attempt to set up some routes before all of the walls are taken. I swear, every time we go, we either get pulled to do something else or run into a problem that keeps us from setting anything. Last night it looked like we were going to be left alone to set (finally!), when the third hold we try bolting in gets stuck. We tried to take the bolt out, and the whole ensemble turned with the bolt. After repeatedly having people send us to do jobs other than what we came in to do, there we are setting, and after 10 minutes, we hit a roadblock. The rest of the time Laura and I worked behind the wall attempting to trap the threading block to keep it from spinning with the bolt, but no luck. We were destroying lots of nails though. Anyway, I'm done venting, just getting upset that I may not have a route of my own before the gym opens on Saturday. All in all, I still had fun last night working behind the wall, it was good exercise. And as usual at the gym, the company was good
