I have been using a near-final version of Snow Leopard for a little over a week now. I absolutely LOVE it. It is an under the hood upgrade for Leopard which focuses on the Intel Multi-core processors. It cuts several gigs out of Leopard and is incredibly faster. I now launch Adobe Photoshop cs4 in half the time it took with 10.5. Everyone with an Intel Apple computer needs to get this when it comes out in September. Sorry ppc users but it is intel only. This is truly an awesome upgrade.

3 Weeks ago I went to Nawlins. I had a check from my boss to pay for the bill. After I got there I found out it would cost $120 to park my car for 4 days. $120 bucks just to park it and leave it. The W insisted that I give them a credit card even though I was going to pay for "incidentals" like parking in cash. They then charged $985 to my credit card. When I complained they said it was a mistake and took the $985 off. I still had to argue with them because it cost $360 in overdraft fees. On checkout day I get a bill for $323. I asked them WTF so they finally reduced it to the $120 for parking. They also agreed to pay the overdraft fees. It took over and hour and a half just to check out.

Today, 3 weeks later, I finally got my check for the overdraft fees. I also just discovered that several days after I had checked out they charged another $354 to my credit card. WTF!!!! Now I have to fight with them to find out why they charged this to my card. Needless to say, I am overdrawn again.

I highly recommend that everyone stay away from the W hotel. What a nightmare.

I just returned from a week in New Orleans (Nawlins). I was there for an Apple Specialist Conference. Although it was geared towards the owners/sales force and I am a Service Manager, I had fun getting exposed to this side of the equation. The owners of my store sent me and my partner there to have fun. During the day we had classes and at night we had fun. There was a swamp tour, a riverboat paddlewheel dinner cruise, haunted city tour, and a trip to Nawlins oldest and still operation theater to watch the new Star Trek movie. One night there was a speed dating dinner with venders and another night there was a vender fair where they showed off all their new products for Mac. I got several 1 gig flash drives loaded with different software and several NFR and retail software programs. We ate at several really good restaurants such as K Pauls.
The only part that I hated was that my wife couldn't get time off work to join me. She is my best friend and I don't like not having her around to share the fun with.

Well the Fed EX driver ran into me a couple of weeks ago.He smashed my door in. Since it was in the parking lot behind where I work, he wasn't moving fast so nobody hurt. The damage was appraised at $1577. I figured the SUV is 11 years old and has started to burn oil so to heck with pretty. I got a door from the junk yard for $40.00 and paid $100 to my friends son to put it on (he installs doors at the Nissan factory). I then bought a new shed and a power saw. My wife and I spent 500 on bills and split the remaining 300. I got an 8 gig ipod nano. I put my entire music collection on it and hooked it up to my car stereo. I think my wife is going to get a wife for her male rat terrier. All I can say is "Hey Fed Ex, I got 3 doors left!"
Terri and I went to the Japanese Steak House tonight for my birthday dinner. This is the lid from a broken MacBook Pro. I put the flag inside the lid so it would show out the Apple emblem. I then drilled a hole and installed a clock. The 12-3-6 and 9 are the Apple command keys from a black MacBook the rest are function keys from a white MacBook. I made this as a birthday present for my good friend Chris, who I work with.
This morning I stood in line for the grand opening of the Mississippi Apple store. Not much of a line. I know the Assistant store manager and am sure he must have been disappointed. Nice store though. They have gotten together with the Apple specialist store that I work at to get a good relationship. They will send us the out of warranty work that they can't do and we will send them our customers when we don't have what they need. I had fun and got a free Apple shirt.

Well I just completed my Apple Macintosh Certified Technician tests. I needed 68% for the software OS and got 88%. I needed 80% for the hardware portion and got 90.74%. I am so glad that I am done with this for another year.

Or am I. My boss now would like me to study for the Apple OS X Support Essentials test and the Apple OS X Server Essentials test.
Support Essentials should not be too hard the book is only about 3 inches thick! I probably already know 3/4 of it.
The Server stuff though is an entirely different beast. I know nothing about servers. Oh well, I am an old dog but I guess I will still have to learn a few new tricks.

Well, my 10 day trail of sketch is now up. I did 31 sketches in those 10 days. It was a lot of fun. I am going to get a bunch more photos together and do a 10 day trial on my laptop. I will do file and screen sharing so I can still do the work on my 24" iMac with high def screen even though it will be running off of the ibook. I love Leopard.

If anyone is interested in turning some photos into sketches they really should check out Sketch by Akvis. This program is so easy to use. Very fun program.

I had a music producer in my store today buying a new Apple. He saw Space Voyage set as wallpaper on a 20" high def iMac and asked about it. I showed him my da account and he asked if he could show it some of his clients. He wants me to do some cd covers for him.

I have entered my first contest. You are allowed 2 abstract entries. My first one was the abstract dog, which I did completely in photoshop. The second entry I did with a trial version of Groboto and imported into photoshop for the background and final tweaking. It is my first real effort at a fractal. Whether I win or not doesn't matter because I have been having fun just learning new techniques.
This is the contest if anyone is interested: [link]

Well, I finally got my Apple Product Professional pin and certificate. I am now up to date until Dec of 09.
My boss has stated that he will pay for me to go to training for Mac OS X Support Essentials and pay for the test. $1500 for the class and $150 for the test. To cool.
Currently I hold the Apple certified desktop technician and also the Portable technician which are good for a year. They have been combined into one certification, Apple Certified Macintosh Technician which requires the hardware test and software test.
So much studying makes my head hurt. You know what they say about old dogs.

Well I am now 46. Wish my body still felt that young. Maybe after my apt with the pain management clinic,
My body feels 60. But I still act like a young pup. I may have to grow old but I will never grow up.
My wife took me out for dinner today and my boss bought me one of those edible arrangements with melons, grapes and pineapple. Had a great day even if I did have to go to work. Better yet I now have 2 days off to spend with the love of my life. Whooo yeah!

Well, my mastiff finally got to come home yesterday. He has been living at the vets because he got out after a storm blew our gate loose and got hit by a car last month. He lost his back right leg at the knee and wouldn't leave the stitches and staples alone. Tried a cone collar and a neck brace and he still kept ripping them out. 4 times while at home and 3 time while living at the vets. He said the stitches make good dental floss.
He is finally healing up and looking good. He got real skinny while at the vets. Probably down to 100 pounds. Gideon is so glad to be home with us and our other dogs. (and so are we).
While he was gone my wife rescued a black and tan coon dog that was minutes away from being put down. He is a cool dog and Gideon and his doggy bride Hannah love him.
